how to add app to always on display - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

how do i get weather underground temperature to display in the AOD?
i had the samsung galaxy s7. i had weather underground installed. i did not have to do anything to get weather underground temperature to show up on the always on display (AOD).
now i have the samsung galaxy s9. i have weather underground installed. i see weather underground temperature in the top of the home screen and in the notification bar but it doesn't display in the AOD.
other apps show notifications in the AOD.
i have notifications from weather underground enabled.
i have AOD on with 'show always' and show 'home button and clock'. it is using 1 of the basic AOD templates. in the 'AOD alerts' i just see 'reminder'.
thanks!

I'm using 1 Weather, with the temp shown in the notification bar, and it shows up on the AOD screen. Not sure why WU wouldn't. Try a different weather app and see what happens.

Does no one have a fix for this? Stock lockscreen weather app - location won't set!

I have a Verizon LG G3, stock unrooted. It is supposed to show weather info on the locksceen or when you close the cover, using the QuickCircle case. The weather info is powered by Accuweather, but when I close the QuickCircle case, it consistently says "Set cities in weather app" and doesn't show any weather info for my phone. Looking at just the lock screen, it doesn't show anything weather related at all.
The location IS set in the Accuweather app and displays correctly on my home screen.
When I go to Settings - Lockscreen - Weather Animation - the check box isn't checked. When i click it, it asks me to add a location. I am prompted to enter a location and do so. But when i do it says that the location "already exists". That is correct - I can see that it exists in the accuweather app on the home screen, however no cities are set for the LOCKSCREEN display of the app..
Its like the lockscreen function of the app can't store or access a saved city...??
I have tried clearing the data for the Weather app, and the LG keyguard app but neither worked.
Anyone have any ideas?

ping... Help please! Someone..???
I'm not sure which is the following instructions resolved the issue, but I now have a location set for my weather on the lock screen. If you too, are having this issue try the following procedure....
1. Remove any weather widgets from your home screens.
2. Clear the cache, and data, and force stop all 3 weather related apps. To do this, go to Settings, application manager, and then flick right until you get to the list of all programs. You should see one called weather, one called weather theme, and one called weather platform. Do this for all 3 apps.
3. Turn on Location. I used the power saving mode and this worked fine.
4. Add the 2 X 1 sized widget to your home screen. Do not add the 5 by 2 widget. Click it, and set your location via the current location button. Do not manually type in a location.
5. Go back to your home screen and verify you have weather data for where you are. Then turn off your screen and verify you have weather data on your lock screen.
Hope this helps!!
Sent from my VS985 4G using XDA Free mobile app
turn on location and choose the one with network assist.
turn on wifi.
remove the set city.
then add your hometown and other cities.
if you want weather animations on lockscreen, enable sync.
I had set Google Now as my launcher. To fix this, I reverted back to the LG Home launcher and then tapped the large 4x2 widget which I could see caused it to automatically set to my current location. I was then able to set the weather animation on and change the launcher back to Google Now.
The instructions others provided did not work for me.

Lock screen weather widget

I've been having a problem with the lock screen weather clock. Whenever I manually set a location for the weather app, which I do because I don't like turning on location services, the weather clock on the lock screen says there's no weather information. Yet it works fine if I do turn on location services. Is there any way I can get the lock screen weather widget to show my manual set location?

That's how that widget is made. U cannot select the location.
U could ask a dev to tweak it, or just live with it.

Seems pants that you can select it on the home screen widget but not the lock screen one. So looks like its either living with location unavailable or using more battery with location services on.

Weather in Android 6.0 lockscreen

Hi! I just got my new LG G4 a few days ago, and I would like to know if there is an easy way to get weather information (preferably via widget) in the lockscreen of Android 6.0. My phone is not rooted, and at this moment I do not intend to do so, either.
I know this can be achieved with alternative lock screens, but as far as I know, those lock screens do not allow me to use the camera in a safe session while the phone remains locked, and this feature is a must for me. So, if anyone knows of a replacement lockscreen that allows this, then please let me know.
Thanks!
No one knows?
Well, you can always use Google now to find that info. Just say "Ok google, what's the weather like today?" (need to have google now installed and voice trigger activated)
The LG G4's lock screen itself has the animations of weather when there is high intensity of rain, fog or storm out there. That's really an awesome feature.
If you still want to see exact numbers on your lock screen, you can get any app that puts the info on your notification bar. Naturally, the notification appears on lock screen on g4 so from there you can get it....
Hope it helps

Thanks a lot! I can't get the weather animation on the lock screen. Does it only appear with a particular lock method (swipe, PIN, etc.)? Or with a particular swipe effect?
As for an app that puts the info on the notification bar, wouldn't that make the notification light blink constantly? Also, wouldn't that prevent the phone from sleeping and thus consume much more battery?

Hey,
So many questions at once! Will answer one by one
You will get the weather animation when the weather is intense, like its raining out there or fog is there. Not for the general temperatures, but for the unusual ones.
The option can be enabled in Settings > Lock Screen > Weather Animations.
For the App that puts info on notification Bar, you have the option to disable notification light for a particular app. You can disable the notification light for the weather app, however some would prefer that light keep blinking 24x7
No, notifications do not prevent phone from sleeping. Understand it this way: when you get messages on any app, say whatsapp or facebook messenger, you get notifications. But does that prevent phone from sleeping or consumes extra battery? no. Similarly, this app will just be getting hourly updates from server just like you getting messages on whatsapp. So Standby mode won't be affected.

I do not have that setting I have not done much to the phone since I got it. I updated it to 6.0, and I am using Lightning Launcher instead of the LG one. Could any of those things prevent me from seeing that option in settings?

Ok, I understand. Though, I see that my lockscreen has space for 2 notifications at a time, so I guess that if I receive an sms and I have a calendar event, the weather notification will be hidden, right? Oh, well, at least it is better than not having the notification at all.

Well Mate, I completely understand your situation.
Unfortunately, unlocking G4 isn't possible and at MM, rooting is not possible too (as of now).
Else I am sure custom roms can provide you all that you want with minimal effort.

And yes, you need to use LG launcher along with weather app from LG.
Anyways, LG launcher is quite stable and once you customize it with your preferences, its actually better than any other launcher out there. It allows you to switch off screen on double tap, the folders are quite good and customization, you can uninstall apps directly from drawer...in short its a good launcher.
I myself preferred Google now launcher earlier before having G4 but G4's launcher is really good.
I have an old app called Weatherbug Elite. It has the option of keeping live weather info in the notification bar. With it turned on the temperature is always displayed and when you slide open the notification bar there is a panel of weather info. This same panel shows on the lock screen via notifications. It does not keep the phone awake or blink the light. If there are several notifications it compresses on the lock screen them and you can expand them with a slide.
This app is no longer available, I got it as a free app of the day from Amazon a long time ago. There must be other apps that do the same thing though.

Thanks for the info! I'll try to track it down. Still, I do not understand why Google nerfed the lockscreen so much in the last versions of Android.

How to get weather on the "At A Glance" widget ?

I've been running Nova since I got my Pixel 2 XL earlier this month, but just for fun wanted to try out the stock default Pixel launcher. I like the default launcher for now, may or may not stick with it ( been using Nova on every phone for years now )
But when using the stock launcher, I noticed the 'At A Glance' widget is just showing me Day and Date, and not the weather next to it. I tried to remove that widget and use my good old Chronus widget looks 99.99% exactly the same but is more customization and I can have it with the weather to the right looking just like the Google one., but it looks stupid if I can't remove the stock one.
Any help would be appreciated thx

Let me try that. I only use Location when running Maps, never else. It's silly the weather app doesn't let us manually enter on our prefered location.
Ok I turned Location / GPS on in the drop down notification shade, still no weather on the widget.
Wish I could just remove the default widget and put my Chronus widget there instead. But that's what Nova is for I guess.
I followed this guys guide, and it still isn't working;
Swipe from home screen to your cards.
Tap on the three vertical dots in the top right hand corner (I'm original pixel on 8.1 mind, you're on the newer pixel 8.0).
Select "customize feed".
Scroll down to "Weather", select "view all settings". Ensure "weather updates" and "weather updates for your location" are both on. It might take a while if these were off for the widget to appear.
After that (if it's still not working) you can go to the weather card itself (search weather after swiping to your cards and enter the weather card). Tap the three horizontal lines in the top left corner.
Select "settings".
Select "Your feed"
Under "Get notified about", two things to enter and turn on:
"Weather alerts for substantial changes"
And
"Current Weather condition"
I did all of that, and still no weather on the At A Glance widget on the home screen.

According to the Pixel Users Forum, open Customize>>Weather and leave On updates for your location but turn OFF Weather updates fixes the problem after a reboot and a few minutes wait. Give it a whirl, and let us know.

Oh so that's why it's not working on. Screw that, I'm not wasting battery just to see the current weather.
That's why I like my Chronus widget, it looks exactly the same, but can have the location entered manually, and not need to have my battery killer GPS on all day long, that's just rediculous

The Chronus Pixel 2+ widget is awesome. Depending on where you click on it, it will open clock, calendar, weather app of choice, or settings. I set weather source to Dark Sky and it works great.

It is a great widget but unfortunately the stock at a glance widget as permanently stuck on the home screen I would like to remove it and put the Kronos widget there instead but you can't do that when running the pixel launcher

Weather on the lock screen?

Does anyone know how to enable lock screen weather? I've never had it on the phone, but would like it.
You need a weather app and allow to push news to your lockscreen.
Settings-->Security-->Settings for Lockscreen-->Display all notifications

Add weather widget to home screen on Nokia 6.1 with Android 9.0?
I did a search for weather on Google, and came up with a standard Google weather screen. One of the options is to add widget to the home screen, however when I selected this, nothing happened.
The "At a Glance" preferences for the home screen do not include a weather option. See screenshot.
Before the phone updated to Pie, I believe the weather was part of the "At a Glance" options.
I tried installing Nova launcher, but when I attempted to add the Google weather widget, it didn't work there either. It almost seems as if Google has not coordinated two parts of their operating system to work properly together.
Can anyone else confirm this behavior, or might it be exclusive to Nokia phones?
