Thinking about picking up a 7x/Mate Se, and was curious if it was Ok Google detection with the screen off?
Haven't seen it mentioned anywhere so guessing not, but figured worth checking.
The OK Google feature does not work off screen
Related
Whenever I use googlenow, the hotword detection only works on first use. When you first bring it up and the search bar read "Search, or say Google." So I say google and ask it a question and it displays the results. However any subsequent attempt to say google, does nothing (and of course I still have the app open). Is this by design? Or is something wrong? Has anyone seen this and know of a fix? S-Voice seems to work all the time. I am able to say "Hi Galaxy" to activate it.
I think this is intentional, it's how it has worked on all of my devices. Hopefully they change it, but I assume it's because Now isn't a conversational assistant like Siri or S voice.

Do you mean for "OK Google" detection?
If "OK Google" is what you mean, like the other poster was asking, I think it's a feature of the Google Now launcher.

OK Google should work with any launcher. Make sure you have it turned on in Google, it's off by default and that you have it set from any screen. I just configured it on my Developer Edition model.

There is an always listening feature.
Works when screen is off

None of these features are the "always listening" feature.
QCOM chips since the 801 I think have a built in low power core for hotword detection. Most moto phones have it, some samsung phones have it, NO htc phone has ever had it even though the chips DO HAVE that feature! Why the hell not ... is my question.
How do you know they don't have it?
Is there software available to take advantage of it?

There is the physical core that is always on which uses almost 0% power to listen for a phrase. This has been present since snapdragon 800. The 810 certainly has it, but qualcomm has never released a public api for it. I believe the company would be required to license it privately. My question is, why has no HTC phone ever had this feature? Surely they need it considering their marketing department is comprised of untrained monkeys and almost every recent phone they put out has been overshadowed...
i noticed that under the settings for the google app and the voice option .... it says that it isnt available for my current language (Uk english). So perhaps that is the reason you cannot have it "always on". No idea why it isnt supported but perhaps it is something to be developed and supported in the near future. Search still works in the app via voice command ... only a click away.
my question is why is it so urgent and needed when screen is off etc? the app lets you use the voice command ... with the widget on screen it's only a click away.
Perhaps make some enquiries with HTC or Google themselves and see if you can get some answers there?

The ok google hotword detection is separate from the low power core. The ok google detection is only while the screen is on.

Sounds like you are describing s-voice that my s3 had. You could program the phone to do various things with trained phrases. For example "wake up Galaxy" would wake the phone up and then ask for a command. I haven't seen this feature at all on the m9.
Hot word detection does work.. What exactly are you trying to do?
I thought I had saw a thread about this but couldn't find it when I searched.
I have noticed sometimes "Ok Google" will not work when my screen is off. Sometimes I have to turn the screen on to get it to detect but just now I tried and it wouldn't detect it even when I woke the device. It didn't detect it until I swiped into google now and looked to make sure the setting didn't get turned off or something (it didn't and all the settings were correct so I exited settings) and then after that it started working again. Anyone else notice any issues with it not always detecting you say "Ok Google". This was the first time it didn't detect it when the screen was off or when the screen was on though.

I had this happen only once so far. Had to reboot device as it seemed Google was logging me out of chrome and other apps as well. I decided to wipe device and flash the factory image and it has not happened again. Yet...
I've had this happen to me as well. More than a few times. Verizon Pixel, unlocked, rooted, and running ElementalX-0.05 (Not saying any of that is causing this).
I have the same issue as well.
Had it a few times from lock screen on a stock Pixel XL.
I have had it happen quite a bit. Started a support ticket with Google .. and they blamed third party apps.. That wasn't much help, as don't we all have apps on our phone. My phone is not rooted. Not sure how to track this one down.
Same problem for me, and I have remained stock.
Good to know it's just not me. I'm completely stock as well. It seems to happen when I have let my phone sit for a while and not used it. I wonder if something is happening when the phone goes into deep sleep/doze.
Same problem here.

Yep happening to me too.
Verizon XL Elemental X P firmware for now.
It was working and it stopped at some point. Haven't tried to trouble shoot any apps yet. I'm having to wake and unlock. Trusted voice is on.
Thoughts / ideas?
Same issue here. Stock Pixel XL.
Same for me too. Stock Pixel XL
Yeah ok google doesnt always hear u. Everything stock non rooted strait from the google gods
Same here...all stock. Works great sometimes but others when the screen is off I'll go to ask it something and get no response.
Same here. Stock. Annoying AF.
Contacted Google Support. The staff told me to turn on and off Google Assistant then reboot the phone. Still no luck. The staff also mentioned that they never aware of this issue...
This issue is part of a larger issue stemming from the microphone not working. Have any of you also noticed while on a call, suddenly the person can no longer hear you but the call doesn't drop until someone hangs up. There is a large post on Google Pixel community forums about this and the microphone issues. Apparently they believe it's software related.
Hi guys. Please check your APN setting.
"OK Google" works for me after I amended my APN. Not sure why they are related but it works for me.

Does anyone have OK Google hotword working on their device to unlock device?
On my oneplus6t if the phone screen is off, and has been sitting untouched for awhile I can say "OK Google" and it automatically unlocks the phone, turns on screen, and auto launches Google listening.
Can anyone confirm if it works for their mate 20 x?
If yes, what model number do you have?
And does it work if you set up finger print to unlock the phone? (Will it bypass finger print and unlock)

Google actually removed this from Android 9. Some OEMs keep it. However is it's a security flaw and Google has removed it.

O gosh this is horrible.
After you said this I googled more info and you're right.
Surely this can be made whole again.
Couldn't we copy the APK from a Android 9 pie device that has a good working ok Google hotword and paste it into the mate20x as a system app via root?
There is this tasker profile that uses "Emy" to trigger/replace "Ok google"
Does it work when the phone is awake and in the homescreen without hitting any button?
Does this work on the China version?
Hi guys, anyone having any issues with hotword detection? I've got it enabled but it's not working at all.
Been working fine for my wife and I on our P6Ps. Good luck, I hope you get it working.
