Also, tell from which device you are upgrading or staying...?
Big news!
quote from http://bgr.com/2018/02/25/galaxy-s9-preorder-pricing-best-deals-t-mobile-vs-verizon/
"Best Buy’s preorders will open on Friday, March 2nd, and Best Buy has a big headline offer to try and entice customers. Best Buy customers save $100 when preordering on a Verizon, AT&T or Sprint plan, on top of saving up to $350 when trading in a qualified smartphone. That’s total savings of $450, although as we note below, Verizon and AT&T are charging significantly more than Samsung for the device, so assuming Best Buy is using Verizon and AT&T’s pricing, the savings compared to buying from Samsung are not as great as it might seem."
That's 390 for S9+ and 270 for S9
What!
Currently have S7 Edge and i'n thinking to get the S9+, but i'm very disappointed with the design.

I'm coming from a Oneplus 3, i really like this phone(i've tryied s8) but i'm not sure because of modding barriers like locked bootloader and knox counter
Nah!!! Sticking with the best phone...One Plus 5t....
If it doesnt come with the OEM unlock issue the note 8 has (talking about exynos, i dont waste money on crapdragon versions) i will get one.
If it does then ill pass on it like i did not on the note 8.

In all likelihood I'll be going to the S9+ from the Essential PH-1. The Essential was a terrible choice for me but I couldn't justify over $1000 for a pixel 2XL. I'll likely get the S9+ through my carrier. I've gotten quite used to stock Android over the years so a skinned version on the Galaxy will be different. We'll see....
I'll be getting the S9+ at the beginning of 2019, when the price starts to decrease a little. I'll be upgrading from my S7 Edge which just turned a year old few weeks ago.

Dont do it.
I got a S8+ last december and i regretted it. battery was the worst (3,5-4h sot max) and the software lag too annoying. samsung is good for the first 6 months, then they begin to age rapidly
everybody knows that so i had sell my s8+ for a lot less than i bought it for. got me a mate10pro, happy now.
if u want s9 so badly, try to look for second hand around 2 months after launch... i think thats the better choice if you still want to experience the high

I would have to agree on the first part, where Samsung's software does not age beautifully most of the time (my S7 edge thankfully is still running well and has maintained it's fluidity even after a year). Samsung still needs to learn to prioritise on optimisation IMHO. They focused wayy to much on the UI/UX till they forgot about the core system itself.
And yeah. I might also consider going for a second hand S9+ if the reviews don't go according to my expectations. I'll be waiting for MKBHD's (popular tech guy) review and will be watching it the moment it becomes available.

I will agree, upgrading from a s7e is useless, the only reason that can be is a little more processing power, but still it isn't enough, and s7e for me too is running smoothly although there had been issues with build quality, but i really don't think mate 10 is more in performance than s8, maybe in other areas like ui etc it could be. I will pass on s9 and wait until there is a phone with real upgrade not some marketing gimmicks.

True, the mate10pro has exceptional battery life as well as lag free UI though. Before s8 I had a huawei Nexus 6p, had great battery life too (got warranty replacement after 1.5 years with fresh battery) so the s8 kinda feld like a downgrade.
I think the CPU speed is highly overrated nowadays and does not make a real impact on everyday use. (Apples Chip ist supposedly 2x faster than 835 but does the iPhone feel 2x faster?
All in all I upgraded for the bezelless screens... Anything else my Nexus 6p was almost as good at.
Anyone else who has a 2016 flagship (s7e or mate 9 or iPhone 7) should not upgrade for another reason than the larger screens... Anything else in the new phones has only improved a little and does not justify the price in my opinion (unless having the latest tech is part of your lifestyle)

Agreed , but iphone 8 and X is almost 2x faster in real life too, so yes cpu power does impact in real life, search for their app loading times and video editing times on web, the fastest android phones were note 8 and then s8, they were lagging almost 1.5x.
And yes mate 10 got excellent battery life too thanks to its 4000 mah battery, i think every phone should have atleast 4000 mah battery these days,

Well I don't know anyone who is editing video on his phone... That's what I mean with everyday a friend friend of mine has iPhone 8 and it doesn't feel significantly faster in my opinion, it's more about ram keeping apps for running (so you don't actually need to look for launch speed) and internet speed
Yes I think the biggest Upgrade in the future needs to be bigger batteries in order to keep up with the screens and all the other new stuff

You know I have the s7 edge since release, it is still a beast. Can handle any game on the play store, lags here and there. But dont thing upgrading is worth it imo. Maybe when foldable phones come lol
Which custom rom & kernel developers will be getting the S9/S9+ ?
If not, will they be getting the Note 9 instead ?
I think i would be upgrading because this sounds like a perfect replacement for iphone-7. As for performance , I think it depends individual to individual on his config and usage patterns. There are 3 galaxy phones in my house including an aging s6 edge and all seem to be working fine.
Yes, its hard to match iphones in their speed and zero-lag but there are so many trade-offs that purchasing a iphone ahead of a s9 or a note-8 is not a worthy option.
I'm on Galaxy Note 4 and LineageOS 14.1. UHD video recording is not working and I need it. Better low light performance too on S9+. I don't like the curved glass though. I'd also much rather take a removable battery over any kind of IP rating but gotta move along with the times, I guess. I don't undertsand the all-glass exterior idea at all - it's slippery and a protective case is a must, adding to the cost.
Definitely getting an S9 as long as there's no down payment on Jump on Demand. On a v30 now, and the thing is just crap. It stutters - literally. As in the sound stutters and I have to reboot to fix it. It also has all kinds of lag on bluetooth stuff. 8 years on Android and never had anything this bad. Going back to Samsung and not looking at LG for a long time again.
I will stay on my S8 for now... S9 designed so bad... ?

I wouldn't buy a US or Canadian version, the bootloader's will be locked again...total waste of money.
Go exynos for sure, the OEM unlock issue is a helluva alot better to have than have the device be totally locked down.

Hello all, having a dilemma here: I'm selling my Galaxy S8 on eBay and am now looking for a new phone.
I did some research and then found the S9 and OP6T and now cannot make up my mind, I simply don't know which one to get.
There's no comparisons on the internet really, so I thought I'd just ask you!
I know the S9 wouldn't be worth the upgrade coming from the S8 if it wasn't for Treble support.
At least that's what I think.
So the S9 is actually cheaper than the 6T atm, but I still need to have a few opinions on which device to get.
Are you guys enjoying your S9 or would you rather have the OnePlus now that it's out?
Would you recommend the S9 if you'd be using it for the next 4 years?
Thanks a lot in advance!
It really just depends on you. You want a better camera, IP68, no notch, headphone jack, much better speakers, better screen, a fingerprint scanner that actually works or maybe Samsung pay you get the S9. Since you've used an S8 already you already know what you're getting with TouchWiz so if you want a better software experience and value performance over all else than the 6T is your phone. But I'd honestly wait a bit before deciding since there have been a couple controversies surrounding the 6Ts touch latency
S9 6T
S9 the perfect phone.
6T the perfect gamer
I'd rather go with the SGS9 Exynos variant but that is just me. As I have heard nothing but bad things with regards to Qualcomm's Snapdragon series of SOCs.

I have the s9+ and I would say don't get either. Get the s9 snapdragon 845. I have the Exynos 9810 it isn't good.
The Exynos 9810 has such bad optimization it literally performs like last year's snapdragon 835. Geekbench doesnt truly reflect the peformance since in every other benchmark it peforms worse than the 845 and in real life.
A lot of people on XDA on the screen on time section of real life review are getting below 5 hours of SOT with the regular s9 with the exynos 9810 that's how bad it is. I have the s9+ I have gotten over 7hrs but with a lot of changes and making sure to monitor apps. It isn't fun. People with the snapdragon equipped s9 are getting really good battery life that is even as good as the s9+ Exynos.
The One plus 6t has no headphone jack and it's cameras sensor size is only 1.22um compared to even the s7,s8, s9 which have been 1.4um for a while now. Software can only take you so far. 6T is a nice phone but it isn't an upgrade in terms of screen, camera, audio. The software and the 845 are better and even the battery is good. But it doesn't out weigh it's over faults.
If the Camera and screen and no headphone jack isn't important to you then get the 6T. Otherwise find a way to import the snapdragon 845 equipped s9.
if you care about the camera and edge screen and you like touch wiz then go with the 9 ( the battery is poor i am getting 1:46- screen on time) from 7 the morning until 2 o'clock the noon 40 percent left ) the max screen on time I got is 3:24
if you care about speed, battery, new technology like the fingerprint in the display if want stock android then go with the op6t
ps for whatever reason my s9 is lagging sometimes with normal use like opening the camera on unlocking it with fingerprint sometimes the text of lock screen stays for a few minutes

Thanks for your lengthy post! I agree, I would go for the Snapdragon if it was being sold here in Europe and had an unlockable boot loader. Not having the latter is a real deal breaker for me though.
I'm fine with TouchWiz but I want my phone to last for about 4 years which means installing a custom ROM later on.
I think I'll be getting the S9 now, thank you very much for your replies!

I'd recommend you navigate in both forums and check how many complaints there are about every device. You'll certainly notice that Oneplus 6(T) forum is full of complaints of annoying bugs here and there about hardware and software.
I personally just returned to S9 for the third try of adopting an OP6... the S9 is just perfect and the stereo speakers are simply otherworldly ! The camera also is far far ahead.
I see that the s20fe has higher specs, likely to be updated about the same amount of time
It's pointing me hard to leave the pixel family and rejoin (infuse and note 3) the Samsung family.
Anyone have any input? I see that Samsung seems to have a few processor and support issues. Obviously we do not know what issues the pixel 5 will bring but with a known chipset I'm guessing few.

Probably get better answers there, and probably once the devices are both out.
I left samsung for lack of timely updates years ago and went back to Samsung this year since they've fixed the updating policy. 5 I found a new s20 plus for just over 1/2 off, and the battery life has been insane compared to pixel 3.

Actually chose this forum on purpose since neither are out.
I own pixel devices so I'm really looking for the Samsung argument.
Thanks though.
You'd honestly probably get more bang for your buck with the S20 FE. The specs are better on the FE side and if software updates are an issue, Samsung just released recently that they're now supporting 3 years of android updates for their devices and I'm sure it'd apply to the FE.
Some specs to consider, the 120hz (FE) vs the 90hz (Pixel) may not seem that substantial but, in practice it can be noticeable. 25W Charging (FE) vs 18W (Pixel). 4500 mAh (FE) vs 4080 mAh (Pixel). SD865 (FE) vs SD765 (Pixel).
The biggest question for you to answer is, do you like stock ui or samsung one ui. Now, I will say samsung is feature enriched with the interface and you'll never be bored with your phone. I've been using the pre-beta one ui 3.0 on my galaxy and I'd like to think that it's actually nice. I've personally never been a fan of stock ui that pixels give but, again, that's my preference. Either way, both devices are solid.
I'm providing a spec sheet of the 2 for you to look at. Sorry it's a long stretched screenshot lmao, may have to save it or zoom in.

Thanks,
I actually suspect the p5 battery life to be similar due to the screen size I do agree the 20fe wins specs hands down.
My only gripe with pixel stock ui is the lack of a second notification volume slider.
I'm more concerned with things that I'm not aware of, such as "Samsung has wronged it's community""chipset bugs", broken promises, etc.

I'd say their reliability has definitely upped within the past say 3 years. Before the galaxy s8 it was kind of a mess. Now, their phones are relatively solid. The FE is gonna be well rounded if anything, phones like my Galaxy S20 Ultra push limits and almost too far (the 108mp camera has horrible auto focus), to where they fix it in the next generation (Note 20 Ultra uses a different auto focus mechanism) but, with that being said, the FE seems to use what they know works and go from there. If anything, it's a slightly mellowed down S20 with a flat screen and the S20 is a good phone. I wouldn't worry too much about updates, they're working pretty quick on 11 for us and that speaks volumes.
The pixel 5 is a midrange spec phone selling at flagship price, i would never buy it unless its less than $300

P5 or p4a? I agree on the p4a being a $300 phone.
The p5 is maybe $100 more than I'd like to see. But the flagship price anymore is $.9-1.1k and the p5 is likely $700.
I'll definitely be waiting for black Friday/cyber Monday to make the decision.
Right now a $600 fe is tempting, but again I've dug myself pretty deep into the pixel brand and an unlocked bootloader is worth something too.
One of my big things would be if it's going to be possible to get either of these with unlocked bootloaders.
I feel like the pixels usually have a way of doing that, but not the samsungs. At least not the US Snapdragon ones, and since i'm on a CDMA carrier, i can't use any of the exynos variants. Now Verizon is switching to VOLTE end of the year, but it looks like the exynos phones won't have that either.. There are some articles about being able to enable VOLTE on some samsung devices from 2018 / 19, but until everything is launched and folks mess around.. who knows. I don't know that i'll buy another phone unless I can get custom roms. It's just a whole different world.
So, I'll probably buy a new phone in the next month.
The 5G S20 FE looked very tempting on the specs card but after comparing it side to side with the Plus I have to say that I really prefer the form factor of the second one, we're talking about minimal differences but it just feels better in my hands so now that their price is equal I'm really confused!
How would you rate the Exynos S20 Plus today? Do you think it got better after several months and updates?
Comparison: https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=10377&idPhone2=10080
Camera and display are better on the S20+ (zoom, 64mp, depth camera, and higher res + high PPI)
S20 FE puts me off with the plastic rear, but it's big winning point is the snapdragon processor over the Exynos

It works perfectly fine for me, including occasional gaming (pubg) whole difference between snapdragon and exynos was just overblown and was based purely on benchmarks, in real word usage you will not notice difference - but you certainly will if you get snapdragon variant and will have to send it off for warranty repair - i am happy with mine not only that i bought another exynos variant for my nephew and he is very happy too
Hi.
Just ordered S21fe 5g 256gb. With all the discounts and a 200£ trade in I paid £424 only. Which I consider a massive bargain. I traded in my old £0 value galaxy S6. Supper happy with the price.
Replacing my beloved s10e. I went for S21fe instead of s22 because of optical fingerprint reader instead of ultrasonic which allows me to use tempered glass on the screen and still be able to use the fp reader on S21fe. Also slightly bigger screen and bigger battery.
I just hope I won't regret my choice.
Any thoughts? Can anyone who already owns S21fe say whether they love it, hate it or have mixed relationships with it. Thanks
Hi!
As you, I had the S7 and then, the S10e.
2 weeks ago, I bought the S21 FE.... and I really love it!
I just miss the S10e's fingerprint! I find it more useful on the S10e !! When you grab the S10e, the fingerprint naturally falls under your thumb.... but except this, I prefer the S21 FE
I really don't understand why they don't place the fingerprint a few centimeters higher....

And like you I think the fingerprint reader on the s10e is as good as it gets. The best possible placement.
I'm not a fan of in screen fingerprint readers at all but I guess it's something I'll need to get used to. All new phones have it for reasons unknown.

It depends on what you look for in a phone nowadays.
I personally hate the 3X telephoto. It's slow, blurry and feels like it belongs in the year 2015. It's really sad because there are older phones out there that outperform it. But this might be Samsung's camera software. If I use GCam It's way better, but GCam is really unstable with the S21 FE Snap.
I love everything else about it: price, size, UI, flat screen with no curves, weight, color, look, performance and especially video mode. It has really smooth transition between lenses when filming, and white balance is well calibrated for all of them. I've been through a few phones lately and watched a ton of reviews but came to the conclusion that this is the best bang for the buck right now. The alternatives are chinese phones with poor software and poor updates or Iphone but I'm too scared to change the ecosystem ).

I've read about the telephoto camera issues which I hope will improve with software updates.
Everything else you mentioned is basically my kind of thing. Reasonable size, flat screen, performance, UI. It's all great. And I was considering different options, like Pixel 6 but it only comes with 128gb and apparently is buggy like hell. Also different Chinese options but like you I'm not only used to samsung's ecosystem but I also think it's the best best out there. And with good lock it's so customizable. I love it. I really wanted to go for S22 or even S22+ but my OCD would not allow me to buy it knowing that I won't be able to slap a piece of protective glass onto the screen because of the ultrasonic fingerprint reader. So S21fe it is I'm just hoping I get the Snapdragon version. I was trying to find some info whether it's a snapdragon or exynos in UK but couldn't find any confirmation. Apparently it's snapdragon but can also be exynos XD

Yeah, at least be sure you get a Snapdragon and everything should be perfectly fine.
Personally I'm now waiting for the S22 FE to see what's new. Changing phones is always a hard choice because usually I'm thinking that if my phone has an issue that I don't like, I can just buy a new one that doesn't have the same issue and I will be happy. But what actually happens is, I spend money on a new device, and although my initial problem is solved, I find ten other issues I hate. And it's like I'm starting this never ending journey of buying and testing phones which is stressful. And then I come to the conclusion that I should've kept the initial phone with it's silly issue. It's like breaking up with the love of your life for one stupid mistake and hooking up with another women that drives you insane. You end up regretting it )))

Haha I know exactly what you mean. That's how I feel breaking up with my S10e. Absolutely the best phone samsung has ever made imo. But it's getting old battery needs charging twice a day now. So new phone is needed but I really feel, well I know for sure that I'm going to miss that device.
Dammit it looks like it's going to be an exynos version. That totally just put me off. I'm now leaning towards keeping the s10e and returning the S21fe when it arrives today.
Shame but it is what it is.
Oh, sorry to hear that... If the S21 FE is an Exynos in your region this could mean that the regular S21 might be Snapdragon. I guess you could try that. I wanted to,but couldn't because in my region it's the exact opposite )

Unfortunately S21 is also exynos. Every samsung phone in UK is exynos. Balls
I watched a few comparison videos and I feel like that Exynos 2100 isn't all that bad really.
I couldn't say they are bad but I'm more interested in the camera quality and Exynos are notorious for having washed out images and videos with a lot of noise reduction applied. Also, one big difference is the constant performance of the processor. Snapdragon can keep up with the same task without loosing too much performance but Exynos cannot. Also, the fact that Samsung sells phones with the same name but with a totally different processor is also bugging me. If you are not that concerned about cameras then I guess the Exynos might be fine also.
I think this guy sums it best:

I don't play games on my phone so I'm not worried about heat or "constant performance" as it won't really affect me. And if I play any games they're usually non demanding puzzle kind of games so that's fine.
As for the photos yes I've seen some tests and exynos does slightly worse job when it comes to processing which is a bit annoying. Especially that in UK the exynos 256gb version is more expensive than snapdragon version in the US. £749 vs $749. 1:1 UK works out more expensive.
But I'm actually leaning towards keeping it anyway. For the price that I paid I can't really complain. £424 is almost half price so I think I can live with Exynos
It just arrived and is charging before I start transfering all my stuff from the S10e. Unfortunately this will be either later this evening or tomorrow morning because I'm on my way to work now. Either way I hope I won't be disappointed.
1 day with S21fe... I'm quite impressed. Apart from the fingerprint reader which will take time to get used to i don't have anything to complain about really. Screen size is great. Phone is fast and really nice to use.
So far so good.
Ha ha! As I anyway told you
Good for you happy to hear that, I hope you enjoy it until something better comes along.
I got my snapdragon s21 fe 2 weeks ago. It's a fantastic phone. Got it for 500 bucks with the galaxy watch 4 44mm included. Great game performance, fantastic main and uw cam. Dolby atmos and the 120hz amoled provide a fantastic media experience. One ui 4.1 is very intuitive and a welcome change after having a xiaomi phone. The only 2 gripes I have are the battery and the android 12 restrictions. The battery is average in everyday casual use, but intensive games drain it a bit too fast for my liking. And the android folder restrictions in android 12 are preventing me from modding games.

I'll probably keep it for at least 2 years which I always do with my every phone. Had s10e for 2.5yrs.
So 2 years is definitely enough time for something better to come out
I finally found a file manager that bypasses folder restrictions on this phone. It's called MT manager
Did you tried Total Commander?
