is it possible to flash a android rom on the touch pro 2??? would be nice to have the hero rom on my touch pro 2 idk if its even possible
Yeah if you want to brick your phone then go ahead
You should give it to someone who wants it so bad
Dude Android is a different OS with a completely different architecture.
You may be able to port Android functions to Windows Mobile if someone is willing to do it, but it's impossible to use Android on WinMo *yet*.

I think he talks about running it nativelz on the phone...
I don|t know if you can think of a phone like a pc, but basically shouldnt it be possible to run android on the Rhodium with the right drivers and the right SPL ??
im just saying it would be nice i know its a diffrent os and i cant think of it as a pc but it all really is made by htc if u think about it if someone were able to find a way i would gladly run it on my touch...i realized when i hard reseted my phone it was very similar to when flashing the g1 thats y i asked
And don't forget they both run on the same Qualcomm MSM7200A. Making the supposition that they can be ported more plausible.
It's been ported quite nicely for the Vogue so I don't see why it couldn't be ported for the TP2. I think it just needs a dedicated dev team and a big enough user base to make it worthwhile... I'd definitely be interested in seeing that project come to light!

Yes I have a vogue (Winmo device) and have been using Android exclusively on it for the last month or so - it's fantastic! The reason I lurk in the TP2 thread is hoping Android gets ported over - I love the TP2 and its high on my "want" list but can't go back to Winmo - hopefully Android isn't too far off.
I would pay for it...
Seriously, by donation or actually having to pay for it I would have no issue forking out some dough for android on my TP2. As long as i had all the functions like wifi, 3g, bluetooth, etc. My concern is that the phone may run slower with the higher resolution screen but then again the g1 doesnt run at max cpu speeds on a stock build so maybe running it overclocked(max speed) can help. The battery life on my tp2 is wayyyy better than my g1 so if running the core faster is needed i feel the battery could keep up at least on the level of the g1. Also the additional ram may help too. Its strange how even people who dont know much about phones keep asking if i am gonna run android on it. I love my TP2 but its the hardware I love and the os is good but unless the winmo marketplace gets up an running the momentum android has is just too attractive.

I agree. I would love to have Sense UI on my TP2 once I get it. I hate WinMo, the only reason I'm getting the TP2 is because it's such a siiiick device
I'm happy to find out that I am probably not the only person who fell in love with the device after demo'ing one from the T-Mobile store. I have used windows mobile since about 3 devices ago, got a G1, currently running Sense-UI and loving it!! If the Touch Pro 2 could port an android build over with enough Developer support it could easily be done, just as all the rom flashing we never though would be possible for the G1 but ended up doing daily =) Spread the word and keep asking for developer support, don't be afraid to flash a little cash to make it worth their time, and the community will push it in the right direction
NO!!!DO NOT RUN ANDRIOD ON YOUR TOUCH PRO 2. This is totally different with its own os and that will destroy your phone....
Guinea Pig.
I dont mind being the guinea pig with my TP2 if someone can come up with a way of running android on it. I have a g1 I can use in the mean time. I would even consider a temporary phone donation if this gets some serious attention. Of course I would need it back eventually lol.

Uhm, no? Android runs through HARET, which you run from WinMO, then it closes down WinMO so that Android is the only OS running... and it runs off your SD-card. I have android on my old ELF, and I've ****ed up the install so many times, I dunno' what to do anymore, haha. Phone works fine.

Oh, so this is how the Android runs on the phone. I was under the illusion that I have to delete winmo for the running of android.....(I should learn more about that....)
Interesting, I had a G1 and loved Android. I would pay/donate money to the cause. It's worth a shot with the TP2.
I would love to see this too. I have been using a G1 for the past year and love Android. I just ordered a TP2 however, but would really like to get Android on it eventually.
+1 i would love this aswell
I've been thinking about starting the port (have to wait until the 26th to get my TP2 sadly) for Android. Not great with coding but good enough to make tweaks and such to the linux kernel. If there are any others who are interested, maybe we should get together and get the ball rolling? The TP version should work on the TP2 (same hardware underneath still) with the exception of the screen and CPU. Anyway, if anyone here is good at coding for Linux/hardware/IO/etc, please shoot me an email/PM! Don't really have a need for guinea pigs yet since anything we do will need to be tested right away, not whenever the next guinea pig is available
has anyone heard of any developers that have shown interest in creating Rom's for this tab? I am very interested from the spec point of view in the 8.4, but I do not like the sense UI and would want a speedy rom for it, but it does not look like much is happening on here. I know this is a new tab, but that is a sticking point for me before buying. If not this then I think I will wait for the galaxy tab 8 (rumored), the specs on it look great as well and it will have good support from google updating the base software so I think it will have a good development forum. Any thoughts?

We just got recovery so something should happen soon if at all. Crpalmer has Cyanogenmod 11 working on this tab. It is an expensive tablet so it will not get much interest due to the price.

It is a darn great tablet spec wise though, it looks like it could handle anything you threw at it. I am really salivating over it, I wish I was a better coder to be able to create some roms myself.
With crpalmer's CM 11, anyone wanting to develop their own AOSP ROM, or port another, should have a relatively easy time of it, since kernel is already built.

I'm hoping for Android Revolution HD from @mike1986.

I figure it's possible, but could I theoretically port the Android L Preview for the Nexus 5 to my HTC M8 Google Play Edition?
The hardware is fairly similar: same amount of RAM, same resolution, pretty much identical CPUs, same Bluetooth number.
I'm aware it was recently ported to the Nexus 4, but the 4 and 5 are both LG devices.
It's summer, so I have plenty of time, and I really want to have KitKat on my M8 XD
I found a couple tutorials for porting ROMs, but they've been between the same manufacturer.
I'm almost wiling to just go buy a Nexus 5, but I much prefer the M8 so I'd like to give this a shot if possible.
Thanks in advance!
*I wasn't sure whether to put this here or in general Android Q&A, so please let me know if this is in the wrong place.
Posting here is fine.. Also just an FYI you already have "KitKat" on your M8 can it be ported? Anything can be ported with the right knowledg and resources. Similarity between devices is key, manufacturers being different isn't a deal breaker. You basically just need to figure out exactly what makes your device tick. Kernel is probably going to be tricky. If you can get it booted or at least partially booted a good kernel Dev can probably help out to get us a legit M8 Android L AOSP kernel and then from there the rest can be worked out ie: drivers and such for graphics, ril should be easy, WiFi will probably suck and be wonky... It can be done but will probably be a bunch of time and hackery lol... PM me... Maybe will get something going together! I have quiet a bit of Android knowledge when it comes to porting stuff... Hit me up

Good luck. The experts with cm11 can't even get their roms working perfect. They still have quite a few bugs. It is up to you, but I feel spending a bunch of time on a preview is not a good usage of time. I have a nexus 5 also, and trust me, L is nothing really special. They have GPE roms that have almost all the L features already available for an m8.
Hi !, i´ve been without a smartphone for about 10 months and im currently contemplating getting a zenfone 2, the 4gb of ram version obviously, and i´ve been thinking how does the future looks for the zenfone 2? i mean sure, asus has already released the kernel source and most would think "OMG great! ROMs galore incoming!!" but that doesn´t seem to be the case. also, as far as updates go, for some reason i don´t see the zenfone 2 getting past an android 5.1 update.
maybe it is very hard (or just a pain in the ass) to develop for the intel cpu ?
im also considering the alcatel onetouch idol 3 wich everyone seems to love specially because of the price (and those JBL speakers), but im also considering getting a samsung galaxy alpha because the snapdragon 801 version sits right in the middle of the two price wise (check amazon US) , and the alpha camera records 60fps video wich i love, i know the LG G3 originally didn´t have 60fps video but got it later from right here on XDA,
so do you think the comunity will warm up to the ZF2 and start getting content out? (like a mod to capture 60 fps video on the zenfone 2 later down the road)
i don´t usually start threads but i just want to know what people think!.
Asus hasn't unlocked the boot loader yet, which will interfere with development...There's root so users can enjoy that at least. Unfortunately it'll be awhile until Asus releases an easy method to solve this obstacle.
Other devices have methods to bypass locked bootloaders, but nothing like that exists for the Zen.

So I was all up and ready to buy a Moto G5 plus and then saw the Honor 8 Pro will be out soon. Everything about it looks great - The display (isn't amoled - thankfully!) and the size, the Kirin 960 looks like it competes with the Snapdragon 835 in many ways. And the price of course is very reasonable.
I'll be coming from the Nexus 5 so I've been in and around XDA a long time, flashing ROMs etc. I don't expect the Honor 8 Pro to be anywhere near as Dev friendly as the Nexus 5. But I was wondering if anyone can tell me what it's actually like for Devs with Huawei phones and getting hold of the sources needed to make custom ROMs or even get LineageOS and all the hardware working? I get the sense (but I'm not sure) that at the moment it's a *real* challenge because Huawei, like most manufacturers don't really believe that engaging with the Dev community can provide a great boost to brand visibility and "geek cred" which will then filter out into recommendations to friends and family etc: It can be a very strong marketing tool essentially. But companies rarely understand that it would actually benefit them in a business sense. So...
Do Huawei provide all the "sources" and resources needed for developing custom ROMs *eventually* or do they just not bother at all in some cases or make it very hard in others? I saw on a Honor 8 (not pro) thread that there are "ambassadors" around. Can these guys interact with Huawei/Honor to encourage them to help out with the necessary technical stuff to make building ROMs a viable possibility, and is that likely to get a good response or is it already in process?
I mean if I get the Honor 8 Pro, I'll use it "as is". EMUI is not bad but still quite amateurish/90s in many ways and I'm thinking I can go along way to fixing it by using a custom launcher. But if there's a good chance Honor/Huawei will suddenly become much more helpful with Dev stuff it would make it a dream phone for sure. Any info?
I've been looking in to this too. It seems you can unlock the bootloader on EMUI devices in an official way so that's a good start.
Have you had a look around the other Huawei and Honor forums? There do seem to be ROMs and unofficial Lineage OS builds, but I haven't found much info on sources, etc.
I have actually pre-ordered an Honor 8 Pro, it looks awesome and at £474 I couldn't resist. I think the major manufacturers have lost the plot in terms of flagship pricing.

I'm in the same boat. I love the H8Pro but all I see outside of stock based roms, is one unofficial Lineage build for the Honor 8. The camera is currently listed as not working still. It's like that on a lot of phones that aren't too well known. My Le Pro 3 for example didn't have working camera on the marshmallow roms for a while and then when they got it working the 7 roms didn't have it until very recently. So it's a maybe it will at all. The problem is that while a lot of these companies allow bootloader unlocking, no they don't release sources. That's a big problem. That means devs have to build things like camera drivers from scratch, and without them being that popular devs working on it aren't usually too plentiful. Also not too much kernel support for that Kirin chipset either.
Well let me ask you guys. How much custom ROMs do you use these days ? I myself found that after changing to custom ROM I found back to stock ROM. These days stock roms has become so good that they actually brings the true character of a phone
Apparently I'm not the only one facing this decision. I've owned the Moto 2nd gen, G3, and G4 and frankly every time I've moved up a model, I like them a little less. For that reason alone, I'm trying to look past the Moto G5. Now that the Honor 9 is coming out, I'm taking a look at the Honor 8, hoping the cost will come down. I've always carried my phone in my front pocket so the size difference over the G4 I have now has me a little worried, but the weight really doesn't matter. I'm really looking very hard at the Honor 8 Pro though since price wise, it looks pretty close to the best bang for the buck.
ehh ..

personally, i am a fan of their emui5, amazing ui tho,
and their harware is solid,
camera is good too,
battery lives are excellent (thanks to emui optimisations)
but my only regret is that i dont have much of a custom roms to play with, given that their kirin chip is not open sourced
offcourse, their is open kirin team unofficially, but they are not working on every device, so only complaint will be kernel sources,
many honor devices has no development at all,
