Kindle Fire HD 8.9 - Loading a rom - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Arg. I did something really dumb by accident. I wiped the OS off my Kindle Fire HD and now I can't load a new rom. I need some help.
I am able to boot into TWRP, but I can't mount the usb. My computer won't recognize the kindle fire so that I won't be able to load a new ROM. I checked the Device Manager on my Win7 machine and it doesn't look like the pc recognizes the USB drivers.
What are some things I can do? What drivers do I need?
Help would be great.

[Q] Not even sure what question to ask...

I'm having some kind of brain dysfunction... I've rooted a g-tab, a Nook Tablet and, last night, a new Kindle Fire (Barebones cm7), all by following xda's wonderful instructions.
This morning, my upstairs Windows 7 computer crashed. No problem, I've got Windows 7 on my office computer, downstairs. I've always done any rooting upstairs. The Kindle is working fine, rooted, fast and smooth, but I wanted to put some of my ebooks (stored in Ubuntu one) on, so I took the Kindle downstairs, plugged it into the office computer, and was amazed to see the computer recognize it as a Kindle, but give a "Device drivers were not correctly installed" error. The kindle does not show up in Windows Explorer at all. It is visible in device manager, with a yellow triangle beside it.
My Ubuntu laptop doesn't see it at all.
Wow. too much background, sorry! My question is, did I do something upstairs that I've forgotten downstairs and on the laptop?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Did you install a different driver than the one upstairs. Try using the same driver.

Ummm. This is most likely my problem. I have no memory of ever having installed any driver either up or downstairs. I must have done so at some point. I have rooted three different devices.
Uh, what kind of driver should I install?
It depends,
First method you could try kindle fire utility 9.5 and run drivers.bat to install the driver.
Second method you can install android sdk, download Google USB driver or something and then connect your kindle. Then uninstall the driver you have now for the kindle. It probably says "kindle" in device manager. Then disconnect and reconnect your kindle and the driver should install.
The second is complicated but it worked for me.

Download KFU and run the drivers.bat file.

Tell me what method works and if you have any questions just ask.

[Q] For the love of God, someone have my answer

I'm tired of searching Google for answers and not finding them. So the problem is my Kindle Fire won't connect via USB to my PC, it will charge on it though. Now, this is where MY SITUATION IS DIFFERENT. Yes that is all caps for people who want to skip over these crucial details.
Kindle Fire was rooted, now it is not.
I do not have a Kindle Fire or Amazon device under device manager
Installing the adb drivers does nothing
I see nothing when Kindle Fire is plugged in to PC other than it is charging, NO MATTER HOW I DO IT
I feel like I'm forgetting some of the other more common answers that don't apply to me. Basically, I want to connect to my Kindle Fire to my PC but I have nothing on the PC end to recognize the Kindle Fire. It was rooted using the Kindle Fire utility 0.9.6, I unrooted using said utility as well and had to go and manually delete something IIRC so that it would boot normally into Kindle Fire, but it also not takes a lot longer to boot than it did out of the box. Is it possibly still rooted?
ALSO, Kindle Fire utility 0.9.6 can't find the Kindle Fire either.
What do I do?
Dou you have custom recovery installed?
I don't believe it did, or does. Whatever KFU put on it as standard is what it had on it. The most frustrating part of it is I don't have anything in Device Manager for it. No android phone, no Kindle/Kindle Fire, or Amazon, nothing. Installing the drivers does nothing, I even did a factory reset on the Kindle Fire and got nothing. I'm lost on this and I really want to put some books on my Kindle Fire so I don't have to read them on my iPhone.
When you boot your device, what does the boot logo look like (images, color, etc.)?
Kindle Fire logo, then blinks back on and glazes over from right to left and stays there for a while before turning on.

Orange and white Kindle Fire logo? Since you didn't specify I'll just assume that is correct.
Drivers are most likely the reason your computer won't detect the device correctly. Unfortunately with Windows, there is about a hundred solutions to this problem and none of them are effective enough to be called a real fix.
If you have a flash drive, you can set up a Linux LiveUSB and run SoupKit so you can issuee adb and fastboot commands, without dealing with Windows based driver problems and you can work to get to the root of your problem more effectively.

All right, do I need to download and install android sdk for Linux? Using terminal and looking for adb devices using the Linux LiveUSB with SoupKit didn't find any adb devices with the Kindle Fire plugged in. So I assume I need to download sdk to install drivers?

If you used the preconfigured iso no other steps are needed. Adb and fastboot are already setup. Time to consider your cable and or USB port that you are using.
Might be cable, plugged it into another computer (running windows) and it didn't see it.

Yeah, it was the cable, I'll have to go pick up one for myself.

[Q] Kindle fire not detected - "USB device not recognized"

I have a kindle fire which wasn't doesn't connect to the computer. I get an error message such as "USB device not recognized". I had rooted the kindle fire and I thought that this problem could have been because of the rom or some kind of kernal error so I installed the stock rom thinking that I will just re-root if however the connection problem still was still there. So now I have kindle fire which is not rooted so doesn't have google market and I want to root it however cannot find a way to get it connected. I have tried 3 different computers and many different cables however still no success. I have also tried reinstalling the drivers, turning off and on the kindle fire with the cable plugged in. Could the port on the kindle fire be broken even though it charges fine. Also, would a factory cable help because I don't want to order it if it doesn't work. What other options do I have? I live in UK and this kindle fire is the 1st gen which was only available in US so cannot send it to amazon for checking.
Your help will be appreciated :good:
Do you have TWRP installed? If so, try connecting it to the computer using the USB mount via TWRP...
I have 3 Kindle Fire tablets that I installed a JB ROM on for some friends, and one will not connect to the computer (except via TWRP). I never did figure out why, but I could copy a ROM and Gapps to it while in TWRP. I set them all up the same, and that one still doesn't connect.

Plug the device in and manually uninstall the unknown device that shows up in Device Manager. Then Find the directory where the 'android_winusb.inf' is stored (somewhere in your WINDOWS directory), delete it, and start over.

If this is the stock OS, then I would say that is definitely a problem. You may have some system files missing for detecting USB devices plugged in as UMS. Are you able to access any flash drives?

Yes, my computer detects my galaxy s2 and other flash drives perfectly. Is there any way of rooting the kindle fire without connecting it to the computer? Because all i want is to have the play store on my device
The new version of KFU seems to have a much more effective driver install. You should try looking into that.

Windows version?
Listed as what in Device manager?

I am having the same issue with my KF2. USB Comms disappeared in terms of the device being recognised by XP but strangely fastboot worked and I was able to load CM11 on the device after downloading it via wifi and installing TWRP via fastboot. Still no USB on CM11 but its briefly recognised for a split second when it first boots. Monting the volume via TWRP has not effect either.
Have tried a variety of cables and have tried connecting the Kindle to an XP netbook, downloading fresh drivers etc etc etc.
Any ideas out there?

[Q] Rooted Kindle 6.3.2 stuck in TWRP

I used the Kindle Fire Utility to root my Kindle 6.3.2 and then I screwed up. I think I accidentally used the 'Advanced Wipe' feature in TWRP and killed my Kindle.
Right now I can boot my Kindle to the TWRP recovery no problem. But I cannot get my PC to see the device so that I can sideload CyanogenMod or something similar.
When I plug my Kindle into my Win 7 PC it dings, it sees the usb connection, the and Kindle starts recharging so I know there is some connection. In Device Manager it shows that I have an Android ABD device.
But I cannot see the Kindle in Explorer so I can move the CyanogenMod .zip over to the kindle for installation.
I've tried every USB driver in the book and I am out of ideas. Also, I am a n00b at this so I hope I used all the terms correctly.
Help!
PS: As a side note, does Google Play still work with CyanogenMod? That is what started this whole mess - my CM Kindle would not recognize my Google Play games.
Thanks

[Q] After Rooting With Cyanogenmod 10.1.3 Windows 7 Won't Connect USB To Kindle Fire

I am brand new to rooting so please excuse the noob naiveté. I rooted my original version Kindle Fire with the stable version of Cyanogenmod 10.1.3. Everything went well until I tried to connect my Fire to my Windows 7 computer via USB cable. The computer will not connect to the Kindle Fire. When I go to the Device Manager I see the Kindle Fire listed as "Kindle" but I cannot communicate with the device. As per some other suggestions on the web I uninstalled the Kindle driver and tried to let Windows 7 install the correct driver. This has not worked. I tried to uninstall the current driver and use an older driver from Kindle Fire Utility 0.9.6 (I originally used version 0.9.8) but this too failed to be reconized and connect. Can anyone help me get my computer to recognize my Kindle Fire so I could transfer files? Thank you all in advance.

You should get a notification on the kindle when you plug it into the computer, you'll have to tap the notification to bring up a screen with the android guy and a button that says something along the lines of enable file transfer or enable usb our something, been a while don't remember lol, anyway click that and you should have it pop up on the pc for file share
