I am currently on Pixel Experience ROM with stock Kernel.
AR Beast R5 is release and I wanna try it!
But, I had few problem with previous versions of AR Beast.
So, Is there any way of backing up stock kernel from Pixel Experience?
///\\\
use flashify app
You can backup boot partition in twrp, flash ar and restore backup it if you want to go back to stock kernel.
In case of problems you can dirty-flash pixel experience zip file

Just two quick questions...
1. I'm running stock 2.2, rooted. Best kernel for battery life is..?
2. If I don't like the kernels I flash, how easy is it to go back to stock kernel?
Thanks.

nanroid before..and if you don't like a kernel. flash the old nanroid. Done. ALWAYS NANDROID.
ROM Manager
There are stock kernels available for d/l in ROM Manager.
Recommend d/l one (or several you want to try) into a folder on SD, flash them to test drive until you find one you like.
Backup current (working) setup in event you run aground.
Thanks! I figured nandroid, but didn't know if it would totally revert back to old everything. Appreciation!
Took the plunge and flashed custom ROM and kernel. Battery is being sucked dry at a rate about 10x faster than my stock config. If I restore my nandroid backup from before flashing anything, will the Kernel be restored too?
On the Epic4G three kernel was ina separate partition that had to be flashed on its own. Nor sure if the new memory architecture works the same way.

yes, nandroid restore from CWM will restore your kernel too... and you always have a fastboot option to flash your boot.img again if you want run a custom rom with stock kernel
Ahhh... thanks! Wasn't sure if the boot.img listed in the status messages from CWM was the kernel, or something else (like the bootloader, the recovery image, or something else). I'll submit a request to koosh to maybe add parenthetically to the status messages something like this:
backing up boot.img (kernel)
restoring boot.img (kernel)
I was wondering if I just flashed this new kernel on my phone but don't like the way it functions, how can I uninstall/unflash it?
Thanks
Create a backup using TWRP, then if you don't like the kernel you can just restore your backup.
Hi
I think it's time to try some roms again. Previously once I had TWRP loaded I made a Nandroid, flashed the new rom and if there was something wrong with it, I would revert to the Nandroid, but it always just boot looped.
Since I really would like to be able to revert to my pre rom flashing stock image / set up, thought I better ask official method or even if it's possible?
Thanks .[emoji3]

I've made several backups of my phone on a custom ROM but whenever I restore them in TWRP, I can't boot past the red developer screen. The only backup that seems to work is the backup of Stock. TWRP seems to indicate that the /system folder could not be found. How can I restore these backups? Bootloader is unlocked with S-ON.
Apologies for my ignorance. I'm coming from a LG G3, which was much more user friendly.
Which ROM backups have you done, and which version of TWRP did you use to do them, and which one are you currently using?

I've done backups of LeeDroid 2.2.5 at various stages of tweaking (installing different kernels, Viper4Android, Systemless apps, etc). I'm using TWRP 3.0.2-6. I'm currently using Stock 6.0.1 since it's the only one that works at the moment but I was on LeeDroid 2.2.5 prior to this (I haven't had a chance to update to 2.6.1).

Sounds as if there's a problem with the boot/kernel. If it hasn't been backed up and restored properly, it won't boot as expected. The splash with red text just indicates a custom kernel that has been installed, which would be fine in case of LeeDrOiD, as it comes with tbalden's CleanSlate. Weird.

Any ideas for how to restore or overwrite the boot/kernel, or worse case, erase all of it and start over so that the process will work correctly in the future?
A bit more info after some experimentation.
I can fully restore and boot into Stock ROM backups only. Backups of custom ROMs (such as LeeDroid) will not boot past the silver HTC logo.
I get no errors during the restore process of a custom ROM. Going back into TWRP after the restore fails to boot shows that /system could not be mounted. If I go to the Wipe menu and select System and then Repair or Change System Type, it shows that my System size is 0. Doing the same on a Stock backup tells me that the system size is 3280, which appears to be the full system.
