I edited /system/etc/mixer_paths_qcwcn.xml to make the volume louder, and I forgot to change the permissions back, so now it's stuck on a bootloop.
What are my options now to get the phone back ? I'd rather now reset, wouldn't that make me lose stuff on the built in 16gb partition ? (i.e photos)
I'm running a UK D855 16GB and I was on v10a-EUR-xx , which was bought in carphone warehouse (but on o2 with no branding)
Am I stuck having to install a kdz with the LG tool ? and if so, which one should I use for this model ? and should I go to a higher version ? I saw 10g was available, but I'm not sure whether to go straight to that or not.
Is it possible to get in and repair the permissions ??

Yes, u can do it lg g2 flash rom stock instruction. It's tha same, if u choose normal flash it will fix the permission.

I struggled to find the right kdz file , so I ended up with the LG pc tools, I typed in my IMEI and S/N and stuck the phone in download mode. It detected it, and then upgraded my firmware from 10a to 10e, so now I'm upgraded and it boots fine. Just got to apply ioroot now and then not make that stupid mistake again !

This just happened to me.. Good thing I made a backup before.. If you did also or still have a rom on your SD card follow these instructions for the future..
Power off your device and wait for 5-10 seconds until the device is fully switched off or do a battery pull.
Press and hold ‘Volume Down + Power’ buttons together and release them as soon as you see the LG logo on your phone’s screen.
Now immediately press and hold the ‘Volume Down + Power’ buttons again until you see the ‘Hard reset screen’
Go down to yes on hard reset... Press power button once, and then again to confirm hard reset. If you have a custom recovery installed, your phone won’t hard reset and will boot into recovery mode.
If I had a custom recovery I would have made a backup, trouble is I'm on a European 855 with a locked bootloader, so waiting that be unlocked before i get twrp on there. I know there is a tethered method, but I'm in 2 minds whether to go down that route.
after i press power button + vol+ button, it show "download mode is disabled by killswitch", i just put the correct pin to Mcafee but it still show the same message, please help, thank you

Have you tried to root your phone and remove McAfee completely? That was the first thing that I did on my F400S and F460S.
nothing to cheer up
i also have the same model and "it" also does not go into recovery , i am though able to get it into download, - first load your lg driver and make sure your port is 41 under device manager, once in 41 you can use the flashtool to upload but ONLY A KDZ FILE , that's as much as i got from this site. (btw there is a lollipop kdz file for the k400 floating around, you can use it to flash lollipop but it isn't rooted - i can find the link and if you're successfull at getting lollipop to root with these 2 files, i will really appreciate you help - email me)
the volume down + power just don't work
try pressing volume down + power + volume up and when logo shows up let go volume up for less than a second and let me know if you can decipher the korean page.
this korean page has 3 options but all of them lead to Reboot System., i don't read korean and no one volunteered help.
Also with the phone working i loaded CWM recovery and with it running i was able to flash a lollipop zip file for F400 but this file is not rooted and i couldn't root it so i reflashed back to an older kitkat version
if you're luckier than me, i would appreciate you letting me know how you were able to load the lollipop and root it afterward.
sincerely

Thank you for your help, i tried flashtool already but it doesn't work, the phone reboot during the updating , it show "the message" and go back to normal boot after that, i tried many times already:crying:
Need hep with my probably dead phone.
I got suddenly problem with my G4 model 818N, . Working perfectly for 3 months, on 6.0 Today because of travel had to change battery with new battery, working OK after battery change. Them suddenly during use just reboot.. Phone starts after that, show screen apps are upgrading and stuck on logo for some time. Get very hot and reboot again some cycle
I succeed to put it in download mode, LG UP see it but when i try to flash firmware, it say TOT type not correct. I just downloaded kdz file renamed it and added to LGUP. Is this correct way to add kdz? KDZ is correct for this phone.
Anyone idea how to check if phone is dead or can be recovered? I don't care about data on phone, just want to see if can bring it back to life. I can enter download mode, but can not enter reset scree? This is little strange ??
If u want to flash a kdz, first u select from LGUP the update option ,select kdz and after that u thick the refurbished option. Hope this works for you

Hello, (complete n00b here)
Several days ago I've tried to flash a 6.0 MM (from 5.1) to my LG G4 H815 phone. There was no option to do it automatically so I proceded to do it manually via flashboot.
I hard-bricked it to oblivion as in black screen, no response whatsoever.
While investigating @ the internet I've managed to understand I could get it fixed via quadcomm drivers (mode 9008).
Tried various "fixes" for H815 but was getting safari download errors. For some reason I tried a LS991 fix and it worked. When I started the phone it showed no logo but just a secure booting error 1006.
Still, could enter firmware download so I began to flash a lot of KDZ firmwares with no success.
LGUP shows my model : H81510H.
While in fastboot mode there is a note below (wasn't there the first time) with codes : 633 B46 or something like that.
While flashing anything it ALWAYS STOPS at 9% with a tot anti-rollback error. While flashing the code changes briefly where one can read smth like : LGLS991ZVA ver. 6.0
Managed to download some KDZ for that exact model, SAME ERROR. Tried to find / flash LS991ZVA with no success in finding a TOT file.
Also, managed to get ADB drivers up and it shows unauthorized in listing (LS991). Fastboot does not detect my device even in fastboot mode @ phone.
Please HELP!

Hello and thx for reply. I tried to do what u've said. It did something (I was looking for a while back). When I plug the cable back in, my windows 7 immediately installs quadcomm hs-usb driver (9008) and my phone acts as if it was dead. LGUP cannot find it in that state. I've been trying to QFIL the "proper" soft but it continues to pop different errors (using different QFIL versions). Either saharafail or some sort of download fail.
LGUP still presents an error (if I decide to "fastboot" it) @ 9% 0x2000, TOT antirollback version is smaller than device version.
How can I make sure I've got the proper KDZ without ANTI-ROLLBACK?

Thx again. Uppercut shows H81510H as LGUP did. Is it possible that it's somehow write-protected?
It confuses me, since during the firmware update on my phone, I get this small box below the picture showing wierd codes : 633A Bxx and when I'm trying to flash my phone, the code gets longer with LS991ZVA v6.0 and more other. It then stops.
Funny thing is, when I got the phone I couldn't even connect to the LG bridge to update it at all. I've managed to do it bugging the MTP protocol but THAT on the other hand prevented me from copying stuff / FLASH my phone to MM 6.0. Had to factory reset it back then and all went back to "normal" = LG couldnt detect my device but I could copy photos or stuff from it.
NOW, when my phone is bricked, LGbridge DETECTS my phone (in fastboot), downloads the newest KDZ update BUT cannot install it (same thing as in LGUP). Hence my question : is it somehow write-protected?

Have you tried to eset it by pushing power and volume own then when you see bootsplash then release power button and hen quickly push the power button again....
But in your case push power and volume down within the count or 20 then release power then push power button again and see what happens and then try the same thing on volume up......
Thanks for the reply.
I did what u've said. Despite no logo I tried to release power button for a second just after the screen's brightness goes up (I also get a small vibration @ start). Everytime I get secure booting error 1006 after a few seconds.
On the other hand when I did that with volume UP button there was no error but there was nothing aswell until I release power button in which case I got the secure booting error. All of the above tries were done with no USB connection with anything.

Can't tell atm since I gave it to professionals. I'll wait and see how it'll turn up. Thx for all the effort tho, was nice to tinker with a lil help
@Longbranch did you solve this problem ? I'm in the same state but my phone model is H810, everything else is the same as yours.
Nope, not really. I gave it back to the reseller and my money got returned luckily.
The professionals I refer to above did install a specific firmware for the ls991 type. Firmware ZVB I think. The only one appliable apparently. Anyways, as I suspected the ls991 type is for the US and therefore it didn't work in my country in EU. My sim card wouldnt work with it. Besides, without the sim card, the phone decided to freeze and die after several minutes every time I turn it on. Swapped for LG G5 and it's working flawlessly up until this day.
good for you, what i don't understand is that it's a h810 model but now identify as ls991 does that mean you can convert it just by a Qfil flash? I may try another model flash if can't find a suitable Rom for it

Yes! That's what I and neutrondev telling everyone :
do not use qfil without the knowledge about the result!
The only working firehose file available out there is for the ls991 and that means if you use it it will turn your device into a ls991 without any way to get back to your previous device model!!

@steadfasterX since I have done it already is there any way to get it working even as an LS991 ?
here is what i did till now
the reason for using Qfill is that it went dead after flashing an H810 rom .
after that when it's in download mode it doesn't allow me to flash the ls911ZV5 ls911ZV6 ls911ZV6_12 roms that i found ( it says LS991ZVA )
so i went in fastboot and flashed boot/aboot/recovery....img extracted from the ls911ZV6 rom then it accepted the rom in download mode
but it is stuck in a hard bootloop ( reboots when it is getting in recovery but still has download mode yet no fastboot as before)
any thoughts ?

Yes it's possible. You can boot a h811 H815 or any other rom you like. Even LOS!!
Great right? BUT you are bounded to the ls991 modem and so you need to be in a sprint network to use telephony. That means the phone is now useless outside the US .
And you wrote you tried ls911 ROMs? I hope you meant ls991
I work on a fully working experience on every network though. Checkout my proof of concept for unlocking the bootloader thread
I can go into details on IRC if you like.

@steadfasterX thank you for keeping up with me ! ( btw what room on IRC ?)
for now I have used Qfill again and got fastboot working again and flashed TWRP ( not sure where ! ) so when the phone is off and i plug the usb it boots to twrp ( but it doesn't in recovery )
normal boot will show "secure boot error 1002"
then i flashed twrp img to recovery partition using twrp but it didn't work in recovery ( still reboots after showing Recovery Mode loading screen )
also tried to load some roms on the device to try them but I got error "file too large for filesystem " when copying them .
atm I don't know the state I'm in and what should be next ?
btw here are the recovery log and dmesg

Np we can bring you back to life but as already said without cell service. That's the price for the firehose and unlocked feeling you have now.
Did you found and read my thread here?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/general/bl-unlock-unlock-bootloader-proof-t3648288
There you will find some more info and also the IRC details how you can find me. I'm online from Monday to Friday mainly.
It's much easier to talk in chat then here. once all the details are known I will provide a full guide.

Hi Everyone,
I tried to find solution here on xda and googled the problem but no luck. Please help me in getting my phone back to stock.
Problem:
1: Phone is actually H818P as per IMEI.
2: Phone settings shows as H818N (Happened in attempt to correct rare ghost touch issue by flashing multiple firmwares. LP/MM/N, only noticed when first KDZ started giving error of invalid kdz.)
3: Network mode selection is not correct anymore although no issue in signal reception or IMEI. If I change RAT selection to GSM or GSM/ WCDMA through hidden menu *#546368#*xxx# then it shows "Null" in front of selected mode in Settings/Mobile Network under Nougat and all modes will show un-checked under MM/LP. (Only GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto) will show properly checked when selected through hidden menu under LP/MM/N.
4: Minor yellowish closeup pictures with flash on in low light under N. No issues under LP or MM. (just info)
4: At least i could figure out the solution of ghost touch for mine H818P, it gets to almost none under V20h MM (Tested for 1 day and comes back as soon as N or LP is pushed in.)
Attempts done to correct it:
1: Tried flashing through LGUP/ LG Flash tool 2016 but both won't flash unless phone model is changed in kdz so once phone boots up then again H818N and stock tot automatically takes it as H818N and configures accordingly. If i change model in tot then phone flashes but won't boot. (Flashed V10d, V10i, V20d, V20h, V29a-815N)
2: Flashed 3 times stock LP V10d kdz (w/out editing) with Flash tool 2014 but on boot up again H818N.
Please help with any possible way of getting it back to H818P so minor issues could be resolved when it will flash/ configures as H818P. (As I shall stick to V20h MM)
Is TOT like "LGH818PAT-00-V20h-AME-XX-OCT-19-2016+0" good to flash both N and P variants as I can see inside of tot that it contains both P and N model configurations. (I never need to edit a H818P tot to flash.)
Thanks guys, and waiting your support
Anyone..?
bump
read phone info while the phone in download mode you will get the correct model
Thanks..it shows h818n now but it showed only h818 when installed v10C kdz (chinese region) LP in attempt of fixing it.
Thats what i could achieve max, never shows h818p.
Changed with G5 not using G4 anymore.
