Well I've been searching for a while trying to connect the S3 as a laptop using MHL+USB OTG, but seems it is not possible or simply hard enough to consider other options. Several options have been considered:
1- Using BT keyboard/mouse is not always suitable since most of us use 2.4Ghz USB keyboard/mouse and it does not consider connecting HDD or other stuff.
2- I found an application that allows you to use your keyboard/mouse connected to your PC to control the phone, "takecontrol", take a look here:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...NvbS5kcm9pZGNvbnRyb2wudGFrZWNvbnRyb2xsaXRlIl0.
Using this app you could also share an HDD connected to that PC solving one of the previous problem BT has.
But this configuration forces you to have your computer switched on... a bit useless if what you want is to connect the S3 as a PC instead of using an actual one.
3- After this I thought of using a wifi USB HUB, but hey! most of routers have USB ports, so why don't we use them instead of buying a new equipment? Then I realised it should work fine for sharing contents from a USB HDD but for USB wireless mouse/keyboard...
(those of you who have a BT mouse/keyboard but don't know how to connect the USB HDD to get "full" PC experience with the S3/S2/Note..., maybe it's still interesting this option)
So my question is if it is possible to connect a USB wireless mouse/keyboard plugging it to a wifi USB HUB. Maybe with an android app? what do you think guys?
I'm still thinkin about this.
Would be possible to use a wireless USB Hub, via wifi or BT?
WiFi Mouse is very good for you, please visit: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/wifi-mouse-turns-your-android-phone-into-a-mouse
Ok so here is the story so far. If I connect my galaxy s3 with the factory cable directly to USB it works fine.. however the cable is too short. so I bought an extension. Its a male to female (good quality) and I connect my factory cable to it. My computer says usb not detected most of the time with the longer cable but if I unplug it and plug it back in and then switch between the media device (mtp) and the camera (ptp) a few times, it will work. Once it connects, it works fine for transferring songs/movie files/whatever. Any clue why this does this? Its super annoying for it to not just connect the first time.
Hello, I have really odd problems with connecting devices to my sgs2. When I connect the cable my phone recognizes it and sometimes recognises also wireless mouse when I connect it. Problems starts when I want to connect pendrive or hard drive (with addictional power cable). The phone doesn't recognise it (already found that i need program to mount from market (doesn't work)) and hard drive shuts itself down after few moments.
Also when I take out cable from micro usb port my phone immidiatelly reboots sometimes it even does it when I just connect and disconnect cable without mouse etc on the second end. I am using rooted 4.0.3 XXLPW. Does anyone has similar problems or just my phone has something wrong with usb port? Looking forward for any helpful responses and sorry for my eng. Thanks.

yes man,i have had the same problem ,try to check the quality of your cable ,check wether its damaged because if there is shortcut among the wires, this might be the cause of the problem,
I tried to connect some devices via usb.
The Adaptercable is working because I tried it on a different phone andit works.
But no devices seams to be recognized. I tried
an usb stick (even works on an old glaxaxy s3)
a dvb-t device .. not working
a usb mouse .. nothing
my usb midi keyboard.. nothing.. not even the light goes on.. (on my Jiayu S3 it works with the same adapter )
any ideas?
kind regards
Thomas
otg is not support in the kernel.
and it is hard to fix it
I am using Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ (SM-N975F) with Android 10.
I am able to use the Samsung Dex on PC just fine but when i connect it to the TV through HDMI adapter, it only mirrors the screen and i get no option to turn on Samsung Dex. I have checked the HDMI connection setting too and it's set to start in Dex mode upon connection but still nothing happens.
I tried the same even on Android 9 before getting the update to Androi 10 but the issue faced was the same.
Any idea what to do? Or is there is any thing i am missing or doing wrong?
By the way i am using a USB C adapter which has 2 USB 3 ports, One USB C port and an HDMI port.
Any help would be appreciated.
I didnt know that dex also worked on tv...
it could be a fault in the adapter, it may lack the security or something that is required to pass through to HDMI. as with USB to PC it just transfers the info over a standard USB connection. but a lot of modern devices require certain security and HDMI revisions to actually work with a TV, partly to stop people putting the likes of netflix straight through a capture rig.
if you can get hold of a different make/brand of hub I would try that as it may just be that one.
Just to update that I used Samsung Dex Cable and it worked just fine with the TV. As soon as I connected through it, the option popped on phone for Dex. So yes, my Hdmi to Usbc adapter was at fault and there is always a plus side to use official accessories .
