Hello, just a question..... Is there any Oreo Roms that are suitable as a daily driver? I know Oreo, although a few months old, is fairly in its infancy... But is there yet a rom with everyday use...I'm not interested in fingerprint, or any gestures etc..
Thank you!

Since two weeks I'm personally using AospExtended v5.1 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p2/development/rom-aospextended-rom-v5-0-t3706356) as a daily driver and I don't intend to change for another although there are some bugs or features that do not work like fingerprint (I don't use it), Volte (no problem knowing that my provider doesn't allow it in Belgium for the moment), GPS, airplane mode, ...
This rom includes the last security patch of begin January.
There are a few other Oreo roms available on the xda forum : Cardinal-OSP, AIM, Cosmic-Os, AOSIP, Validus, Pixel Experience, all of them in beta version.
Except Cardinal-OSP, I haven't tested these roms yet.
Choosing one of these roms remains a matter of personal taste and I will not waste my time or spend too much time testing all of them.
I will probably flash and test Pixel Experience one of the next days.
Any way I will not come back to Nougat.

That question is about as loaded as asking an international group of people what the best chocolate chip cookie is. Like any smart person would advise you, the best one for you is the one you like the most.

Stay with Stock for now... Oreo is still new for the MZP enjoy it.
There's no stable Oreo ROM as of now, and stock Oreo is better than most of the nougat builds, so I guess we need to wait for some time for a good MZP Oreo build.

How is "stable" is defined in this context? (Serious question, not a challenge or a troll) Is a ROM just informally judged as "stable" by general consensus, or it some formal release or declaration that makes it "officially" stable?
I installed RR 6.1 (O 8.1) 8 days ago and haven't had a single glitch (literally, not a single issue). I know that's only one data point though.

Yes, most of the development teams do that (even RR).
They're just termed based on the development state of that ROM, The Official ROMs (stable) are released after fixing the known bugs or issues, where as the other builds like beta, nightlies (daily), weekly builds are initial builds which needs to be worked on to resolve the bugs or issues.
I've used AOSP based Oreo just for gcam but went back to stock after a while because of some bugs, even if you tried it for a week you might not have used all the functions right.
So at the end it all comes down to your personal flavor.
If you're okay with the build, you can use it as your daily driver.

I think it's amazing, but i don't have the best frame of reference because I can't really differentiate between the device and the ROM. I purchased the MZP just a couple weeks ago from a guy who had put O 8.0 stock on it, then I almost immediately put RR on it. So I don't have a real baseline to compare to. I can say that using BBS on a 12hr overnight idle test I get 0.1%/hr which I consider excellent.

Cool, thanks for the info. This is just anecdotal but I'll say that I've explored this ROM pretty darn thoroughly (hours and hours, literally), partially because it is this first new ROM I've had since a custom L 5.0 (GoldenEye) that I've been running on my GS4 for the last 4 years, and partially because I'm neurotic and want to explore and tweak everything, it's a sickness lol.. I won't claim to have run it through the full battery of SW dev QA testing, but I have used it VERY extensively, fwiw.
I use Alberto97's AOSP 8.1 as a daily. A close second for me would be AmulyaX's 7.1.2. Both rock solid for me.
Seriously. ROMs used to be available on the Nexus withint 3-4 days. Now we got treble(have ported the image from a Pixel as well) and yet there are NO custom Android 9 ROMs. It's hit AOSP for 5 days already.
it is best to wait for official Pie from OnePlus and official kernel source for Pie
the hard work will be on them this way
developers will work hard to get a stable Pie port then all this work will go away when official Pie is available as it will be a btter base

Maybe not many devs for Oneplus devices compared to nexus i guess. Aosp builds hit nexus devices within few hours those days. Suprised to see completely working Pie build already for Xiaomi note 4 though.
I'm just surprised the OnePlus 3/3T got Android 9 before we did (considering it's an older phone and all)

What camera app do you use? I tried the special apk with the settings fix flashed, still it's really bad. Images are always out of focus and lack detail. I tried using the fixed camera libraries and use the arnova's gcam app but without any luck. I am interested in what others may use.

Well, its not built from AOSP I guess. Its just a system image from different pie device ported. So cannot be optimised and have bugs.

I refuse to use mokee to get proper treble support. For two reasons. One, OnePlus needs to implement it properly so that drivers are stable and etc. Two, Mokee has a terrible kernel which results in terrible SoT.
I must admit that I am generally a bit disappointed in the ROM situation with the 5t.
I always thought that Oneplus phones were among the most hacked ones out there and I expected A LOT more than what there is...

There are custom kernels to flash. With custom kernel it's actually pretty efficient. Getting same SOT and idle time as I wad getting in 8. 1 custom roms.
Our prayers have been answered. And the best part is that the rom is not featureshitbuggybloated, it is pure AOSP!

True! But atm the new gesture navigation and NFC isn't working yet and those 2 things are mandatory for me before I start flashing
2 short questions:
1. Is treble needed for the AOSP Rom?
2. Can I root my 5t without loosing my data and keeping my bootloader?

Hey guys
I previously owned a Redmi Note 3 and flashed so many roms on that phone.
Now i just got a Redmi Note 5 Pro. Unlocked it. But currently I am very busy with assignments and don't have a lot of time.
So i can't keep flashing rom every few days.
Please recommend me a good Oreo rom. It should ideally not lag and have no random reboots. Basically I just want to flash and forget for a few months until Pie roms get very stable.
Thanks to all for their help.

Bro listen! Lineage os is most widely used custom rom in the world. Your device has official lineage os 15.1. So you should flash it & see if you're happy with it. Only customizations not present in los. After that you can try any other rom you want.

"Bro listen" - This does not sound like suggestion, rather like a command. What is good for you does not really mean that it will be for someone else. For example, on devices I have used, RN5 included, pure AOSP roms performed better than Cyanogenmod/LineageOS ones. They have been smoother and better in battery life.
Just because something is official it doesn't translate to a better than everything else, MIUI is an official rom from Xiaomi yet some releases were a bug fest.
I've tried LOS/RR and than jumped to AOSiP Oreo, that's close to pure AOSP but with additional useful features and it has been more stable, smoother and more battery friendly than LOS/RR and overall performance was consistent. In combination with Insigniux/Derp kernel it's great.
I've seen reports of MSM as great one as well, so that can be considered as well.
Anyway you'll have to try different rom and kernel combinations to see what works for you.

Exactly.
Although I can understand why some newer members are just dazzled by the "official" tag especially in context of LOS.
I especially dislike LOS because of lack of so many useful features. Why should I need to use xposed and 10 modules to get those features when I have root and recovery and I can simply flash a feature rich aosp rom.

Ok. I apologise if i gave someone wrong suggestion. But i was telling from my experience as for me los official always works great with no single bug till now. What i've seen is people sometimes complain a lot about problems in other new roms. So i was saying in that way. Thanks for your suggestion. I'll flash aosip with derp kernel.
One question tho. I want an oreo rom with battery life similar to miui 9.6. can you suggest me that rom? Miui 9.6 is giving me 12 hrs & 13 minutes of screen on time. Thanks in advance.

No need to apologise to me, since your post wasn't directed to me. You didn't suggest anything wrong, but the way you suggested it was a bit wrong. Anyway, AOSiP is a clean rom with good features and a default Derp kernel is great for battery life, I have had up to 14h of SOT (that depends on usage of course) but as far as I remember it was never below 10h.

Hello guys im litle nostalgic and i do not wana change my HTC 10 im HTC user from the very begining with HD diamond HD HD2 and so on now im with HTC 10 from long time i dont upgrade to any new HTC device because of the Unibody change i hate this glass stuffs and right now my HTC 10 is still good phone i dont need a brand new because none of the latest flagships has the same visual appealing to me of course the new models everytime will have better and better specs it is normal but nobody of them have the design the feel in hand of the HTC 10
my simple question is.
As i wana use it for a daily driver what is the recomended OREO rom to use?
Im with US unlocked S off version with Nougat viper 5.1.1 fine the phone works great but with the time the new softwares and apps that i want doesnt work as i wish for example for a daily driver i need a good camera like Gcam but the problem is that the latest and most improved Gcam builds are working under Oreo and Above and im starting to miss this.
of course there are Gcam ports runing on Nougat but they are so outdated and laggy.
Im thinking of the following to flash the Oreo latest Firmware and latest US Unlocked OREO ROM and after this im stopt... since no further development and many developers stop working on that device i dont have idea what OREO ROM is best for daily driver stable and solid i dont mind to be Sense or not anyway im using NOVA launcer all the time..
just daily stable OREO ROM in order to be able to try some of the latest Oreo Gcam ports.
WHat do you recomend.?
Thanks in advance
I think i am right that the most updated sense rom is Leedroid sense rom. All the sense oreo roms are stable but i feel that Leedroid has just that little bit more to offer.
I use leedroid as daily driver and have no issues
Can't give feedback about Aosp or LOS as i never used them.
Using a used 10 i picked up on swappa from one of our members here. The battery life is around 85% but I have been using this thing as my daily driver since July. I'm on sprint so I went the bad boys 8.0 route and then jumped to LOS as soon as fagyi had it uploaded. Now I am running AOiSP 9.0 without any problems since the day after it was released. Battery life is amazing with this thing as long as you keep the kernel under thermal governor. It was overheating while streaming audio via bluetooth for some strange reason before. I am also using one of the Gcam ports with night vision and such and it works somewhat sometimes as its buggy and crashes. The pics it takes in low light are awesome though at night when it does work. For my audio mod I use Viper Xhifi loaded via magisk. I am super happy with this device I picked up for a fraction of the original price not too long ago, put a screen protector and case on it for $15 and even tossed jcase the loot for the sunshine. If you go the aosip route, it includes the LOS camera and gapps built into the system so you only have to flash one file after you wipe. Stock camera works great for pics on the regular. Also as an FYI, Fagyi still working active dev on this device and with last LOS update not too long ago. Pie is good and he may be working on whatever comes next in his spare time.
Still using mine. Can't seem to move away from it
Hell yea man. HTC10 is a great phone... Best phone made in 2016 i'd say. I'm running Android 9.0 via LineageOS w/ GApps. Few minor tweaks like greenify and adaway and kernel aiuditor and busybox and titaniun backup, which all you need root for. I flashed the most forked Android 9.0 of LineageOS for PME, running US unlocked firmware, S-OFF. Phone runs like a champ.
So, there's plenty of ROM options available to us currently. I've been hesitating massively on trying any of them due to being a bit burned by previous experiences with some not so great ROMs on other phones I've had previously. So tell me, in your opinion, what's the best ROM available right now? I'm looking for things that have the good battery life, a mostly lag-free experience, the less bugs the better, etc. The best overall ROM in general, basically. If you're using a custom kernal too instead of stock or the one that comes with the ROM, please mention it in a reply along with what you voted for.
Thanks!
I currently use POSP v3.1+8. This ROM is great if you want a proper taste of Android Q. I am using the stock kernel that comes with the ROM and opengapps pico package. I've never had any problems so far, but that's mainly because I don't use social media apps like Instagram. The software has its bugs and the battery life isn't great yet, but the Dev is working diligently to squish the bugs and that's what makes it for me. Best battery life and stability you can have is on Stock right now, especially if you debloat the ROM using shell, battery life is superb. I just can't stand Pie's ugly interface. MIUI ROM is sooo amazing, except for some little performance issues, especially on recents screen. MIUI ROM effectively transforms your Mi A2 Lite into a Redmi 6 Pro. But I've had a lot of privacy concerns over it. ROM's not open-source and Google + Xiaomi apps come preinstalled. If you respect your privacy MIUI is not the ROM for you. Pixel Experience on the other hand was a total mess. A lot of bugs + bad battery life. I haven't tried the other ROMs mentioned, but Stock Oreo is the way, if you want amazing stability, proper Gcam + incredible battery life. I literally could not drain the battery on Oreo. If you like the UI of them, stock ROMs are the way to go for stability. I'm using POSP because I just want the new features that Xiaomi should've provided us a loooong time ago.

I'm currently using this rom, in my opinion the best rom, even if without updates maybe I'll switch back to POSP later, but the battery consumption (idle) has to get even better.

Theres no 100% stable rom. I mean atm all of them have some minor bugs and gcam often freeze and reboot the phone. At least this was my experience with roms and gcam... Every time I try roms I just get fed up with (mostly gcam being slow and buggy) so I'm going back to stock after a couple of weeks.
Anyways try posp with the recommended kernel. Also you can find gcam at the themes forum here on xda.

Don't expect a stable build of 10 from Xiaomi soon. We had a Gcam configured for A2 Lite by hass31 but it doesn't work properly on stock Pie and it will NOT work on 10. Other than that I'm currently using the gcam in the apps and themes forum with the provided xml. It works wonders but video doesn't work. I've noticed that video recording on stock vs gcam doesn't make much of a difference.
Try HybridOS but high battery drain is still issue
