Now that you have your G'Nex, (and isn't it the ish?!!) Is there any functionality of it, or ICS, that was a bit of a let down?
I've had mine a little over a week and I'd have to say, that for me it's the camera. Panorama is VERY cool, and impresses everyone, and zero shutter lag is great. But I notice that the quality of basic snapshots is lacking. Colors look unnatural, strange tinting, etc. It may all be in the settings, which I have just now started tweaking. Hopefully I can come up with the right combo, because what's the point of all of the rest, if the pictures come out bad?
Other than that's it's been a major lovefest with the new "baby", complete with frequent battery changes, and late night chargings.

IMO nothing let me down in regards to the specs and quality of this phone/ICS. I came from the SGS so everything with the GNex was a big improvement for me.
Some will probably say that the battery is a letdown, but given the sheer size and resolution of the screen i'd say it is OK.
/PS: I have the GSM version.
I was letdown there wasn't a hidden micro sd slot. That's it.
Sent from my Nexus in Texas.
I would also say the camera, but I will also say the speaker on this phone is a piece of crap!! I can't believe they shipped the phone with such a low ass speaker! Unbelievable!!! But I still like the damn phone
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
Letdown:
1. Camera produced out-of-focus quite a lot
2. Speaker is too low
That's all ...
Battery is great, no problem with that (more than 2 days standby with more than 4 hours screen on time).
Gripes
The screen-capture function must have been designed by a complete sadist. For me it works. 1 out of 10 times....
No Scandinavial dictionary. Never thought I'd miss spell-checking, but I do! With a vengance.
Other than that I''m seriously satisfied.

This is actually a bug in the Google ROM and is fixed in 4.0.3
None. The speaker is a bit of a let down but that wasn't a highly-touted feature.
I dislike the fact that the camera requires a tap to focus and another to take a picture. Why can't I just tap the shutter button and it focuses for me?

Whine, whine, whine.
I must be a sadist, because the screencap feature works for me, EVERY TIME.
The only thing I find to be a letdown is the lack of official Google Wallet with the Verizon version. I don't trust putting a hacked app on my phone that pays with credit cards. Other than that this phone rocks!!
In the original reveal for the GNex, the presenters had mentioned a 'manual white balance.' I got really excited for this, thinking we'd be able to set a custom WB or at the very least manually set the color temperature (in K) to whatever we wanted. Turns out they just meant it was the same as the previous iterations of Android, and that we were limited to Daylight/Tungsten/Fluorescent/etc.
A true manual white balance would alleviate a ton of issues that people complain about in regards to color reproduction. Oh well -- maybe one of these days.
The speaker, like many claim, sucks quite some donkey balls.
The option, or rather not to have the option, to slot a micro-SD card, but we knew that when we bought it . Still 16g should be enough for your phone (imo).
A feature of ICS I never use though is faceunlock... highly featured and beloved, but I don't use it.
It's a nice add-on though but I like to have no lock at all, had my company mail on my older SGS1 and always had to unlock through letter/digit combo.. meh so just slide away for me
Overall, this is the best phone for me, still gonna get the SGSIII aswell to play with.
Or maybe 'encourage' my girlfriend to get it when her contract has to be renewed so I can claim it
the overall smoothness was a huge let-down for me, initially, as most of my previous droids were smoother and faster in comparison. 4.0.3 took care of that once and for all though. Everything's close to perfect now.
This is pretty much the best smartphone on the market right now.
Sometimes I'm amazed by the reading comprehension (or lack thereof). He asked what advertised features of the phone ended up being a let down.
-Couple of things here...nobody ever said the phone would have a SD slot.
-Yes they advertised NFC but don't recall them claiming Wallet would be installed, the highly touted NFC stuff was Android Beam.
-The speaker also was not any kind of advertised feature...we all know its a gamble on any phone.
Anyways..while the face unlock feature works its hardly secure as has been demonstrated, I'd complain a little about the camera but I don't believe phones should be expected to take good pictures that's what DSLRs are for.

couple of things here. if the picture i want to take is that important that i need to worry about wb i will use my 5d and shoot in raw. also a lot of people seem to be having issues just taking a picture with the gn if you think these same people are going to be able to figure out setting a manual wb thats a hella stretch.
Really I think it's a matter of the nexus not living up to the hype. For months people have been hyping up this phone. My last phone was a Evo 3d, going to the nexus was really a blah kinda upgrade. ICS is really nice and having it be fully functioning is a very good selling point, but on the 3D they pretty much had everything except the camera and wimax. I would say it ran almost as smooth as my nexus. Don't get me wrong the nexus is a great phone and would recommend it to others. It's just not a huge upgrade from a modern dual core phone.
Also the speaker is kickass compared to the Evo 3d's! And this phone should of been named the Nexus Prime!

Really??? With on/off button and then vol-down? 45% of the time I get the Phone Options menu, 45% the phone goes to silent. I'm not being facetious, I REALLY want this to work. As Big Samm says; on the iPhone it's dead easy and works 100%. On MY Nexus; hardly ever.....
Any ideas what can be wrong on our phones?
Any important reasons, as known issues, common problems or anything to know in order to avoid purchasing for this device?
I've read about battery issues related with being battery li-po type.
Anything that I should know about?
It looks quite fragile and breakable too, but thats another problem, lol.

Problems? You are a glass-half-empty guy aren't you? Lol
I think this is the best phone i could get in this price range, specs wise. At least in my country.
Battery is good so far. Certainly better than Xperia SP, even though it has less capacity. Amazing screen, speaker is clear, good build quality. Camera is a bit meh though. Overall it's a really good phone. The only minus is it doesn't support external storage.
U r not going to have any problems with the battery. The is a excellent phone. The camera with low lighting has some quality issues, and the biggest problem is the lack of updates. We r stuck on android 4.1, the hardware is capable but the software is old, for example u can't use Bluetooth LE devices. ..
Battery will hold about 2 days, depending on your useage
Camera is best when used with another software
Audio quality is bad
The rest is pretty good, if you forget the lack of update from LG.
IMHO, I would go for a Nexus 4, same specs, fraction of the price, better support.
I droped it for 3 times and its ok!
But I bought full insurance

Well, not really. Just a realistic guy who cares about how industry and economy have led us to buy stuff that last 10 times less than things lasted before. I just want those 10 times to be reduced somehow so I study quite a lot what the perfect purchase would be among my interests.
The other phone that I was considering was actually the Xperia SP. Battery on the sp with stock rom performs perfect. We have this phone at home and I saw how it lasted 2 days using airplane mode at nights together with a moderate use along the day.
On the other hand, hardware is supposed to be worse, and actually less energy consumer -2 cores against 4. So I doubt about Xperia sp performing worse than optimus g in that field.

I think he means using third party software to take the photos. But it my experiencie it doesn't help too much since all the software use the same "limit/native values" or whatever u call them (aperture and shutter speed settings and so on) when taking a photo. So that means that, unless the "stock camera software" makes and awful work when choosing what paremeters to use, you won't notice big differences between obtained results.

OEM means "stock", like the one in the stock rom provided by LG.
The "LG Camera" is another software, found in the Play Store:

I don't know how come they called it "LGCamera", beats me! But it's not the camera software from LG!

Well I don't see where you wanna get. Actually I dont know which one do u like the most. I just see a more natural color but a much more noisy shot than with the second one.
Where I want to go is that you can get those 2 results with both app cameras, playing around with manual settings. The problem is that 90% of people don't use them and just press the butom and take the photo.
So what makes the difference when choosing one app instead the other is actually depending only on how the automatic mode works..
In part, I know I can get a better quality on the OEM software using custom ISO settings, but the image will get blurry easely, which is not realy an option unless you take "still subjects".
The grainy feel on the first one is realy beyond what I could consider an "average" quality.

Hello guys!
I'm thinking about buying the LG optimos G, but some people tell me very bad things about the LG brand. Well, i want to know if the phone it's good, in questions of performace, relation in price and quality and in durabillity.
It depends for how much you can get it?
In general it's a good phone. For me the only downside is camera, which pretty ****ty.
I think LG makes great devices, but their feedback sucks. It seems to be changed since G2, but OG seems forgotten. OG is great device, fast, capable, but camera is very bad. Other aspects are almost perfect, HD for 4.7 screen is perfect, image quality is gorgeous. I would say it's definitely worth money, especially in my country where i can buy it for 200-250$.
Well, I picked a refurbished one for 200$ - great value for the money.
Now it's running KitKat (PA), was surprisingly easy to install.

I saw a video and the camera seems very capable for my needs. Thank you for the feedback... I was scared because it's a low price compared to the specs.
Its low price is due to its age. The device is from late 2012 which easily beats some brands phones from late 2013 and even 2014. By the way, it's a flagship phone and is not forgotten. Kitkat is on the way for it. check my thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2652276&page=8

I've owned quite a few smartphones, but have never been as pleased with any as with the OG. What I wish it did have though is FM Radio and an IR blaster, but in terms of performance, this is a beast and rightly so because it was the most powerful smartphone released in 2012.
To be honest, there is few things that really irritate me.
- one of the worst cameras I've ever seen, which should be at least average since it was LG's flagship smartphone. In addition to that lens gets scratches really easily which causes photos to be even worse.
- no 5V output through usb (which means no otg without external power)
- really bad sound recording with microphone (it's ok with normal voice, but anything louder makes distortion).
And because of those, I regret buying this device. It's true, it has nice SoC for it's price, but for me it's too much, dual core would be just enough to handle android without any problem. As for durability, it's rather more vulnerable to drops than other phones because it's got glass in the back. Mine phone doesn't look like new, although I keep it in case all the time.
The best thing about this phone? Definitely screen. Is it worth buying? In my opinion - no, I'd rather have nice camera and/or microphone than powerful SoC, but it really depends what you expect from your phone.

It's related to your network.
I think it's wonderful despite its downsides
Hi there,
I just got this phone after some research. I was considering Sony Xperia Z, Galaxy S3 and this one. All of them within the same price range due to they are all now kind of obsolete, and despite its not-so-good camera I got the Optimus G. To be honest with you, I was going to buy a Moto G in the first place, but although I know some people who are quite happy with that, I think it's quite low range still.
To me, camera is not the main thing of a phone. Of course, I can't always take my DSLR with me, so at some point, having a phone with a decent camera is important. But I am going to use the phone mainly for Internet, apps, and so on... and I appreciate a good design as well, so having an S3 just because its camera is better?... no thanks. I've used an S3 for a little while (a couple of weeks or so) and I didn't see it as a huge step forward (but that's my impression). Lots of people have an S3, and it's not that I want to stand out, but I want to buy a phone that I like.
The camera is definitely its worst feature, but it's not that bad. It can take better pictures than previous generations, the problem is (in my view) that it's not as good as other high end devices. And technically speaking, the dreadful megapixel war, it happens on digital cameras as well. When you put a lot of pixels in a tiny sensor it sometimes creates more problems than benefit as each individual pixel may create electrical noise that will be translated into more "grain". And regarding videos, to me the most annoying thing is the micro-stuttering that sometimes happens. Maybe the bandwith needed for processing is too much for the encoder...
Anyway, so far I'm quite happy!
(BTW, there's a mod that apparently improves video/stills quality, although I couldn't install it properly on mine)
Regards
Congrats Dadivx! I also had the same choices as you did + nexus 4 + G2 16g! I chose G and I'm quite happy with it ^_^. I can't find anyone not pleased with it. Catching 4.4.2 wikk add to the pleasure for sure.

Well I buy this phone just a month ago, true the camera not so good for 13 mp. But there's camera option to choose HDR, it helps you get better picture. For me camera not most important, because I use my phone mostly for internet, Movies and games and this OG never upset me:good:
The screen also very nice for watching movie even hd video in youtube look very crisp. That my opnion about this phone, now I should go before you call me salesman:laugh:
camera...
but...what version do you have?
I have E975 (european version) with 13 mpx camera... and photo have a really good quality... way way better if compared with phone like htc one m7, glaxy s3, galaxy note 2, xperia Z, nexus 4, nexus 5, iphone (version < 5), moto x and all the other phone before 1/2 2013......
naturally last sony, nokia with 500mpx camera, s5, iphone 5 or other newest (and much expensive) phone have better camera.... but really don't think that without magnifying glass you can appreciate them....

I know it won't have quality like normal camera, but at least in daylight it should capture some details, but it doesn't (not to mention when contrast is too big it looks awful). Photos might look good on 4,7" but not on something bigger or when you zoom in a little.
Phones you listed take the same or better pictures. Before posting stuff like this, check it earlier.

it is for this that I asked for your phone version....
Phones that i listed are all phones that i tryed (both with better or worst camera quality) so please take it easy....

well I do agree with nobooya, the camera is the downside. even when I change the camera xml file.
If you are using this phone for everything except using the camera, this phone is really good.
but if you do taking picture most of the time, you probably can get G2,
at the end, of course if you can get this less than $200, I think it worth the money
I bought the Galaxy SIII. Thanks for answering

Hi friends.
I currently own a Nexus 4 and I have loved this device for a REALLY long time. However, now I think its time to upgrade. My upgrade is due to the following 4 reasons ONLY.
1) Screen Size. I want a bigger screen size than my N4
2) Available Memory. 16 GB. Every now and then its full. Cant expand. I take lotsa pictures and videos.
3) Camera. MAJOR REASON. Oh I hate my phone whenever I open the camera app. The camera itself is just plain pathetic. It just cant focus AT ALL. The pictures are 95% of the times blur. No my hands are not shaky. But this phone requires your hands to be trained on a snipper perhaps. And the pics are always dull, without life.
4) Battery. Need to charge it quite a lot. Although I am not a heavy user at all. But KitKat has ruined the phone. Moreover, I do NOT play games at all and never use data. If it had a removable battery, I would have easily charged the extra battery and use it on the go.
Earlier I was thinking abt LG G Pro but now I am thinking of Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo. So picking SGN3Neo for the following reasons:
1) First and foremost, Price. It has dramatically slashed. It now costs $380, unlocked.
2) Camera. I dont know but have read in the reviews that it's not on par with S4, however it miles better than N4. I mostly CROP images and stuff, so it is good for cropping? How's video/pics in night? Blur? or Clear?
3) Battery. Again, tech site and customers reviews say it is awesome. And ya, its removable. Lets say if it fails in a couple of year, i can easily buy one and replace it.
4) It's got a micro SD card slot upto 64 Gig. So memory shouldn't be a problem.
5) I think 720p should be fine, considering it has AMOLED display.
6) OTG, for even more space.
Prices of other phones in my country.
LG G2: $440
LG G Pro: $280
Galaxy S4: $450
OnePlus One: *ock Teaser (not interested)
As you can see, almost all these phones are priced quite above Neo 3, so I am toooo inclined towards the Neo as it has decent specs. Moreover, I don't much care about Android updates. But still would want to know, have you guys gotten KITKAT? As MANYY users are reporting firmware issues and other day-to-day issues with the phone. Like: phones shows full signals, regardless sim is inserted or not. Or, screen flickering issues. etc
I would request you guys to let me know how the camera is. The camera is very important for me, so please tel me your experiences. And is there any other flaw you guys found with the Neo 3 that you suggest me not opting for it?
And ya does ti lag badly? Say like S3? (The only reason I have hated samsung phones is, LAG. Please tell me does it lag after a while?
, once the phone is filled with lotsa apps and media?
TL;DR... Want to upgrade from N4 to SGN3 Neo. Please suggest.
1. Got mine for around $360 unlocked, great value.
2. The camera is great. Video is superb. Low-light is excellent too. Having a little difficulty focusing on a macro scale though, well it's same for most devices too. The front camera is good as well, even for a 2MP.
3. Battery. 74HR Endurance Rating on GSMArena. Excellent!
4. Yep!
5. 720P S-Amoled. What looks bad on paper, actually looks great, in my opinion. I don't notice much difference having used a N3 before. Lower res = better battery life. S-Amoled means excellent viewing angles, deep blacks and good saturation!
6. OTG. Expansion much?
go for it. You have your concerns covered.

Thank you bro.
By the way, Samsung has just launched Neo 3 with Snapdragon 800 CPU and a subsequent GPU. Currently available in Korea only. I am sure it will make it to other countries too. Do you think I should wait a little longer and grab that one? It's available in Korea since Mar 3rd, however, I couldn't find even its model number on internet, so that I may ask the store here in my city to get one. Plus, its not even mentioned on eBay or Amazon :s

They will. I mean all these phones, regarldless of their region of release, make it to almost everywhere. But I was wondering, is QS 800 THAT good than the Exynos Hexacore that I should wait?
If there is a difference of lets say, 20% even, I am pretty much OK with it.

The Hexa Neo is a workhorse. The Snapdragon might/might not reach you. If it does, just pray it's bands would be supported. Also, the firmware might be least updated, and compatibility issues with the roms/tweaks/root that might be available.
It's your call though. :fingers-crossed:

I own a N3Neo and came from a Nexus 4. Pretty much everything you mentioned is a pro for the N3N3o against the Nexus 4. I love having access to a SD card again since I can load it up with music (I don't use the cloud since I listen to music on my commute to work and there are dead spots for cell service for me). Regarding the display, 720p o a 5.5 is perfectly fine.

I own the Hong Kong version and I haven't had many problems with the phone. The stock 4.3 firmware is excellent. The only major issue I have is sometimes the radio doesn't pick up a signal when I go from a dead zone to a non-dead zone - turning on airplane mode and then off fixes it. Not a major annoyance.

Camera seems pretty decent better than the N4. This is my first samsung phone so sometimes I notice when I take a picture, move the phone when it's "processing" the image, the saved image is not what I took, but during mid-motion. Odd.

Almost no issues with lag and I've been using the phone since mid-April of this year. The hexacore Exynos+Mali T624 seems to keep the phone moving at a good clip. I have read some people have had issue with lag, but my HK region version has been great.

Try it out! I have to say it's one of the best sub-$400 phones on the market right now - great price/performance ratio and you get all the Note 3 goodies in a cheaper package.

Oh I can't tell you how much I am loving this BIG screen. It's like I just bought myself an aeroplane haha. And that S-pen! Gosh it's a KILLER. No doubt the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo is an amazing amazinggg experience. Moreover, I don't understand the hate people have against TouchWiz. Coming from a Nexus, I know how it feels. You go crazy and jump around, when you get an android update and in real life usage, what you get IS, a new interface of the dialer, which apparently is a knock of of Windows UI. Nexus, always left me with desires... the desires of MOST simplest things which Google doesn't care much about.
BDW I am still getting those blurry images even after disabling the Image Stabilization. One of the biggest problems with Nexus Camera (apart from insanely pathetic cam quality) was, I had to keep my hands ROCK and STEADY to take a clear pic... else pictures used to come out blurry. I am seeing this somewhat in this phone too. Samsung has the best cameras in cell phones since ages. Wasn't expecting this. What's your firmware? Let me compare with mine.

I don't really have a problem with TW really in normal usage - I keep things simple on my phone. Three home screens, a few widgets and the quick toggles when you drop down the notification shade has everything I need quick access too. The button that brings you to more toggles I rarely use. I feel like keeping it simple helps when "migrating" from stock Android to Touchwiz - just don't bother with all the extra doohickies Samsung bundles. My only gripe is the unnecessary complexity of Settings, but thankfully there is a search bar to quickly search for setting that's buried somewhere.
On the Neo, TW barely lags if any which is really odd since playing around with the US version of the Note 3, GS4 and GS5 I noticed lag in touchwiz on demo models in stores (maybe cuz they're on for so long and people play around with them?). But, even so, on my Neo, a whole day of using it, no lag.

The "blurriness" I was talking about was when smart stabilization is on and I quickly move the phone while the phone is processing the image the resulting picture is not what I took, but mid-motion. I just tried out taking some photos with smart stabilization on and off and the photos are noticeably blurry with the setting off. I'd say keep the stabilization on, take a picture with somewhat steady hands and then wait for the phone to finish processing the image to get best results.
Regarding firmware I am on N7505ZHUAND2 which is the latest firmware for the Hong Kong version - that's the region phone I was shipped.

You are asking me to upload a "focused" pic taken from an 'auto-focus' camera? What will that prove to you? :s
Hello!
I am buying the Note 10.1 2014 for $165 from a local person.
I have seen reviews commenting about some lag issues. Is that gone with the latest ROMs? Anything else I should know or check before I buy?
I am upgrading from a Lenovo S8-50 mainly because my phone is a Xperia Z Ultra with a 6.44" screen son an 8" tablet is not quite the jump as a 10".
Plus, I do photography so it will be nice to have such screen to show images to clients and maybe it can even do some light editing on the spot if needed. Gaming not really a consideration.
As long as the screen has the quality I have read about, NFC works and it can do some light editing, it would work great for me.
Please let me know what you think after owning one for a while.
It's not fast by any means (old hardware) but at least the later OTAs are not laggy, at least not by my definition. Latest OTAs are also slower -however- due to lollipop being heavier. So if you want fast experience with many features you can use the Kitkat releases and then debloat (kills the lag). If you want the most features then use the latest OTAs (no lag but slower). And if you both want no lag and speed use CM12.1 roms (non Samsung) but they are not as feature packed (if you don't care about tablet exclusive features).
So I think software wise we're fine. We could be better, but we're fine. I think your problem is elsewhere. The screen is not that good, despite the glowing reviews it doesn't hold a candle to latest iPads or Samsung's very own Tab S series. So unless you care about the pen support I would warn you away from this tablet. Mostly because of the screen, IMO it's by far it's ... weakest spec with all else being equal.
my idea is that your use case is to show photos. The screen's render of dark hues is one of the worst I've seen to any product of that price. I almost felt duped when no reviews were mentioning it. There is some type of backlight illumination that ruins the dark scenes and since a lot of photography happens to darker areas, you reeeeally don't want to show your photos in this tablet's panel...
My P605(LTE with Snapdragon 800) never had any unnatural lags. However, there is also no decent custom rom...
P60x is a great tablet. Buy it!
There are some custom roms out there, Im using Davids rom V3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...lopment/rom-david-rom-2-0-10-01-2016-t3290152
