Work together on official Twrp for Moto Z2 Play - Moto Z2 Play Questions & Answers

There are 3 different Twrp versions available for the Moto Z2 Play.
@welfth https://forum.xda-developers.com/z2-play/development/alternate-twrp-v3-1-1-0-albus-moto-z2-t3668076
 @Junior Passos https://forum.xda-developers.com/z2-play/development/twrp-3-2-0-0-moto-z2-play-albus-t3715660
 @rahulsnair https://forum.xda-developers.com/z2-play/development/twrp-moto-z2-play-t3729531
Why do not you work together for a official version for our device ?
@rahulsnair, @vache , @Junior Passos @welfth

It's simple.
The Santhosh version was the first version for Moto Z2 Play and has some bugs, he abandoned the project because no longer has the device anymore.
The twelfth version is old and it isn't having much support, besides there are some bugs a long time ago.
The rahulsnair version is beta and it's x64 architecture to install LineageOS x64 that it's developing.
As there is no official version yet, I decided to create a version that had all the bugs fixed and totally functional.
And I'm also giving a bigger support by keeping it always up to date.

Also, please remember, if you have the Verizon version xt1710.02, the bootloader is not unlocked (3gb ram) you will not be able to flash twrp, so no root also, if that hasn't been overstated on this forum

Alternate ROM and system updates

Hi,
I'm really considering buying a P2 to replace my good old 1st gen moto g. At 300 € here in France, it seems like a really good value.
The only things that could hold me back now are system updates and alternate ROM support. I've read on Reddit that as the phone is only available in some parts of Asia and Europe, the developers community could not be that big. So two small questions :
I've read that the nougat update has just been made available. Is there a Lenovo commitment for Android O, too ? Are there regular security updates since the phone is out ?
Speaking of alternate ROM, if I understand correctly there's currently a LineageOS 14.1 basis that works well beside fingerprint reader and notification LED ? Do you know if there is a chance that the P2 could become an officially supported device for lineageOS ?
Thanks for your answer and all your contributions.
They barely released Nougat 7.0 and you're asking for Oreo? Even flagships like S8 will eventually get Android 8 in Q1 2018 given that Google will release the new OS version in Q3 2017. No regular security updates, till Nougat the phone was on MM with Oct 2016 security patch. Hell you can buy other phone till you're waiting for O. IMO Lenovo won't update P2 to Oreo, as at that time the new P3 should be already out and they'll focus on it and forget about the P2. No word for adding official support for Lineage OS, but that doesn't matter as the unofficial builds are working just fine.
Lenovo giving android O ?? only in dreams
but we have Good developers, and if you are looking official - then AICP is there, Lineage we dont have any info on it as our bro said in above post
if you have managed to use MotoG this many years you would like P2 very much and use longer, Only satisfactory thing in this P2 is BATTERY , other than that SAMSUNGS are better ;(
hate to praise samsungs in this forum but they are better if you have good money ..

What's the point of rooting this phone other than using lucky patcher o just can't see it.
What are your essential root apps.

First and most important possibility of Ad blocking - which saves your: time bandwidth and money.
There are some other apps which work only with root but this is beyond this discussion.

I need root for many things. On MM for Xposed, Titanium Backup, Kernel Auditor, DualBoot Patcher, Adblock and more. On Nougat the same arguments without Xposed.

[LineageOS] Unofficial builds for h815

The latest build for the h815 is 2017-11-07. We don't get new builds because of this bug.
Since this bug doesn't matter to me, I made a new build myself.
If you also want to use the latest lineage with newer security updates, BUT (STILL) WITH THIS BUG, you are free to use my build(s).
Downloads
I will upload new builds when I have time until the bug got fixed and we have new official builds.

There are no new official LineageOS builds for the LG G4 since 2017-11-07, because of a bug.
But now we lack on security and general lineage updates.
That's why I decided to make my own builds for my device, h815 ONLY!
I already postet it in the /lineage/ forum, but I think it would be better to also have a post here in the device forum.
If you want to read more or download, please go here:

Do you know that I build unofficial? https://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/development/rom-lineage-os-14-1-lg-g4-t3704019
But we are now focused on Oreo. AOSCP is ready, I should have LOS 15 done in January. Do want to help us? We can add you to our telegram group.
Hi Bleuzen, you know about this: https://host.llamasweet.tech/genesixx/LineageOS/h815/
The 20180319 works very good for me and has minimum battery consumtion.
I like it and leave atm oreo.
I do not really understand why, because of a bug, the ROM support has completely stopped.
this bug can not be fixed later? can not the encrypt functionality be disabled?

[Question] Stable Oreo Rom for Moto Z Play

Hello Guys.
I know there are a few Oreo based ROMs out there for our device MOTO Z PLAY.
I cannot install all these due to time and data usage restrictions.
If anyone could tell me what could be best option in terms of stability and camera performance, that would be highly appreciated!
Wait for stable Oreo stock. Patience is a virtue.
Oreo official should be coming very soon. I can say i have tried every single oreo custom rom on my phone and eventually i went back to stock N because there was one thing or another which wasnt quite right. E.g with xperience 12 the rom works very well but i could not save photos to sd card and i really need to do this so i had to go back.
I think this is good.
Hello anilkumar121989, I am testing the cosmic addison so far 3 days of testing and an update does not hear bugs, and I am really enjoying the ROM design and in that little time of use it has remained stable.

Device: Motorola Moto Z Play [XT1635-02] w/ unlocked BL
ROM: cosmic os (8.1.0) w/ Magisk
Recovery: unofficial TWRP 3.2.1-0

Just wait for official
All Oreo ROM are still in beta and release candidate state so bugs are to be found here and there. Most have camera saturation bug, unable to save photo to sdcard, and lower volume speaker but if you can live with that I've found that AOSP, Cosmic, and Xperience to be stable enough for daily use.
Also, there are no black theme, night mode, RAW capture, and Camera2API in official Oreo so I much prefer custom ROM plus our Devs are awesome like Alberto and TeamMex to mention a few, you shouldn't worry too much about bugs.
Thanks for the effort, but it is better to wait for the official update.
If you are too eager to get Oreo now... Try the official Oreo soak test... Just amazing... No bug at all... Superb audio and finally I can call using volte on second sim
Camera does not work

Whenever I install a 8.0 or .8.1 ROM, with x64 or x86 gaps. The camera does not work. some things work for third-party camera apps. :crying:
My Moto Z Play reteu is on stock Android 7.0. It has unlocked bootloader and it's rooted.
Let's say Oreo is released. For obvious reasons I can't install any OTA updates. So, will there be a way to install Oreo via bootloader (fastboot)? Even if it's rooted? I'm really noob to this. Thanks in advance.

Question Future development for moto G60

I am looking to buy a new phone. My options right now are Redmi Note 10 pro and Moto G60
I want a stock android phone but am also looking at installing custom ROMs after the warranty date. Redmi Note 10 pro has extensive ROM support. So, once the kernel source code for this phone is released how good do you think the ROM development for tis will be?
I don't know the technical terms
I am new to this stuff
A dev said
Moto devices under sm6150, already have great rom development
Moto g40 and g60 also come under the same
So, 50%of the rom work is already done
Developers only need to tweak some settings here and there and release the rom
But as of now, HANOIP is facing Bootloader unlock issue, Moto said they are gonna fix it soon via an update
So, we can easily expect development but a little later, cause moto community is very small
Btw LIBER has already received A11 official P.E
I asked one of the developers. They said it might be slow coz this phone already runs on stock android
Yeah, it runs a stable A11 out of the box
So we don't need A11 custom rom
And It would receive A12 as well
So, we are saved for 2 years
Even if the development is slow
We can adjust as we have options ,unlike other meme devices

Question Will I Receive Regular Updates in Custom ROMs Even if it is not updated for Moto g40/60

I have a doubt about Custom ROMs, I have a smartphone moto g40 fusion and right now I think updates are very rare in this smartphone so that's why i am thinking about installing custom rom like LineageOS or EvolutionX in moto g40. But I found last info about custom ROM was posted in Moto g40/60 forum was on May 2022 and it too much in past so will I get updates even if I install it right now. And if possible plz explain how update work in custom rom like how devs update them, like do they update only like LineageOS or specifically moto g40/60 LineageOS every time. thanx in advance .

As you can see here, @Raghu varma just updated his build on January 7th. Just remember, since this is an unofficial build you will have to manually update it.

Custom roms are updated at the discretion of the Dev.
They can stop updating at any time, or continue working on it for years.

Then will I have to flash my phone after every update release by Dev working on this phone.. is there any easy way to get update even after dev stop working on this Custom ROM like can I update it?, sorry for asking like this is going to be an easy task but I am just curious that may be it will be just building files from source code after copying updates from google to LineageOS for my phone. Thanx for clearing my doubts @ethical_haquer and @sd_shadow .

Yes, you would have to manually flash updates, and it requires quite a bit of expertise to build your own updates. The more popular a build is, the more likely it is that it will continue to be maintained.

Thanx uhh so much for your explanation @ethical_haquer . I think I should check out some details for basics of custom ROM building.... if possible (sorry for asking again and again) can you provide some roadmap like blueprint for basic ROM development or updating rom for personal phones.,

Would love to help, but I haven't gotten into building my own ROMs yet; I'm a Linux enthusiast, and just started running Lineage OS on my A52 4G and Raspberry Pi. You could try contacting @KonstaT though, he is maintaining a bunch of Lineage OS builds and might be able to help you, or at least point you in the right direction.
