Fire TV Stick - can't install any apps - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have a brand new stick with Alexa remote, logged in to Prime account, network good, but it won't download and install apps. It just gives an error message about not being able to compete the purchase (this is for free apps).
Any ideas?

Same issues here, already tried a total reset! All other amazon devices work fine, just my 2gen fire tv giving me issues

FXNOW app on Fire TV

I downloaded the new official Fxnow App for the Fire TV, logged in and tried to play something. Everything and I mean everything that I try to play brings up a 'can't play' error. Everything else works fine on the Fire TV ( netflix, Hbogo, etc. ) and the sideloaded FXnow apk app plays everything fine using a usb keyboard, so the only thing I can think of for why the official Fxnow app isn't playing is it's out, but not supported yet. The install app wasn't easy to find. It was buried in the search area, rather than coming up as an app under app categories, and therefore my conclusion is it won't be officially active until the 2nd Gen Fire Tv is released on Oct 5th. Anyone installed the Fxnow app, registered it with their cable / sat company and found out that nothing is playable? Wanted to find out if it was a problem on my end. Can someone please confirm this?
Thanks.
Just wanted to give an update to my problem in case someone had this same issue in the future. Turns out the problem is DNS proxy related. I'm using unotelly running a geo-proxy service allowing me to watch content from the U.S and U.K using sideloaded apk files along with using kodi for U.K content. When I remove the DNS from my Amazon Fire TV configuration, the FXNOW official app works fine. The official Fxnow app is being blocked somewhere in the proxy chain. So, currently I'm inquiring if anything can be done with help from my proxy provider. If not, I'll just go back to sideloading the apk version of the app and watch FXnow that way. So, basically nothing wrong with the app. Problem is due to my setup.

Setup multiple aftvs quickly as possible

So after having mine for a while now and showing it off I have had a few friends ask me if they purchased one could I set it up like mine for them.
Also thinking about getting one for each of my brothers for Christmas this year. I will not be doing root just installing fire starter and aide loading Kodi with my preferred addons.
Mainly I just want to back up my Kodi settings and adb the backup to the new devices.
I have this covered no issues.
Unless someone else has a better idea for that we will move on to the real question
During the setup process I have to login to my Amazon account. When I do these to my friends I would prefer that my cc info not be available to them. Is de registering the device sufficient enough in removing this?

Yes it should be, I also did the following when making a new account
Ok here's what I did, just make and separate email account and register with Amazon again. and use that account on the Amazon Fire TV, please note, some apps require a credit card or visa to be added to the account to be installed even if they're free apps. to get around that just add a fake credit card or visa to the account it'll work. It did for me.
I bought 3 fire sticks on Black Friday one for my office, one for my sister and one for her son. What I did was to configure the one for my office and used the fire utility app to backup the kodi setup. Then I just used the fire utility app to push kodi and firestarter restore the backup on each of the other sticks. 10 minutes for each stick.
When I was done with each stick in the fire tv system settings menu at the end there is an account selection. Pick account and then choose deregister account. This will remove your amazon information and prompt them for their information when they plug it into their tv. None of your kodi installation is touched using this method. Fire starter works etc.

Chrome and Google Photos on Fire TV?

So I'm trying to find out if it's even possible (without root) to put Chrome and/or Google Photos on my new Fire TV.
I tried using Apps2Fire and wasn't successful. Chrome failed to install and while Google Photos did install successfully, it would force stop when attempting to log into my account.
Anyway, thought I'd ask. Kinda new to the Fire TV. Thanks for the info!
I tried and failed with Google photos on a non rooted fire TV 2. The issue you'll face is in the Google play services framework. You can side load it but I didn't manage to find a higher enough latter build that would run on the fire TV to allow Google photos to run as it should.
However I do suggest getting Pfolio and side load it to your fire TV. Works perfectly and navigation with the fire remote is perfect.

[help] Tunnelbear for Fire TV (3rd generation)

Hi!
When I try to install tunnelbear on the fire tv I get an error about no matching ABIS. That doesn't happen however if I install it on the old fire tv box (haven't tried a stick). Any idea what this is about? I'm using Easy Fire Tools to do it, which I believe is the only android app that currently works with the 3rd generation box.
Thanks
Alright I was able to get around it by side loading aptoide and then installing from there. Unfortunately it was for nothing as the app requires Google play services.

fire tv not updating

Hi, a while ago a friend gave me a fire tv to see if it could be fixed, the problem is that it doesn't update, I restored it from the factory but it's still the same, any help is welcome

Assuming the stick was deregistered from your friends account, my guess is Amazon probably blacklisted it. If a device is reported as stolen or undelivered, or the user reports it as broken and gets a replacement, Amazon will just blacklist the device and send out a replacement. You can call Amazon customer support to verify if it is or not.
These Sticks have a one year warranty so your friend could get a replacement if they contact Amazon and it isn't one of the cases I listed above.
Otherwise, if the Stick is on its original firmware (something older than PS7273) then you can try to unlock it and use it without Amazon services, or reflash the Stick with LineageOS and use the Stick unrestricted.

Try a hotspot on the phone and connect the Fire TV stick to the hotspot from the phone. I had the same problem and with hotspot it worked.
