[Q] Has anyone used DLNA on the G2?

I have seen the discussion about the Desire Z using DLNA, but no mention of the G2. My TV does not support this feature, but I have been looking into buying a Media Link from HTC when it comes out($145). This will make my TV DLNA. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I have been looking all over and haven't found any info. Plus, I don't want to shell out the cash for an adapter for my TV if my phone dosen't support it. Thanks a million for any help or experience with this.
I haven't used it, but yes, that's the idea of the adapter thingy from HTC. If you don't have DLNA built into your TV, you buy HTC's adapter and plug it into your TV. Since DLNA is built into the Vision, it should then work to talk to your TV via that box.
Just to be clear, the G2 has DLNA? I know they are both Vision devices, but the only word I have heard about it is for the Desire Z. Thanks.

bump!
Im curious about this too
Hmm, that's a good point, I hadn't realised the G2 spec didn't mention DLNA.
Looking at the user manuals, the DZ guide does talk about DLNA, but the G2 doesn't.
They're the same hardware though, so in the worst case you could run a Sense ROM on the G2 to get the DLNA stuff. Or just get an app for your G2 ROM that includes DLNA support. It shouldn't be a big issue.
I would imagine it's the same as the FM receiver. No word of it if you look at G2 specs but yet it works fine with the appropriate rom/kernel.
DLNA is software-based and only requires access to your home network. I haven't used any of the Sense ROMs, but I would imagine it simply uses the WiFi network.
It uses your WiFi.
There are android DLNA servers and clients available, and there are command-line driven linux dlna servers and clients available, many of which will work just fine on android.
I do NOT suggest buying a DLNA device from HTC, particularly at that kind of price. You can get something more functional, like a WDTV Live HD (also supports DLNA) for less money. http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=5255820&sku=W10-9304
Now what appears to be true is that the HTC DLNA implementation, and particularly, their DLNA adapter, has some proprietary extensions, or more aptly, EXCLUSIONS, to prevent smooth operation with 3rd party clients and/or servers. The adapter requires some special HTC-only software and won't work with a non-HTC DLNA source, and I suspect that the server software (runs on the phone) is probably rigged to only activate when an HTC DLNA adapter is detected.
Use of GENERIC DLNA software and hardware ensures complete compatibility with other DLNA devices that you have available on your network. Your computer, for example, is a fully capable DLNA client (as long as you have a DLNA client installed on it).
take a look at skifta and twonky... both work without a flaw.. i am currenty streaming music from my g2 to my ps3.. which in turn plays out my tv. =]
so if you have a tv or a dnla device these will work for you and make you happy..
and there both free.. twonky seems to work a lil better.
I use Twonky (search for that app name) as a DLNA server on my old G1 running a Cyanogen rom.
It works great.
Actually, I use the G1 as a makeshift webcam using IP Webcam app, but also run Twonky on it as a bonus. It works great and I've been very happy with it when streaming music to my TV.
Now if TiVo would just wake up and implement a DLNA client instead of insisting on their years-old proprietary media server.....but I digress.
I have heard twonky dosen't play video, is this true? My TV isn't DLNA, can I use my 360? I'm planning ahead for a new setup when I move. Getting a wireless N adapter For my xbox for gaming, but I want to stream music from my phone and play movies/videos from my laptop. That's why I was looking into an adapter.
Thanks for your input, you rock
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
The G2 and Desire Z are the same..just configured different

[Q] Video output to RCA suggestions...

For use in my van that has RCA inputs. One variable is that I have a Raspberry Pi that can be put to use in the vehicle. I have seen a video that allows wireless mirroring to the pi, but requires a firmware upgrade to a N7, which i own and am not going to do. I should be capable of tethering and streaming from plexbmc, but i also want to have the ability to stream from flixster and other sources available on the phone. Any and all suggestions are welcomed!

Chromecast Audio Receiver App

Apologies if a duplicate post. Tried searching to no avail
Are there any apps out there that can make an android device (in my case my Sony Android TV) act as a Chromecast Audio receiver?
I have a Chromecast Audio in one room connected to a speaker and I would like to group it with the TV/Soundbar in another
The TV has built in Chromecast Video functions but I can't group it, as seemingly you can't group Audio and Video devices, only Audio....
I wish Google will add audio grouping with video chromecast in future update. That would be awesome.

I am also interested in this. I currently have first generation Chromecasts on all my tv's (Plan on picking up Chromecast Audio for all my stereo receivers).
Ideally my goal would be to be able to use a mix of setups so that I could multiroom cast to the following options.
1. Chromecast Audio
2. Chromecast Video (if even possible)
3. Android receiver app that emulates Chromecast Audio (put old android devices back in use)
4. PC emulator that emulates Chromecast Audio (put our good pc speaker systems into the mix without having to add new devices)
thank you

ZE551ML and USB DAC

Hello all!
Sorry for my english. It is not so good as I want
I have Asus ZenFone 2 ZE551ML (Android 6. Firmware version is "WW-4.21.40.144") and Creative Sound Blaster E5 (latest firmware version).
It works correctly via bluetooth, but it don't work at all via USB.
I asked ASUS support - they answered, that all ZenFone2 phone officially not support USB-audio, but I tried to test Creative E5 with ASUS ZenFone2 ZE500KL (phone of my friend). It works as expected.
I asked them - can I fixed this, if I root my phone. Support answered "in theory".
Interesting moment - when I tried to connect E5 via OTG (microUSB to phone and microUSB to E5. Default way is - microUSB to phone and USB to E5(special port for mobile phones)). In this way I hear sound from the speaker of the phone and from the earphones, connected to E5. This is really strange.
Has anyone encountered this problem?
Can I fix this without root? Or with root? If it possible - how can I do it?
I would be very grateful for any help.
PS. I also wrote a letter to Creative support. But I think, that this is not issue of E5 (I tested it with about 15 different android and ios phones - it works fine).
In addition. I connected Creative E5 via OTG USB again (microUSB to phone and microUSB to E5) and install Onkyo HF player.
This app could initialize DAC and play music via it (without dublication to phone speaker).
But this don't solve the problem
Creative support answered me. Seems, that my phone not support AOA2. (I hope, that links to android.com are allowed here )
Anyone know - is there chance to add support of AOA2? May be with using ROOT access, or with unblocking bootloader? Thanks!

USB C to aux

Is there any way, either through a ROM or magisk or some flashable zip, to bypass the pixels lock on "supported only" aux adapters?
I want to use the adapter that came with my Motorola Moto z3, but it's "not supported" and won't work on the phone, and I'd have to go and get one of the various "supported" ones.
Any way to bypass this stupid thing?
