Completely messed up ROM - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Heya folks,
So my HTC 10 just randomly crapped out on me a few weeks ago. Been trying a few things to try to flash a new ROM on there, but I'm not having much luck and need advice. I was using my phone like I would any other time and all of a sudden the phone froze and restarted, but when it restarted it was taking forever to load back up (was just stuck at the HTC logo). I tried turning it off and on again and realized the thing was bootlooping on me. It wouldn't boot into system, download, recovery, nothing.
Now, here's the issue. My phone's S-ON and the bootloader is Locked. I've never done anything to the software on it before (but for some reason the software status is "Modified", which is weird. I did buy this phone used, so that could mean something, but I've never seen a modified software status on a bootloader that was not unlocked). The symptoms are pretty weird. I tried flashing the ROM using an official HTC RUU EXE, but the thing keeps saying that my phone is below 30%, and when I charge the phone it always starts charging at 22% (all the more reason I think the software is just completely kaputs). I found this thread where people were talking about the SD Card solution, but I'm quite sure the only way this would work is if my bootloader is unlocked.
So what do you guys think? Am I in a catch 22? Am I missing something? Any and all replies or questions would definitely help.

[Q] Stuck in a boot loop

Hello All
I purchased a phone from a friend of a friend so I don't have all the history of the phone. It looks like they attempted to root it and failed.
I only got it to boot op fully one time. (and I can't get it to boot up fully again) It goes to the htc incredible logo and starts over.) So here's what I know. I didn't see a superuser apk the one time I got it to boot. It has the radio that ends in 07.28. It has s-on. It has a recovery but not one that I'm used to (like on ogdroid)
Its says android system recovery <3e>
reboot
apply update.zip
wipe/factory
wipe cache partition
and at the bottom
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command
I've tried the unroot method to try to get it going, but no luck. I'm stuck. Any thoughts? Thanks for any help.
You can follow this thread, part 2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786436
Basically, download this file
http://www.fourty.net/~berzerker/stockstuff/PB31IMG_3.26.605.1_RUU.zip
Rename it to PB31IMG.zip, put it on the root of your SD card, boot the phone into the bootloader (hold vol + & pwr when turning on) and let it update. It should return it to a completely stock 2.2 with no root. From there you can go root it or do whatever you would like.
Ok I tried that. The update goes through successfully but I'm still stuck in the loop.
Is there a way to root or get s-off with out booting the phone? (I'm using a mac)
this happened to me recently - I reloaded RUU - hard reset - removed sd - left battery out for a while - used my wifes battery - power plugged in - Wiped everything possible in cwr (before ruu)
The phone is completely stock and wont stay on for more than 5 seconds if it even gets to the lock screen at all. In the end I had to put s-on and request a replacement
one thing I did notice though (hope this helps) I left my battery out of the phone overnight and in the morning without power connected it did boot all the way and I popped on to the market and used the browser for about 15 minutes - then fell back in to a boot loop and I wasn't able to reproduce that working state again.
Incredible
Try looking for a Ruu to return it stock,
make sure you wipe all.
Sometimes it helps to be patient and watch out for heat issues.
Not sure if this is related but My Hd2 on 2.3 and Mytouch 4g on 2.3 would boot loop when it got a little warm Remove the batter and let it sit for 10 minutes.
Ok
It's back to stock. I still have the same issue. It is the same problem that h0x90 had. This phone isn't activated and I'm not sure if it has a warranty or not. I would rather try to fix it if I can. Can I root it with adb or otherwise in its current state? I wonder if a rom would fix the problem. It seems to be software and not hardware, correct?
Before I was desperate enough to wipe everything (ruu) I loaded several different roms and loaded my backups - so in my case it was a hardware issue.
Verizon told me they cover the phone for 12 months from purchase date - and they're overnighting a refurb to me for free which is nice. Maybe if nothing else you can get a hold of the previous owner and attempt to get a replacement.
Best of luck though either way!

As the Incredible hasn't been on the market for a year yet, it's assuredly still within the warranty period.. As for trying to fix it yourself, I can all but guarantee that you cannot since what you're experiencing seems to be a relatively common hardware failure.
I finally gave up. I did find out that PCD at 1.800.229.1235 does warranty work for HTC. Maybe that information will help others. Thanks to all that helped.

[Q] **BRICKED**

HI. Okay, so a couple weeks ago, I received a notification from HTC that said there was a new update available. Since I had S-Off and an unlocked bootloader (don't ask why, I just ****ing do.) I could not update, as it would give me errors, and cancel the update. So, earlier today I was fed-up with how slow my phone was being, and I wanted to fix it by updating. So I scoured XDA and found a thread about how to update by updating the HBoot or whatever. I followed those instructions and everything was fine, until I got to the initial part of installing the new **** through RUU. It was running fine, and then all of a sudden, the phone disconnected and ****ed the installation up. My battery was fully charged, and still has a charge as I am writing this. I digress. Whenever I would try to power my phone on, I would feel THREE (3) vibrations, and nothing would happen after. I tried booting into the stock recovery (fastboot, recovery, etc) and would still get THREE (3) vibrations. Bricked. So, I looked through a few threads on XDA, and found a few ways to fix it. Something about a Blind HBoot, or a Qualcomm Diagnostic Mode being stuck or something. Figured it was my best shot to try these. I tried them all. I put the PG76IMG.zip into my SD card, and booted up when holding Volume down, and only got THREE (3) vibrations. The tutorial said I was supposed to get FIVE (5) vibrations. So, I thought maybe it was something strange, and kept going through the tutorial. After five minutes, I'm supposed to press VOL UP, and should feel THREE (3) vibrations. Nothing happened. I waited and waited and tried again, and still, nothing. My phone is still lying here as a paperweight, and I want to get this working, so I can sell it because this phone is too much of a ****ing hassle for me. NOTHING HAS WORKED. ROMS, KERNELS, NOTHING. HAS. WORKED. I'M TIRED OF IT. I'm not a noob, I've been working with Android phones for a long time, and have never quite used an HTC device before. I had a Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate (CDMA) and it lost it's flash after I had moved to a different state. (The state I'm in does not have any towers for that carrier here.) SO. Can ANYONE give me a HIGHLY DETAILED tutorial, STEP BY STEP, to fix my phone?
HTC Wildfire S *Relocked* bootloader S-OFF CDMA METRO PCS.
I have tried everything I can find, and I have reached my wits end, man. Please, for the love of GOD, help me. I would really appreciate it.
I had 1000 rom flashes
3 Updates through RUU
Never had a brick
I hope someone can help you.

ok, im not saying i can get it going again but i`ll do my best to help. lets start from the beginning, what actually works atm? you say when you try boot up the phone in any way it just vibrates 3 times.
does it do anything else, does the screen light up?
does it even stay on?
when you connect it to the charger does the led still light up?
have you tried to connect it to the pc? have you tried to connect it too the pc with volume down first?
all seem very basic stuff obviously but if the pc can register it in hboot we might be able to get a ruu running on it.
Found this on a different thread...
Nevermind. Just realized you were still getting three vibrates. Sorry man. I'll keep an eye out if I see anything else that might help.
what is your hboot version? i was see 1.09.099 like in forum maybe you can start with update hboot.
you can use adb for all of this works. download a ruu and run it. after some steps you can find rom.zip in windows/temp extract it to a folder like c:\android\rom and use adb for install all *.img files. maybe it can fix that problem

seriously , adb can install img files ?!
Alright, well, I called htc and told them about my problem, and I might have to just send it in. BUT. I had my phone rooted, and had CM Recovery on it. So, since nothing is booting up at all, only the three vibrates when trying to enter either boot mode, will they be able to see that I had it rooted or anything? They said they'll charge 35$ just to ship it back in the same condition if it is. Can't really afford anything like that right now.
tl;dr I had my phone rooted, but nothing on my phone comes up, will they see my root or anything?
if you are rooted you are probably s-off or at least have unlocked bootloader. and both they will find out very easily.
Sorry for my bad it was fastboot.exe you can install .img files with fastboot.exe i was installed stock recovery with that

[Q] Phone won't power on. Bricked?

Hi all,
I was having some random reboots on my HTC desire Z lately and decided it was time to try a custom rom. I followed the right steps to first downgrade to froyo, which was successful and next rooted the phone, which seem to have worked as well.
The next step was to get into recovery mode to install the rom, but I did not get to that. I took out the battery while it was still on to power it off, but then it did not power on anymore. Also connecting the charger has no effect at all, so it sure seems to be bricked.
Does anyone have a suggestion on what I can try, or what happened to it?
The way I downgraded and rooted was by using Strawmetals guide which can be found here:
http://minus.com/mu9vZ3P38
and was suggested in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
I carefully completed all the steps, checked the MD5's etc. and made sure the notifications/verifications I got back in the process were correct..
Also, I wonder if I would run into problems if I send it back in for warranty. If I can't get it to boot, will they? And next they will probably blame me for rooting, right?
Regards & TIA
Yes they gonna blame you for rooting. I was had a same problem, no boot to recovery. I solved the problem with install 4Ext updater and fromit install 4ext tuch, and now I can flash roms. Try to find a charged battery or put yours into another phone and charge it. If I understand right your battery died?!

Sounds like it might be bricked mate, same thing happened to me... 3 times. They probably won't be able to get the phone to boot, where did you buy the phone from? My second one was from Vodafone with a warranty, when it bricked I took it in, they plugged the phone in and left it for a few minutes and tried to power it on, tried a different battery (All things I already tried) to see if the device was showing any signs of life, it wasn't and I walked out with a new phone. I doubt they'd be able to bring it back to life to see that it's been rooted. You COULD connect your phone to a car battery and fry it, tell them you went to sleep and woke up and the phone was very very hot and it burnt your hand and melted the charger cable, not sure if I could recommend this, never done it myself... but if you have no other option.
These were also the options I considered. Got to give it a try with a different battery, if I can find one. If that doesn't make a difference, I'll just hand it in and see what they have to say, as there's nothing else I can do without being able to power on the phone..
All of a sudden the phone started working again . And afterwards I was able to complete the update to Mimicry 1.5.
Strange problem, as the phone seemed to be dead for hours.. Hope it doesn't happen again!

[Q] HOX all stock, not booting

Hello,
I know booting issues are possible when opening the bootloader and messing with kernels and rom flashing but that's not my case and I couldn't find a post that helped me so I hope someone can help me out on this.
I am a member of the HTC User Trial program and I'm currently testing the 3.09.401.100 Jelly Bean ROM, all stock, not rooted, never opened the bootloader or flashed any firmware besides official HTC RUU when OTA came out late (UK device, always last to get official OTA )
Last night I left my phone on before I went to sleep and it had low battery. This morning I tried to turn it on and it didn't work so I thought that the battery went out. Naturally, I plugged my phone to the charger and the red led didn't light red to indicate charging for a 30sec-1minute period, than it flashed red a few times and afterwards it lighted up red as if the phone was charging. I've left the phone turned off to charge for about 3.5 hours (even after the led turned green, just to get it really fully charged).
Now, when I try to turn the phone on, it get's stuck in the "HTC ONE" bootscreen with the beats audio logo at the bottom.
Long press on the power button reboots the phone but the issue repeats and the phone does not boot past the boot screen with the logo.
Couldn't attach my HBOOT photo so here's a link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/oxk8yz19ew0gi6s/hboot.jpg
Same
I'm having the same problem with an unlocked bootloader
sound weird...
you aways could try to do a factory reset from the bootloader, but should be considered a last resort since you memory will be wiped clean

Contacted HTC with this issue and they are not familiar with it as well. They have asked me to send a bugreport using ADB and told me that a factory reset may be required.
I will update if anything new pops up.
What is the starting of your device's serial number? if you don't mind (eg: mine are HW251XXXXXX)

HT23Y******* - Do you think it's related to my specific issue?
As for the problem itself, since I have all my important data backed up, I have done a factory reset and it sorted things out. No other solution from HTC in the meanwhile.

The problem is that I think that this leaked OTA was meant for some devices only (it contains "goldfish" libs not "endeavor") and 3 devices on this forum have reported incompatible hardware issues with the new hboot.
Are you sure you flashed boot.img from bootloader ? and how did you get into user trial program or where you randomly chosen ?

I got the update directly from HTC as I'm a member on the User Trial program, no flashing what so ever, just plain OTA download & install.
I was chosen to participate in the User Trial program because I'm also a member on HTC Elevate and they asked users to join the program for testing One X software update.

HELP! McAfee thinks my phone is rooted and locked me out

So a little background first. Over the past couple of weeks I've been having an issue where my phone just all of a sudden tells me that my sim is not recognized. Usually a power down and back up fixes it, but it's been getting worse and worse. I tried getting a new sim card but that didn't help.
So today the problem occurs again, and when I restart I get a McAffee screen telling me my phone is locked because it's been rooted (it has not). From what I can tell, the only thing it will let me do is enter a pin that I don't know. Do I have any options here, or am I totally bricked? Any help would be appreciated, I'm starting to panic.
Don't worry, your phone till okay.
the last option you can do is hard reset or try to flash stock
