I personally recommend VertexOS. It does a little bit better on battery compared to OOS. But the performance gains are huge.

It's based of CAF, it ships with OOS cam. I personally can't go back to OxygenOS because of the performance / smoothness difference. Give it a try if you like a minimalistic rom with great performance and good battery life.

Well, it's always handy to be unlocked any way. Since if an issue popsup you can easily fix it yourself. Also, your going to need to do a clean install everytime you switch a rom.

Well first try to properly explain things so I can understand it better. If you are unlocked and in Stock OOS you will get the Ota. But with rom modifications I personally recommend to flash the full zip instead of the Ota.

What I want to know/ask you:
1. Any good way to calibrate battery for best battery life
2. Stay with "stock" screen protector or change it to something better?
3. What ROM u guys recommend to install?

Will edit/write comment if i would ask something more

I know the devs worked hard on it and for some it's a great ROM however for me freedom is dog ****
Never remove the icluded screenprotector. Just dont and avoid reading any news or user experience with screenprotection/ tempered glass. You will regret removing it.
Dont forget to make a backup before changing your rom also backup imei
Till aospa 7.0 is out use aicp nougat rom + latest arm64 7.0 pico gapps from opengapps you can also use ex kernel cm variant for nougat format data/cache to f2fs use viperatmos 5.5 if you use included root change selinux to permissive for viper to work. use nova launcher, neutron music player and buy powerbeats 2 and enjoy.
@Ahmed rahi thanks, i will remember that XD @nadejo so i will keep this screenprotector as u said and thanks for that tip with backup IMEI. About this headphones i will still use my HyperX Cloud but anyway thanks for your advice
I see it hasn't been mentioned yet: no custom ROM achieves the same camera quality as OOS. (there is OOS camera port, but some features don't work well)
That's probably the main reason people (including me) use FreedomOS - it's just debloated OOS, so camera is also the same.
Don't know what's Ahmed rahi's issue with it, but the ROM really isn't any worse or better than stock OOS, just debloated. And I'd say OOS is already a pretty decent ROM ?

How is the audio clarity and quality when compared to the stock ROM? I have stopped flashing any custom ROMs - be it Oreo or Pie just because of this issue. Also, could you please share the full camera version that you are currently using - is that without the Portrait mode? Also, how much screen-on time are you getting?
Hello there... this post got my interest too. I have jumped back and forth between stock and custom. It is sad "for me" that it seems most devs have given up on supporting / maintaining Oreo 8.1. Everyone is trying to iron out the bugs in a Pie custom... however, I simply want the stability to be there... especially with the camera features and battery life. I am not a gamer either, btw. With all of that said, I have a question or two please.
1. Why did you quote using an older version of Magisk? Is there a compatibility thing that I should be aware of?
2. With the Gcam mod you referenced, does stability work smoothly while recording video? I have found that in many custom builds the stability mode can be jerky and no too smooth.
TIA
hello,
after pie update gcam working on front camera also...
but in stock kernel.
so i use mokee os because it use stock code gcam also work on this rom.
is there anyone who knows kernel developer and talk with them about it...i tried but no one noticed...
1- pm developers for random questions like "problems with gcam" is a very bad idea, they will probably block (Ignore if you have luck) you, they don't really care about that, trust me.
2- The camera works because he extracted/reverse-engineered some parts of the stock pie kernel.
Wait for Miui stable Pie and the new kernel sources, the problems will be solved.

I have limited experience with ROMs. So please wait for people who has tested more ROMs for better feedback.
I always prefer using Custom ROMs as stock as possible. I don't ROOT or add any extra custom modification, like battery management or such extra stuff.
I have seen MiUi feels bit sluggish but gives excellent battery back-up, especially if you don't game. Productivity wise, it felt 40/50% better than most other ROMs & I guess additional battery management apps & mods (underclocking CPU/GPU, reducing system animation levels, etc) may even double that.
Thanks

Arrow Oreo last version or crdroid last version with prototype 3.18 kernel.. definitely give upto 2 days when combined with akt battery saver profile and balanced on spectrum..
Deep CAF pie also good.. can easily give upto 2 day back up of not much usage.
I recently moved away from jag Oreo latest as off screen drain was 1% - 1.2% per hour even after a week of letting it "settle"..
I don't keep WiFi/location/ WiFi scanning on at all... Just regular stuff that have on my phone..

Both are old treble roms .. you need to do f2v and use old treble twrp if you have flashed recent pie ROMs..
Attached both for you here just in case.. extract.. flash f2v then twrp.. reboot to recovery.. flash f2v again and reboot to recovery.. good to go

Aosip 8.1 20180809 built
It gives awesome battery pack up and stand by time ,
I leave my phone full night it loose only 1 percentage with moxie kernel
I always play lot of game like pubg , call of duty
In this rom I feel less heat while gaming compared to other roms ,
When I play games I choose gaming mode in spectrum app it gives awesome performance , while using other stuffs I just put battery mode
You should try this rom
Battery drain 75 to 44 percentage

You will have to try by yourself. There is not even 1 ROM (even stock) ,that doesn't have bugs. So it depends what you need : customisations , battery life , multitasking , gaming . You'll have to find the best one for you. At this moment I like Android 10(The GSI version, not the Pixel experience version).Battery life is great , gaming too , but it needs some modifications , that you can find in the thread. There is no BEST ROM , most of them are great , just before flashing , read the opinion of the users in comments. There you'll find most common issues and fixes for them. Good luck and happy flashing!

I don't have problem with that . The only bad thing is that I can't find good Google camera , so I use the paid version of Footej Camera , the app supports 4k video recording , so it's not a big deal. The bad thing is that you'll need to flash gms beta apk , so you can log in in Chrome, but that's a simple task
