How to Update to Nougat on a Rooted Device with TWRP? - Samsung Galaxy A3, A5, A7 (2017) Questions & Answe

Hello.
I have a Samsung Galaxy A3 (2017) running on Android 6.0.1, rooted, with TWRP installed. Can someone help me out with a straightforward way to update it to Nougat (UAE version) that does not involve using a Windows PC?
I was under the assumption that I'd be able to flash a file through TWRP and be on my way. Is it not that simple?
Update: I'm sorry, I just realised that I was supposed to post this in the QnA section. I'll be more careful next time.

currently theres just no way doin that without a pc

Will there be one in the near future?

No

[Q] How do I get the Gear VR to work with my rooted Note 4 developers edition?

I have a rooted Samsung/Verizon Note 4 developers edition. I want to get the Gear VR working with it and keep TouchWiz, if possible. I backed up my aboot partition also, just in case. Are there any solutions out there yet?
210 views and no replies? I can't be the only owner of a developer version who wants to use the Gear VR with it, can I?
Gear VR works the same with root as it does in retail. As long as you just root stock or your rom comes from the android development forum (as opposed to ORIGINAL android development) you should be fine
My ROM is fully compatible with Gear VR and for the average user runs just like stock.

Thank you, gentlemen, for your answers! I'm checking your thread now, Balla, to see how I can flash this ROM. I've rooted all my devices since 2010, but I'm still kind of a noob in these things. Just want to make sure i can still use my pen.

Yeah you can use the pen like normal. Actually you wouldnt even tell a difference between stock ROM and my ROM except for extra added features.
OK, Balla, I downloaded your DevEd OAF update file and your Morom file. I need to install the DevEd OAF file first, according to your instructions. How do i do that? Just flash it in Odin? When I first got my phone, I installed TWRP and did a nandroid BU. Then I rooted it using Chainfires files, If I remember correctly. Then I did another backup. So my firmware is the standard one that comes with the DEV edition right now. Android version 4.4.4

Will I have to run Chainfire's root app again? and if so, when do I flash that? After TWRP?

nope. Everything is included in the ROM.
Do I need to deodex anything before starting? Like I said, i'm kind of a noob...LOL
Nevermind, Balla. I saw the words deodexed in the ROM page. I'm a goonbag...LOL
Hey Guys, haven't rooted my note 4 because I still need to send it to samsung for hardware issues. And I haven't rooted a phone since my note 2. My main question is will the Gear VR still work with the latest firmware 5.1.1 root? If so only on stock or is there a new custom rom that will support it that is also 5.1.1?

[6.0] TWRP and Root for Moto Z Play

Hello guys, last week I was thinking about rooting my z play, and for that I was supposed to unlock my bootloader. That's not difficult to unlock it since you don't do anything wrong, following every step of the guide you found. However, there's something different on this device, the custom recovery. I'm not able to find a thread saying that there's an official release of TWRP for Moto Z Play, and even if I'm not finding an official one, all that I can see is just for Nougat, version 7.1.1, but I want it for Marshmallow, 6.0.x because I want to get back to that version, IMO Nougat uses too much battery comparing to Marshmallow, that's one of the reasons.
Could someone please tell me if there's a trustworthy TWRP img that I can use in 6.0.x to flash either Magisk, Super SU or any other root app?
That's all guys, hope someone can help me with that, THANK YOU ALL SINCE NOW!
Obs. Currently I'm not even unlocked because I want to do everything at the same time, until I don't get a trustworthy custom recovery to flash those zip files, I won't do that. Thanks.
Why cant you just flash the lastest twrp version? And flash an rom?

Because I don't know if the latest version is really compatible with my device, since I've gone to TWRP website and checked if my device was there... Aaaand, it wasn't at the compatible devices list...
So I'm worried about that...
Any help with it?

Ota 8.0 mate se bnd-l34 root help

OK guys,
First of all I have the MATE SE with the 8.0 OTA update that rolled out recently. I have an unlocked bootloader with everything else stock and pure. I am having trouble trying to find a solid solution for rooting this phone so here are my questions.
1. Is there a way to root the phone without modifying the recovery, i.e. TWRP. If so, how? I herd of Magisk but nothing sure about using it with Oreo and the need for boot.img files.
2. If i need to use TWRP, what TWRP file do i need that works? with instructions....
3. I want to used the Xposed framework as well. So which files work with this phone and 8.0 and so on....
thanks
Pretty sure yes folks have gotten root on Oreo. Check out this thread but I recommend caution.. I'm pretty sure if you read through it you'll find it somewhere.
I'm waiting for better organization for our very new device but here you go:

This phone don't have mods because this have MTK processor.
If you want root You can do it via magisk.
Just download stock rom (you MUST have same rom version in your phone) from htcdev.com. Unlock bootoader. Extract from stock rom boot.img. Patch it in magisk app and flash it through adb. I didn't tried this before but I've got this phone and I will do this same way i wrote. I did same thing with other htc with mtk processor and it works.

Downgrade Dual Sim S7 to Nougat ?

Know there are issues with the Oreo bootloader and it seems that Odin does not allow for downgrading.
Any suggestions welcomed (other than just throw the "*%%$%" thing out and go back to my rooted S6)

Heimdall should be able to downgrade
https://gitlab.com/BenjaminDobell/Heimdall
Hi,
I successfully installed /e/ (which is based on lineage 14.1 Nougat), coming from stock Oreo rom using the LineageOS wiki under Linux, using heimdall / twrp / adb
I had no problem at all, my phone is S7 Exynos single SIM
So theres way to downgrade bootloader? Heimdall can do even marshmallow?
