A5 2017 ext storage capability? - Samsung Galaxy A3, A5, A7 (2017) Questions & Answe

Hi everyone!
Is a5 2017 capable of accessing large ext storage devices?
I tried plugging in my seagate 2tb ext hdd using otg adapter but it wont let me access any files. It will only show seagate storage corrupted error. But if i plug my ext hdd in to any computer, everything works fine.
Otg adapter is ok since i can access my 16gb flashdrive connected to my device.
My device is a5 2017 running on android 6.1 and my ext hdd is seagate 2tb which i divide into 4 partitions.

2 TB? Do you use the power adapter also for your storage? Normally if you connect your storage device to a phone it will require it's own connector for power supply so it can run smoothly

Beside power supply issue. And also, maybe android cannot read NTFS file system, phone just can read FAT32, exFAT

Both of you maybe right.. the larger the size, the more power it requires and my hdd is ntfs as well.. was hoping theres another way around though..

[Q] Can't transfer over 4GB file?

Just got mine Sandisk SDXC 64GB card and it come with exFat. I can transfer large file over 4GB with SDCard adapter plugged in computer, but can't with phone connected to computer and why is it that way?
Anyone have same problem and transfer larger file then 4GB doesn't work while connect with the phone?
Have not got a note 2 yet, but I believe it has got to do with the file format of your SDCARD. FAT32 only accepts max 4GB per file.

Wish its that simple.
Read again what i wrote: "I can transfer large file over 4GB with SDCard adapter plugged in computer, but can't with phone connected to computer "
If the card is in fat32 and it wont transfer files larger then 4GB with the SD Card adapter, right?
Im not alone with this problem, alot others have same problem and no one know the reason. Why it cant larger files when plug in the phone with USB cable, but it works over Wifi and some apps. But with much slower speed if using wifi.
Format the card in a Win 7 pc as exfat, i believe the note will read exfat and that handles files of over 4gb. Other than that you need to root and use an NTFS mount app.

Perhaps it's some sort of MTP limitation then.
Wouldn't the fastest way be to use a card reader?

I can confirm exactly same observation on my new Note 2. I am using SanDisk UHS-1 64GB and Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. The card is formatted to exFAT (confirmed in Windows) and I can copy 8GB file to it, using cheap SD card <--> USB adapter. When I put the card into Note 2 and connect the phone to Windows, it will pop up as GT-7100 with "Card" (external SD card) and "Phone" (internal storage).
Once I try to copy the same file to "Card" (using Windows Explorer), the system first asks if I am sure (because the format may not be supported by phone) and then quits with error message saying the file size is not supported (and nothing is written to the "Card" filesystem).
It seems like some limitation on MTP (or whatever it is), but I am confused, because from other threads I understood, there should not be any limitation on MTP regarding the file size.
It seems the solution could be direct access to the card via USB mass storage protocol, but it is unfortunately not available too.
Anyone knows if it is just a glitch, or new "feature" in JB?

Try formating the drive with NTFS and connect to your phone.
Its because NTFS can be used for unlimited storage.
Still if your phone can't accept it, let me know
exFAT can handle 1tb also. Just do a quick reformat with either one. That should do the trick.

access external HDD from computer

With my Windows 10 computer I can access my Nvidia but I also connected an external HDD into the Shield (via a USB-Hub) and how could I access this external HDD from my computer?
I only see the Shield and don’t see the HDD which is formatted exFAT.

Is it possible to resize a USB partition?

Hi,
I expanded FireTV 4K Max storage by installing a USB flash drive together with a OTG and a usb 3.0 hub but i formatted the whole USB as internal storage.
I would like to know if is it possible to resize the USB partition used as internal storage so i canuse the rest of the USB as external storage without having t format the whole USB?
Hope someone can help.
Thanks in advanced.

Question Connecting 6 Pro to Samsung Portable SSD

I have a Samsung Portable SSD T7 and wanted to transfer files from Phone to it. The SSD already has files on it but Phone says I need to format it.
is there any way around this? I don't want to have to transfer all the files off the SSD just to convince phone it is formated.
thanks,
the only way I've ever been able to transfer files to a larger usb drive, is with USB Media Explorer (formerly Nexus Explorer). It costs a few bucks (but you can get a refund if it doesn't work).
The drive has to be in FAT32/NTFS or HFS format type, but it should work.
If it's formatted in ExFAT you may be able to use exFAT/NTFS for USB by Paragon Software. I've bought it to use my ExFAT formatted MicroSD card through an adapter - I don't have any external hard drives or SSDs to test with. I still use X-plore File Manager to access the card through Paragon's app.
