Have been thinking of trying this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZuYzQrIHjA
Has anyone tried it and have any info on how it looks and whether it has stayed as good or corroded/got worse over time. From the video it looks really nice but not sure how it is in real life. I don't really like the look of it currently so am willing to give this a go if I get positive feedback.
Do it anyway - you can replace the bezel fairly easily right?
Yeah true. . But still don't wanna ruin it if it ends up turning into a mess
I actually was thinking about removing the chrome entirely by either using this method or by using sand paper, just not sure how that would turn out to be since i havent seen anyone else doing. I think for starters ill try this out tomorrow as i truly dislike the chrome look plus its a good time to cover up those scratched with more scratches.lol. Thanks for this video.

I did it and it actually looks really nice. And also seems to improve grip slightly hopefully it'll stay looking this good.
I used the green part of one of those washing sponge things. Don't apply too much pressure, start very lightly and work up the pressure when you feel confortable.
By the way, with the method I used it doesn't have any scratches at all.. just that lovely brushed chrome look.
okay couldnt wait so i went ahead and did it.

Its alright tbh. Thing is I always have the Samsung Protective Cover+ on coz without the cover the phone just feels flimsy and very delicate. But yea otherwise the bezel is still better looking with brushed metal look. I would only recommend to someone who already has a scratched up bezel.

How about painting the bezel before brushing? What do you think? Is it possible? My devices bezel has some white points where the grey paint is gone.

No idea
But with the cost and ease of replacing it, its cetainly worth a go.

I wouldn't recommend painting over the existing chrome paint as it would be uneven and not really worth all the trouble especially if it already has some chipping. However, you could try plastic/rubber spray paint you can easily find at the hardware store. You can always take those things off easily leaving the chrome paint intact. Another option is to completely remove the chrome paint with perhaps a nail polish remover or something; you'll be left with a nice uni body like polycarbonate housing

That, I tried. But after I created a 1 cm white opening the fact suddenly hit me! Removing the paint on the buttons was not so easy and some grey paint would remain.
I've Just upgraded to the HTC One m8 last week from a HTC One x, loving it so far :good:
One thing I wondered was what type of glass is the rear camera lenses made from, don't suppose it's gorilla glass at last is it?
all it takes is a tiny scratch on it in the middle and that's the end of good photos, every mobile with a camera i've had to date has ended up with poor photo quality due to scratches.
I wish they fitted a metal shutter to cover it really, but gorilla glass like used on the front screen would help i bet.
I can't find any info on what type of glass it is, I was wondering myself. I just cut out a small piece of plastic and set it between the case and the phone to cover the lenses.
It hasn't affected picture quality that I've noticed. But if it ever gets scratch I can just change out the piece of plastic.
I don't see why HTC would put such a big circle for a small camera lens.

yeah i wondered that to, It's placed where my fingers go each time i pull it out my pocket to, the lens just gets finger prints all over it.
I was looking at all the cases to see if any have a shutter to close over it but no luck so far.

Wouldn't that be to capture more light in the lens ?

Just get a cheap screen protector a cut out a circle ?
But then agian, the glass is recessed in the housing i don't see how you would scratch it like that in the first place
Hello, I use a DotView case with my M8. But its back gets dirty over time, is it normal? I have the option to change it to silver, so, should I do it? Or it's normal and all phones get dirty stains over time?

Seriously? See all of those holes in the case? Of course it will get dirty, no matter what color.

And where do you think that dirt has access from?
Dust does get into cases.. It gets into even my spigen slim armour, through the USB port area.
As long as the dust comes off its fine.. If stuff like sand gets in there, then it's possible that your phone will get scratched.. @xunholyx the dot view case just covers the corners well, there's a lot of space on all the sides for dust to enter..
Why is there a black dot in the same exact place when I take a picture. It doesn't matter what camera app I use. I'm thinking that its someting under the camera lens. What should I do?
Looks like a piece of plastic or foam under the lens.

How can I remove it?
You'll have to open the back of the case and see if you can clear the debris that way. If it's not easily accessible or blown out that way, I'm not sure you'll even want to mess with it further. Not sure what kind of real uses this terrible camera has anyways.
Here's a teardown guide, be careful not to crack the back cover....

As it seems to be in the "center" of both pictures, i would say clean the lense cover, just be careful as the lense cover is plastic.

Can you get a clear look at the lense cover to see if it is depressed inward in the center?
sorry multitasking,
else it's most likely software side, play with exposure settings.
also something interesting, looking into the lense under bright light shows a clearly green highlight/reflection
it could be the reason.

Also, if it's not too much bother, could you please dispose those empty bottles in the first pic properly? PhotoChop may help you there...
