I have a minimalistic case from Peel. It looks really nice. Unfortunately, the cut out around the USB-C port is very small so that the USB-C cable doesn't fit snug. It is a bit loose and interferes from time to time with fast charging or with Android Auto when connected via the cable. Has anybody similar issues?
Marco
Why not reach out to them and get a replacement?

Hi,
People used all sorts of stuff to make DIY docks for the XZ, cardboard, plastic, wood, duck tape etc... there's a great thread here with some great low tech solutions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2167089
it'd be interesting to see if the Z1 gets the same DIY love?
Anyway, I've got my z1 today and now need to make a new dock/charger cable and car dock, sadly I'm going to have to start from scratch as my wife wants the ones i made for my xz.
I have some spare sugru and pogo pins so will post back later this weekend once I've put something together
EDIT: added pictures of my first attempt at a maglock cable, it works but is not very neat, the pin polarity is the same as the XZ, the top pin is positive
method:
put some soapy water on the charger contacts and push the sugru in to take an impression, peel off the sugru impression and let it dry overnight( keep the sugru impression thin, the soapy water stops the sugru sticking)
solder pogo pins to tails of an old USB cable
stick pogo pins through the contact positions in the dried sugru impression
use more sugru to make the plug, adding a magnet behind the impression
let it dry
mine comes unnattached from the phone too easily at the moment, but I'll modify it with a longer stronger magnet, although it will do for a desk stand or car dock where the phone is held in place, thus not relying on the magnet to get the contacts in the right position
Pictures of my home made dock using bits left over from my XZ dock
Wood back, Perspex bottom screwed to wood with pogo pins pushed through 1mm holes in perspex and held in place with a bit of glue. Then used a bit of sugru to position the phone in the exact place to make contact with the pins. No more plugging in at night.

I bought a magnetic cable from eBay approx £6 and then built a dock from lego around it. There's even a door to open just in case I want to plug my headphones in

This is exactly what I am looking to do with my wife's z1. Planning on using old fashioned wood and a couple of nails to act act the contacts to the z1 charging points to which I'll solder to a stripped usb cable.
My question, as I don't want to damage the phone: which contact point is which? I assume one is gnd and the other 5v, but which is which?
Thanks,

nice work :'D
WOW,great work.Really !
So wanting to add wireless charging to my car. I have a little cubby that my phone sits in everytime I get in the car. The plan is to somehow add a qi charger under this 1/8th inch thick plastic. Towards the top the phone doesn't sit flat and there is a 1/4 inch gap between phone and plastic. I have never done anything with qi charging... Ever.
So now on to the questions.
Will it charge through this thick of plastic?
The area where it will charge... Will it be small or can I make it rather large(7x5inch space)?
Could you point me towards a good place to buy the charging part? Ideally it wouldn't be in a plastic case suitable for sitting on a desk. If I could get away with attaching the coil directly to the underside of this little cubby I would like to do this.

My magnetic charging cable has stopped working. It was a cheap one from eBay, but lasted since launch.
I'm using a Diztronic case. Is there a magnetic charging dock that fits a z3c with this case? I'm in Canada, trying not to break the bank.
Alternatively, is there a recommended cable everyone endorses?
I use this one. It's probably going to be more expensive than the one you got from eBay, but it's worked pretty well for me.
http://www.amazon.ca/Magnector-Impr...GK3YI/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1455998239
It's got a convex curve that is meant to conform with the curvature of the side of the phone, but with a case on, it obviously makes it impossible to connect. I have a Devilcase, which is probably about as thick as your Diztronic. I just took a knife and cut the edge opposite the light, down to the little strip running along side. It now connects perfectly with the case on.
As for me - dock
Maybe I am a little too late to answer.
I use this one:
Wsken usb magnetic cable For Sony Xperia Z3 Z2 Z1 charging adapter charger cable - from AliExpress. Was around $8 only.
Store:BAOSIGHT Digital Technology
Sorry, can't post links. Don't have privileges, being a new member here.
Nice build quality and fast enough charging (at least faster than the earlier Htc cable I was using).
Although, the magnetic connection does not automatically snap at the exact pin location. Takes some fiddling around. Maybe that's the case with all such cables, I haven't used any other.
Nonetheless, I am very satisfied.
I've tried 3 or so different sorts, they all require a bit of fiddling sadly, shape of the z3c isn't helping
I use this one from Amazon.

Is it possible to put a case on the Pixel 3 XL and still use wireless charging? Will only certain cases work? None?
Thanks.
Probably depends on the case. Even on the Google website it shows one charging on the stand with a case (fabric on). Looking at Spigen's site some of them say clearly they support wireless charging while it's omitted for others...

Depends on the case. The ones that can will say so. For example some of the Spigens can and it says so. Others say nothing about it and they can't.
Yes you definitely can as long as there isn't anything blocking the connection through the case like a magnet. Even externally using a pop sockets you can't wireless charger. So the answer is yes it'll work through mostly anything and any case unless there is an object in between
During the Google presentation they said you can charge even with a case
Good to know. Thanks for the replies.
I have never had an issue wirelessly charging with a case on. With any phone and even using an external wireless charger adapter
Charging and charging well are two different things. As an example my Note 8 took forever to charge with the leather case on and had to be set on the charger just exactly right to charge at all. Case off and you could just toss it on the pad and it worked. Thick leather has been the worst in my experience, TPU seems to have little effect if any over charging sans case. In the latter case those were all lightweight close fitting cases, might be different with the thicker full protection style cases like a defender. Haven't tried any other materials with wireless charging.
I went with the "all around" protection and go the Otterbox Defender case... it unfortunately doesn't work well with the Pixel Stand.. even with the rubber outter shell off it doesn't charge consistantly. It will charge, then stop... I'm getting a Spigen Neo Hybrid which..is supposed to work with Wireless charging.

Most chargers require the case to be <=4mm to charge wirelessly.
I tried the Pixel Stand with my P3XL while the case was on (Otterbox Defender) and have not noticed any issues. Yet...

works great with spigen rugged armor..
I'm partial to my current phone's case, Spigen Tough Armor, with its kickstand and all, and they have a version for the Pixel 5. However, I'm worried its thickness might cause issues with wireless charging. It's not as bulky as some Otterboxes and such but it's been a while since I've had wireless charging so I'm not up with the state of things. How finnicky is wireless charging these days? Yes still, or not so much?
Wireless charging doesn't work through metal, afaik. Other than that, google it and let us know the results.
They claim it works with wireless charging. It did with my 3XL, so I ordered it for the 5.
The Pixel 5 specs are 4mm charging distance.

As long as you don't use a metal case it will work but it will be less efficient with the case. Wireless charging is already very inefficient (and therefore bad for battery life) as it is.
can confirm this:

works with these

Kind of odd the Pixel 5 has an aluminum metal case body and it has wireless charging.

It has a cutout in the back to allow for wireless charging.

I'm wondering if it really is a cutout in the back or if the charging coil is just on the outside of the phone but under the "bio-resin" coating. There would still have to be some small cutout to get a cable through but it would help structurally integrity by not needing as big of a hole.
I'm very curious to see a tear down video.

Although this replay is late and probably no longer relevant the Pixel 5 charges just fine though a tough Armor
A cover up !
______
I use both the Unicorn Beetle and the Kezi-Home and if I had to choose it would be the latter simply because I really don't like the front cover on the former and can be 'damaged' or worn if removed often. They are both outstanding and the kickstand on the Beetle is perfection to my mind and only wish I could fit them inside one another . I don't experience any wireless charging issues with either case on, though is perhaps due to the 25,000MA bank I use.
As long as the case isn't metal, it shouldn't cause a problem with wireless charging. There -may- be a slight drop in power transfer (longer charging times) if the case is particularly thick, as wireless charging is designed with the intent for the phone to be in direct contact with the charging pad, but it shouldn't be a significant problem.
