Hi, my HTC M9, which is not rooted, is soft bricked in a reboot loop. If I try to enter recovery mode then it going into a loop of vibrating and showing a black screen with silver letters saying "HTC." If I try to boot to download mode it says, "Failed to boot to download mode." If I reboot then it enters a reboot loop. Is there a way for me to fix this without having to send it to HTC and paying around $200? Also would there be a way for me to get anything off of the internal storage? Has anyone encountered this and solved it themselves? A reply would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much.

Have you had any luck? Seems lots of people are having this issue when trying to update but i haven't seen any fixes

No, I just keep it turned off for the time being and hope that there is a god on this forum.
There's probably nothing you can do and no data that you can recover. Those symptoms sound like the dead nand issue (c.f. the FAQ of the ReadMe thread). That problem occurs since autumn last year and so far the cause hasn't been found, yet. The strange thing is that not every M9 suffers from this problem...
However, the motherboard needs to be replaced and so far there haven't been any reports of successful diy repairs. All phones that suffered from this issue and are working, again, got repaired by HTC.

Alright thanks so much man. If i do plan on repairing it i'll probably just send it in. But also, do you or anybody else know approximately how much it costs to send it to HTC for this repair in CAD? Thanks.
Sorry, I don't know how much it'll cost.

Hi guys,
A friend of mine bought his HTC One X a couple of months ago and hasn't done anything to it, it's completely stock.
A couple of nights ago he said he was in the browser, all of a sudden the phone rebooted, loaded back up to the homescreen and then powered off.
Since then he hasn't been able to get it to boot or charge, and has now given it to me to try and fix.
It's been on charge overnight for around 9 hours and there is still no response in terms of leds flashing ect.
I've had a search and the issue has been seen before but not often.
Is there anything you would suggest trying? What would HTC do if this device was sent back, ie is there a 'download mode' for the One X or something similar, that HTC would force the device to boot into?
Thanks!
Should be under warranty if it rooted shouldn't it?

Absolutely right! However HTC have told him it'll take 3+ weeks to get back to him and he's wanting me to try and fix it without going through them..
Bump - Any suggestions?
Have you tried reading this : Wiki
Or maybe this : Disaster recovery
I'm not sure if they'll be useful in your case but you never now.

Anything you will do requires the phone to be unlocked with a custom recovery installed. This procedure is irreversible since the current LOCKED status will change at best to RELOCKED which will cause you a lot of headache later with HTC support. My advice send it to support without touching it.

My HTC One M8 got bricked while updating to android 4.4.4 (eye experience). According to futuretel, the warranty is only active for three months without a receipt. I tried locating a reliable phone repair shop in Toronto and its been a nightmare. HTC has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. The phone still contains my data. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.
please note: the power button is broken

Bricked how? Like, it won't turn on at all? I've seen a lot of people on this site say "hard bricked" when it is something that can be fixed with some guidance.
Does it turn on?

There's a lesson here, always keep your receipts. Also if it was broken already then you should have had it replaced. Unless you caused the damage then they won't replace it regardless because you could be the reason why it bricked

He has two posts, which doesn't really tell his experience with rooting and "bricks", but is usually a good indication. I have a feeling he can fix it with some help.
I could be wrong though. No answer on the "will your phone turn on?" yet.
EDIT: no power button. not bricked. hardware issue. should read the whole post instead of having another sip of beer.

No, the phone won't turn on. However, my computer picks up the device (connects then disconnects). I'm heading to a repair shop just now.

Learnt the hard way. The phone was working perfectly fine except for the power button. After the update, the phone was stuck in a boot loop between update symbol and low battery. I pulled out the sd card and now its just showing a flashing red light. I am going to get the power button fixed just now and get the technician to diagnose any other issues.
Did you happen to buy the device with a credit card? This almost always will suffice as a proof of purchase or receipt.
If your phone was in a loop when the battery died, its not bricked.
update
The phone shows up as QUALCOMM HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (com 3)
I'm planning on buying another phone (not HTC)

Its technically bricked but there are tools that you could use to fix it, but I doubt you want to take that much effort in fixing it.
So what was the point of this thread? You obviously don't want to fix it. So you just wanted to whine about it? Good luck on your next phone, don't brick that one too.
Pretty sure my m8 is bricked
Hey i sort of hi-jacked this thread , however it relates to my matter. I tried to convert my HTC into google play edition, I s -off, unlocked the boot loader and rooted it. Now for the fun part I went to flash a google m8 rom and BAM boot loaader came up with tampered and not only that the rom didn't work and now the htc boot screen (the white one) has a lock on the bottom and i can't do anything. I can access TWRP and have flashed other roms to it but it keeps denying them and going to the same htc boot screen with that lock symbol. Anyone please help I just got this phone and feel like I should never gotten myself mixed in this modding business lol . Thanks for anyone that can help me resolve this.

The only viable solution I came across is JTAG. Can you please share those tools? Phones shouldn't be bricking when updating on stock
hi everyone,
i bought m9 maybe a month ago but i have serious problems with it since the first day i get it.
1. sometimes (this means 8-9 times in a day) screen is working everything is fine with screen(3g arrows changing or time is changing) but touch is not working. nothing happens when i touch anywhere of screen, home back buttons also. if i press power button to wake and then power button again to wake up everything continues to work correctly. i mean touch is starting to work immediately.
2. in same frequency with 1st sometimes there is lagging on screen. i dont know how can i describe this but it's like i'm seeing the shadows or trails or traces of previous screen.
btw i'm using developer edition 1.31.617.30
any helps will be appreciated because this is really annoying and i miss my one m8
I know what you mean. I placed a post on this couple of days ago.
There was no response.
Today I factory reset mine.
So far so great....hopefully it stays this way.
Do you have yours rooted? I haven't rooted mine yet. First I want to see if my device isn't faulty so I can send it for service without any hassle.
But I had a feeling that it had something to do with ads popping up in my apps.
Since I did a factory reset i notice some apps that function more properly now.
Keep you posted.

thanks for the reply but what you mean by factory reset. is it in the settings menu of android. what i'm asking is did you do the factory reset from android menu or bootloader?
mine was a taiwan origin phone and i resetted it and problem still was the same then i made my phone s-off and changed mid and cid to install developer ruu. and now it's developer edition but everything about these problems are still the same.
I gave mine a factory reset from the menu. But by the sound of it..it looks like a hardware problem, since you gave yours a complete software overhaul.
Hopefully mine stays ok now. If not...we both have a faulty unit.
Good luck with yours.

thanks, i hope yours will go well.
btw anyone have any idea about does s-off breaks the warranty. and can i send my phone to warranty in usa while i bought it from hongkong?
Mine wasn't fixed by the factory reset. I guess it's a hardware fault. Mine gets replaced by my provider. No questions asked. Gets picked up and replaced.
Hopefully yours gets fixed under warranty. Since its a hardware fault. They have to prove you broke it by unlocking and flashing different software right?
Good luck.

i'm thinking about going back to completely stock version that i bought and s-on again. but cannot find the cid and mid info of my original 1.32.709.6 firmware. do you have any idea about this?
I got the T-Mobile variant here (I am recharging it for the first time so I am leaving it uninterrupted) but I immediately got the 400+MB update and as of now (stock, no root just yet) the phone is completely lag free even with power saver mode on.

Welcome Aboard, Great to see you join the party.
I have been using a rooted Verizon LG G4 with xPosed installed for a while now with no problems whatsoever. However, today when I was watching a video on Youtube, my phone suddenly turned off and entered into a bootloop. I can't seem to get out of it. I've tried:
- Pulling battery (duh)
- Pulling SD card
- Safe Mode (goes back into bootloop)
- Clear Cache (goes back into bootloop)
- USB Debug mode (bootloop)
and even - Factory Reset (currently bootlooping again)
My computer also doesn't recognize it, but I guess that's understandable because it's in a bootloop. I can hear the "device connected" sound from Windows 10, but I can't find my phone anywhere.
Is there any way to save this phone?
Same here, any luck since?

I ended up using the "Return to Stock with KDZ method" and flashed 11a firmware, but I'm still stuck bootlooping. I emailed LG, but they haven't replied yet. I'm out of options now, but it looks like I might have a new paperweight that can display the LG logo.

I called Verizon and got a replacement. It will be here Tuesday. I think the processor had all it could take. It runs too hot. I told them I tried everything including the FDR like you tried. They asked no other questions. Said it sounded like a major hardware issue.

What options do you think I would have? I bought the phone with a check from my friend who bought it from Best Buy, so I don't have a proof of purchase that LG needs for my G4 to be repaired. Do you think I could call Verizon as well, or do I need to start looking for another phone?

Do you pay the monthly insurance? The worst they can do is tell you that you're out of luck. I would call them first thing in the morning. It took me literally like 20 mins this morning. They never asked if I had rooted or anything. If all else fails PM me and I can tell you a great site to get a used phone on. I don't know how they are with links on here.

Hi all, ok tonight/this morning at work while on my break i went to do my usual thing of having food and watching a tv show via cartoon hd about 2mins in and my phone switched off.....now i thought it was dead so plugged in the charger but no led light, or screen on to say its charging.....i did a bit of googling and find out about the bootloop thingy buuuuut mines not looping, its swtiching on to the LG logo [i did the bootloader unlocker thingy etc so it says tha in the top corner] then it goes off.......i also get pulsing blue led lights too.....if i press, hold the power button after i get nothing, i have to take the battery out and then its rinse and repeat
Hi,
Same thing happened to me today. I was taking a shot and it switched off and same scenario. It seems that we had encountered an bootloader brick in which our device enters in some special bootloader mode in which when you connect it to the computer in the device manager it shows up as Qhsusb_bulk. I read the whole internet and there is a similar brick with G3 the guys were able to fix it. Even there is a tutorial on how to do this which I think is applicable to our device. I was able to install the required drivers and etc. but there is one big problem - I followed the guide and came into one serious problem - we need a special mbn file so we can recover our device and the sad thing is nobody on the internet doesn't have it still. There are many people like us who got selfbricked G4 and cannot fix it without this file. Please if somebody can help us please share the file so we can fix our devices. THANK YOU !

ive seen lots about the bootloop issue, but the thing is mine isnt doing a loop [i have to take the battery out/ pop it it back in, to switch it on then after 10-20 seconds on the LOGO it turns off

I have the issue. I don't do anything special but my phone reboot and stuck on lg logo. But now my phone doesn't want to boot. Sometimes he detect when I'm trying to charge it but often not. Yesterday I boot on download mode and recovery but today it's impossible... I think I have some hardware issue ? Or software with the bootloader...
I don't know how to fix that without access to download/recovery mode :crying:
Same here. Sometimes it boots into recovery/download but most of the times it doesn't. It's a hardware problem I think as LG officially confirmed that there were problems during the building proccess of the first G4 series. I don't want to sound bad but soon or later all phones built before october last year will get into bootloop. I was hoping it won't happen to me - I'm very light user with only light standart apps with no games and other heavy stuff, so the problem wasn't caused by overheating by heavy multitasking. Anyway it happened and I'm pretty sure it's harware related but if somebody can provide the tot and mbn files I will be more than happy to try the g2/g3 unbrick method. The main problem is that these files are not available for h815. I found on other forum tot files for other variants than h815 So if somebody have the tot filesfor h815 please share so we can try to unbrick our G4. Thanks!
same thing heppened to my g4 this week. i called lg last night and they agreed to repair it. i'd just gave them a call.
I sent mine for repair today. I hope they will agree to repare it even that it's with unlocked bootloader and with rooted custom rom !!! What you think ? Will I have problems with them because of that ?
Happened with my phone as well. It was rooted so i was hella scared if they didn't accept my phone. But soon they told me phone's motherboard has gone bad and will be replaced. Got my phone with a brand new motherboard after a couple of hours.

So the same problem just happened to my lg H815 with unlocked bootloader, am really f***ed without my phone, gonna call LG UK tomorrow, anything in particular I should say? also looking for solutions I saw many people are starting to have this issue now too - any official comments from LG?
P.S. if you have an LG G4 you should start backing up all your data now
This literally just happened in the last 15 minutes to me as well. Random reboot right after I woke up the phone and now stuck on the LG splash screen. Light user here, never did anything with the phone that would have heavily stressed it physically or computing-wise, so I also concur it's an inevitability for earlier runs of G4 phones.
Luckily, I backed up everything through TWRP last Thursday by chance because I was updating Xposed to the latest version and swapping to a faster 128GB microSDXC. At worst, I might have lost a handful of unimportant text messages.
Not worth the time to try to figure out any cheap fixes myself, I just got done submitting a repair request to LG.
I ordered LG G4 H815 and I hope to not see any kind of these issues
