Error executing updater binary in zip (noob here) - Verizon HTC One (M9)

Hi guys,
I tried to flash LineageOS 13.0 and 14.1 but it fails and I get shown the error "Error executing updater binary in zip". Since I am no professional for sure I thought I might ask you guys. How can I fix this?
If you need further information about my device dont hesitate to tell me.

If I missed a thread discussing this issue please excuse me.

edit: Just noticed I posted this in the wrong forum, sorry!
edit2: Alternatively I'd be happy if someone could upload or link me a backup of the stock rom. For some reason mine got corrupted

You need to update your TWRP if you are going to flash any rom. That is why you are getting errors... https://dl.twrp.me/hima/
You can find a stock rom here. https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...-verizon-htc-one-m9-marshmallow-3-37-t3318605

Thanks mate, gonna try it asap!
Edit: Tried now a couple of ROMs. Most of the time I just get the same error and if it does indeed install, after rebooting it just goes directly into the bootloader again and wont boot the ROM
Weird thing is than I had it working before with that recovery and lineageOS 13

Hi mate,
I updated the firmware with "3.37.605.28_NoBoot_TWRP3.1.0-0_firmware.zip" from the "★ ☆ [6.0][FIRMWARE/RUU] Verizon HTC One M9 Marshmallow 3.37.605.28 Resources ☆ ★" thread (cant post links)
I managed to update twrp to the most recent one and I can finally install LineageOS 13. But for some reason it installs the rom but after the LineageOS bootanimation it keeps shutting down and rebooting.
Any idea on how to fix this? So far you were really helpful mate!
Edit: I always got "updater process ended with error 7" when installing a ROM so I edited the file "updater-script" with this guide: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2522762
Edit2: Now my phone will reboot after booting no matter which ROM I use. Not even my backup will work now.

Something probably got ginked up in the process and I would start over with RUU at this point.
Back up anything important on your internal memory as this will wipe your device and ruu - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65358513&postcount=4 - then factory reset from stock recovery and flash 3.37.605.28_NoBoot_Twrp3.1.0-0 - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65358020&postcount=2 and you're on your way again

[Q] Status 7 Error?

I know this has been asked hundreds of times, and i searched the forums for days for a way to fix it, but with no use.
I have a rooted AT&T Galaxy SIII with JB 4.1.1. I am trying to install the CM 10.1(4.2.2) Nightly version, but i always get the infamous "Status 7 Installation Aborted" error.
Yes i am sure im downloading the correct ROM zip file for my phone and carrier.
I have CWM 6.0.2.1, and i followed the steps correctly. (Clear data -> Clear Cache Partition -> Clear Dalvik Cache -> install ROM)
I have tried so many times, i also re-rooted my phone, reinstalled CWM, and redownloaded different nightly versions of the ROM, as well as other ROMS like JellyBam.
I also tried to delete the assert lines in the update-script file, but that also wouldnt work.
Thank you. :good:
And please dont hate on me, im new to rooting and flashing. :crying:

if you can boot into the phone, download ROM manager and update your cwm recovery. latest version is 6.0.2.8.
CM10 and 10.1 are picky about you having the most recent version. cheers

Hi guys, I'm having same issue but on N7000 international version. I'm able to go in the recovery mode and download mode but phone won't boot normally. It's stuck on Samsung logo so can you please advise something? How can I update CWM if that's the issue. I was on ICS 4.0.4 XXLRK before trying to install CM10.1 on Note.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I would be doing my research in an N7000 forum, friend.
Also, your post seems confusing as you seem to be saying you also got a status 7 error but then you appear to have installed abroad and are stuck at the boot logo. If you successfully flashed the correct rom for your device without any errors, pull battery, replace and wipe data in recovery. Reboot

Apologies for both confusion and using the S3 that to find some help. I just found the situation quite familiar so I couldn't help myself from asking the question

If the phone itself is functioning fine but you simply cannot flash a new rom or rom update, you need to update your recovery. Go to clockworkmods website and download version 6.0.1.2.

I would take up this situation in the correct forum. The more we discuss your device issues the more likey you are to download the wrong file or use a procedure not designed for your device software.
If you came from stock, flashed a rom and are stuck at the samsung logo, boot into recovery, wipe data and cache. Reboot to see if that helped. If not, seek advice in the N7000 forum. Cheers
Thanks for the guidance.

[Guidance] SGH-T989 UPDATING ISSUE!

Good evening everyone!
I've recently wanted to update my Hercules from 4.1 (I know it's reeealy outdated) to version 6.0 Marshmallow.
So I did a few steps and now I cant' seem to go any further, and I need your help.
So far, I've done the following:
-Installed TWRP 2.8.7.0
-Used Odin to flash the TWRP mentioned above
Now, I know there are a few problems regarding this version of the TWRP on the Hercules, so I tried fixing it by using Odin again and flashing the updated 2.8.7.1 and even the 3.0 version that I found on some threads, but with no sucess.
I haven't even had the chance to install Marshmallow on my phone in the first chance, because I couldn't find any .ZIP folders on the TWRP instalation menu.
I really appreciate your help guys, I'm a noob at this and I'm just starting to figure what is what, I just need my phone updated. It's running so far atleast, so it's not hard bricked I guess.
Did you follow the instructions to flash TWRP using Odin?

I'm pretty sure I did everything I was intended to do. I installed Samsung Kies so I could install the drivers on my mobile, and then TWRP through Odin properly with the blue light showing up. After flashing it, it turned green and said PASS or PASSED. So I think I did everything right on that end, I can even access TWRP with no real problems.
I even tried to do a ROOT on my system, but again, I couldn't use ZIP or any other files on the TWRP installation option because they simply do not appear
bump
Watching this thread as I have the same problem.
I can boot to TWRP 2.8.7, but if I try to install, there's no file to install from.
I can go back to TWRP 2.6.0, and then mount the card and see the ROM, but every ROM I try fails. Something about non-virtual partitions if I try 4.4 or better, and error executing updater binary if i try 4.1

I don't know of any problems with any of the recoveries. However there are different recoveries for different roms which need to be used in a specific order and in a specific way, the first time that you virtually repartition your phone.
Have you gone through the process of applying the "virtual partition" and installing the modified "virtual partition" recovery? This is required for most of the MM roms on this phone (Hercules). The process is very well documented here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2-tmobile/help/guidance-sgh-t989-updating-issue-t3414641 in the #2nd post.

No, I dont' take I have taken that step actually. I'm pretty new to this and I tried following every step correctly, but I know that I failed or skipped something at some extent and I've been trying to figure out what exactly, so I can fix it. I guess I need to Virtual Partition my phone then, could you post me the link do to so? Because I think you posted one that would take back to this post

I shut it down in TWRP then hold volume down and power to go into download mode.
My phone has gone backwards now though - it doesn't matter what I load in Odin now, it won't boot up. The SAMSUNG screen is on, with a progress bar, but it never gets to the end. It stops right near the end and it sits there until I reboot it again.

OP3 - Nethunter - "Unpacking boot image failed"

Hi there,
I wanted to install the latest image of Nethunter (found on build.nethunter.com/nightly) but when I install it with TWRP I keep getting the message : "Unpacking boot image failed" in the log screen.
What I did in order:
- Unlock fastboot mode
- Flash TWRP recovery (found on build.nethunter.com/twrp)
- Reboot on TWRP
- Install kernel ( kernel-nethunter-oneplus3-nougat-3.15.4-20170126-2226 )
- Install ROM ( nethunter-generic-armhf-kalifs-minimal-rolling-3.15.4-20170202-1604 )
- Reboot
It is when I install the rom that I get the error message "Unpacking boot image failed". Even if at the end it says "install completed - Success", it keep loading (with the nethunter loading screen) indefinitely...
I tried many differents versions of TWRP and even different builds of Nethunter, I found nothing on the net, so what should I do ?
Should I post an issue on the kali-nethunter github ?
Hope you have some ideas of what I can try...
However if you need any other information (log file ...), tell me what.

What ROM are you using?
Last time i installed it i was on OOS 3.2.2. You have to flash kernel and then the big file (generic nethunter.....)
Found that in https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68451978&postcount=6
It worked perfectly but since 3.2.2 i havent touched it again so not sure what rom is compatible atm

Sure. Just give me time to post what i did, currently restoring my nandroid because something went wrong when updating metapackages, so im going to download full version instead of minimal and enable OGT-USB to check if wifite works. I will post the steps asap :good:
meanwhile..... how the **** do i enable usb-otg? i dont find the option in settings/storage/3dot
Good and bad news: OTG does not work (it worked for me on MM) but nethunter runs "well" ... it stucks while rebooting and some weird things more. It runs laggy as well...
Steps and config i have
-Experience ROM v10.1(oos 4.0.2 with some adds) and custom TWRP by blu_spark v14
1-Download these 2 files from https://build.nethunter.com/nightly/3.15.4-20170202-1604/
-kernel-nethunter-oneplus3-nougat-3.15.4-20170202-1604.zip
-nethunter-generic-arm64-kalifs-full-rolling-3.15.4-20170202-1604.zip
2-Reboot to recovery and install nethunter-generic-arm64.....
3-Not sure if you have to reboot and then install kernel but i flashed nethunter+kernel without rebooting to system
4-Reboot to system and open supersu, then open nethunter app and grant superuser permissions
5-Done.
I Dont really know why my external adapter or pendrive are not recognized, because it did in MM with same hardware lol. Maybe now only works with official usb-c adapter, who knows
I will try this when I can, but it is close to what I already did.
I will edit this post when done.
I seen that you used the arm64 version, perhaps the problem is that I use the armhf ?

Update error 7 during flashing of lineageos 14.1 nightly from february with twrp.

First experience with error 7:
I had cm13 installed on my asus zenfone 2, when i heard that lineageos replaced cyanogenmod i wanted to replace it with lineageos asap!So when the unofficial build was released, i made a backup of my apps with titanium back-up and CLEAN flashed the Unofficial lineagos nightly from 26-12-2016, then i saw the horror: ERROR 7! I was searching on google and youtube how to fix it, i could only find a way to bypass it.
You can delete the assert code from the "update-script" file to make i work. When i did that, i could flash the Unofficial lineagos nightly from 26-12-2016. After that i updated the bootloader with the newest version that existed on that day and then i could boot and i was happy.
Current state of my phone 9-2-2016:
Rom = Unofficial lineagos nightly from 26-12-2016.
I updated the bootloader, ifwi and the recovery with the upgrade file from the user jrior001 via this link: http://theflamingskull.com/zenfone2.html. Under the section: MM BOOTLOADER/FIRMWARE. I have manualy flashed twrp version: 3.0.3.1 (Thanks @Sayeed99), I have flashed the latest nightly from download.lineageos.org.
And i still get the error 7, after the error i erased all the assert codes from the "update-script" file and i still have error 7 with the extra message that you can't dirty flash the nightly from February on top of the actual rom because it is incompatible data. The only way to bypass it again, is by clean flashing the newest build by deleting the assert codes again. But clean flashing everytime gets annoying (thank god that titanium backup exists, i want to do it the usual way without error 7.
Can someone help me?
What do you want to do now , go back to stock M and try again ?
So.... I am ashamed of my self saying this but.
I managed to flash the newest nightly, the first time i had error 7 was because of a old bootloader, ifwi and twrp. I flashed everything from the flamingskull dudes website, and did a clean flash. Clean flash means that you delete every partition besides misc and external sd, after the delete of every partition you flash the nightly via twrp.
I will donate some money to the flamingskull dude for helping me with a problem he shouldn't have to.
Maybe i will make a youtube tutorial video for this thread, i will keep helping people on this thread because i feel guilty for not trying to clean install.
For the people that are stuck in twrp or anything else i guess you should follow the bricked device guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/zen...t3452785/page1
And for people with update process error 7, i have made a thread about this problem and will make a youtube video for it, this is the link for the thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/zen...-14-1-t3553715
Please keep this thread about bugs and problems about the rom and flashing the rom.
Sorry flamingskull dude...
The video will come, i only need time for it.
Same Issue!!
I'm having the same problem I spent 2 days already working out on this issue now I reverted to lollipop stock ROM. Please help me with this. I tried to flash lineage-14.1-20170208-nightly-Z00L-signed.zip with latest TWRP version but getting error 7 every time. I updated the ''updater-script", proceeds well but after rebooting phone goes to Fasboot mode directly.
Help ME!!!

Z00L?
Download every file from theflaminskull.com website under the section MM bootloader. Use the upgrade.bat file to upgrade everything from your phone.
After that clean flash ( delete every partition except external sd) the newest nightly from https://download.lineageos.org/Z00A, make sure you use the newest twrp version: 3.0.3 from say99. It is included in the upgrade.bat file. You can also manually flash it if the upgrade.bat file did not work.
Make backups with twrp or titanium backup to restore your missing apps on the new clean rom or revert back to the old state of the phone.
This worked for everyone, no discussion. If you experience problems during the process you must restart all devices in the process and try again. Or you must follow the unbrick guide for Z00A.
Good luck.
On 551 0r Z00A To prevent, ever to having this error in the beginning .
Reboot to bootloader -- Check IFWI version number >
0094.0173 is unlocked LP bootloader
0094.0177 is Locked LP bootloader
0094.0183 is M bootloader
There are many ways to upgrade bootloader , one is Jasons via the files pijetri links above Or you can if still on LP versions -- flash back stock recovery for .184 LP upwards--adb sideload .184 stock or upwards to .198 -- set up then upgrade to M -- Then use the Modder tools to unlock bootloader flash TWRP and root and more importantly back-up stock M rom before flashing away to your hearts content
EDIT: Fixed... messed up a little bit, but still got a tiny problem:
Every time I boot I get this message with a red triangle saying that my device couldn't be verified or something like this and a link to some site. Any way to fix this?
