How do I enable Hotspot? - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I have Note 4 SM-N910P Sprint unlocked, currently rooted. Wanted to know how I can enable Hotspot on it.
Using Stock Firmware Marshmallow 6.0.1.

Don't you have Hotspot and Tethering under Connections in the Settings Menu? If so it is self explanatory.

That's the problem, I don't. It seems to be locked by Sprint.

Not sure why, it might not be part of your plan.

A whole bunch of ROMs have hotspot enabled. If you want mostly stock, I would flash:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...t/05-15-17-debloated-deodexed-rooted-t3607029
Just follow the instructions closely.
If you are more adventurous, check out all the other fantastic ROMs in the development section.

I've got the same issue with my Note 4. I get an error saying I need to activate the hotspot service. What's the deal? I've never had a phone that did this. I am stuck using stock firmware since my service provider is TextNow and it won't function with any custom ROM I've tried.
I contacted TextNow and they explained that TextNow relies upon Sprint services in the background to function.
Anyone know of a way to bypass this?

Sprint hotspot

Is sprint hot spot not supposed to work until I pay or can i use it and it will pop up on my bill .

If your phone is stock you have to pay to get it turned on by sprint. If your phone is rooted there is a hack you can apply that bypasses the sprint activation and it just works. Many custom roms have the hack built in so you can use the hotspot free without using a separate app like wifi tether. If you flashed a custom rom and it now works you won't get billed
Right now the hack only works on 3g.

I actually signed up and came here with relatively the same question. I've rooted this phone and can still only create worthless 'ad hoc' mode networks. What is the name of said hack? I have been unable to locate one.
Thanks!

Note 2 mobile hotspot

I have the AT&T Note 2 model SGH-I317 rooted using stock ROM.
Don't mean to be redundant if there is a post here that works. Haven't been successful at getting my mobile hotspot active using any methods I've seen on here. Keep getting AT&Ts screen saying I need to call them to add tethering. Anyone direct me?
Thanks

Wifi tether for tmobile galaxy s4?

Hi guys! I just got my galaxy s4 yesterday. I rooted it, and I got wifi tether on the device. It didn't work, and I was wondering if it was the app's problem for not having support for gs4, or tmobioe blocking any tethering action for people with no hotspot plan, or that I just have the settings wrong. Can anyone help me? Thank you!

Maybe it's a carrier thingy, my friend's iPhone 5 can't enable hotspot... Anyway check if you have correct APN.

How do I change APN, and what does it do?

APN is the 3G\4G configuration.

Changing the APN (Access Point Name) won't make tethering "work". There are strings in the framework that need to be modified for it to work without getting cut off. Believe me I know, I had the fix in my ROM for the Note 2. The guy above is posting from outside the USA/T-Mobile with an Xperia lol.
Ohhh okay. So no way until someone makes a rom that can breai away from tmobile stuff?

I had used APN backup & restore on both S3 and Note 2. Hopefully, its dev will be able to setup an APN that will work with the S$.
Note - it will only work on 3/4 G, so you would loose LTE after restoring modified tethering APN, so you would have to backup the LTE APN and then restore it when you want to go back to using LTE.
There is no unlimited mobile hotspot yet, until then, you can call T-Mobile and they have free tethering for up to 500Mb until someone can unlock it for us.

As I said it's as simple as modifying a few strings in a framework apk.

Same problem without rooting
Guys,
I just bought the At&t version of S4, got an unlock code for Sim and put in the nano T-mobile sim, all was good, got 4G internet from T-mobile and made calls. Tried to turn on my hotspot feature from the phone itself because T-mobile hotspot is free up to a limit.
Was not able to turn it on, it kept going to the off position with the error "MOBILE DATA IS NOT AVAILABLE OR INVALID SIM".
Of course I had my wifi connection off and had 4G connection from T-mobile. Got off with t-mobile customer service and got their APN settings, was nothing to change.
Yet my own samsung hotspot feature doesn't turn on. I think samsung has turned off this feature in US versions of S4, so even if you root, you wouldn't be able to get hotspot on.
At least that is my two sense on this matter. IF any body knows how to rectify this issue, please help.

It's saying invalid, because the strings in the framework point to an AT&T APN. Once again.....the strings will need to be changed for this to work.
I know that this method works with any plan, because I had the android preferred (5gb no tethering for $20) and now have the truly unlimited; and the method I speak of works on both.

Can't Tether to Save My Life

I'm rooted and I've tried Wifi Tether for Root, Pdanet 3.50, 4.xx, foxfi, easytether lite and I can't get tethering going. Some of them will connect to the phone but when it comes time to pull up a page they fall flat on their face. As far as I can tell usb debugging is enabled. I'm on the Root66 rom on a t999 that I'm using a net10 at&t sim in. I just can't figure it out. Help please.
T-Mobile has a way to tell if you're tethering without paying for it. Don't know if AT&T has the same, but it could be the cause either way.
This may be something best asked in the AT&T forum since they'll know more about their policies.

I'm so done with rooting as long as tether works I'm good there is always something wrong with a rom
Wow just found this thread.
Was curious to know if this method will let sprint know we are using the hotspot?
Ive been using the app Wifi tether Router for some time now on my old phone and have had no trouble but since this seems lime a different method id like to get a positive OK before i go through with it.
Also does it have any impact on the data or SMS/MMS i recieve?
I have used this method since it came out on note 3 and 4 and this phone and have had no problems of any kind.

Just finished editing my settings in addition with removing the proxy.
Works flawless with an increase in ping, download, and upload speeds as well. Thanks everyone
