I've done some searches, here and on google, and I couldn't find anyone with the exact problem as mine, and non of the solutions I tried worked. Thanks ahead of time for reading.
Yesterday, I was running Sirius ROM on my SGH-T898 Galaxy SII, and for the first time running this ROM, my battery level reach below 15%, and a pop up message suggested I plug the phone in to charge. When I did this, I noticed for the first time that my desktop at work is not recognizing the device and saying that it malfunctioned. I didn't think much of it. Later in the day, I decided to restore my stock backup and update to ICS via Kies. Darkstar Superwipe ----> Restore backup. Once I plugged the phone into my laptop at home, I noticed again that windows in not recognizing my phone, and saying that it malfunctioned. I attempted re-installing the drivers via Kies multiple times with no success. I've tried 3-4 cables and 3 computers, still no success. I've used an electronic duster and lint remover, thinking perhaps some lint or something is preventing a connection - no luck. I've tried dialing *#7284#, and changing those settings - no luck. I've trying the usb debugging checkbox in applications/development - no luck. Now I am back to the ROM Malice (which i had before the ICS Sirius), still, with no luck of connecting to a computer. The phone charges, and works perfectly fine. I can access the files on the SD through the phone with no issues (i.e play music). The last time I could successfully connect to a computer was this past Saturday morning, and those files successfully transferred to my knowledge (I can listen to that particular album).
Guys, what could possibly be my issue!?
Thanks for your time!
Anyone?
I've tried searching for solutions to this problem, but to no avail. I've been testing new roms for a day or so and recently, when accessing my GN through MTP, I receive an error when trying to drag a rom file onto the phone. It says "Cannot copy item. The device has either stopped responding or been disconnected." I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, rebooting both computer and the phone, and using various USB ports and I'm still getting this error. What's odd is that I can drag and drop music files and even other roms, just not this particular one... I know it's not a big deal as I can just download it on the phone but I would appreciate some insight. Thanks!
do you have the same issue using the PTP interface?
It may be a cable issue or the phone connector
Hello,
All of a sudden my LG G4, Model 815 can't be recognised by computers anymore. Tried different PC's, with different OS, also have tried different cables. I have been using official cable that I found in original package and everything was working good, but now the phone only shows charging and PC's are showing popups that usb device is not recognised.
I was doing a little reasearch and already tried some simpliest things - reinstalling drivers, tried different cables, different PC's. For example my cable works fine with HTC M9, but doesn't do the thing for me anymore. And vice versa HTC cable works for HTC and does not for my LG. Also I found that you must simply select "charging" in top of your left corner and just select MTP. The problems is, that is not shown in my phone anymore. I'm thinking of trying to do factory reset, but before that maybe some of you have some thoughts? Could it be my phone hardware problem? Before a couple of days ago when everyting was working fine, I did not do anyting unusual, also that phone was never rooted, so I can't believe that it is somehow broken. I have it for nearly three months I think.
And yes, I understand that I can simply transfer my files through, for example AirAndroid of similar apps, but I cannot stand that error sounds playing on my laptop when I connect my phone through the cable to charge it.
Now it is running Android OS 6.0 (marshmallow)
LG G4 MTP Transfer Broken
Hello XDA,
I am having the exact same issue. MTP worked fine and then one day stopped. I believe it happened when I tried to transfer photos from phone to computer via USB and File Explorer. The transfer started, then after about 3 images transferred I received an error, "file transfer the system cannot find the file specified", after that the USB logo disappears, it will disappear from Device Manager, it will not even charge via USB. A phone reboot will fix the USB charging, but the option to switch to MTP is gone. I can't which it in in Developer Options either.
I've also tried all the same things LocaSnai suggested. Such as, different cords (3 of them), windows drivers, LG Air Drive, LG PC Suite, and LG Mobile Support Tool, Verizon Wireless Software Upgrade Assistant, of which none will update or repair the phone. I've also restarted Media Storage service (force stop and reboot). My Nexus 7 tablet connects perfect every time using the same 3 cables. The wife's i phone 6 also connects without issue.
I have performed a factory reset and MTP worked UNTIL I restored the LG backup. Then it went back to the same issue. Factory reset was a LG Support idea. They said that if it happened after the factory reset and back up restore, it could be a virus or issue with an app. How would we go about detecting what is wrong?
While working on this message I tired a few new things. I am able to get MTP to show up (not work as it used to) by plugging the phone into power, and then unplugging and plugging into USB. Each time, MTP will recognize (I tried all the software above when MTP shows up, none recognize the phone.) If I unplug USB and plug back into USB, MTP will not show up, only charge will. Have to plug into power then back to USB (I am using two cables, one in the brick and one in USB. Nexus 7 will work as expected with the same two cables). Some times I see the Yellow Triangle over the LG UBS entry, but following this tutorial doesn't work: www.verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-161810/ Uninstalling the driver and letting it reinstall.
My phone is as original as the day I bought it. ie not rooted or tampered with. Android is up-to-date.
Thank you in advance to the kind folks who offer assistance!

I had the same problem (at the same time I had problems with my sim and my message light was showing a dim green..), tried everything, drivers, cables, at the end a different pc and then I rebooted my phone while It was connected to the 2nd pc, after this, every problem was gone and I good see my phone again in windows. Now after a few reboots with and without the connection to a pc, the phone seems to be working as usual again...
(and My phone is also as original as the day I bought it. ie not rooted or tampered with. Android is up-to-date.)
Doorwerth, thank you for the suggestion. Tried that a few minutes ago and still have an issue.
I'm considering this next: LG G4: How to Boot into Download Mode. I think it's a bit extreme.
hi how r u ? .... im having an issue each time i connect my phone to a computer with windows 10 cant copy anything from or to the phone always getting this error message "the device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected" ...... i tried all possible solutions and suggestions available ... like
-restarting phone (several times)
-restarting computer (several times)
-installing drivers
-installing windows updates
-motorola device manager
-installing MTP porting kit
-reinstalling windows
-updating my phone to nougat
-factory resting my phone
so is there any solution for this issue ? or nothing can be done to be able to transfer data from my phone through cable?!!!
It's nothing but a problem in your Usb port try connecting your device in the back Usb port of your CPU.
After you connect did you pull down the notification shade to change from Charge only to Add files? No drivers are needed. It just shows up as a flash drive.
So.... I've been wanting to reflash my old Nexus7 for a while now. Today when I started copying files over I started getting errors about device unreachable, device malfuctioning, then windows started giving errors, then it started refusing to detect the device at all.
Now when I plug it into the computer, I don't even get an option to choose USB for charging or file transfer, and I don't get the bleep of windows detecting a connected device.
Additionally, I can't seem to boot into recovery mode anymore.
Surprisingly the OS itself still works, I see my pictures, read my books, and I was able to back up all my **** over Wi-Fi.
Any insight into what's going on? (And if fixable?)
