Best Heavy Duty Case? OtterBox Defender vs Pelican Voyager - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Accessories

Hey guys, I know some of us need heavy duty protection on our phones so I made this video comparing two of the best, most well known tough cases. Check it out if you're interested in picking one up. I didn't include UAG because I'm reserving that one to compete against Element's new entry to the Android world and I will be showcasing those in a different video....plus some may consider those more medium duty than heavy. BTW, I give away a lot of my cases to subscribers so if you'd like to be in the running for one please subscribe. YouTube channel name is TECH-FIGHTER.
https://youtu.be/Gby5o68gm8U

I had never heard of the pelican cases. Look interesting. I'm really loving the damda cases I have because they let me ditch my wallet.

I am getting a life proof case, not sure if it falls in the heavy duty class though.

[Q] Pouch or Case?

For you, what is the best to protect our Gnex? Pouch or case?
If Pouch? What do you suggest?
If choice is Case? What is the best brand?
In general now, I don't prefer pouches or 'socks' as they're called in the EU. But that's personal preference. I find that most don't offer the same amount of protection, without getting to be very bulky.
And as to cases, the absolute best IMO hands down is ALWAYS from 'Otterbox'. If you're worried about your device, put it in an Otterbox, and it will live thru almost anything you can throw at it.
Also, if you're mostly just worried about scratches...check YouTube for the "InvisibleShield" by a company called Zagg. Awesome stuff, too. There are cheaper versions from other companies, but the IS from Zagg seems to be the original...but I could be wrong about that.

I find i site called fitBAG.de, they pouch look very good, maybe i buy one for test (but has expensive price - 62 dollars).
Zagg i has used with my old Nokia N82, but is turn the phone ugly....
Otterbox is another good choice, i looked some images of this case, but i can't find where i can buy this... The official website reports that are still in development.

Samsung Cases! I think i got it!

After reading thru so many different threads and opinions I've come to the conclusion that I want a pretty sturdy case. I've come to realization that regardless of which case I'm going to get, it's going to be a bit bulky but that' because of the purpose of the case.
What I want out of a case:
1. Good protection
- having the phone on my lap, i get up, it falls and i accidently kick it (happens to me all the time, with every single phone that i've
owned, even with phones i didn't own :victory
2. I wanted a kick stand but from what everyone is saying the seidio active case attracts lint to easy and the casemate stand is too flimsy,
so i'm staying away from those. However, if someone can refer me to a stand/cradle that will be great. I don't need it to be a charging
station, I just want something that will prop it up horizontally so that I can continue to game on my PC while video conferencing with
people or watching HBOgo, I DO NOT WANT A STAND THAT WILL PROP MY PHONE IN PORTRAIT MODE.
With that being said, I've nailed it down to either the Otterbox Commuter or Ballistic SG.
Galaxy S3 dimensions are as follows
136.6mm x 70.6mm x 8.6mm
The Otterbox Commuter gives an overall dimension of
142.5mm x 78.84mm x 14.28 mm
The Ballistic SG give an overall dimension of
141.5mm x 76.5mm x 14mm
This is all based on reviews from people that go thru cases daily on youtube, or people that make money by doing this stuff and all companies send them cases to review. So with that being said, I want to pull the trigger on the Ballistic SG because it offers the same protection, looks simple enough for me (as does the otterbox), however is less bulkier of the two. Feel free to chime in with thoughts, knowledge, and opinion on these (2) cases also on any stands/cradles you guys may know of.
Thanks community.

HELP information about different cases

Hi,
I just received my HTC ONE in the mail yesterday and before I go and take the phone out for a night on the town I'd like to get
a case to protect it as best as I could. Unfortunately I'm coming from the HTC HD2 which doesn't have a lot of great cases out
for it so I'm pretty uch at a loss for what I'm looking at. Below are several possibilities of the cases. If anyone has bought any
of the below cases please share your experience. Thanks in advance.

I also seen several other threads about cases and was reading what I could about them but it was so all over the place and a lot
of the cases I have listed was not listed in the thread yet. I know some are generic but I don't mind that as long as it protects
as it should. I also plan to purchase a clear-coat screen protector so that my phone will be covered up quite well.
(I know this might be overkill but coming from someone how has broken a HTC HD2 that has gorilla class I rather be safe then sorry)
Good afternoon bump

Don't have any answers as I don't get my One until the 1st, but I have been stalking the case threads trying to make up my mind. Your list shows options I didn't know existed and makes it even more complicated for me. All of those are in the big and bulky variety that would seem to protect well while totally obscuring the beauty of the phone. Tough decision. Some of them look very cool.
One thing to watch out for is any case that covers the power button will block the infrared blaster used by the remote.
Do you have any favorite you are leaning towards?
You know being honest I was thinking of buying a couple of the generic brand that way I could change up every once in awhile. I want something that'll protect it if it gets dropped but at the same time not bulk it up so much. I know that's a bit of a contradiction. Lol.. I had a Trident case on my Mytouch 4g slide and it protected it quite well but added a lot of extra bulk. That's why I way thinking a off brand might be bulky but maybe they wouldn't use as much material as a name brand, who knows though.

Bump.
I don't want this getting lost in the clutter her on XDA. There are a lot of nice cases I posted and would love any personal info about any of them.
Sent from my ZeJstersHD2 using xda premium
IMO, case-mate tough case and the otterbox defender/commuter series are pretty tough.
All those cases look pretty tough too. You want to be looking at something with a hard shell and a soft shell (inside or outer). The main weakness of a lot of cases imo is the fact that the screen pokes out. If the case has a cover (ie; wallet types or like the defender) or a lot of overall cover that it lifts the phone above the screen, it'll do. The rest of it is aesthetics.
That's a good point that I didn't really think about. I was thinking of getting a clear-coat screen protector for the from screen then the rest keep in a nice case. All of the ones I been leaning towards are the kind with the 2 part design. Some even have 3 part but that really just means it will come with a belt clip, or so it seems. Some of these generic cases look like they would protect so nice that I might buy at least 1 just to tell how well they're built. I mean at $8-$10 the worst thing that could happen is I don't like it. I think what I'm getting at is I'm trying to just talk myself into buying something that's generic since I've always bought oem or high end cases thus far. I'll report back when I have a case in hand.

Petition for Otterbox cases

If anyone is interested in signing a petition for Otterbox to make cases for 1+1 here it is:
http://www.change.org/p/otterbox-create-cases-for-oneplus-one
This is a great way to get together all 1+1 owners that would like to have accessories made by Otterbox for their phones. Chances are slim but it costs nothing.
Spread the word around your fellow 1+1 owners about this petition. The more the merrier
Edit: Forgot to mention that this is not my petition. OP can be found here:

It's a shame only over 500,000 have been sold... Other wise it might be easier to get people to sign the petition.

It looks like there is no love for Otterbox cases here. Such a shame that as great as 1+1 is it won't have waterproof case.
Well I think the reason why is Otterbox is not a best in class product anymore. Many competitors have creeped out of the woodwork and stole their thunder. I think for most, Otterbox is way overkill, and this phone is already very large. Phones just don't need nearly as much protection as what the Defender provides, unless you are a construction worker or base jumper. Spending $50 to protect a device sold for $350? Too expensive. Id rather spend $10 and have a thinner profile, but some may disagree.
I'd put our Ultra case up against any of Otterboxs cases for drops under 4 feet, which is about the highest anyone would reasonably drop them anyways. They arent waterproof, but how important is that feature really? It's the phones that should be designed to be waterproof, not cases. Most people are not going to want a built in screen protector on their case. They look bad, and stuff gets trapped under them.
I can guarantee 100% Otterbox will not release a case for the OnePlus phones until you see OnePlus sold in USA retail stores. That is their bread and butter, brick and mortar.
Wish we could get the life proof cases.

I too prefer them over Otterbox. I tried to contact them over Twitter but so far no answer. So we have to stick together in Otterbox petition. My opinion is that 100k is impossible to reach but hope dies last.
@OneStepAhead
Otterbox is still on of few that makes waterproof cases. I think that for Android phones there are only Lifeproof and one more that I can't recall. There are people that need waterproof/dust proof case, including myself. I have S5 with Preserver series case. I upgraded it from S3 with OB Armor series case and I have to say that S5 with preserver is easier to handle with one hand. I've also had Lifeproof for my S3 and it was the best of them but it is not so easy to take the phone out of the case. So 1+1 with waterproof case with small profile like Lifeproof would still be usable, with OB Preserver maybe a little harder to operate.

Let me know if you get any answer. I would like to know what sales prediction would make them going into production. That 100k from Otterbox is unreachable. This one from RhinoShield is more down to earth limit.

Diztronic Ultra TPU Case

there is a new Diztronic case coming on Nov 18
looking very nice, not boring like the one that diztronic has right now
http://www.tpu-cases.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=104_105&products_id=418
This kinda looks boring to me. Not sure what really makes a case exciting though.
Eh.. I don't like those pronounced corners. They stick out so much.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Free mobile app
Pre-ordered one a couple weeks back. Waiting on the red.
See how the extra thickness on the corners fair in real life. Should provide that extra protection when necessary.
Use code xda to get a small discount.
Not sure about the puffed up corners. Looks like they are trying to mimic Ringke or Spigen cases to create some gap between the case and phone. Anyways, I like Diztronic and bought many cases from them. So I can tell you from experience that what you are seeing as in finish and texture is just simple renders. Actual case would feel the same like old Diztronic case . I got excited too when preordered one for Nexus 5.

I try to avoid looking at competitors cases as much as possible so im not influenced by them with our designs. I don't believe anyone else makes a TPU case like our Ultra, but I could be wrong. I have a different mindset about business then some of our competition. There is a reason why Diztronic doesn't sell 20 different styles of cases. I only release what I consider to be best in class products. If I were to make a two piece case, I'd only want to sell it if I thought it was the best two peice on the market. Honesty, I cannot make a best in class two peice, the competiton is already making excellent two pieces.
I feel very strongly that our single piece TPU cases are the very best TPU cases on the market. I think our sales and reviews reflect that, no one sells more TPU then we do or has higher review ratings. I have the mindset of do one thing and do it well. It's for this reason that going forward Diztronic will only sell TPU. I may change my mind in a year or two, but that is where Im at right now. I want to have three styles. Our basic, Ultra/Voyeur, and then a third that is currently work in progress. If it works out how I have it planned in my head, it will be as exciting as a TPU case can be, haha.
Our case doesn't mimic Spigens "air gap" marketing baloney, ours has no gap. I haven't seen what's rearths been doing for at least a year now, I thought they fell off the map. Used to see their one piece snap ons all the time but haven't seen them lately. The corners on the Ultra are very subtle, based on your guys feedback we could make them more or less pronounced in the future, but I think you will be very happy with the design. If I didn't think the Ultra was a best in class design, I wouldn't of made it

maybe need to see one in person, as they hardly stick out at all. That first shot makes them look larger maybe because of the angle. Look at the shot of the front of the phone while it's laying on its back, more true to scale. This is our higher level of protection case though, it's not meant for everyone. It is what I use on my own device though, considerably better than our standard case and in a very slightly increased size.
Anyone get theirs yet? We shipped on Monday, but black only. Red and gray should be as soon as today but for sure before weeks end.

I hope you do to. I sold my OnePlus One a month ago so I haven't personally been able to use this case yet, but it's the same design as our iPhone 6 Plus Voyeur case (which is what I'm using now) minus the window. I just love this case, but I'm likely biased
It was a hard pill to swallow buying an iPhone after using 10-15 Android phones since I owned an IPhone 3G. But man, what Apple has done with iOS these days is super impressive. Android will always be the hardware leader of course, but Google has some catching up to do to be on par with iOS 8, as much as it pains me to say it!

I have an iPhone 5c I use for work and I can barely stand it. All I see is screens of icons. I know you can make groups and whatnot and clean your screens up but the interface, in my opinion, is very simple and design wise, 5 years old. Android/Google totally owns the innovation in their OS. I tell my customers/users if you want a phone that is simple and just works, iPhone is for you. If you want choice, Android all the way. I hope you'll come back into the light soon

Thanks for your comments. Like I said in my original comment, I like Diztronic and a long time customer. Used them on a all my devices since Galaxy Nexus for a simple reason that you were among the only first few to bring out a case for that phone ... lol. Keep up the good work.
i'm keen on the red one, does anyone have any real life pictures (and not with some crappy Nexus 4 camera! ) of them (either fitted to an OPO or just sitting on a table) ?

Oh I agree the 5 is garbage. But 6 Plus on iOS 8.1 is the best phone I've ever used by a great distance. You are right, they need a launcher update, but there are many other things they are killing android on right now. Integration for one, I can and reply to sms from iPhone, iPad, iMac, MacBook. I'm not abandoning Android, I buy just about every major phone that comes out for testing purposes. If I like the Nexus 6 better, I'll keep it. I doubt I will though, as I really don't like stock Android. TouchWiz fan!

We haven't released it yet in that color,,but it's the same shade red as our regular OPO case. Many pictures floating around of that model.
Just ordered one amazon prime. Will post review when I get it.
I already have a case for my OPO, but I couldn't resist and ordered this one in gray color. Can't wait
hope it's available on amazon.ca soon!

I've been waiting anxiously and I received mine today. I had previously been using the Tudia Slim-Fit Cygen case as I tend to prefer dual layer cases. Considering that most phone drops end up hitting on the corners I looked forward to the Diztronic Ultra's bulked up corners. So far I am happy with the product and the bulked up corners and the thicker tpu. I actually wish the corners were a little bigger. I used to have a Ballistic SG case on my old Nexus 4 and I miss that level of protection but I guess that's the compromise you make when you get a Oneplus One.
That is exactly the comparison I was going to make, they aren't as pronounced as the ballistic case. Hardly protrude, just enough to do their job. I personally love this case, by far my favorite TPU case on the market. This is our 5th time trying it, and the sales numbers on past models haven't been great. I'm not giving up on it though, I almost gave up on our regular matte back cases a couple years back, but now they are the best selling TPU cases on Amazon. Sometimes it just takes a little while to get the word out and build up momentum. It's a significantly better design than our regular TPU and still thin form factor.
This design takes us a little longer to make and costs a bit more to manufacture, so the Ultra will always be released at a minimum two weeks after our regular TPU. That doesn't help sales either, as the longer you take to release the more buried the product gets in the search results. Luckily (for us, not you) on OnePlus there is very few cases anyways so this should reach the front page of amazons "OnePlus one case" search results rather quickly.

In the USA we sell on Amazon, in other countries we sell TO Amazon. Selling to Amazon is a much slower roll out as they first put up the listing and place an order for 1 measly unit. Then if it sells, they'll order more. They progressively keep ordering more based on how many sales they are getting. The problem is, not as many people are going to order it when it shows as being out of stock or "ships in 4-6 weeks". I wish they'd just order at least a couple hundred right off the bat, but amazons inventory calculations are done by a computer algorithm, not a human.

ah I see, I purchased the normal case from amazon.ca too and it said 3-4 weeks but it was shipped in 2 weeks! hehe I would buy it from the site directly or amazon.com but shipping is 7$ to Montreal :crying: so hopefully amazon.CA buys from you soon! do you think if I message them they would move their butts? or is it arbitrary

I want to get a nexus 6 ultra as well, both shipped to the UK. When will you have the that available? I saw in the n6 thread you mentioned before black friday, is that still looking true?
