My phone dropped and it cracked my screen. So I had to claimed Insurance, Fortunately they have an option of getting the Galaxy S7. $200 Fee, oh well, it is what it is. Before I leave here I wanted to give my thanks and share my favorites resources that may help some of you.

I managed to crack my screen and was going to take it in to see if I could get service on it at Sprint, and was wondering how much trouble I'm going to get for having a custom ROM and 'suspected root' on the device?
I have a doc from 4/4/11 from sprint itself that says they are supposed to service it anyway and 'counsel' me on not rooting - is this still current policy or is there a newer doc to have on-hand if I catch flak for a custom ROM?
You'll have to pay a deductible even if you have TEP. They changed things.... so they can't refuse you service for a rooted phone.

A lot of store employees are not aware of this, think they know better, or choose to ignore it.

Apparently the last time they did an in-store repair of the phone was a fluke - I got told they don't do any physical repairs at the store anymore.
Now the fun part is to file a claim and get my phone cloned and restored to the new device. $100 - yay. Half tempted to take that money and put it towards the Note I've been looking at for a while.

I was just told that my wifes screen was too cracked to repair and I had to file a claim and pay the $100. I asked what it would cost me to pay them direct to replace the screen and I was told they could not do it. Neither he nor I understood that but he said that was policy because the crack was too big. If the crack was smaller they would replace it for me.
Who knows anymore?

Precisely why tep is a waste. 100 plus the monthly fee makes no sense

I just cracked my Epic 4G screen tonite.
I love my phone, but I've been jonesing for a Note too.
I have TEP.
A Samsung Note in my neighborhood is going for $549 plus a two year contract through ATT. Better deal on EBAY, at least if I don't miss 4G too much.
Glad they are no longer prejudiced against rooted phones.
I have CleanGB 1.1.2 MTD, and my USB computer access doesn't work any more, so I signed on to see how I could best brick my poor little Epic 4G so they wouldn't notice it's rooted, since I can't connect to ODIN to return to stock.
I expect that installing a BML rom might do the job, but I'm glad I won't have to figure it out.

Sprint does service and/or rooted handsets but DOES NOT repair root devices with cracked screens where there are 3+ cracks and the length of the crack on any of them exceeds 1". There is value to their $8 or $11 TEP considering if you took advantage of a handset discount less than 20 months ago, you would be purchasing a replacement device at full retail price. I'd rather pay $100, $150 or $200 for the TEP deductible than have to pay up to $600 for full price.

Or just go on ebay and get another Epic for $99 or cheaper if you wanna game an auction for one with the saved money you DIDN'T spend on TEP all the months the phone was fine
I'm going to drop the insurance after this.

For $99 I could send my phone away for repair or buy one buy one off EBAY or Cowboom. Sprint will give me a refurbished phone for my $100 deductible. Assuming they have another Epic 4g Galaxy S in stock, the only advantage of dealing with Sprint is convenience of not having to wait for one to come in the mail.
I have a hope they will have one in stock only because it's the biggest corporate store in New York City.
Else they are all mail options for the same price with absolutely no reason to pay $7 monthly to sprint.
If I had a brand new Galaxy Note, however, then it would be worthwhile cos I see those suckers Ebay for a Grand!. It gets like gambling.

It does not matter whether you are rooted or not when making an insurance claim. You cracked your screen, you will pay $100 for a refurb through Assurion.
There will be NO more talk of frauding Sprint.

Hi all,
I am not a sprint customer and would like to get a galaxy note 2 L900 serviced. The display keeps flickering pretty badly, looks like the digitizer is on the way out.
How do I go about contacting Spring or Samsung for this kind of repair? Anyone can detail contacts/process?
Thanks!

Forget about Sprint in that case. Contact mobiletechvideos.com. They likely offer a faster and cheaper alternative than Samsung. They did a great job repairing the power button on my E4GT.
Sprint wont honor warranty within 1 year for non-customers?
Anyone remember part of the pre-order offer where one of the things we got was a once a year free screen replacement? I distinctly remember this being part of the pre-order offer, yet I am having a hard time finding this info online. I AM finding info that there was going to be such an offer - this was in the various media articles telling us what the pre-order offers would be. But I can't find anywhere where someone has actually used this service which was supposed to be there if you preordered either the S8 or S8+ (I actually got both).
Yes, I dropped my phone and for the first time in about 4 years I have a device with a broken screen. It hit on the bottom of the curved edge on the right side - the absolute worst place to hit, on the curved edge. I had it in a pretty stout case, full wrap around flip cover case that covered the entire display, front back and sides. Still wasn't enough and the fall was about 3'....
Anyway, I contacted Samsung and they seem to acknowledge that there was such an offering, but that it was through Verizon and I needed to contact them. I contacted Verizon, and they also seemed to acknowledge that there was such a pre-order offer, but that I needed to go into a Verizon location to get it taken care of. I emailed copies of both chat sessions to myself just in case.
I feel that in the Verizon chat session the person was trying fairly hard not to come right out and say my phone would be covered for such a replacement (I realize they would probably just send a refurb instead of fix my S8+) phone. I do have assurian through VZ, but the deductible of $150 bites. So if anyone else can chime in that has used this once a year free display replacement and/or give further info/evidence that I can bring in to VZ when I visit them today that would be a GREAT help!
TIA!
I don't remember anything specific to screen replacement for the S8 preorder, although I believe you got one free month of Samsung premium care, which is pretty much insurance through samsung with a deductible and all (I believe the actual servicer of it is also Asurant). It is also possible that you are mixing Samsung up with other phones, as I believe HTC had the program you are mentioning.
Either way let us know how it goes.
Thanks for the reply!
I am not mixing this up for offers on other phones. First of all, I have not looked into pre ordering any other phones, ever, except for the Note 7 and the S8+. I did talk to a VZ rep on the phone in person before pre-ordering, and they told me about that added benefit of the once a year display replacement with the pre-order offer and gave me a web link where I then also saw the offer (that pre-order web link is long gone, I have looked for it). It was actually this part of the pre-order offer that made me pull the trigger - getting a free display replacement once a year. I am simply trying to have my ducks in a row before I go in to a VZ store to get this handled as they will likely try to make me use my insurance (which is ridiculously overpriced) and the $150 deductible to boot. And yes, I am aware of the one month free of samsung premium care, this was a different coverage than samsung premium care.
I will update how this goes once I go in to a VZ store. Was going to go today but don't have all the info in hand that I want to have when I go in.
Thanks again for your reply!
Update - neither VZ nor Samsung would honor the pre order offer. Samsung DID acknowledge that it was part of the pre order offer but said the carrier has to honor it, not Samsung. Seems wrong, but I am tired of haggling over it. So I did the Asurion warranty replacement routine - but of course the S8+ is out of stock.... good thing my phone still works!
On a side note, I went ahead and pre ordered the Note 8. Since I was a Note 7 owner (still am actually) I took advantage of the $425 discount off the total for the Note 8. I got the 256gb micro SD and wireless charging dock bundle as my pre order gift. So the Note 8 will cost me $535 on a 24 month zero interest payment plan. I also signed up for Samsung premium care. It is a couple dollars more a month than Asurion, but overall I feel it is a better insurance coverage. The first two months are free with the pre order also.
I know Samsung has the $425 offer for Note 7 owners to trade in their Note 5, iPhone 7, etc. for a Note 8. Question I have is that, can we "trade-in" our Note 7's for a Note 8? I still have one that I currently use for music and smart home stuff and would love to replace it with a Note 8. Thanks.
I just did mine today.
Total refund. Note 8 cost me $70 + the Tax on the Note 8, about $130 out the door.
The ATT folks couldn't figure out how I was still using it! Heh Heh! Good times...
I called the ATT store first yesterday, They tried the $425 trade in deal, I said no, no, no, kinda like I was refusing to go to rehab. I made sure I was talking to the store manager of a real ATT store. He basically stood his ground, I told them they owed me the full refund afforded everybody else.
So I then called 611, and was talking to them when the store manager called me back. He said bring it in and I'd get full refund for it. I guess he checked with someone else.
Make sure you lem know that the phone is on recall by the Consumer Protection Agency, and the public utilities commission, outlawed by the FAA, and disavowed by the KKK...
Don't take no for an answer. They owe ya.

I would look into it. You folks have more protections than we do.
The first manager told me no on the phone and I made sure that the phone was recalled, outlawed on Flights etc. He called me back and said OK. I was actually on the phone with AT&T escalating the issue when he called me. I was very surprised. It was nerve racking hanging onto it all those months because I didn't know if I would be successful or not with the exchange when it came time.
in UK it does not work, they finished recall 15 days after note 8 has been announced

So i just went into the sprint store earlier this week and discovered ive had my s6 for two years now (which btw is amazing, since it runs like its brand new. Probably with the help of @tdhite's lovely work)
What that meant for me, is that my lease with Sprint is "over"... Which just means that, i have three options:
1. Pay the rest of the total, about $200, to buy the phone.
2. Keep paying the "lease"... But that does NOT count towards the $200 buyout price... This is in contrast to sprints new lease program called Flex, where if you keep paying it DOES count towards the buyout price.
3. Return the phone and get a new phone. And since I've had this phone for two years, I'm being offered a "loyalty credit" which means they take like 33% off the lease price of a galaxy s8, s8+, or note 8. Im not sure how this will change once the s9 is released.
I knew these terms when i got the phone, but since two years have passed, i just forgot.
I say all this because i figure most owners of the Sprint Galaxy s6 are in the same boat, since the Flex program wasn't available for the s6. And i wanted to warn anyone who may have forgotten the terms, like i did.
Also, i was curious about people who do know about this, and what your plans are to reconcile your lack of ownership if your device

I ran into the same issue until I realized another option. My lease was up but still love my s6. Wife wanted to upgrade so I elected to get the upgrade to the s8 for her and keep my phone. I was then allowed to buy my s6 for $57 instead of the $200. I did a similar thing with the S5, contract said 200 but if I upgraded and wished to keep my old phone I could buy the s5 for $20 instead of $200.

Exactly, my biggest problem with all this is I still like my s6 and feature-wise, i prefer it over the s8. Although the battery life of the s8 would be nice...
But at the same time, i don't think I'm that attached to it to want to spend another $200, I'll want to upgrade soon... I'm just not ready yet.
That's very interesting that if you upgrade the purchase price of the s6 goes down! Thank you for that. I'll definitely do that then, and probably see if i can sell it for something, since everyone else on my plan has already recently upgraded and i don't need two phones lol.
