My Google Pixel was originally purchased from Verizon, but now I'm using it under T-Mobile. It's on 7.1.1 NOF27B. Is this adequate enough to unlock the bootloader and root it?

No. That phone most likely will never be unlockable.

I know that it isn't unlocked yet but will it get unlocked? I usually order international ones because they are unlocked easy. Will this be the same?

Is there any hardware differences the playstore XL and the VZW one (other than software). So if I wanted to take this phone to another carrier just like the one sold on the playstore.
I have a play store version and a Verizon SIM card/service. My phone upgraded its firmware to NDE63X after installing sim card. That is the Verizon firmware. It didn't install any Verizon logos or software, just that firmware version. So I would say since the phone would take that firmware it is only a software difference not hardware.

Thanks for the reply. I wonder how it would work the other way now. If the devices from VZW can support all other carriers (radio wise).

http://willmyphonework.net while probably not the absolute authority, this site makes no distinction between the different models of Pixel XL phones. It says it will work on most 4g networks in Europe. I was looking into because I might go to Iceland soon.

I bought my pixel XL full retail. Can I get Verizon to unlock my bootloader? I am still on 7.1 so if not I can still unlock the other method. I was just wondering

Verizon will not unlock your bootloader. Never. Ever.

If it is unlockable I'm ditching my x pure for this.

That's the only thing holding me back from pulling the trigger and getting this over the pixel 2

Even though it is purchased from Motorola, it is just as if you purchased it from a VZW store.
Has anyone gotten the Pixel 2 XL from Best Buy or Target at full price without the VZW bloatware? Is it like the Pixel 1 where I can just not put in the SIM?

Got mine from Verizon. There is nothing from Verizon on here. Using it and everything is working on T-Mobile.

Wait, so I could have bought from VZW, gotten trade in bonus on current phone, and then taken to TMo for $325 more off? Doh.
Only 3 bloat apps..
Go90
Messages+
My Verizon
All 3 can be uninstalled.

I guess that could have worked. I don't have Verizon service. So I just put my TMO SIM in and start using it.

For now yes..I honestly think Verizon did something. I've seen multiple on swappa with the box still taped. Mine was not. The demo one also had it not grayed out the first day. When I went back it was.

I bought my pixel xl last year from the Google store unlocked and just popped my verizon some from my nexus 6p in it with no issues and did the same with my pixel 2 xl with no issues.

If you still have not set it all up, and used a Verizon sim try a factory reset.

If you purchased it from Verizon the bootloader is locked. It will always be greyed out. The Google store version is unlockable.
