[Q] Defy hangs on boot

Hi,
after installing cm7.1.0-RC1.5 and rebooting, I see Google (logo) on my display but nothing happens (waited for more than 20 minutes). The power switch does not work and I am also not able to access the boot menu by pressing the volume button. If I remove the battery and insert it again, I immediately see the Google logo again - as before I am not able to interact with the phone. Please I need help - hope I haven't ruined it.
Thank you
put off your battery, then charge your defy without battery.. after battery logo with question mark come out, put again your battery.. unplug your charger and you should able to access bootloader or motorola recovery... cmiiww
Thanks for helping, but this does not work. After seeing the battery on display and inserting it, it still hangs only showing the Google logo. I am not able to enter the recovery menu.

You Have two choices.
1. Either you open up the devices and solder the power buttons connectors together so that as soon as you insert the battery it boots.
2. If you are rooted and have flashed a custom recovery, you could connect the device to ur computer and wait for the charging lights to come on and then type this in adb.
Code:
adb devices
Once your device shows up, type
Code:
adb reboot
And you are up and running.
Easiest way...

I assume your Power Button not working or Any other Scenario,Soldering Power Button doesn't digest properly to me,but yeah 2nd method is good enough, but you need computer to do so.
But even then you are not satisfy than here's a simplest method to boot your device without Pressing Power Button,i know it Because i've been pass through this situation.
I assume Your Phone is switched off Or ran out of battery but doesn't boot automatically like it suppose to do so.
Method: Take Out Battery Cover,Plug your device into Charge,Shake lil bit gently,Next thing you'll notice it will vibrate means it's Powered ON,Now put back Battery Cover, you don't need to Press Power Button Anymore.
Simply Follow Steps....Everytime you feel so.:highfive:

Brick Due to Dirty_File_Record?

Well, I was in /system and saw that file. I clicked on it, and all I saw was "hosts" repeated quite a few times (added to /system by AdAway), and a couple ringtones I moved there.
So I thought I'd clean it out, and I deleted it's contents. Now my phone won't boot. I've randomly gotten it to the Google screen, but it goes black before the boot animation. No recovery, no fastboot, nothing. PC makes a sound when I connect it, but adb can't see it.
Really at a loss here guys. I've put this thing in a state like this multiple times, and by some miracle or another I've fixed it. Don't see too much hope.
Thanks in advance if anyone has any ideas!

That was your ad blocker host file. That is why your phone won't boot. Unplug phone. Turn on, i don't care if its boot looping just make sure it is on, hold vol up and power for 11 seconds "screen will turn off" let go of both, hold vol down and power to enter boot loader. load recovery and flash new rom or backup. Never delete anything pre sdcard unless you know what you are doing. That is why you don't have access to it without root.

The adaway hosts file is actually in a different location, /system/etc.
I'll try your tip and see if it works! Thanks!
Edit: It did work! I was able to get into the recovery. I'm about to take off on a plane right now, so when I'm in the air I'll get my laptop out and give it a go.
I'm gonna keep note of that trick though. Would've saved me a few times!
Thanks again so much for your help
Also, I believe the problem was that files related to the boot animation are stored there (found that out later). I'm first gonna try flashing a bootanimation.zip I have before restoring.
I'm likely wrong about that, but I'll give it a shot.

Hi lineu, Thank you so much. I'm trying the 2nd method which you advised as dont have access to bootloader itself.
during this step, when using xFSTK Downloader 1.7.0, in download status i can see
"Details: BATI:42415449: Batter voltage: 0x45(1294.760000V) The threshold: 0xbf(3.585000V)" and progress bar shows only 8% for a longer time. am i missing something.
My phone is in dead state, i cannot even see charging icon in the screen. Appreciate your help on this. Please help. Attaching the screenshot for your reference.
I think that error is because the battery go to 0%, any chance to extract it and charge manually? With that process u recover the bootloader and later u can use the Asus flash ttools
Or try again the procedure (u can see if the windows device manager recognize the morefield driver when u connect the phone)
how to charge battery manually? as when i connect to the charger it is not getting charge.

Android car stuck in boot animation

On my car android head unit i changed boot animation in wrong resolution and now its stuck in there. Couldn't load the system any further. I tried to bring recovery mode. It has reset and power button only. Tried some of the key combinations but it didn't work. Pressing power + reset for 5 sec and releasing reset while still pressing power button for next 5 sec, it went into different screen for short time showing,
'Start update and End update' screen
then stuck back to same boot animation screen.
I tried adb also but usb debugging is turned off so couldn't succeed. I changed the boot animation from built in system software.
I have copied this bootanimation.zip file on internal storage, not in any folder. So if i could delete this file with factory reset or anyhow it might solve the problem.
Please any suggestions or solution will be really helpful.
