(this is the only way we have now to upgrade the hboot.img, bct.img, rcdata.img, etc...)
Method 1
Install stock rom of your CID
-fastboot oem readcid (to know your CID)
-all roms are based on x.xx.401.xx , so you need to download the right RUU(that matches your CID) and extract rom.zip to cook a stock rom for you
-flash custom stock rom(extracted and cooked from right RUU) on custom recovery
-fastboot flash boot c:\boot.img (flash stock kernel that's inside custom stock rom boot.img file)
RElock the bootloader (you can allways unlock)
-fastboot oem lock
Right RUU file for your CID
-put your phone on fastboot (it will not boot because you have a custom rom on a locked bootloader)
-now you can run the RUU exe file and upgrade your phone
Method 2
Extract the rom.zip from RUU of your CID (google how extract ruu.exe)
-fastboot oem readcid (to know your CID)
Extract boot.img, system.img, signed_recovery.img from rom.zip
Flash
-fastboot flash recovery signed_recovery.img
-fastboot flash boot boot.img
-fastboot flash system system.img
-fastboot erase cache
-fastboot oem lock
Power on the phone
Run the RUU exe file (of your CID) and upgrade your phone
Method 3 (like Method 2, but we dont need to flash the system) (thanks to EddyOS)
Extract the rom.zip from RUU of your CID (google how extract ruu.exe)
-fastboot oem readcid (to know your CID)
Extract boot.img, signed_recovery.img from rom.zip
Flash
-fastboot flash recovery signed_recovery.img
-fastboot flash boot boot.img
-fastboot oem lock
Run the RUU exe file (of your CID) in fastboot mode

i have made a stock rom for VODAP001 (x.xx.161.xx)
i can share it
Sometimes when you have a custom rom, you can not update your stock ruu for signature problems (difference between boot, hboot, recovery versions), try to include the TUT to flash the stock RUU and then your TUT

thats why you need to flash a stock custom rom, on recovery first, to avoid signature problems (the same rom from the right RUU)
Tell me, why should be this way the only way to get the updates? Yesterday i tried it, like its written here and all went okay. The only correction to do is in point 2: fastboot erase cache
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1609190
Flash a ROM and boot image based on 1.26 (e.g ARHD 2.1)
Clear fastboot cache Code:
fastboot clear cache
Boot your phone
Charge you phone completely
Download stock recovery
Flash stock recovery Code:
fastboot flash recovery endeavoru_recovery_signed.img
Relock bootloader Code:
fastboot oem lock
Run 1.26 RUU

whats your CID ? and what RUU file did you run ?
i think the rom on the phone must be from the same CID of the RUU, but dont have sure. (only applies to non super CID phones)
That´s right. The CID is inside the device and the RUU has to be the same. But custom roms don´t change the cid, because for this you must have S-Off. At this time the original cid will not be replaced by another. But in the old method all runs well.
I have an o2 device, cid is O2___102, this was never changed by any custom rom.

EXACTLY .... the ARHD 2.1 is base on x.xx.401.xx ?
401 is RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_HTC_Europe
so i dont understand how your method worked for you....
you should use a rom base from a O2-DE O2___102 RUU
because a rom base on on x.xx.401.xx didnt work for me (my CID VODA-UK VODAP001)
Hello, my cid is HTC-India HTC__038, how can i install european 1.29 RUU ?
Thanks!
HI
Firstly thanks for all the effort you put in around the forum, ive read quite a few of your posts.
I notice youve done a custom Vode rom, is there any chance of doing a H3G__001, im on the 3 network and would like to be able to flash the latest H3G rom if i ever want to go stock again, obviously being an unlocked Orange phone it wont let me, or if you arent able too, time concerned and stuff which i understand, could you point me in the direction of where i could find the info needed on whats involved.
Many Thanks.
I already tried to flash rom.zip from
RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_hTC_Asia_TW_1.29.709.7_Radio_1.1204.104.14_release_259284_signed
and
RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_HTC_Europe_1.29.401.7_Radio_1.1204.104.14_release_259281_signed
both i got
E: Can't open /sdcard/rom.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.
Any ideas?

You don't flash the ROM.zip from the RUU in CWM - you have to rename it PJ46IMG.zip and flash it from HBOOT

Well, i installed RUU hTC_Asia_India_1.26.720.2, then updated by OTA to 1.28.720.10, then flashed CWM recovery, then flashed root.
Yes, bootloader is unlocked.
PS: adicionei você no gtalk!
1. Make sure you already have TWRP installed.
Recommended:
TWRP 2.8.1.0 for 1.xx.xxx.x & 2.xx.xxx.x TWRP backup
TWRP 2.8.3.0 for 3.xx.xxx.x TWRP backup
TWRP 2.8.4.0 or 2.8.5.0 or 2.8.6.0 and highly recommended 2.8.7.0 or latest for 4.xx.xxx.x & 6.xx.xxx.x TWRP backup
Install TWRP 2.8.1.0 -
command fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.1.0-m8.img
Install TWRP 2.8.3.0 -
command fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.3.0-m8.img
Install TWRP 2.8.4.0 -
command fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.4.0-m8.img
Install TWRP 2.8.5.0 -
command fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.5.0-m8.img
Install TWRP 2.8.6.0 -
command fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.6.0-m8.img
Install TWRP 2.8.7.0 -
command fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.7.0-m8.img
The basic idea is : fastboot flash recovery NameOfRecovery.img
Download TWRP - https://twrp.me/htc/htconem8gsm.html
2. Download TWRP backup - link in post #2 (for KitKat & Lollipop) and post #3 (for Marshmallow)
3. Download stock recovery - link in post #4
4. Extract the downloaded x.xx.xxx.x_ckpv5.zip on PC
5. Boot to TWRP recovery and make a backup of boot only, this is to see where the backup goes on your device.
6(a). Reboot, connect device to PC then
open Internal Storage - TWRP/BACKUPS/SerialNo./ (if backup is set to internal storage)
open SD Card - TWRP/BACKUPS/SerialNo./ (if backup is set to MicroSD)
6(b). For those with no OS, connect device to PC. In TWRP recovery go to mount, make sure MTP is enabled.
Then you can open Internal Storage - TWRP/BACKUPS/SerialNo./ (if backup is set to internal storage)
7. Transfer the extracted x.xx.xxx.x folder (not x.xx.xxx.x_ckpv5 folder) and its content to the backup path on your device, so it looks like this :
TWRP/BACKUPS/SerialNo./x.xx.xxx.x
8. Reboot to TWRP, wipe your device - in TWRP go to wipe - advance - select dalvik cache, cache, data, system (only these)
9. Restore the transferred backup - make sure all boot, data & system are ticked - swipe to restore
10. In reboot menu select bootloader (when TWRP asks whether you want to root your device, select do not install)
11. fastboot flash stock recovery that you downloaded - command fastboot flash recovery x.xxx.xx.x_recovery.img
12. reboot - check for OTA, download, install
13. you may have multiple OTA when your device currently on a lower version
14. done
If you want to flash TWRP again, use the latest TWRP after last OTA
NOTE : There is no need to relock bootloader when doing the nandroid way to revert to stock and do OTA.
My TWRP backup collections I
hboot 3.16.0000 - 1.xx.xxx.x

For those who need the signed firmware, below are the Marshmallow firmware that I have :
Important : If you're flashing this Marshmallow firmware on top of a lollipop and there are two Marshmallow versions,
install the first version then follow by the second version.
Don't install directly the second version as it is only partial firmware (except fw_6.20.709.2);
without the first version is installed prior to the second version your device firmware won't be correctly updated

How to install firmware :
1. You need the drivers : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=64926362&postcount=4
2. If the bootloader is UNLOCKED (for S-On device only), relock it with commands:
fastboot oem lock
fastboot reboot-bootloader
If the bootloader is LOCKED, skip the above.
3. Download the official signed fw_x.xx.xxx.x.zip
4. Put the device in bootloader/fastboot mode and connect to PC, run these commands
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip fw_x.xx.xxx.x.zip
you'll see ERROR/FAILED, repeat
fastboot flash zip fw_x.xx.xxx.x.zip
fastboot reboot-bootloader
then you can proceed the next step that you need to do like installing a RUU
or fastboot reboot (to directly reboot device if you already have a working OS)
Note : unlocking bootloader will wipe your internal storage, copy your files like photos, music & etc to PC first
I would like to request a backup from 3.29.166.9 or 4.19.166.2

Questions on Stock Restore HTC M8
Friends,
It has been ages since I have flashed a new rom, performed a nanoandroid restore so will need a little
help.
Currently, my HTC M8 device is rooted with s-on. I am running the MIUI V5 rom since last August. Now, I would like to return back to stock and grab all the updates for the OTA etc. Right now, I am running twerp 2.7.0.2 on my phone.
T-Mobile USA
Status: S-ON/Unlocked
HBOOT 3.18.0.0000
RADIO: 1.19.213311491.03G
So here are my questions?
1. If I perform a nano-restore to stock does this mean that the root is lost? Not that it matters I can just re-root after the OTA etc..
2. Reading this thread honestly intimidated by all these versions to choose from for returning to stock. Not sure what to go by?
3. Last but not least, will this break my recovery mode when I perform the nanoandroid restore back to stock?
I don't mind paying a few dollars and having someone give me a hand with this that *knows* the art of flashing and not bricking.
My goal is go back to stock, updates with the OTA etc.. Re-root and try a rom like sky dragon, viper and see if I want to go into that direction.
Please advise and Thank You

My goal is go back to stock, updates with the OTA etc.. Re-root and try a rom like sky dragon, viper and see if I want to go into that direction.
Please advise and Thank You

You have a T-MOB US device .. the best thread for all your needed files either stock backups and RUUs are here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2714456
My advise is don't use that outdated TWRP 2.7.0.2 but use the updated ones like 2.8.3.0 and newer.
1. Basically - yes, you'll lose root when the nandroid backup is pure unrooted stock.
2. I don't list the backup for your version here - because the correct one for your device is there in link that I mentioned above.
3. TWRP Nandroid will not replace your current recovery. You need to manually flash the recovery image.
I don't mind to walk you through the process but unfortunately I don't have time at the moment as I'm busy with my vacation preparation.
For everyone - I will be away on holiday from 8/5 to 18/5 - so any request or question I will reply when I'm back from holiday.

Not sure which one that I need for my device? Please let me know the name of the file or the link I should grab for this stock recovery. There are so many it's just confusting
Last but not least, can I flash the stock rom in TWRP or RUU?
Please advise

You need to find the stock recovery that corresponds to the stock ROM for your CID.

The whole point of the instructions in the first post is to tell you how to restore the stock nandroid.
When a nandroid backup is restored, do I need to flash boot.img?
I'm refering to this post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60937883&postcount=5509
"For stock stock stock all...
Flash stock nandroid backup
Flash boot img stock
Flash stock recovery

Thank you.

When a nandroid backup is restored and boot is selected then there is no need to separately flash boot.img
Follow all steps in post #1 (see step #9 for your question)
and there is no need to relock bootloader

4.16.1540.8 - http://dl3.htc.com/application/RUU_...G_20.68.4196.01_F_release_411207_signed_2.exe
then you can do OTA to Marshmallow 6.12.1540.4
Thanks,
even if I have cid = 11111111 ?
Yes - 11111111 or SuperCID is a universal CID, RUU/OTA will accept that.
You need to relock bootloader before you run RUU because your device now is S-On
and you need a Windows PC with USB2.0 and latest HTC USB driver installed.
If you're not sure about HTC USB driver - download HTC Sync Manager - http://www.htc.com/us/support/software/htc-sync-manager.aspx
install then after uninstall HTC Sync Manager but leave the HTC USB driver

and another questions to be sure:
1) I get the device with 4.16.1540.8 installed , why i need to install it again ?
2) my device is s-on , does it affects on updates with supercid ?
1. I don't know why - you asked for the RUU so I gave you the link. You should know better whether you need it or not.
2. No .. as long as the ROM in your system now is non-rooted (never rooted) and stock recovery is installed .. should be fine.
If you're not sure then run the RUU then do OTA. Before that you can try to update and see whether it will success or fail.
Settings - about - software update.

Your getvar doesn't show any irregularity.
I updated my M8 also on same CID 11111111 and MID 0P6B12000
So I have no idea .. I first helped because you asked for RUU.
Lets wait if anyone else will come to help for other problem
@redpoint73 - if you are around .. maybe you can help to confirm whether this device is AT&T or Developer Edition.
I have a feeling this is an AT&T converted to DEV ED and re S-On
@tapuz12ewq
Another possibility is your device is a AT&T originally .. you also can install RUU for AT&T, only thing is there is no Marshmallow update yet for AT&T - you can get the RUU 4.28.502.2 here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2751432

Thanks,
so I little bit confused , to fix it , which RUU are safe to install , 4.28.502.2 or 6.12.1540.4 ?
6.12.1540.4 definitely won't work, you'll get error 155 unless HTC already fix the RUU.
You can only try either 4.16.1540.8 or 4.28.502.2 and I'm not so sure whether installing 4.28.502.2 will success or not because your current version is 4.16.1540.8
another RUU that you can try is 4.17.1540.9 - http://dl3.htc.com/application/RUU_...G_20.68.4196.01_F_release_446501_signed_2.exe
Or ... S-Off the device with SunShine app (USD25) then you can fix it with any RUU.
I got to rest now ... it's 3 AM here ... good luck

That's stock recovery for lollipop.
LRX22C - Android 5.0.1
LRX22G - Android 5.0.2
So which of the RUU that your tried ? I have a feeling that both will fail unless the device is S-Off again. The previous owner shouldn't change the S-Off status unless he put all the correct CID/MID to the device.
Maybe it needs the actual CID BS_US001 instead of 11111111 to get the OTA, personally I never have any problem with 11111111

how can I install the next update ?
It's weird that the RUU can be successfully installed but not OTA.
So .. you can try this to install next RUU 6.12.1540.4
1. Download the 6.12.1540.4 firmware - https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4jGj3SfskzMbzBtd1R1VHlmbVU/view?usp=sharing
2. Download the 6.12.1540.4 RUU if you still don't have it - http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8/news/
3. place the firmware.zip that you downloaded in your fastboot folder then open command prompt from your fastboot folder
4.Put your device to bootloader/fastboot mode
Run below commands:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
You'll see -
if failed : FAILED (remote: 90 hboot pre-update! please flush image again immediately)
repeat fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
fastboot reboot-bootloader
5. Run 6.14.1540.4 RUU
6. Done

can I instead move from s-on to s - off with the sunshine app, maybe after that i will get the OTA ?
Yes .. that's a wise move to S-Off then you can change the CID to BS_US001 then you should be able to install OTA whenever it is available.
Also note, this 6.12.1540.4 maybe the last major update as the HTC support for major update end by March or April 2016.

BS_US001 also will keep my phone sim free ?
what about MID ?
Your phone is already SIM unlocked.
Change of CID has no effect on it.
No need to change MID as that's the Developer Ed MID

Greetings,
Would appreciate any help/direction. It's been a while since I bought a new phone to mess with, even longer since it was GSM.
Picked up a new unlocked HTC10, I want to get it updated to Oreo firmware and ready to go for US Carrier Ting (well, T-Mobile). Will probably run Leedroid's ROM, but may test others.
I have done HTCDev unlock and installed TWRP, what's next to get Oreo Firmware before flashing ROMs?
I'm also guessing I'll need to change the CID, and maybe the MID.

I thought it was S-OFF (i know it says S-ON in your info though) because supercid like you have can only be written with S-OFF.
Try the ruu without changing the CID but it may fail due to incompatible CID. If that is so run the S-OFF sunshine tool just for fun to see if it has been used.

Hi all,
Trying to return this phone to stock to use since my HTC 10 is playing up and not sure what to buy as a replacement, yet.
Anyway, it's soft bricked and unable to flash the RUU as it gives a Failed (remote: 22) error.
I believe it's because it has updated hboot and it can now no longer read the encrypted rom. To fix it I (think) need a ORANG001 OTA to flash. I have tried a Europe one but that fails.
Anyone know where I can get one?
Or how would I get SuperCID so I can flash any?
My knowledge falls down here so any help would be great

Hello,
I think you have to:
- Unlock and S-OFF again your bootloader
- Try to downgrade it
- Flash ORANG001 CID through fastboot command prompt
- Flash through official RUU (or install the 0P6BIMG.zip that you can find inside from the bootloader)
- Maybe relock the bootloader if you want
You can take a look at this post for giving you an idea on how to downgrade (be careful that proposed ROMs are for Verizon M8 and won't work for yours):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one-m8/general/official-ruu1-55-605-2-t2883845
Hi John, I don't think we can S-OFF the M8s. It's not the same as the M8.
