Galaxy S7 VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling - LineageOS Questions & Answers

As the title suggests I would like to know if they are currently supported or planned for future?
Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

Hi,
i'm using LineageOS on S7 and there is no option to enable it. They describing something here https://www.reddit.com/r/LineageOS/comments/648w4v/where_is_the_volte_switch_in_lineage/ but on the S7 you don't have this option.

I would say that you'll have to flash your mobile operator's branded modem to get volte in your network.
I may be wrong, tho. I do have the same phone as you do and I also miss volte. Wifi-calls are enabled, on other hand.
I also do have some issues with Wireless, which gives me slightly lesser signal reception and drops very often.

Switching Between H and LTE

When I got my Nexus 5 back in 2013 I noticed that if I was on LTE and made/received a call the data would switch to H and then switch back to LTE after the call was ended. My Nexus 5X does the same thing. What's the deal? Before I had the Nexus 5 I had a Galaxy SII Skyrocket(the LTE version of the Galaxy SII from AT&T) and that phone would stay on LTE during calls and that was from an early LTE phone (the first AT&T offered). I would expect the same from a current phone in 2015.

Nope. I don't have that option. I'm on AT&T. That's really strange that you Nexus 5X has that and mine doesn't. Kind of strange that yours has software differences. Did you buy your phone directly from Google?

Phone is directly from google and this is the current build #MDB08L. If you have anyone with T-Mobile sim, try it.

It currently says "TURN OFF VOLTE PROVISIONED FLAG" so I'm guessing it's currently on. However I'm not sure what this has to do with anything. VoLTE means "voice over LTE". I'm not even trying to do voice over LTE. I'm just trying to use LTE for regular data while on a call over regular GSM.

That is exactly the case if you want to stay on LTE while on a call, then it is called VoLTE(Voice over LTE). Your setting for that seems to be on...
Things to try, unless Nexus 5X on AT&T is unable to do VoLTE, ask AT&T.
Test with T-Mobile sim
Check APN settings
Check to see if your sim card is old

Everything I've seen says that VoLTE means that the LTE data connection is used to actually make phone calls instead of the traditional cell voice network(GSM/CDMA). I don't care about that. I'm fine with regular phone calls using the regular GSM voice connection. I just want to be able to use the LTE connection for things like browsing while I'm on a regular phone call.
Good to know that it isn't an issue with the phone. I guess it might be an AT&T network issue but that would be strange since it worked with my old Galaxy S II Skyrocket that I bought in 2011. Maybe a compatibility issue between AT&T and this phone? I'll see if I can test with someones T-Mobile SIM. My SIM card is only a month old since I had to get a Nano SIM when switching from my Nexus 5(which took a Micro SIM).
The only way you will be able to use LTE to browse the internet while on a call is if you are placing the call using VoLTE. Before VoLTE (and currently if you don't have it) your phone will always drop to a non LTE connection.
I'm sorry but that's just the way it has been and the way it is. Every device that doesn't use VoLTE will change to a different non LTE signal to place the call.
AFAIK, VoLTE on our device does not seem to be supported on the "gsm" carriers.. Yet.
Maybe try out the Network app? It allows you to specify a network preference and do a bit of fine-tuning.

That might be the case with the Nexus 5 and Nexus 5X but it was absolutely not the case with my old Galaxy SII Skyrocket. Kind of strange that the Nexus 5 and Nexus 5X have this issue. Seems kind of strange to me that the LTE radio would have to be turned off just because you are making a non-VoLTE call.

This is the case with all devices that are not using the VoLTE service.
There is no other way, unless of course you are using a VoIP service or hangouts to place your calls.

I didn't realize VoLTE was a feature of phones in 2011. I'm wondering if maybe AT&T stopped supporting it on its network? Oh well, thanks for the info. I didn't realize a phone had to be able to make calls over LTE to be able to use LTE data while on a call. It's also surprising considering how Verizon does simultaneous voice and data. Once Verizon started supporting LTE phones(several years ago) you could do simultaneous voice and data but it wasn't(at least at that time) using LTE for voice calls. Just for data while a CDMA call was active. I guess it works differently for GSM?

Just to clarify, I'm not trying to make a voice call using LTE(which is what "Voice over LTE" means). Just trying to use LTE data while on a non-LTE voice call.

In any case in order to stay on LTE and use data, your phone has to support VoLTE, because normal LTE is data only and when you make a call it would drop to 3 or 4G. CDMA and GSM are 2 different type of networks. I was always using GSM providers(T-Mobile in my case) and this is how it works. I don't know how your old phone could let you be on LTE during a call - unless AT&T was using some proprietary service.

Yeah, if that's how LTE data works then AT&T must have had something special.

Early on, phones had a separate 3G radio from their LTE radio. This is a big part of why the first LTE phones had substantial battery drain issues compared to 3G only phones at the same time. One of the nice things about the setup was that you could use 3G for voice and LTE for data simultaneously. With the move to integrated modems, which significantly improved battery life and speed, that feature was lost. Until AT&T implements a standard for VOLTE like T-Mobile has you're going to have to deal with the lower speeds while on a call.

OK that explains it. The Galaxy S2 Skyrocket was the first AT&T LTE phone so it probably had separate radios. I'm also kind of concerned with what VoLTE will do to battery life. I remember that one of the ways phone matters were reducing battery drain was to keep the radio asleep unless it was asleep. With VoLTE the LTE radio would have to be active all the time. Has the energy efficiency of newer LTE radios made that a non-issue? How is battery life on T-Mobile vs AT&T using the same phone under similar conditions?

Flashing from 4g+ to lte

Is it just a bug that when the phone accesses data it constantly flaahes real quick from 4g+ to lte?

Maybe it is some kind of a bug, as I'm seeing that also and I'm on T-Mobile. I do have the option for VoLTE enabled, next time I see it doing this I'll try disabling that.

I'm having the issue here. Determined it only flashes to 4G+ when there is active data downloading. Otherwise it sits at LTE. US/AT&T here. Was considering going to T-Mobile to put a SIM in the 2nd tray and see if it does it there too, because I was thinking it was just an APN setting.
An easy way to tell is open YouTube and playback a video off of cellular..indicator will stick on 4G+. Alternatively, run a Speed Test, when downloading it will flash back and forth rapidly, however when doing the upload test it will stay on LTE.
I always thought 4G+ was the same as HSDPA+/HSUPA+ which is nowhere near as fast as LTE. Does anyone having the issue have a recent LTE phone they can swap back into and copmare speed tests?
Edit - typos.

4G is LTE. Not sure what 4G+ is. On LTE when it works I can get around 100 down.
Hmm, no 4G and LTE are different, in the US at least. 4G was marketed before LTE came about, you can see proof of this on an iPhone 4S, which did not have LTE radios but did label HSDPA+ connections as 4G. So you can thank Apple for the marketing confusion. However, upon researching this issue it seems 4G+ (with the plus, not just 4G) is the technical equivalent to LTE. It is just used in different countries, such as Singapore.
Regardless, the issue seems to have gone away after coming to work and being in different AT&T towers. I'm guessing it was just a graphical bug.
In Europe 4g and Lte is the same but the 4g+ is the new faster net

Pretty certain the one plus when using carrier aggregation shows the 4G+ and 4g when on HSDPA. Confusing for certain but when I've noticed it that's been the case (as much as I can tell without field test)

Basically combining two frequencies that use LTE for better bandwidth on the download speed as its currently mostly implemented.

Yes that's exactly what mine is doing, however today it does it sometimes and other times it remains showing LTE when downloading data. I noticed when it remains as LTE, the up/down indicators in the pull-down settings don't show up, which leads me to believe even more that the LTE/4G+ toggling is just a visual bug, as they are technically the same network connection.
I took contact with the Oneplus support about this problem. They told me to send them a log with a hidden menu ( call the *#800#). He sent the log to the development team, I will tell you if I have news

S7 Active and T-Mobile: Band 12, VoLTE

I'm really interested in an S7 Active but AT&T has virtually no service in my area but T-Mobile works great. I see that the stock S7 works fine on T-Mobile and gets band 12 and VoLTE. But I can find little about the active version. If it is unlocked can I get Band 12 or VoLTE to work? I'm happy to root if need be... it seems every phone I've had I found a reason to do so.

Great. Thanks for the confidence booster. It seems like the perfect device if a bit bulky. I disabled wifi calling on my devices anyway since when I walk away from the access point the call drops and the only place I need it is at home where I'm using a cellspot router due to (the metal roof? and) no signal indoors. It hands off just fine on the network when I walk out of the house.

Anyone actively using on Tmo network

Hello is anyone still using their Galaxy S4 M919 on Tmobile's network? Reason I ask is because I wanted to activate my old M919 on Tmobile's network and I checked Tmobile's compatibility page (www[.]t-mobile[.]com/resources/bring-your-own-phone) and after supplying my IMEA it says this model is not compatible. Just under three years ago it was active on their network. I'm just surprised because it was a good phone.
I don't think they support older phone from 2013
When you turn off the cellular radio, the S4 (or any Smartphone) has amazing battery life for use as a WiFi-only device.

Sorry to bump an old tread, but I just fixed My old S4(M919) and I can confirm as of today that it works just fine on T-Mobile's network. Calling, Wi-Fi Calling, Text Messaging and MMS all worked just fine. The T-Mobile website also said my device was not compatible, but from the description, it seems its more related to VoLTE(which this phone doesn't support) meaning no HD quality phone calls and expect your Data to be a bit slower since it doesn't support the latest revision(also slightly weaker LTE signal.)

Exynos Note 10+ 5g with Android 10 update - Tmo Wifi Calling working, no CSC/patch

Anyone else notice that after updating to Android 10, all the necessary Wifi Calling software is just baked in now?
I have the korean SM-N976N , Note 10+ 5g and am on USA T-Mobile. Now, on the Korean Note 8 I had to make a custom CSC patch which included some software from the F variant as well as the U T-mobile variant (as well as delete a Korean feature) to get Wifi Calling working.
However, on this 10+ 5g I haven't had time to root or work on a CSC patch to get WFC, but after updating to Android 10 a few days ago, it is just baked in by default now and works just fine. I did have to go into the Wifi Calling menu and change the preference to Wifi, but it is definitely connected and works great.
Now I'm really not sure rooting is even worthwhile anymore... adblock would be nice and CSC feature customization is also great but... everything just works now (minus phone-app Samsung Pay of course, but rooting wouldn't solve that).
-------------
Anyway - anyone else notice this? Wondering if AT&T WFC will work now as well.
KT- Hey! I ALMOST got a Exynos Note 8 a while back, based on your experiences fixing it for T-mobile. Now I'm seriously considering the Note 10+, because it seems even more US friendly.
There's been some talk about Carrier Aggregation. Has there been any progress? Does it REALLY matter? How slow is "slower" gonna be? Would I notice if I didn't have a US version right next to me?
I'm actually thrilled that the Wifi calling just works now! That becomes a huge issue for me once a year, when I travel to the deep Boonies to see my family.
Also, I'm thinking of getting the F/DS. Would it be better if I track down the N, like I believe you have?
Long time listener, first time caller. Thanks so much!
How has your service been? On my N975F, its been ok. Slow data speeds, and weak signal, have been issues ive been dealing with. Im also using on T-mobile in the US.
What about 5g? Did u managed to get it working? I live in China and technically n976n has to work on n78 band but it doesn't
