Feature request? Change network speed with tasker/other apps - LineageOS Questions & Answers

Hi,
where can I request a new feature? It would be nice to have a possibility to change network speed from f. ex. 4G to 2G with tasker on LineageOS. Android doesn't have an API for that but LOS already has System Profiles so I think (and maybe I am wrong) that some intents could be added without too much work?

[APP] Autokiller Memory Optomizer 7.2

We have had much debate over this particular app (and others like it that don't compare IMHO) as to whether it is "useful" or not for our particular phones. Some agree that it is very useful to be able to fine tune our systems while others simply use the built in Task Manager and are content with that. Thanks to [email protected] and his new version, he has definitely made this app a necessity for our phone.
The skinny:
[From Home Page]
Autokiller Memory Optomizer is designed to fine-tune android system's inner memory manager routines to keep your device fast and smooth. It also features a full-powered process manager which lets you control your whole system. If you want to know what it does and how it works you should read about (the) details, process manager and check the faq.
Site url: http://andrs.w3pla.net/autokiller
Brief Changelog:
changes:
- LOTS of fixes and small improvements
- will properly be displayed in market (users with custom dpi saw only old
versions)
- fixed service - it will stay running/restarted if necessary
- great new look
- improved pages behaviour, more fluid user interface with less loading
- ICS compatibility
- Widgets: AutoKiller with free memory bubble, Quick restart, Memory
reclaim(!!!)
- updated 3rd party libraries
- much much more.....
I had the priveledge of beta testing this for Mate and he has made some amazing progress since the previous version. One feature that stands out for me is that on the main screen, simply click "Switch To Pages" and it will automatically reclaim lost memory which for me, is a god-send. I was able to click this and my available memory shot up to 570MB FREE! Another noteworthy feature is that there is a Services Tab which lets you kill tasks at the service level. Of course for the true geek, there is an Advanced Option that is packed with many useful options to keep your phone tweaked and running fast and smooth.
I've used this app for quite some time but now with the arrival of 7.2, it is a must-have app for anyone that wants complete control over their device.
You can download this app from the market or from a QR Code on his page:

*EDIT* - As of the latest release available on the Market I was informed by Mate/andrs that the memory reclaim option is only available via the widget. Regardless, it's a KICK-ASS feature that I use numerous times per day.
One question though: Do you think I should ask to have this thread moved to Hacking so that it sees more traffic?
I would have to agree with you, I do consider this a must have app. I have been beta testing this for a very long time an it has made leaps an bounds. There is lots of support from the developer an nothing but wonderful updates making it just that much better.

Since I use V6 Supercharger Script by zepplinrox, the settings stick in Autokiller so my min frees, oom and all memory settings are applied from V6 and applied at boot. WickedDaze gave you great advice though about going to his website and check out the information there. It will break everything down for you and help you achieve optimal results for your phone.

I think the app works great, plus it comes with 3 widgets including a quick restart.

[Q] Vibration Strength System File

Hi all. I have a quick question, and I can't find the answer. It's probably not device specific, but my device is the GNEX Maguro (on Lollipop).
Ok, straight to the point.
Using Trickster MOD I can set the vibration strength. The kernel supports it (bsmitty's Full Auto Kernel). I'd like to know which system file contains this value.
Why? Because I want to use Tasker to change this value (mainly to get back the real silent mode), and I think a script is needed to change it directly.

My P8000 WISH LIST

I really really start to like the P8000. It may not have gazillions of gadgets features but it does all the important stuff well enough and long enough (due to the splendid battery). Taking into account the price, I like it even better than my Nexus 5. Because this phone is such a bargain, I hope that it will get the developer support it deserves.
This is my wish list.
Priority no. 1: Encryption support (unfortunately, this feature is missing from the stock ROM)
Priority no. 2: Custom kernel (this would probably allow us to overclock, use USB OTG, install TWRP etc.)
Priority no. 3: Custom ROM with smart network support (xposed + Gravity Box or Smart Network does not work on my P8000)
Priority no. 4: Support of Android API for RAW pictures
Feel free to add your wishes. Maybe a talented developer will take care of us

When you say "Smart Network Support" in Priority 3, you mean the Smart Network Switch that turns of Mobile Data connection etc. when screen is off, yeah?
Try CPU Tuner and you can create profiles that trigger on different events like screen off. You can then choose to disable data connection, WiFi or whatever in that profile. You need to use it in Advanced Mode for full features I think.

Yes + thanks. I will try CPU Tuner.

I tried 3C Toolbox (seems to include CPU Tuner/System Tuner) and used a profile that switches off 4G when the screen is off. Anyway, it did not work...
working Bluetooth Music Stream without Skipping and Stopping :laugh:
For some reason, I am still on the July Stock ROM, and no updates to me whatsoever.
What I wish right now is:
- Better power management (for some reason, "Phone Idle" is always the top power consumer);
- Double tap to wake;
- Fix bluetooth issues (music skipping, gibberish play);
- Third party camera support;
- Possibility to overclock it;
- Fix small GPS hiccups;
And of course, Android Marshmallow update.

If you update to the latest stock ROM or use Eragon custom ROM, you will be able to use third party cameras. I tested this myself.
How do I improve the speaker volume, I have tried mtk engineering mode but volume doesn't seem to have improved very much

Thermal Daemon Mitigation OFF with CM?

Dear All,
I´ve managed to build a CM 12.1 with nfs support. Why 12.1? Well, for my D855, that was the only branch I could get working when building a kernel in Ubuntu, using the downloadable snapshot at CM´s site. The nighty´s would give me errors of different kinds during the building process, so the files on the phone needed when building are probably not the exact required version that match with the repo you can download in terminal mode.
Anyway, my experience with marshmellow is that the phone gets so hot that it turns itself off - another good reason to stay with 12.1.
My phone however still gets hot, which happens when using it with my VR headset to watch UHD clips. After 5 mins of watching, it dims down a bit. Then a few mins later a bit more, and so on until it looks like I´m staring at the screen through old cheap shades.
I´ve already disabled automatic brightness control, tried apps which claim to keep the brightness at the desired strength (Lux, the app is called), an app that´s ment to keep the screen always on (Always Awake), an app claiming to patch this exact bug, flashed a hack that´ll throttle only above 70 C. None of this helped. What I do know is that in the secret menu of stock firmware, there´s an option called Thermal Daemon Mitigation OFF, but I can´t access the secret menu through CM - only CM´s secret menu, that doesn´t have this option. Enabling this is said to cope with the problem.
There´s also a file named thermanager.xml in system/etc, which looks like something which can be modified to meet my requirements, but I´m not sure.
Finally, my least prefered option is to install a thermal pad on the SoC, but although I´m experienced with hardware, it´s on desktop level - not with such tiny things as a mobile.
So please, could someone help out here? Is there a way to rebuild the kernel with the stock secret menu or amendments to the throttling? Is there a way for me to get into the stock secret menu in CM?
Other ideas?
PS: I´m posting here because if there´s a way to get Thermal Daemon Mitigation OFF option related parameters set when building kernel in menuconfig, then it´s related to this sub forum.
PPS: Edited thermanager so all brightness values are 255, this seems to fix the problem!

How to improve battery life

Hi
I just switched to LOS and then to DU and i get the same battery life as Stock 8.1/ 9 preview
I'd like an advise to improuve my battery life
I think about a custom Kernel but i want an advise from you, witch one to choose
Franko Kernel
CLANG 7.0] Flash Kernel
exNoShadez-eas
Pixel XL ElementalX 3.07
Thank's in advance
Elemental x, Use a kernel manager to lower Max clock speeds, but not so much that the device starts to lags.
Turn off adaptive brightness, manually adjust it.
Try giving the app "L speed" a try. Its developed by a member here in our forums and has a ton of options. It also has present profiles such as "battery" or "performance".
If you use alot of main stream bigger apps (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, others) you can try giving greenify a shot. Even the free version has powerful tool.
Make sure that Bluetooth and wifi scanning while off is disabled.
Use quicktiles Oreo to add some toggleable quick tiles to your status bar. Add toggles for things like sync, gps, nfc, location, etc. Radios are power hungry, keep whatever you can off.

The problem with lowering max clock speeds is that they don't stay locked. Have you lowered them, exited out of the application and then tried to play a game or something ? For me the speeds don't stay locked.

Make sure you hit the little option to the side, it locks it and persist at reboots. I honestly selected the Max speed during install, so I didn't have to mess with the app.
