Identify Software Channel - Moto Z Play Questions & Answers

Hi,
Can anyone help me to identify your software channel from which country.
I think, it will help our friend to flash correct or equivalent firmware based on their software channel and country.

You can actually flash factory images from other regions onto your phone. Got my Z play used and it came with TWRP. Wanted to go back to stock, so flashed (what I thought was) the RETUS factory image (did not flash modem or bootloader) and now I'm on attmx. Seems like you can jump between any software channel you want with no issues. That being said, if you do this to get an early OTA, the OTA may not work due to your bootloader and modem not matching up. Everything else seems to be identical between software channels.

If that happens, is there a way to re-mach bootloader and modem, so I can receive OTA.. Now I get an error when trying to update. The update downloads, but when phone restarts to bootloader (or recovery) it gives me an modem error.

Here's a list of several software channels, i added the ones already mentioned in the thread alphabetically.

If you still know what bootloader and modem are on your device, sure. Just reflash the software package matching your model. Keep in mind that as of now most of the firmwares are not yet released.
I have a RETEU device, so my only way of reverting to stock for OTA's is flashing an custom unsigned RETEU firmware, and for this an unlocked bootloader is necessary.

Thank You for your answer! I manage to revert to stock 6.0.1 from sideloaded nougat using one of the firmware found here on xda. I received december update and updated with succes. I remained with the bootloader unlocked, but it's not an issue for me. I am waiting for official nougat update now for the reteu channel

Please, anybody tell me what is the difference between RETASIA, RETIN and RETAIL firmware versions of Moto Z Play Indian Nougat? I want to download stock nougat 7.0 firmware for my Indian Moto z play nougat (RETIN - software channel). But there is no RETIN version firmware is available on the web for moto z play India. There is a website which give stock firmware for moto z play India https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/addison/official/ and there is RETASIA with 6.0.1 and RETAIL with 7.0. Which should I download for India? I am confused between both. Is RETAIL is also particularly for India or it is universal for all countries retail versions? Only RETAIL word is confusing because there is no country's or region's name.
Please answer all the questions in detail without any short language.

You don't need to ask the same question on every thread.
There is no difference between RETIN, RETAIL, and RETASIA firmware. Those are retail software channels, meaning that any updates (OS and security patches) come directly from Motorola rather than a mobile carrier.
If the bootloader on your phone is unlocked, you can install this firmware on your phone, regardless of the software channel your phone is set to. The software channel can't be changed.

It's Android 7.0 with the March 1, 2017 security patch.

1. It will install on any XT1635-02. It will work on your retin device.
2. I don't know the answer to that question since I've never had to flash a full rom onto my phone.

I have reflashed the stock RETAIL 7.0 Nougat March security patched Rom on my rooted Moto Z Play Nougat India. Then I also update to latest April security OTA update. But now even after a clean install of stock Nougat ROM and then update to latest April security, My SafetyNet failed. I got a red error like this " SafetyNet failed: CTS profile mismatch " "Basic Integrity: true".
I had used following these commands to reinstalled my stock nougat ROM:
fastboot oem fb_mode_set
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash dsp adspso.bin
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.4
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.5
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.6
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.7
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.8
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.9
fastboot flash oem oem.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot oem fb_mode_clear
fastboot reboot
I have not install any root or twrp or anything. It is totally clean and fresh. Why I got SafetyNet Failed: CTS Mismatch error?

Does anyone have an idea about the RETGB software channel?
I can't seem to find anything about it on the internet. >.<
I want its stock firmware for my MZP.

Let's say I am on a custom Rom and can't find an Information about my Software Channel on my Phone menu... How to identify it? The Box my Phone Was Sold in said RETAIL, so I am safe to flash a RETAIL-Rom (newest Nougat)?

I can answer this myself due to future requests:
Boot into fastboot and enter "fastboot getvar all" (without the "" of course). Then you'll get all informations about your Moto Z Play, one line shows you the software channel your phone has!!

Xt1634-02 retin

Hi guys, I just received my Z Play off of eBay. Model is XT1635-02 on the RETIN software channel.
1) Where would I find 7.1.1 flashable firmware?
2) Is there a difference in supported bands between the RETIN radio and the RETUS radio (I'm in the US)?
Their is deodexed flashable firmware somewhere which I think works across all devices but don't quote me on that read instructions carefully.

SM-G9600/DS firmware (Dual-sim)

Hi all, I am new to this and just did a bit of research but I still have some questions that you all might be able to answer..
So I just purchased a Chinese S9 due to the dual-sim capability, but of course there is no google play store and is other chinese bloatware.
I was going to change the firmware to another Snapdragon (US) capable firmware, but there is none available for dual-sim, which is the main reason I bought the phone.
My question, is the Hong Kong version of SM-G9600/DS firmware going to allow me to use the google playstore?
If so, what is the difference between "G9600ZHU2ARC6_CL13087568_QB17462476_REV01_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT_meta.zip (Oreo/HongKong)" and "G9600ZHU1ARC1_CL13087568_QB17191487_REV01_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT_meta.zip (Oreo/HongKong)"?
If all else fails, will separately downloading/installing the google playstore on the original chinese firmware be functional?
Thanks in advance!
Yes HK firmware comes with playstore and sorry I don't know the difference for the 2 different firmware, the latest one is ARC6

Thank you Zenroid.
I was thinking about it, but is the HK version considered the "International Version" and thus using the Exynos chipset as opposed to the China/USA Snapdragon?
edit: Did a quick google search and the HK version has the Snapdragon chipset. I guess I will need to look around for the HK dual-sim firmware.
The SM-G9600 firmware has the SM-G9600/DS firmware, I installed the SM-G9600 G9600ZHU2ARD3 CHO firmware (Chile) in a dual sim and I have no problems, it works fine, it is the version without blotware for Latin America, it has monthly updates (currently has the security patch of April), has Play Store and all the Samsung apps.
You're absolutely right Dark_3g. The SM-G9600 is for both China/HK and Latin America, luckily.
So I downloaded the HK firmware for SM-G9600 (arc6) and loaded into my phone and everything works perfectly.
Many thanks guys!

When you flashed the new firmware, did it trip KNOX? I know it shouldn't, since it's official, but that doesn't stop my brain from telling me to worry about it, haha.

onijomiko - I have the same question. Does it trip Knox? What is the filename or version number of the firmware you installed? Does it support VoLTE and Wifi calling, for either one or both SIMs?
I bought a HK version phone from a retailer in the US. As soon as I started it, it prompted me an OTA upgrade which I did. Now, it's at baseband version G9600ZCU2ARE6.
If I go to software updates, it says "The latest version updates have already been installed. Current version: G9600ZHU2ARE6/G9600OWO2ARE6/G9600ZCU2ARE6". I'm not sure why it lists three different version numbers here. From a quick google search, samsung-firmware.org shows:
PDA/AP Version G9600ZHU2ARE6
CSC Version G9600OWO2ARE6
MODEM/CP Version G9600ZCU2ARE6
Region COO — Colombia
If I look up the firmware version for Hong Kong, the CSC version shows G9600TGY2ARE6 but the other two version numbers are the same as what I have. Is this what onijomiko installed?
Do either of you onijomiko or Dark_3g have VoLTE and Wifi calling in your versions?

Flashing the official firmwares does NOT trip Knox. I've done it a few times over the last day or two. (Read about all my adventures in this thread).
The three model numbers are the PDA version (the actual firmware/OS), the CSC (country-specific stuff; in your case it's the most recent OWO one, which is the international unlocked version for Latin America; I'm not totally sure about how all these work though--trying to figure out how to get the right one set up on my phone), and the CP (modem firmware, same for all Qualcomm S9's, I think), respectively.
Read up on about Samsung's "CSC" system. If you find any particularly good resources, send them my way too! The way they have designed it is kind of confusing to me.
I'm not sure about VoLTE/Wifi calling. Haven't tried it yet on my phone, sorry. Hope it works though! :fingers-crossed:

Thanks a lot for the info. Do you at least see VoLTE and Wifi Calling menu items under 'Settings > Connections > More settings' after flashing the HK ROM? This will help me to decide to flash it. I'm reading about CSC - will report back if I find anything new that you haven't mentioned in the other thread.

Doesn't seem to be the case with the MXO 2ARC6 firmware (Updato). However, my CSC was also listed as TTT still, so going to reflash and see if I can get it to change. Forgot to disable FRP lock last time, oops, hopefully a reflash with US sim in slot, FRP disabled, followed by factory data reset (or two) will do the trick.
Didn't check when I had the HK firmware flashed, it's been a while since I used it.

Anybody ever flash full retail pie to model XT1789-05 china staff version?

It is a lenovo internal staff version bought from China. Bootloader unlocked already. The model is 1789-05.

Star Wars Edition firmware V4 bootloader

So I had a bad install of the Verizon August security patch causing battery and Bluetooth issues. For fun, I decided to install the U1 firmware. The software on Sammobile for July 2020 under U1 USA (Verizon) is the Staw Wars version. This version can be installed as long as you are on bootloader 4. Whats interesting is on Verizon, you end up with VZW/VZW/VZW under software service provider.
The only difference I can see in software versions is that the Star Wars model has OYZ in the name, while the regular XAA model is OYM.

As far as the CSCs go, they makes sense. Mine is TMB/TMB/XAA. The last CSC is hard-coded and will never change. It merely reflects where the device was intended to go...carrier or factory unlocked.
The first two CSCs reflect the sales code of the carrier you're using it on (so the SIM, basically), and the other is the features unique to that carrier. For example, with the unlocked firmware, i still get WiFi calling on TMB, whereas you won't on VZW, despite running identical firmware. They change when the phone provisions the SIM.
It should also be noted that unlike previous Android versions, Wifi Calling DOES work on Verizon with U1 firmware on Android 10.

Can you share me the link to download firmware
You have to find it through Sammobile. Search under firmware and by your model number. Make sure you know what you're doing before flashing, and it will wipe your phone.

Changing US TMO S20 5G to Spain Unbranded Firmware

I have an unlocked US TMO S20 5G that I would like to reset and use in Spain with my Spanish SIM card, but not with all the US TMO firmware etc.
Can I flash a Spanish unbranded/unlocked firmware or should I flash the unbranded US firmware?
Assuming I can flash the Spanish firmware, what are the procedures?
Thanks!
Spanish Firmware isn't compatible with Snapdragon devices, it's designed to operate alongside Exynos Chipsets. You may want to flash the US Unbranded Firmware SM-G981U1 and go from there.
