i am planning on getting rid of my W8 & buying a Arc S....but i am a bit stumped by a couple of things. i like modding my phones....my W8 was pretty modded out...i didnt unlock the bootloader & ran stock kernel but i could still flash custom roms. can i still do that with the arc s? i mean do i have to unlock bootloader in order to install any custom roms?? & are the steps to rooting an arc the same as rooting an arc s?? any help would be appreciated....
arc S can be rooted with zergrush method very easy...
on locked booltoader so far can instal only 2 custom rom based on stock firmware...
also theme, mods can be instaled with CWM on locked BL..
Which two roms are you talking about? Can I flash even with cwm recovery 5.0.2.7 nAa r2? (the one with thd auto_installer in themes and apps category) thanks for you attention!
Sent from my Arc S LT18i using Xda Premium App
Xperia MOD is first one, i cant remember which is second one sry :/

Hi guys
i wanna make a simple question and i hope i can get the reply i want
basically i was planning to ask if there is an easy way to root my phone and i had found it on this section so i cover up my 1st question
the second think i want to ask is that since i am planning to root my phone and start playing around with roms and apps i would like to ask before i go ahead and root the phone how can i backup the original firmware of the phone so if in case i screw it up at list i will be able to go back to the original state by flashing the original image of the phone. the reason i am asking that is because i had destroy my new Atrix 2 and till now i haven't manage to get the Asia Pacific version so i was forced to install an ATT version and sale the phone half price instead keeping it and just looking at it, so this time i want to follow the safe side
the details of the phone is as follow and i just bought it today morning
Model: LT18i
Version:2.3.4
kernel: 2.6.32.9
Build: 4.0.2.A.0.62
i will deeply appreciate any response and advise from you guys

Don't think there's rooting kit for your build yet..
if you happen to root it, download SE Extreme Tweak Installer.. this will install CWM Recovery where you can backup and restore your firmware before bootup.
Then you can start messing around.

Can you tell me from where i can download that because i had found this which is mentioning that is working for my version http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1320350
please also explain if i can use the back up to reflash my phone in its original state at any time i wish and how through the phone or by any third party application like Odin i.e. and where can i locate the back up file inside the phone or SD memory
i am owner of S2 and i am doing pretty well but with Arc s i am just noob
yea...i did the same too....rooted it installed CWM & backed up my rom & tried to flash a custom rom that didnt require bootloader unlocking or custom kernel.....i managed to do sumthng do the phone...it got stuck at the se logo...it wudnt even go to CWM....later the guys here advised me to use flashtool to reflash a stock firmware...& i did & with my fingers crossed...did so & got my arc s back alive.....after this episode...i lost the nerve to flash custom roms in my arc s......& i have been flashing custom roms in my w8 & this never happened.....this shows that the arc s development area is still not ironclad yet
btw...i do have a question.....i am a bit confused by the system info from antutu benchmark....the original stated RAM for the arc s is 512MB. but in antutu benchmark shows total RAM as 335MB.....i dont get it.....can anyone else confirm this??
Hey everyone,
Just to let everyone know I am a noob, however I did watch a lot of tutorials on how to root the Xperia ZL. I am referring to this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31545627 However, considering I am a noob, i can't post in that thread. I am experiencing some problems when the Bat file won't push the Super User app and Busy Box to the phone. Are there other approved methods of rooting this phone. By the way I have a locked bootloader, and I do not plan on unlocking it. Very afraid of screwing something help.
Thanks.
Just to add, I am using v30 of Binary, and everything works fine until I get passed the "restore option." After I complete this and am told to go into "Service Tests- then Display" this is where nothing is happening, and I am waiting forever!
You can use the new flashtool (Flashtool version 0.9.10.2beta6) to root your new XZL. It's the easiest way to root XZL.

Yes, you still can root without unlocking ur bootloader.
Using flashtool u even can relock ur bootloader after u had unlocked it.
One tip after u rooted ur phone, please do a full backup including ur TA (this will ensure u still have ur drm key for bravia engine) incase you want to try to flash other rom especially AOSP base rom and getting back to factory default rom.

Basically, yes ur warranty is void if u unlock the bootloader because u need serial key to unlock the bootloader which u can get it by requesting from Sony website (u have to give ur phone imei number to get the serial key, Sony may blacklist ur imei number).
But if u can make it totally stock after u relock the bootloader (including ur drm key, this key is unique u can't flash others TA in ur phone, it will brick ur phone), and consider u r lucky (the Sony technician may not check the blacklisted list), u may claim the warranty.
This is only my logical thinking, u may need to validate my statement with others. I do not know whether Sony blacklist the phone imei if u request the unlock key. FYI, HTC blacklist the phone imei once u request the unlock key.

As far as I know you can't get back the drm key if you're not backup ur TA first before unlocking the bootloader. U may try to ask the owner of the phone, he/she may have the TA backup but even if he/she have it, I don't know whether you know that TA is belong to ur phone or not. I do not know how to check that, it may have imei number in the file to validate.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

An you are talking to a complete noob, so I do apologize, but TA? I understand I need to do a full back up of everything, I have done that before on other phones I have rooted. Just use Titanium backup for this, or is there a better app to conduct full backups. I haven't rooted phones in awhile. I had a couple Galaxy's notes and stuff that I rooted but I never did back-ups because I was just using them temporarily. So i've been out of the loop

Please refer this link to backup your TA http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2234627
For full backup, i think you need CWM or TWRP recovery with stock kernel, please refer here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2095
If you are very new to this, I advise you to read and understand completely before you start anything. If you want to install hacked games or tweak a system a bit better you just root without unlocking bootloader, if you want to taste AOSP based rom or addicted with ROM flashing unlocking bootloader will ease your job.
Good luck with your reading and happy rooting
The best method to rooting your Xperia ZL is this method I did to unlock my ZL phones, the easiest without unlocking the bootloader believe me.

Hi guys,
I've put a stock rom in my Z1C and sent it to the warranty. The problem is that they say it has a changed software version, and the warranty is not activated in these situations.
I dont know what to do, because I checked on PCCompanion and it really says it's not the original software version. I even used a tool that i saw in this forum XperiFirm_3.7_(by_Igor_Eisberg), to download the Portuguese ROM.
I flashed it, but i still have this error in PCCOmpanion.
Can someone help me?

Did you restore your TA partition?
If you unlocked the bootloader and didn't relock it, restoring the DRM keys, then the service center know that it's been messed with.
@Pakman123 my bootloader is unlocked i think, i'm not sure about this. How can i check this?
@Didgesteve i didnt restore my TA neither restore DRM keys (dont know what is this).

What do i really need to do to put the original ROM and make sure they dont detect it in the Service Center?

Anyone knows how to use Sony Flashtool (EMMA) like in the Service Center (warranty) to check if it's everything fine? I've searched in a lot of pages and didnt found anything.

Did you enable USB debugging in the developer options before you tried to restore the TA partition? (Settings => About phone => Click 7 times on Android Build to unlock developer options)
How to unlock bootloader on Sony Xperia M5.
How to unlock bootloader
1.In http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/ choose Sony Xperia M2.
2.Submit Email
3.Submit IMEI
4.And unlock bootloader with intruction.
You get the code? Then we continue.
Download the latest version here or Flashtool http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php
After installation, go the path C: \ Users \ username \ .flashTool \ registeredDevices here and create a folder with the code-name of your machine (you can find out if flashtool click on BLU and see where in the log are in line «Current device» for example, in line 09/045/2015 23:45:08 - INFO - Current device: C2104 - AB100C2DE3 - 1272-4136_R5B - 1269-5420_15.3.A.1.17 - WORLD-a_15.3.A.1.17 code machine will AB100C2DE3. Code which will write your name and location).
Later in this folder, create a text file and name it «ulcode» (without the quotes). Open, and in it write your unlock code, that you have on the site Sony. Save. Write code very carefully.
Now open flashtool and press the BLU. If everything is correct, in line you should write your code, pressing unlock. All should be ready to unlock.
Working on:E5633
I am not responsible for the broken device. Whatever you do, you do at your own risk
After unlocking bootloader will void the warranty
I forgot write. I get unlock code with my IMEI.
Interesting, I checked my Rooting Info as per the guide and it does say allowed.
I think giving Sony my IMEI will potentially void my warranty claims? Let me think about it.

I think, in service centre check bootloader. If bootloader not unlocked, warranty is valid.
This method is working also on M5 dual, 6533
But the next step should be how to gain the root =)

Yes, you can relock your bootloader with Flash Tool but your DRM keys are gone forever, proprietary Sony features won't work even after relocking...
Also, it's veeeeeery unlikely, but they may check if your DRM keys still exist in Sony Service Center, in case they don't find them they'll know you've unlocked your bootloader...
How about port TWRP or CWM on Xperia M5 ? If we port recovery, we can get root.

I think there's a way to do it by backing up the TA partition. That's how Sony Xperia Z1 started. We root, unlock bootloader, backup TA and when we relock, we can actually restore the TA and DRM key

Err, no. To preserve your DRM keys you need a way to root without unlocking the bootloader (e.g. using an exploit), then you make a backup of your TA partition which will contain your DRM keys. If you unlocked your bootloader without a taking a TA backup first, your DRM keys are gone forever, even if you root your device afterwards and make a backup of your TA partition you won't have any keys at all because they already were wiped when you unlocked the bootloader, this applies to any Sony device.
In other words, currently there's no way of unlocking M5 bootloader and keeping your DRM keys, the hope is Xperia Z5 series or other flagship devices, they draw attention of many developers and like what happened with Z2 and Z3, for example, locked bootloader users probably gonna start a bounty or some kind of incentive for a way to root the locked variant of those flagships, eventually they'll find an exploit that probably can be ported to other devices with less development activity, like Xperia M4/M5.
It's the cat-and-mouse game, new flagships are released, devs will research possible exploits to those new flagship devices and when one is found it's very likely to work with most devices released at the same time (and that probably are unpatched too). Also, in Sony devices, if you have root in one firmware version, you'll automatically have root in any new firmware too (using tools like PRFCreator or dd Flasher)...
(as record, towelroot, developed originally for Galaxy S5, could be used in a lot of Xperia devices from that time, and the Xperia Z3 exploit was successfully ported to Xperia E3 as well and could probably be used in similar devices released around the same time like Xperia C3 and others)
Thank you! What's the chance of the M5 properly supported by custom rom, like FreeXperia and CyanogenMod?

Hello Duke,
On Sonymobile page for M5 it is showing that it is due to update to Android 6.0 Marshmellow which is coming soon.
So what do you think? I heard root isnt possible on Android 6.0 , and if rooted they will make it hard for the users.
Is it going to be well? or Rooting is history?
p.s - When I asked a youtube user for the bootloader for M5, he said " root method has been out for months, it would be great if you can put Google to use. no offense". Is this true? whats going on?
thank you.

Well i personally don't trust any advice from any other source except for XDA just to be safe because we the internet have too many smart alecks who know nothing and try to act smart by being sarcastic. So i guess the safest thing to do is to check on XDA for root methods and go through the forum to see if it works for others

p.s - When I asked a youtube user for the bootloader for M5, he said " root method has been out for months, it would be great if you can put Google to use. no offense". Is this true? whats going on?
thank you.

I don't think he have a rooted M5. Before we get root, we must unlock the bootloader first, and this is the part that is not done yet.

That's very lengthy but good to know. Thank you!
Well i personally don't trust any advice from any other source except for XDA just to be safe because we the internet have too many smart alecks who know nothing and try to act smart by being sarcastic. Yes you are right, may be he is being Sarcastic or some kind of adware developer for corporates.
Looking in XDA forums.
Hi all,
I have switched to Sony from Samsung and am new to flashing Sony's, I recently took the dive and unlocked my bootloader (Which i wish i didnt) but anyway I have managed to backup my TA keys and flash Kryptonian ROM and then restore my TA keys but how do i check that the DRM is restored? I checked X-reality in settings and it appears to be on but is there any other way to check it is working FULLY? I really need make sure X-reality and HD Music working fully
Also if i re-lock the bootloader do i get any functions back or would there be no difference as I have already restored the DRM keys?

To find out if your keys are re-enabled after you flashed them go to the services menu (open your phone dialer and type *#*#service#*#*) and under service tests/security you should see the 3 keys on top "active" and the fido key "provisioned"...that means that all your keys are back...
You need a kernel that was repacked using Tobias tool by the way, don't know what kernel is included (if any included) with Kryptonian ROM, but in any case, the rom one or if you flashed one on your own, are in most case being repacked using that tool...
Also don't lose your TA backup under any circumstances, since the partition got wiped once you unlocked your bootloader, those keys are unique to your device only!
And you'll need to reflash them if you relock...
Since you have a TA backup and flashed your keys back your device is as before it was unlocked now with the extra bonus of root, so no need to wish that you didn't unlock
You're all good to go
Keys look all ok and Fido provisioned..I take it i dont need to re-lock the bootloader? many thanks again!

Relocking is your own choice, but as it is now you can unleash the full potential of your phone...ie roms, kernels, Xposed etc...
Enjoy
Ok I thought i was getting somewhere with this BUT I have tried various ROMS and hit the same problem wach time and dont know what im doing ROM, I can get x-reality to work and download album art etc but Clearaudio / equaliser and surround sound settings do not work , i have tried clean flash of stock .305 rom and also various custom ROMs and doesnt make any difference, I have tried with restore of DRM keys also and all times they dont work, DSEE works but i want the equaliser etc to work also, can anyone please help!!!!

Thanks for your complete answer
I have done lots of things with my phone and never cared about this TA backup or drm keys and I don't have backup even
I flashed different build rooted them used xposed and lots of things and recently, overheating problem makes me crazy and I'm looking for a solution, if it's related to drm or these things that I have never done.
I checked my system service which u said and here I attached screenshot, what it means by error? And what I have to do to restore the drm? Is flashing the stock rom through flashtools make any difference?
