How to install 2.10.405.2 over 2.09.405.8

As per my previous thread, I'm not getting any OTA updates and want to manually install the new version.
I have HTC Sync 3, the SDK / ADB installed and working and am on Win 7.
I have tried goldcard (the phone was a Virgin phone which I've debranded with the stock 2.09 ROM), SIM in, SIM out, connecting the USB as HTC Sync, disk drive etc., and I've tried a variety of options from the bootloader screen.
My issue:
The RUU exe starts, I get the first two warning screens which I ok to, and then after a minute or so it errors out with a 170 message. Occasionally it will get past this stage to the screen where it shows your current software level and confirms you want to update. If I proceed from here, then the phone reboots into the black HTC screen but there is no "USB connected" sound from the computer and I get an error 171.
Is there any other way to get it in? The only other weirdness I get in normal use is that whenever connecting HTC Sync the USB debugging switches itself on, but I'm not sure if that's normal or not.
Cheers,
Joe

[Q] Failed to get Root!

I followed instructions to gain root access with Revolutionary S-OFF & Recovery tool 0.4pre4 but received the following error:
Zerging Root... this might take a minute or so.. _rawadb_handle_msg: unexpected CLSE
Failed to get root! :<
Press (almost) any key to exit.
PC firewall & av off, phone's been factory reset, usb debugging and fastboot enabled. No HTC Sync, usb drivers installed.
Am I missing something?
hboot 2.16.0001
radio 2.15.00.05.02
build 4.24.651.1
*Update-I tried accepting the OTA update, currently at build 4.53.651.1 and radio 2.15.00.0808 but rooting the phone is still unsuccessful producing the same error*
*Update-Switching from USB 3.0 port to USB 2.0 port resolved trouble, S-OFF successful and recovery installed and accessed*

Possibly bricked Desire Z? Tried a few methods from threads but no luck so far.

Hi,
So on one casual Sunday afternoon after getting burgers with my friend, I went to use my phone to find that the screen was on the fritz:
(had images uploaded onto IMGUR but I can't like to them because it's a new account )
After taking the battery out and restarting it, it went into the htc load screen and then glitched out again.
(had images uploaded onto IMGUR but I can't like to them because it's a new account )
I'm able to get into the HBOOT menu fine and it says the following:
VISION PUT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT - 0.85.0013
MICROP-0425
RADIO-26.10.04.03_M
eMMC-boot

I have tried downloading and loading 4 different PC10IMG.zip(s), none of which have worked for reasons such as:
CID INCORRECT! UPDATE FAILED!
One of the PC10IMG.zip that I used seemed to load fine(?), no error message was shown but it went back to HBOOT after checking the zip and there's no change to the state of the phone.
I installed ADB on my computer and the adb drivers for my phone installed fine but adb devices doesn't detect my phone. I'm unable to get into the usb debugging menu to turn debugging on which I'm guessing doesn't help.
I also installed fastboot which detects the phone fine.
Any suggestions?! Really stuck, pretty sure the phone's not under warranty any more (I've had it for over 2 years and took it apart once to try fix a broken headphone jack, to no success might I add).

[Q] VS98512b downgrade with FlashTool stuck in "Waiting for connection"

I am trying to downgrade my LG G3 VS98512b so I can root it. I am running Windows 7 Professional Edition in a VM on an elementary OS host. I am following this guide: androidrootz.com/2014/07/how-to-unroot-lg-g3-all-variants.html
I have gotten to step 19, but I cannot get past the "Waiting for connection" stage. The device manager tells me "This device cannot start. (Code 10)." It does this shortly after FlashTool starts waiting; before that, the device is working fine.
I believe I have correctly installed all of the drivers I need, and I am using the LG connector that came with my phone. I have no idea what the problem is. Please advise.
I had that problem when you get to waiting for connection unplug usb lead from phone then reconnect it and it detects it and finishes the job.....
Sadly, that isn't working. When I try unplugging/replugging the first time, I get the waiting message. If I try again while the message is up, some more messages flash by and FlashTool says "Download FAIL!! (0 sec)." The other messages are
Code:
PID: NULL
IMEI: NULL
Model :
DLL : VS985
BIN : VS98510B_03.TOT
SWV :
SWOV :
Model Information Check FAIL!
00000000
This all happens within about a second of unplugging my phone. I've tried using a different USB port on my computer, and I've tried waiting varying amounts of time between unplugging and replugging my phone. While this is happening, my phone doesn't change at all; it just keeps the "Firmware Update" screen. I'm also using VirtualBox version 4.3.26, if that makes any difference.
I have the same problem !
Did u fixe it ?

Bricked..... or not... Help?

So, I have a Nexus 5x (32gb) which had the bootloop of death. I flashed the correct boot.img from the BLOD thread. I have done this a few times on 16gb versions with no issues. However in this instance the phone decided not to reboot.
All I'm left with is a device which can't load anything. No bootloader, no download mode, nada, nothing.
However, when I connect the phone to my computer, it recognises the device is connected. But it's not in adb or fastboot mode and the device manager only shows Unknown usb device (device descriptor request failed).
Any and all help appreciated, thanks
