MotoX (xt1575) Excessive Battery Drain when in motion - LineageOS Questions & Answers

Some kind of GPS battery drain happens on my MotoX (Clark). If I'm standing still, no problem but when I get in the car, it seems to be using position often. Phone gets hot so it's trying to do something.
I've been freezing apps with Titanium Backup but no luck finding the culprit so far.

[Q] Network reception and battery drain

Hi
I have some battery drain issues with my phone that I think are somehow related to my network data reception.
I am on possibly the ****tiest network that exists in Australia (Three) with an unmodified stock Desire HD. Coupled with the fact that the building I work in seems to be made of kryptonite I find that if I move more than a few metres from a window I get no reception.
Anyway the toilets are in the centre of the building (with no reception whatsoever).
I have recently been in the habit of playing Angry Birds when on a toilet-break. Afterwards I have experienced rapid battery drain for the rest of the day - even though Angry Birds is not running (yes I checked thoroughly). My battery would likely be in the red before 6pm, with no other significant usage. This has been happening for weeks inconsistently.
A bit of experimentation has led me to discover that if I open Angry Birds again when in an area with data reception the battery drain afterwards does not occur. With light use my battery will last well into the evening before going yellow.
I have a theory that Angry Birds is trying and failing to make a data connection (for ads presumably). This must result in some kind of process or thread sitting in the background invisibly sucking the life from my battery.
Some non-rigourous testing indicates that this problem maybe also occur when using the Dolphin Browser.
So I have the following questions:
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?
Is it Angry Birds? Dolphin? Sense? Android?
What can I do about it?
I have noticed that battery drain is proportional to network signal strength. If you spend most of your time in an area with no/weak/fluctuating signal strength, the phone will go on hyperdrive trying to make a connection. The only reasonable solution I would recommend is to switch to airplane mode during those situations/scenarios.
Try it out and play Angry Birds while on the can while Airplane mode is active. You should notice a huge improvement.
Thanks junta for your suggestion.
The behaviour that I am describing, though, is different.
The reception is the same between having long and short battery life.
My experience is that if I use an application when there is no reception it seems to trigger the short battery life scenario.

It may also be due to the fact that some application does seek for Google Ads Support, hence is always searching for data connection to download the ads.?

Crazy battery drain when listening to music

Hey guys am I the only one who is getting extreme battery drain when listining to music and using the phone for anything else at the same time. I use battery monitor widget and i see the drain going into the 600's which is crazy high.
Just to make it clear, data is on bluetooth and wifi off screen on auto brightness and signal is 3-4 bars ie ok .
The phone bottom gets very hot and the battery percentage drops like a falling rock. Is something wrong with my phone or does anyone else see that kind of thing?
I am new to the SG3 and also wondering if its something specific to samsung phones as i never had issues like that with my HTC yes the battery would drain faster with music on but nothing like it is now.

Where is your music coming from? Is your data connection 3G or 4G?
If you are streaming music (Pandora, Spotify, etc.) on 3G/4G, especially if you are driving, your phone will become warm and it will drain your battery. 3G is especially prone to this since it isn't very efficient for data transfer (meaning the phone has to work harder to send/receive data). Additionally, if your screen is on for most of the time you are streaming music, it will cause even more drain.
Different functions of the phone will drain the battery differently. The screen can drain the battery pretty fast, so if you are looking for good battery life, it should be off as much as possible. From my testing, 3G data transfer is pretty harsh on the battery, even more so if the signal is weak (1X can be even harder on the battery than 3G).
Hope this helps!
First of all thanks for the quick reply.
That being said sorry i didnt clarify data is 3g (LTE is turned off as its not available in my area) but my music is stored on my sdcard. and im sitting in a chair in a doctors office so no movement and data is just on as i have my email being pushed to my phone .
As for the reason why im saying its the music playing thats causing the drain is that sitting in the same place doing the same things with my phone (ie reading a book) it doenst even drain a quarter as bad as when doing the same exact thing but just plugging in headphones and listining to music saved on the SDcard. so with the only diefference being that I feel i can justifiably point a finger at it as the culprit.
Hmm...that is strange. I haven't listened to much music from my SD card, honestly. I agree that reading a book should train more battery than listening to music from the SD card (using headphones with the screen off). Maybe the decoding of the files themselves is causing a high amount of CPU use, hence the battery drain?
I would recommend downloading GSam Battery monitor as it will give better battery stats. This might help shed some light on the issue. Meanwhile, I will have to play around on my phone.
thanks for the recommendation i was looking for a program like thatg but didnt know any names. Please see what happens when you play music and tell me what your experience is so i can know if its just me or is it a common occurence.
I keep my music on my card as well. I don't find terrible drain unless I'm boosting the sound for any reason. It will drain slightly faster than just doing normal activities but not super severe.
what do you mean by " boosting your sound" ? do you mean the equalizer?
Idk I haven't had this probable with my GSIII.
same problem in my HD desire
Hi docnas,
I'm searching for this problem time ago in HTC HD desire forums but I'm not finding anything. I know this post is a little bit old but, did you find out how to fix this problem? Today, listening to music from my SD card + whatsapp the battery drains 30% in 10 minutes.
thanks guys!

Wakelock WifiOffDelayIfNotUsed

Greetings
Battery life on this phone is actually quite good, especially compared to the nexus 5. I'm not sure it's having a massive negative effect but the wakelock WifiOffDelayIfNotUsed seems to be running for an unnecessary amount of time, and all gains to battery life are not unwanted. Searching both this site and Google seems to indicate this wakelock exists to sleep the WiFi connection after a certain time period. The fix was suggested to switch off this sleeper but I cannot find any such option in the menus for this phone. Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks.
+1
Bringing this up again. This wakelock is getting out of hand on my G4. It's been draining my battery like crazy.
Any fix?

Location battery drain/heating up

Two week old G4.
I'm having strange battery drain on my 1 hour rail commute. See attached image (its the 'steppy' pattern before 8.43am).
The phone heats up, drains a lot and generally acts weird in this time. Usually it's just in a case in my pocket.
I'm running V20D but it did the same thing when I was on Lollipop.
I've tried turning off the location services for the commute and this definitely helps, but is still noticeable. Going airplane mode solves it...
...is this because of patchy coverage on this journey? Seems strange to affect things so noticeably?
Thanks for any insights you might have

Battery life and heat problems

I've had an S7 active for about a year...though I've had 2 replacements. The first S7A that I received in July/August last year would not update from AT&T. I tried factory resetting umpteen times, but every time it would attempt to download the next most recent update, it would fail. AT&T gave me a warranty replacement that started seeing terrible battery life within 2 months of use. The Second replacement I still have today and have been using for 10ish months.*
Currently I've got the following issues with it-
1-Battery life. Even with pure black overlays, running in battery saver with data saver, samsung sleep on all apps, background processes disabled for all but Android system and Hangouts, no FB or FB messenger, no Always on Display, Aggressive Doze enabled, always in FHD or less, the battery life is awful *IF* I use the phone. With the screen on at any usable brightness, the battery use after a few minutes jumps to ~10-20%/hr. Additionally, streaming videos or even using Google News can cause the phone to heat up to a quite hot temperature right around the power button. I've tried clearing cache after every OTA update, and I've just tried a full discharge and recharge(typically I recharge at 20-30% and stop charging around 80-90%), but it's still a hog.*
What's odd is that idle battery life isn't too unreasonable on Wifi/4G, it sits around 2-4%/hr(measured with GSAM Pro) typically. Even at home though, where I'm in airplane mode with WiFi on, the phone exhibits the same dismal use if I have the screen on.*
2-Heat. This is related to*#1*. If I use the phone for anything intensive, games, lots of web browsing, News feed with lots of screen scrolling, the phone gets HOT on the right side near the power button.*
3- Recent apps button and back button are getting mushy. I'm not rough on this device. It's still in great cosmetic condition for the number of outdoor activities I've taken it on. I've never experienced a rough drop onto any outdoor surface. It's fallen on our soft faux wood floor, but only onto the rounded, rubberized corners of the phone. Still, the buttons are caving in toward the fingerprint reader. The phone is out of warranty now, so I can't do anything about it. I would love to know if it's a setup issue. So can anyone still following this and that still has the phone and is still happy with it's performance share their setup?
In addition to the things i mentioned, I'm also using Evie launcher, and all-in-one gestures. I'm not sure that these are causing high use, as they never show up in GSAM or in the Default Battery Stats.*
Here's a for instance- I was at 79% battery, and let the phone update 15 apps. I am in a full signal wifi and 4g LTE service area. The phone lost 11% battery updating the apps in less than 5 minutes and it also became very hot.
