Oneplus 3 Oxygen 3.2.8 update low in call volume - OnePlus 3 Questions & Answers

Hi all,
I'm using my OP3 since I purchased it in June'16. Never faced any issue with the phone regarding in-call volume. But after updating my phone to Oxygen 3.2.8 OTA last week I'm facing very low in-call volume. I'm struggling to hear the other person even in a quiet room. Gently tried to remove the dust on earpiece but no improvement. Please advice any help or modification. anyone else facing the similar issue? I see lot of threads on similar issue with older OP devices. Is it a bug with latest oxygen update? Thanks.

Thanks. I can hear a little bit but not as before the update. Though I'm not very sure if it is due to latest OOS udpate or any hardware problem but my handset didn't had any such impact which can damage the hardware. So I'm clueless that what can be the issue.

Have you tried a reset or a reflash of oos or community build? If the problem is still there after that, it could be a hardware fault.

Sorry. It was silly dust sitting under the earpiece. Had to go to oneplus care and got it cleaned up. Now I can hear it as clear as before. Thanks.

Mine is fine

HTC 10 weird noise - coil whine?

My brand new HTC 10 does sometime make weird high frequencie noises. I hear this when i put the phones back close to my ear, but not att all times.
I've read a bit about coil whine and from the sound of it I suspect my HTC 10 suffer from it. Does anyone else experience the same problems?

Someone else reported this and the latest update fixed it for them. Have you checked to see if there's an update for your device?

I have the latest update. I have difficulties believing this is a software problem. I do not know for sure but I am quite sure it is a hardware problem.

Is this the one you are talking about? If so, yes I do have that problem aswell, and didn't notice it until now. So thanks for that But the problem I was talking about is similar but it doesn't come out from the speaker, just the back of the phone. Therefor I believe it might be "coil whine".

Simple fix, don't put the back of your phone to your ear. Not helpful I know but I couldn't resist. Forgive me.

Do you still hear it when your screen is at full brightness?

Actually I heard it the first time when I were resting with the phone maybe 20-30 cm away from my ear. So it is not that hard to hear.

Actually It does NOT. I did not think it was the same problem as the one earlier spoken about in this thread but now I do think it is. However, the sound does not come from the speaker, only it is rather easy to hear because of the wholes in the body of the phone. The sound seems to come from slightly below the HTC logo.
Here's the other thread describing the high pitch noise: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/help/whining-noise-speaker-low-brightness-t3376476
Yeah I was going crazy about this until I installed the 1.53 OTA. Completely stopped the noise.
I believe it was something low level that had to do with the display. Probably a kernel fix.

Is there a difference between regular firmware update from the settings menu and OTA? Becasue i have the latest update from the settings menu and i still hear the sound. Sorry, just switched from an iphone.

Nope that is the OTA. Whats your software number, and what country are you in?
Run a stress test to see if it gets worse. That's when coil whine will be most noticeable. If it does not change in frequency or amplitude, it's not cool whine.

Yes I had the noise on that firmware. If you haven't received update yet, it must not be available in your country just yet.
But don't worry too much, it's not a hardware issue. The 1.53 update fixes it. Don't make the same mistake I did and order a replacement lol.
Your choices are either wait for the update, or unlock your bootloader and flash the 1.53 firmware.

Haha, alright! I was very close to order a second replacement. The first one was because of a loose home button though. But thank you very much, I'll just sit tight and hope they release it soon. Weird how they don't release it for everyone at the same time.

Interesting since it does not sound like the sound is coming from the speaker but instead from close to the HTC logo. What can produce a sound like that if not a speaker?

It sounded similar to how lights sound on a dimmer dimmed all the way down. I'm guessing it had something to do with current level supplied to the display, since the higher the brightness, the quieter it gets. I believe electricians call this 'lamp sing'
The more I listened I felt like it was coming from the bottom of the display, near the fingerprint scanner.
Either way just glad they fixed it.

Interesting. Mine sound much louder below the HTC logo than it does by the fingerprint scanner. But yeah, nice that they seem to have fixed the problem.

HTC 10 Speaker Crackle/Distortion...

Hi guy,
Not sure if anyone else has had this (can't find anything here, or with search engine, so starting to worry it's not software problem), but just the other night, was surfing then all of a sudden, I get this loud horn type noise from my phone... Certainly woke me up! Then stopped... Then no sooner did it stop, again it happened. I check, but my volume is almost at mute. So I close Chrome, and re-open, and haven't heard it since, but now I have noticed my speakers crackle and distort on certain frequencies.
I'm hoping this is just some software issue, that hopefully I can just update, or re-set, but I haven't come across anyone else having this problem.
Please help
Thankyou, O.

Do you have any mods (audio) installed ?
Are you rooted? Running a custom ROM ?
We need a little more information..
If you're completely stock then no it's not normal and I'd put my money on a hardware defect..
If you are rooted with a custom ROM and perhaps some mods installed it still doesn't sound normal and I'd try to go back to a custom but stock type ROM.
Least then you can see; if it replicates, then it's more than likely a hardware issue.
Did u push the speakers a little too much with a mod? Over amplify them or similar? Any water damage? Drops?
From the outset it doesn't look good but until you / we can answer the above we won't know more.
Hopefully it's just a mod gone wrong.
If not then it'll be a defect covered by warranty anyway..So a return to stock and RMA will get it sorted, so a hindrance but not then end of the world.
Let us know.

Hi Dladz,
Sorry I didn't put more info in before.
I'm totally stock (running 7.0). Not running away mods, or audio changes.
I suspect that it is just that, a hardware issue, I was just hoping not. I've never had an issue with any of my HTCs' before, nor have any of my friends. The build quality has always been the best you can get.
I guess it's back to the supplier it goes :/
Thanks for the response,
O.

Ah that is a shame and no worries, I've skipped info before as i'm sure others have and will
I wouldn't let it put you off HTC they do make some rugged devices and I swear by them, speak to a rep and see what RMA would take then get it done mate
All will be well, this wasn't your fault, I'm just thinking what could've caused it if anything?
Playing at loud volume constantly, music or audio with frequencies which put stress on the speaker??? Nah I dunno mate, either way it's not your fault so get yourself a nice replacement
Good luck fella. :good:

Thanks Dladz,
I've loved HTC from the start, and still do. I recommend them to everyone I know and meet. This is just one fault in the entire history of mine and everyone I know who has or had one! I think that is a pretty good fault rate.
I'm already hankering for the HTC Ocean ? Can't wait ?
Cheers,

I had this problem too on my HTC 10 one month and a half ago . I was on leedroid with nebula kernel and no other sound mod and all of the sudden the bottom speaker started to crackle and make many distortioned sounds . I suspected to be the kernel so I asked the developer , but he said that he hasn't touched anything sound related . No one , but only me, had this problem reported on kernel thread . I asked on ROM thread but the same.
Now I see that someone on purely stock had this problem. Only thing I can say is that where I live 2 months ago was a really cold winter and that affected the speaker.
I had send it back to repair services and now it's all good

I just hope they don't put the home button on the back!
It is this same issue that´s making me want to upgrade from my otherwise still great HTC One M8. A distorting top speaker that the repair shop couldn't fix (they tried 3 new speakers, to no avail). It´s very annoying and I am waiting to see if the HTC 11 ticks everything I want in a smartphone:
- Full Metal Chassis
- Stereo Front Speakers
- 64GB of UFS 2.1 Storage
- 4GG of RAM
- Support to Micro SD cards
- Snapdragon 835
- Great low light camera with IOS (like the Pixel)
- Preferably with water resistance
Otherwise, I am buying the HTC 10, which is much cheaper now since it´s been almost a year since it was launched.
I dont understand why we dont even have a Evan Blass rumor about the supposed upcoming HTC 11, that is making me a bit worried...
Cheers
I have the same problem.
Now if anyone know what is the certain solution for this problem?

Is there any solution for low earpiece volume?

Its really annoying for me that earpiece volume is very low as compare to every single phone i had in the past. I had to turn on speaker to hear the caller on other side especially when i am outside . I dont think my headset is faulty is its my second pixel XL phone and had same issue with previous one
Is there any solution for this?
That's very weird, cause mine is the loudest phone I have ever had in terms of earpiece volume in calls! In fact in winter I reduce a one or two notch from top cause its so loud in a quiet room it sounds like loudspeaker is on at low volume!

Very strange ..dont know why its not same for me ..
I gave my GF my "old" Pixel XL when I moved to the 2 XL. She is an iPhone convert and she complains on low earpiece volume as well. Compared to the Pixel2 XL it's indeed very low and there was nothing I managed to do to increase it. I suspect than the 8 or 8.1 updates are to be blamed somehow. Anyone figured this out?
You need to contact Google support via the handset. They do a few bull**** tests and then you demand a replacement or full refund. They email you the necessary to return the handset and the second they receive it they ship the replacement handset. In the UK warranty starts from when you receive the replacement device. I received third handset in 15 months last week so now covered until 2020. It's a known issue to Google and it's a combination of software and hardware issue. This third handset has features that never worked before on the other two handsets. I posted phone Wednesday morning and had replacement Friday afternoon.

I am having the same issue without any resolution in sight. It used to be loud but now it is pathetically low in volume. I also feel that the latest Android Oreo update broke the speaker volume.

I have found a solution which is flashing Elementary kernel and getting EX kernel manager from where you can increase the volume of ear piece
Hi,
I'm currently having the issue, which started with Oreo a few months ago, after some update, I think.
I've now updated to P, July 5th, and I still have the issue.
I cannot upgrade the kernel, etc, as it's a Verizon XL so I cannot root it.
Any ideas on increasing ear volume for calls?

Sound popping with stock notification alerts?

Is anyone else having this issue? With some of the stock notification alert sounds I am getting an ugly popping sound once in a while. It sounds like the notification sound file is jacked up, or like the speakers can't handle it.
When I test music on youtube/spotify/etc it all sounds just fine. Seems to only happen with stock notification alert sounds.
Same here. It happens to me in the same way as you describe it.
Sometimes? That's already if it vibrates from the notifications. That should be why you don't hear it while listening to songs. Dunno why it doesn't sound strange while it's ringing.
I wonder what causes this, and why EVERYONE doesn't have this issue.

had the same issues, even from the day one i bought it, brand new. it always irritated me, as on my iphone i had no such things., always sounded perfect.
this one has bad speakers also, the call quality is not that great.. but also adding choppy notification to that, from my opinion is unacceptable.
i have blu_spark kernel and it seams it is fixed now, i will try with a custom 8.1 rom also.
I wonder what happened to "never settle" lol
Sorry OT.
Anyway, i hope they fix this issue. As you said crappy speakers at least make that popping sound go away
