He was just lucky with the phone. It din't work on me.

Yeah but if we could figure out how he was able to do that it might help other people with the Verizon version unlock their bootloader as well

I was able to do it on mine. It is a Verizon phone with a Cricket Sim. How would I go about unlocking it further to see if I can?

Man I hope that Verizon orders get backed up so badly that they are forced to ship out Google Store models instead of Verizon models just to meet the demand.

I preordered the Black XL 128g last week and 2 Verizon reps told me that all the 128g phone's will be sent to customers straight from Google. So I'm hoping mine is unlockable.
I ordered the Verizon model by the way.
The guy at a local Verizon store said they are only getting the 32 gig models to sell in store. Then he also said all 128 gigs are fulfilled from google.

Mine is greyed out. Ordered 128g from Verizon with Verizon sim.

I would try to unlock it before inserting the sim.

Me as well, 128 Black XL shipped from PA and greyed out. Boo

Verizon sim or no, the vzw version has the bootloader unlock greyed out. I have a feeling all these "lucky stories" are just stories.

To clarify any confusion. Any "verizon" ones obtained through review channels (meaning you get the phone free to review it) are all in reality google unlocked bootloader ones (shipped directly by google in reality) with just a verizon sim inside. They do not apply to the real retail verizon ones, that are confirmed to have it locked. Just saying that here so people don't confuse other ones with "i have a verizon one and its unlocked bootloader".

Received a free Galaxy Nexus from Google!!

The company I work for is a direct partner with Google. They were in our office today for a quarterly update. While they were here they gave a free unlocked Galaxy Nexus to the client leads of the top 3 (highest ad spend) accounts. Luckily I was one of the 3.
I am coming from the Samsung Galaxy S2. Right now I have to say that I am surprised at how similar the two phones actually are. But I am loving the full ICS experience found on the Nexus.
Anyway, just wanted to share my story. I'm excited to see how the development section for this phone turns out.

Yeah, I live in Denver. It's funny you said that. One of the guys who won one is on Verizon and he tried to activate it with them. Verizon said it wouldn't work on their network. He asked Google if he could swap his unlocked GN for a Verizon GN and they told him they didn't have any with them or at headquarters.

Haha I've actually acquired about 10 of them over the past couple of years. Unfortunately, this is my favorite one to date. I have a few black ones and red ones I don't wear if anyone wants them. One medium and the rest are larges.
I actually have a LTE version that I want to swap for a GSM one. I have T-Mobile and signing up for a Verizon plan would cost me over $20 a month extra. PM'ing you. I'm still debating going with Verizon, if only to keep the 32GB of space.
Congrats enjoy Google
Congratulations. I'm jealous.

64GB is AT&T exclusive in the States. Not available in Canada. Other markets/carriers may carry it though.. lucky [email protected] lol
Man - if they combined a Qi charger and micro-SD card slot into a case, I would pay anything for it.
And make it so the USB cable makes a u-shaped bend around to the back of the phone so it doesn't add any "height" to the phone.
You could probably do the whole thing adding only a few mm to the thickness, and nothing to the other dimensions...
lol i was an early backer of this. i backed it right when i got my phone. already have a 64gb sd card waiting for it. lols

Or maybe comes bootloader locked but a code will be provide it by google to unlocked it everywhere but verizon.
Thanks
I sure do hope the bootloader is able to be unlocked on vzw i like having the option even if i dont use it
sticky shi..., bootloader must be unlocked, especially for that price.
Anyway, I do not need Android phone without root.
There's a statement from Deutsche Telekom answering a query from a German tech blogger that Pixels bought via that provider will also be bootloader not unlockable.
I still doubt that cause they haven't done that before. We'll see and cross our fingers...

Using an unlocked variant on Verizon?

I don't know what the hardware differences are between the different carriers' models. Can I use either of the bootloader-unlockable/rootable variants (Sprint or T-Mo) on Verizon?
Failing that, has anyone started a bounty to get Verizon rooted and/or bootloader-unlocked?

I started one for Att but have since given up and switched to Sprint. So far I regret nothing. I guess being the two biggest carriers Att and Verizon have a little more push on what manufacturers can and can't do.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the T-Mobile model will work if you're lucky/patient enough to get it unlocked.

From looking at the spec sheets only the Verizon version will work on Verizon. All the other versions doesn't support band 13 by model numbers that in itself gives Verizon the power to block it even if you hack to unlock band 13.

Freaking Verizon really pisses me off, because I'm kinda stuck with them...
I've been with them for about 11 or 12 years or so and I'm grandfathered in on a very old unlimited data plan that's pretty cheap by today's standard and this being a flagship phone and all...
Anyway I had the pixel XL first and returned it because even it was locked down and got the z2 force just because of the moto mods.
Yeah VZW kinda sux...

The problem is OEMs. They don't want to put in band 13 on all their devices. If they did then Verizon has to comply with Block C rules. Since OEMs don't want to pay for licensing and put in code that Verizon has to open source. They would rather have Verizon pay for it then that comes with restrictions.

It will be SIM unlocked BUT you will have to pick a carrier and it will have the carrier goodies built in. There's no unlocked one without the carrier bloat and built in features. You have to pick Verizon to get it on Verizon iirc, but anywhere you buy the Verizon version it's unlocked anyway.

Best bet is go to Walmart and buy a cheap prepaid phone. Test it out where you travel a lot. Make some calls do some data. If everything is legit switch to T-Mobile if not you are not out much. That's what I did and I am glad i did. Saved myself $150 A month AND I can choose any device I want.

I takes a few weeks dude. They wait until the return period is over so you don't get a free $50. Last year with the home mini, it was right at 4 weeks if I remember right. So, it should come any day now.
I wouldn't be surprised if they wait the full six weeks in order to get past the Black Friday deals.

Found mine today
Yais! Hopefully mine is here today too! $50 Google home hub for the win!
I might use mine to buy another Pixel on black Friday and sell this one on swappa [emoji23]
J/k but seriously the price drop makes me feel like such a sucker for buying early. Oh well.

Check Google Pay, my credit showed up in the Google Pay app even though I didn't get any email or notification
Yeah! But buy what though?
But what are you all planning to buy with it? So far my options are the Pixel Stand or Skullcandy Riff. Leaning more towards the Riff, good reviews for $50, wireless & assistant too. As for the stand, they aren't that special, just another wireless stand. I see soon more certified and Made for Google wireless chargers coming in the future which could be cheaper than the Pixel stand.
Also, expires this Dec 31. So have to use it before that! So might just go for that Riff.

or you could buy 3 Google Cardboards..haha!
Got mine as well and while looking at stuff in the Google store to buy I came across this. I'm pissed, so I emailed their support to give me my free home hub.

Thinking about it now, I think I will write to them too.

Let us know what they say. I doubt they'll just hand you one but there's no harm in asking. Good luck!

Sweet. I got mine too. They didn't actually send me a notification that I received it, but it is showing in my account.

Good call! I haven't gotten an email yet, but after seeing this, I checked, and sure enough! Def getting a home hub for $50 next Thursday.

Let us know! I seriously doubt they'll honor this for anyone who bought earlier though. Next year I am definitely waiting for black Friday before buying the pixel 4xl...
Does this only apply to those who bought directly from google store?
