Google photos turns into nightmare sometimes. It sometimes eats data like a cake and drains battery. Reinstall it as said by another guy. Your device was continuously awake during entire period.

If you do have lots of pictures on phone or online on Google cloud, combined with a poor Internet connection, thats happening on photos. In the background it tries to download your cached pictures on phone as well uploading the ones from your gallery. It's a common "bug" I got in many picture managers with cloud storage. Had that with Dropbox, Quickpic and Photos from Google too... Sometimes even a clear data on them and/or cache can solve the problem.

And I thought updating apps was the sole defaulter .
Removed Google photos and the drain is no more ... Will not install it back for few weeks now
Thanks folks

I just purchased my LG G pro E988 model less then a month ago. My battery life was fine until a week ago when moderate usage only lasted me about 10 hours, before that, with moderate usage with 70% percent screen brightness, with the wifi on for 10 hours a day, whats-apping the whole day, the battery lasted me for about 30 hours till the next day! i only use whatsapp regularly. i dont play games or use facebook often nor i watch any videos. I tried everything from deleting some apps that i downloaded, force stop some apps,.. its still not working.. Anyone?? Help needed!! Attached here is the screenshot of my battery life graph...

Hi, I have included the battery usage here. everything looks normal, but there are times when "home" and "system UI" is also shown as using 2% or 3% of battery. The battery gets heated up and it drains even when im not using the phone. My home screen wallpaper was the default wallpaper then i changed it to my choice. A while after that, it changed by itself to the default one. I suspect there's some virus or malware running in the background...I tried using different kinds of anti virus to detect if theres any virus or malware, but all the anti virus apps didnt find any virus and said my phone is clean. like i mentioned earlier, i have already hard reset the phone 3-4 times already...but its still the same, the battery gets heated up and the battery drains like hell when im not using it....any suggestions??

The second screen shot shows "home" and "system UI" using part of the battery percentage. Ive not seen "home" and "system UI" shown using battery before this when i was using the phone for the first two weeks.
Hi dude
I had same problem!
try a factory reset your problem will be solved!
your device cant enter standby so use many charges!
I tested in a g pro e988 that drain every night 40percent of charge without use, so its solved!
backup your data and try factory reset!
try it i hope help you!
try wakelock detector. your phone does not go to sleep. with wakelock detector you can see what app is the REAL cuprit and close it.

Lost 50% Battery Overnight

I've had the phone for near a week now and this is the first time doze has failed me. Left it alone at 10pm with about 50% left and looks like it went to zero in about four hours. (screenshot) I've tested other nights and it worked as expected -- wifi and cell coming on and off periodically. When checking usage, I was disturbed to find Facebook took up 25% of my battery. Is there some way Facebook is overriding doze?

Wow. Looks like it was constantly awake during that time. You didn't happen to turn on photo syncing with Facebook?

Facebook is one of the worst when it comes to battery drains, I stopped using it and i just use a browser to stay logged in. Snapchat is also pretty bad, I think it was top 3 in my list while I slept earlier. First time happening, i turned off location on snapchat, ill see if that helps

Same here. Facebook did this to me back when I had an HTC Hero, killed my battery in 8 hours no problem. The moment they changed the application to a "service" and had those wake-lock bugs I ditched it, never looked back.
No application should install itself as an always-on service unless its there for push messages. I decided that having my phone last all day was more important than getting facebook messages immediately.

I stopped using Snapchat a while ago for that reason. Facebook, however, never really gave me a problem on my N6. It usually hovered around 6-7% use. No app is worth that much drain, let alone Facebook. If this is a normal occurrence, I'll probably just uninstall it.

Hopefully this was a one time occurrence since it worked fine on my N6. I've got no problem getting rid of it though, because like you said, I'd rather have my phone last all day (or night in this case).
Second Night Update
While I agree the Facebook app is bad, it looks like it was not the culprit. Uninstalled, doze again failed to kick in overnight and drained 18% over about seven hours. Not as bad as the 50% the first time, but still no bueno. It looks like Android OS kept it awake for seven hours. I know doze is pretty new, but there are some smart people here; anyone got any ideas/theories as to what's going on and remedy? Screenshots

Good to know I'm not alone! Even after uninstalling Facebook I've got the same problem with Android OS keeping it on. I'm considering clearing the cache and see if that changes anything.
Wow you have a perfectly diagonal line. Try a battery monitoring app. Might have more useful information as to what is draining overnight.

I did a factory reset and installed ~10 of my most used apps instead of restoring all apps and it's been sleeping fine now, no wakelocks
I also turned off WiFi and Bluetooth scanning, location services are on battery saving, and Google location reporting is off
I am willing to bet there are going to be some hiccups with marshmallow or even some newer hardware features of the phone and some apps until everything gets up to speed.
Just wondering, what build are you guys on? MDA89E or MDB08I?? I'm on MDA89E
I got 08I immediately after turning it on, Ive always lost like 1-2% overnight.
Maybe that is what the last-minute update was for, fixing that bug that you (unfortunately) found.

Media server Battery drain

Hey guys, im currently using the exynos variant of the note 7. I've faced significant battery drain and have already trained the clear cache and factory reset method. Getting better battery life but found out that Media Server is still draining my battery. I have tried disabling chrome, unmounting and removing the sd card, I cant find media server in my applications to force stop it. So i really have no idea what to do next, media server is still the highest running on my battery usage. Anyone else facing the same problem? Any idea what to do?
Im new here so i cant post any images or links. But its at 25% at the top.
It's trying to read your memory card. But it should go away after 15 minutes of inserting the SD card. If it keeps going then there is something in your card it has a hard time reading so it keeps trying. You may have to move your stuff out temporarily and then reformat the card with the phone. Then copy everything back.

Wow really? That's new. I think it's time for a factory reset. It will probably fix both of your issue. I know it fixed my battery drain problem. Run it for a few a few hours without installing all your apps. Install as you need them but don't restore it's data from another back up. Start from scratch.

It's possible I have some corrupted files in my SD card. Will try reformatting it and then reporting back. I've factory reset my phone too many times already.
I have an s7 and have exactly the same issue. Some people have drawn a link to chrome and browsing on media heavy websites. Which for my own use actually makes sense. Phone would stutter on XDA etc get super hot, media server would be top battery drain, then phone would crash horribly and be unresponsive. I switched to my Nexus 5x today. But after now learning it could be chrome I'm gonna give my s7 it's final shot

Same problem here. Media server sometimes draining 35% of my battery.
I've no SD card.
Heavy use of chrome.
Will try ditching chrome for a couple of days before resorting to a factory reset.
Have you guys tried greenify? Even if non root it works great. I set it with nova launcher to run greenify and lock screen and turn off when I double tap.

Hi amigo,
OK so from when I sent that original message to today, I did what I read, and stopped using chrome. I only use Samsung internet - which is actually quite good - and the issue hasn't come up once. My phone hasn't crashed, or even got hot once.
From this, and my own experience I'd be confident in saying it's an issue with the Exynos processor and chrome.
This is often caused by Google Photo's or Dropbox or any application that automatically uploads your pictures/videos/files to a cloud service. I have found that this either settles after a few days or you might have a lot of large files constantly changing.

Thanks - sounds hopeful ?
Was trying to figure out why 4 hr screen time was all I was getting. Only heavy chrome use and some streaming to Chromecast. Used to get twice as much from my note 4. Disabled chrome, started using samsung internet and surprised at how much faster it Is, amd smoother.....
Giving it some juice and will try again. Thanks for the advice.

high drain from cell standby sounds like bad reception.
last time a cell tower went down in my city all phones dropped to a standby time of 5-8 hours.(just standby, so not even turning the screen on once)

Interesting. I've always had a problem with battery life and I live in an area of bad reception...
What's the theory behind this? The phone spends power continually searching for reception?
multiple reasons.
1: the further the phone needs to send a signal, the more power it sends to its transmitter.
bad or no reception means it needs to send at full strength.
2: while trying to search for a cell tower the receiver/transmitter is constantly working overtime, drawing power similar to what it would draw in a phone call.
3: while the receiver/transmitter is busy, it's also keeping your phone's processor awake.
In 3 hours of standby I have lost 3% of battery after disabling chrome. ...now 4%. The phone is like an ice block too, yet it was always quite warm. I used to lose 7 to 10% per hour which i was putting down to the phone learning etc.
I had the same media server battery drain issues. I narrowed my issue down to chrome. Used ez package Disabler to stop Google chrome and am now using Samsung internet and my battery drain of media server is gone! It's unbelievable how much another scrolling is with Samsung internet browser over Google chrome.
Sent from my SM-N930F using Tapatalk
Quick update: having ditched chrome my battery is behaving beautifully. Lasting all day and with five or six hours screen time.
Media server still crops up but it's using 5% rather than 35% of the battery.
Obviously I don't know for sure that chrome was to blame.

Thanks to all those who gave advice on this thread, btw.
If you want to keep using Chrome you can try rolling back to an earlier version (uninstall updates) it seems to be a recent update causing the issues.
I'd like to give Samsung Internet a go, but Chrome has all my log in info and password for websites. Is there a way I can import that info?

Battery Draining by Android OS

Hey all, I've had this phone for a while now and I've been loving the performance and the battery life.
But since yesterday a problem came up. Normally i get around 8-11 hours of Screen on time. Now some "Android OS" is draining the battery real fast like it's cutting it down to 5 hours screen on time with the same amount of usage.
I've tried closing the apps, doesn't seem to fix the problem.
Just to back up the post, Its not android system. That's different and it doesn't consume battery this much. It's something called "Android OS" and its running continuously off screen as well.
It's also using a lot of RAM :/

No xD i fixed it deleted all the apps. Didn't know which one was problematic but it seems to have fixed the problem. I'm actually getting double battery life now xD
My poor MZP has suddenly started showing a dramatic drop in performance and battery life. I suspect this is because of Magisto which had a setting that automatically uploads videos / photos to create movies. I've disabled this now and hope to see an improvement.
I've also deleted all apps that were very aggressive with notifications - The Domino's India app was the worst offender.
Hopefully this will make a difference.

battery draining fast-screenshot attached

so i'm trying to figure out why my battery is draining so rapidly. I'm charging once and rarely twice during the day at this point. I'm running the latest and greatest from leedroid if that matters. attached a screenshoot for reference.
Anything else you need to help me with this just ask and I will answer. Thanks!
There doesn't look anything too bad from that screenshot. Have you got gsam battery monitor ? Try that and see what ' app use ' shows. I had a problem for a day or two on the same rom ( nothing rom related ) and no amount of reboots solved it. For some reason the kernel was keeping the phone awake 100% . Sometimes it's an app or a download or some media on the device, if it's a recent problem check everything that's been down or uploaded and any new media or app on the device. A wipe would likely fix it but try and narrow it down first. I think my issue was a play music download but can't be sure as I cleared cache, dalvic cache and data for several apps.
It's now back to usual ( 5 hrs SOT )

That's slightly high but not drastic. There's a ton of factors for battery drain, what's the 'held awake' time versus the sleep and how much SOT do you get ?.
Another way to narrow things down is to leave it with data off for several hours to see if the drain stops.
There's dozens of options on Leedroid which could change battery life , including the kernel options in aroma . Ambient display can drain battery as can some of the ways to turn on the device.
You could try to wipe all the caches, clear data for Google apps and maybe dirty flash the ROM and see if things improve.
Maybe also try the battery calibration as detailed in other threads. There's a possibility the battery may be degrading of course, check the thread for that and see what your capacity is now.
Do you have the Facebook app installed. For some reason, I seem to notice battery drain more with some Facebook updates. I don't know what it is but my phone will easily last a day, Facebook update arrives and phone needs charging twice a day. Another Facebook update arrives and its ok again.
I think something is really wrong with the 10 lately. My battery goes down like crazy as well, I first thought it was my device and performed a factory reset, but still the same issue. Now I see that there are a lot of people mentioning the same thing the last few days.. Can't be a coincidence that my battery went bad along with others' at the same time..

i have ambient display off, i also selected one of the battery saving kernels. i had about 10 thousand wakelocks coming from powermanangerservice.wakelock this morning. the sucky part is i got frustrated and just uninstalled better battery stats after seeing that. i know that wakelock means there are tons of partial wakelocks.... it's just becoming a pain. hate my phone right now.

Mine was bad again yesterday but back to good today. Only change was a Google play update ( pushed by google, I assume play services as it updates itself not through the store ). Maybe see if there is a more recent play services that helps you.
I thought power management services was the turning on of the screen/device but may be wrong , do you have wake gestures enabled ?

The important thing to note my phone rarely get's used. text throughtout the day and video on the train ride home. music. i think that's pretty basic. what're you guys thoughts?
