I bought it today from negrielectronics, yay yay yay! But wat abt warranty? Do I trust negrielectronics to honor their 1yr warranty policy,or repair or whatever?is that reasonable,or mind bendingly expensive? Or I could go 4 square trade for 99$,plus 99$ deductible each claim! Or toughcell insurance with 48$ for 2yrs and n 75$ deductible.
2 things:
1.I have next to nothing experience with warranty on unlocked phones.
2.I just need this 4 4 months,I leave on a 3 yr long assignent out of the country come April. So I can get squaretrade prorated refund,but no refund on toughcell. On top of that squaretrade deductible is really high.
So should I try to wing it with negrielectronics or get something?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but Squaretrade won't allow a warranty for a grey market device like this one. The problem with US Retailers like Expansys or Negri is they have the ship the phone back to the UK for warranty service. This can take a few weeks so it would be good to have a backup phone in case. I would assume these days the percentage of smart phones that ever need warranty service are quite low. The other route should you have a problem is finding a local cell phone repair shop.
Just out of curioustiy will HTC honor the warranty? I got.it of eBay from a store and am curious if we get it?

Yes, you should have a 1 years warranty on it. You can call them and ask. Its a pain to use. You have to mail in your phone and its takes 2-3 weeks to get it back.

Expansys-USA says all the One X International units they sell have a standard 2 year warranty from HTC, not one.
There's a two years repair warranty from HTC. But they take like 2 weeks and sometimes don't fix.

Samsung's policy is similar. Here's some advice on grey market phones. If you buy it from an authorized reseller in the country of intended sale you're covered. Handtec and Clove in the UK are authorized resellers and you have the benefit of a 24 month (vs. 12 month) warranty. Negri and Expansys-USA also handle warranty repairs for their customers by sending the phone to one of their overseas affiliates. Buy it from NewEgg, Amazon, eBay, and CL and you're on your own; meaning there is no warranty. And if they tell you differently they're lying.
SquareTrade covers grey market phones but you'll still need a receipt. They work with eBay and Amazon so purchases there may qualify. You'd need to verify that with ST.
Grey market phones aren't for everybody.

1) If you bought the phone in the U.S. the warranty is automatically void because it was sold outside the country of intended sale. HTC doesn't offer unlocked phones in the U.S. therefore no reseller is authorized to sell it. A U.S. receipt for a device not offered in the U.S. isn't going to cut it with HTC.
2) Whether from an individual or a reseller, it is highly unlikely that whoever you bought it from got it directly from HTC. Most likely they purchased it from an overseas reseller or distributor who themselves may not be authorized by HTC. Therefore, in HTC eyes, you're not the original purchaser.
The manufacturers don't want people buying grey market phones and enforce the warranty terms very strictly. Outside of buying it abroad from an authorized reseller or Negri and Expansys-USA you have no warranty protection and HTC really doesn't care. The One X is my fourth imported device and there have been horror stories on every forum when people discover that they have no warranty. At this point, your best bet is seeing if SquareTrade will cover it. If who you bought it from intentionally misled you might try and reverse the sale.
I recently made a claim with HTC USA for my One X as the USB/charging port stopped working. The guy who took the call placed me on hold to see if the phone would be covered under the US warranty as the phone was from a different country. He came back on the line and said it was good to go and I wouldn't have to call HTC in the country of origin to file the claim. Now whether or not they will cover the defect under warranty is in question as I have unlocked my boot loader and flashed a custom ROM. Phone is still in transit to HTC in Texas as of right now.

And when they look at your receipt or ask you for one if you didn't send it in at the same time. Great news though if it works.
I think it comes down to who answers the phone call. I had an unlocked vivid purchased on eBay three weeks of use resulted in a dead speaker. Contacted HTC shipped the phone got it fixed, no receipt, sales record, etc required they track all that by imei number I believe.
Plus never ever tell them you purchased it from a "friend" or eBay. Simply lie, if that goes against your moral character that's understandable. Despite what sellers state on eBay unless you can confirm they are an authorized re-seller/seller HTC doesn't legally have to honor the warranty as you would be owner number 2 even if the phone was never turned on.

I do have the receipt, however I wasn't asked for one either on the phone or in the email with shipping instructions.

While this is true, the country bit is not always enforced, especially for international phones. There are already multiple stories of HTC accepting repairs for example, for a UK phone sent in for repair in Germany/France/Somewhereelseineurope. Something I have come to understand about HTC is they are not Apple (for whom I used to do phone service). They are a lot more forgiving about the international nature of many of their phones and tend to cut you a bit more of a break so that you continue to buy their phones up front

Great to know. I'm used to dealing with Samsung and their Nazis when it comes to warranty enforcment. My i9100 is in the UK as we speak getting its bezel replaced so I can sell it. On paper, HTC and Samsung look about the same. With Samsung you know you're screwed. It's kind of rough with HTC because you won't know you're screwed unless you are.

I recently ordered unlocked HTC One in USA from HTC
I managed to pick up a brand new, sealed, Nexus 5X on eBay for a very good price to replace my aging Galaxy S5, but I have had it for less than a week and the fingerprint scanner just suddenly stopped working. I've been on the stock ROM only so far, and the Imprint option doesn't even come up in the settings anymore. I have cleared the cache and factory reset, none of which helped. The person I bought it from did not buy it from the Play Store (the Nexus representative checked my ESN); do you all think I should take my chances sending it to LG for warranty repair, or should I send it back to the seller? How common of an issue is this?
well if it's less then a week then i would recommend taking it back to the seller. he should be able to hand you a brand new one out. (if you still have the receipt). if it aint possible then some sellers will send it back to lg for repairing. So you might then need to wait a while.
I have just my Nexus 5x warranty repair approve by LG. Dody camera on mines. Like you I also bought it new and sealed from eBay. I supplied them with eBay sales invoice and payapl invoice and they have taken that as proof of purchase.

I just bought a new condition Nokia 8 Sirocco for review purposes and then planned on reselling it, of course I dropped it first day I got it (luckily with the case on), but unluckily it shattered the front glass. Touch seems to work just fine however, BUT...
Nokia won't sell me the part or help me at all since I'm not in the same country as where it is available from their website.
I tried ordering parts through a cellphone repair store authorized with Nokia, and even called and emailed places in both the UK and Canada that were authorized Nokia repair stores, and they are unable to get me the part or repair it for me even if I pay shipping there and back as well as for the repair and part.
The one website I found that sells the part for a very reasonable 400 rs (5-6 usd) only ships within India.
I've wasted so much time trying to figure out how to just get the part, much less have it repaired. If anyone has any ideas, suggestions, or can help me out I'd be incredibly grateful, or if you can sell me the part directly that would work as well.

China is the main source of cell phone parts. So, I think you should try "Aliexpress". And they can deliver your product in the USA.

i just bought a N8S with cracked screen, too good a price to not, i'd seen an ad via google for replacement screens for £69.99 in UK so thought id get it fixed easily, but when i got the phone i checked out the company on trust pilot, it is a scam, all bad reviews nothing good. I got in touch with nokia uk, they quoted £303GBP (about $400USD) for the repair, i can get new glass put in a samsung S8 for £70, so they are way over pricing it and withholding parts deliberately. i tweeted this info out, maybe they'll wake up as nobody would buy one if they realised the screen replacement cost. imho if they make things that break so easily they should be forced to supply replacement parts by law. or use a better screen that can be dropped, we all drop phones once in a while.
anyway i also searched around for glass only. everywhere in china i can find (aliexpress mainly) sells the whole LCD assembly for about $150USD, which is an option if all else fails. 1 place in india has screen only. again a hassle to get it sent overseas. but first ill wait a while, im sure the parts will become available. luckily this phone is usable as is, ill eventually fix it and sell it before i break the screen then buy another smasung because too much hassle to get parts for nokia. similar to apple who deliberately withhold parts also. just dont buy from these companies. i wont buy anything from nokia again. ill let you know how i get on.
Hi, I dropped my Sirocco 8 in December and the glass was toast but the screen worked okay. I bought it in the UAE and have since moved to Malaysia.
Nokia in Malaysia wouldn't touch it and told me that I'd need to send to the country of purchase for repair. I'm not keen on the idea of sending the phone back to the UAE so I too found the company in the UK (QMF) and have sent the phone to them. They've now told me that they cannot obtain the parts so I'm now scouring the web in the hope that someone can fix this phone for me. I loved this phone and if I'd known the trouble I'd have to get it repaired, I would have either not bought it or wrapped it in cotton wool!
If anyone has any luck with getting their phone repaired, I would appreciate if they could share details.

I sent my N8S to the said repair shop for £69.99 to replace the screen -3 weeks ago. Today, they sent me an email wanting another £180 more for the LCD replacement. I told them to cancel the repairs and refunds will be 30 days.
My OnePlus 5T died recently. Does not turn on or charge. No response when connecting to PC. Out of warranty by 7 days :crying:. My best guess based on what I have read is that the motherboard died. I imported the mobile from the USA, so sending it all the way there for an out of warranty repair is not viable. I am looking to source a used/dead unit with working motherboard. I can arrange international shipping. Any help would be appreciated. :fingers-crossed:
Sorry to read about your misfortune. About the only place you're going to get a main board replaced for a 5T is oneplus, and it will probably cost more than the phone is worth at this point. You could buy a used one on a site like swappa for $350 or so and scavenge yours for spare parts. If it were me, I'd just upgrade to a new phone, and try to sell the dead one for $100 - $150 for the spare parts. Reverse the situation so to speak.
Have you tried to contact the vendor? 7 days past warranty sucks, but maybe someone there might cut you some slack. Worth a shot.
Contacted OnePlus, but they stated it is out of warranty. Pretty useless support.
Not sure what I will get for it locally as it is not officially sold in my country. My plan B is to buy a new OnePlus 6 during my holiday in France next month. The 2 year EU warranty is a lot better than the 1 year in the USA.
Oneplus US or China? I thought in China they will take out of warranty phones for repair, but I could be wrong. Still, probably cost prohibitive.

I visit to OnePlus service centre to replace the screen but ask me to pay fortune on it if you didn't buy any phone yet you can have my motherboard I live in India.
