Does anyone know where the whatsapp folder is in the stock rom? I installed whatsapp, and am currently restoring everything - but I've also transferred all the data onto my laptop - transferring it straight to the phone would be much quicker and easier.
I can find the folder using the stock Explorer app, but can't seem to find it when connecting the phone to my laptop (MTP mode).

So, I want to connect my Nexus to my computer to put on some wallpapers, pictures, videos, etc. Thing is, whenever I connect it, and navigate to it in Windows Explorer, it seems to freeze up Windows Explorer. I managed to get my ringtones transferred over just fine, but every time I try to copy over pictures or anything else, it gets stuck on the copy process.
Additionally, it seems like access to folders and whatnot is pretty restricted... On my previous phone (the Thunderbolt), I had used MyBackupPro to back up my save data for games. The backup files were found in the app's folder, and I just copied them from the SD card to my computer so that I could put them on the Nexus. But on the Nexus, I can't seem to get in deep enough to access the MyBackupPro folder to move my backups to...
Anyone know how to fix either of these issues?
When I connect my phone to my laptop and try to copy a file to Gnex it says moving but never moves the file over..When this happens i click cancel and unplug my phone. When I open up my file manager all my internal storage is gone. All that is there are the Android, DCIM and ect folders with a modified date of just then and are empty
THis has happned 3 times already. The last time when I plugged the phone back to the PC the files came back but then went away.
What is going on? Is there a way to format the internal storage incase there is a issue somewhere before I start over again. I am tired of losing all my pictures, wallpapers and backed up rom mods and ect. I dont set them to autobackup to the cloud cause the battery needs all the life it can get LOL.
Running AOKP lastest and Franco kernel
Laptop: Vista 32bit
I find MTP very buggy, even with win7.
Do you have wireless access? If yes I suggest you try airdroid (gives you full access on a pc on the same wireless network) or one of the other wireless connect apps, or set up a wireless ftp server over ssh if you're a command line person.
airdroid was the first one I tried, it works well for me (ubuntu 10.04 and 11.10, vista 32, win7 64) so I've not looked further.
Just tried it...Not bad...only down side is copying stuff from the phone to PC you have to export zip files. And its slow over wifi. I'll have to keep exploring
Windows Explorer MTP transfer is buggy as hell. What I typically do with media is either use MediaMonkey for music (which works flawlessly and very fast over MTP, unlike Explorer) and just adb push for video.
For small transfers (<250MB), MTP through Explorer works okay.
Let me preface this post with a few of the background details.
using Windows 7 (64 bit)
all drivers are properly installed
currently using BAMF Paradigm v1.2
the issue that I sometimes experience has to do with recently created or deleted files. Let's say I delete a file, using Root Explorer. If I then plug the phone into my computer (connected via MTP, Windows will still show the deleted file. But of course, I can't copy it or manipulate it in any way, because the file has already been deleted.
And sometimes the opposite happens. Let's say I back up all my user apps with Titanium Backup. While I know that the internal SD partition isn't wiped when wiping data to install a new rom, I still like to have my Titanium Backups copied off the phone and onto my computer, for further redundancy. What I often do is use Root Explorer to make a zip file from the entire Titanium Backup folder, to make it so that I only have to copy one zip file over to the computer. But if I plug the phone into the computer immediately after making this zip file, it won't show up up in Windows. But I know that the file is there. I can see it in Root Explorer, and I can even pull it off the phone using the Gnex root toolkit (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400871).
If I wait a day or so, then the files shown in Windows "catches up" with what is and what isn't actually on the phone. In general, this is something that I'm used to now, and I can live with it, because I don't actually need to plug my phone into my computer very often.
My question is, why does it behave like this? I've seen this on 3 different computers (all Win 7 64 bit, and all with properly installed drivers), and across multiple ROMs. So I'm assuming that the issue is with the MTP transfer method?
Thanks in advance for any insight.
I've noticed something similar. Happened to me on:
CDMA 4.0.2 stock ROM, rooted & CWM installed
Windows 7 32-bit
All Drivers (FastBoot, ADB, etc) working properly
I noticed when I installed CWM, made a few backups I could see the folder and files using Root Explorer or any File Explorer (ES for instance) from the Market. Still wouldn't show when connected to the PC through MTP.
After a phone reboot, they appeared.
also happens on Galaxy Tab 7.7
only a reboot will fix it
I'm currently using aokp build 3. I have tried everything from MTP to PTP, use debugging to non usb debugging, Kies, Android File Transfer. Nothing seem to work. The only thing seem to be working is Airdroid which is really slow for any large file. So how do you guys transfer file on a custom rom with mac?

i am experiencing the same issues and have been for a very long time. when i first got the phone i could connect with Android File Transfer but no longer . I am running stock rooted. When I have experienced with ROM FILES, I have just put my SD card into an adapter and put it directly into my computer. This is also the safest way to transfer the file without risking corruption.
DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO GET MTP/PTP or UMS to work?? UMS would be preferable for me.
Here's a quick fix for doing a half-assed job of what you need. I am a fellow Mac user.
Download "SGS3 Easy UMS" (google it) APK to your phone. Install.
Connect your device to your computer. If you have Kies, it'll start saying "Connecting..." but it'll never connect.
Pop open SGS3EUMS, and click "Mount UMS" or whatever it's called.
Make sure you're rooted (shoulda said this before).
Boom. Pop open your finder. Send files to your external SD.

Can't do Internal SD, or get KiesMac or even Andriod File Transfer working after flashing CM10, or any custom ROM. Stock worked beautifully.
Hello everyone,
I just got my Note 2 three days back, I love the device and the OS.
I am running Mac OS 10.7.5 and I am unable to mount my phone to the mac, I have tried using android file transfer and it says cannot find device.
I tired both the MTP and PTP options and restarted multiple times, I have also tried Double Twist and the phone doesn't show up - though dropbox is able to recognize the device. I have tried Kies but its really show to recognize the phone and it takes ages to transfer.
How can I mount my phone on the mac so I can use the double twist interface or just drag and drop files to the phone.
I also have another questions on where the contacts, notes etc are getting backed up and how can I access them.
Thank you
There is an app somewhere in the market place to mount USB
For contacts, I back it up online using google contacts, since android phone is already tied with a google account.

Go to settings and enable developer options and usb debugging too. It will help you to connect in mtp mode. For contacts you can use Google cloud or export them to your sd card like .vcf file. For notes backup you can use samsung cloud under settings. You can backup your messages , calender and s notes too.
