Hello, I got the S3 last Monday and I love it. It's a big jump from my EVO3D. I've noticed there are some quirks that a Google search can't help me with so I've come here.
The first is that some of my settings aren't saved after a reboot. Particularly developer options and 'stay awake while charging' is always reset to off after a reboot. I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. Any help with it would be appreciated. I haven't tried a factory reset yet and don't want to bring it back to Sprint unless I have to. While I was writing this, it reset after turning it on before starting this post.
The second is the batter life. I'm sure I'm used to my EVO3D with an extended Seidio battery. I've been reading some things about how there is a battery drain and haven't seen much improvement with those tips. I have always got an extended battery with my phones for the extra bulk and not having to recharge as often. My question is more about the Mophie Juice Packs. What's the consensus about these here? I'm used to carrying it on my belt because of the extra bulk, so I'll also need a belt clip. I'm not sure what the Mophie's have yet, I just started looking at Amazon for them.
My third question is regarding the 'home' button. I've read that the only way to disable it unlocking the screen is via a code change once it's rooted. This isn't a big deal to me, as I have a temporary belt clip from Best Buy until I figure out which way I want to go (Mophie or Seidio). Is there a way to disable it other than changing code? The post I saw was kinda old so I'm wondering, read hoping, there's a change for it.
Coming from the EVO3D I'm used to the recent programs in the notification bar. I'm sure that's a feature with HTC Sense, but am wondering if there is anything like that within the Samsung UI. My thumb just isn't used to having to hold down the home button to sway between apps quickly.
Other than those things which, realistically, aren't a big deal at all, except the settings being reset, I absolutely love it. The way it hooks up to my laptop is kind of annoying, but I like access to the internal memory instead of just the SD card.
Any help or opinions on those things would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much for your time

From what I hear around, apparently the developer options thing is suppose to reset after each boot. On Cyanogenmod it does. And about the battery life, mine isn't that bad. I start my day around 5:30 at 98% and end it at 6 or 7 and I have between 79%-69%. Mine isn't that bad.

Is the stay awake issue a bug? I can't believe that would be intended...... Earlier today, it randomly rebooted and turned on stay awake and set the screen timeout to () which was above 15 seconds. The manager at Sprint and I are friends there and am wondering aboit getting it swapped out since I've had it for 10 days. I'm hoping I can get it swapped out.

I didn't know if I should start a new thread or continue here.
I guess the easiest way to explain my issue is 'the UI reloading at random times.' So you start your phone up and you get the blue Samsung logo and it shows Sprint 4G LTE. I didn't restart my phone at all today and it did it twice. What causes that and how do I fix it?
Thanks

Stock. I am using Nova but it happens in Touchwiz as well.

Hmm, if you're unrooted and having those issues, it sounds like a hardware problem

Guys, I was all set to get a new 32gb Nexus 7....the reviews are great, and then I start reading about the issues.
After a bit more reading, I'm left wondering if its such a good idea? I read that Google released an update, then I also read that it didn't always fix things for people?
So the questions I guess are, Do you own one? Have you had a problem? Is it now fixed by the update? Maybe you've never had any problems?
Would you recommend getting one? I don't wanna spend out on something that I'll regret.
Thanks guys.
I've had mine since the first weekend of availability and it's lived up to all my expectations and then some, you're just buying the usual support vocal minority, sume have legit issue, noisy are just being nitpicky

Thanks, this is what I'm trying to determine...if its just a few people shouting loud, or a big issue affecting a lot.
Thanks for your reply.
Mine worked 100% out of the box, no light bleed, no multi-touch issues, no GPS issues. Updates have installed perfectly. I am running stock deodexed + root + TWRP + Elemental X 1.1 Kernel. Couldn't be happier with my purchase. :good:
I know a lot of people have reported the GPS issues and the touch issues, but I've never experienced them myself. I bought mine the day it was released, 32gb model.

My suggestion is you buy from a place with a reasonable return policy.
We have no idea whether this is a 1%, 5%, 10% or more problem. Even if it were a 20% problem you would still have a huge number of people without issues, but from a product standpoint it would be very bad.
In my personal experience GPS is completely fixed on multiple units with the JSS15Q firmware.
Multi-touch is hit or miss, many units either got multi-touch fixed or saw no improvement. Some saw things get worse. You can see from the changelog history of the touchscreen firmware that they have been making various changes to address the issues, so the issues are real and acknowledged in some part.
Changelog for touchscreen firmware is available here:

As to the random reboots, IMO there are 2 issues, one is a hardware issue and the other is one or more software issues. The hardware issue is more rare, but if you have it, it will be difficult to avoid the reboots, unless Google/Asus can find a software workaround for the problem.
With respect to the software reboot issues, you can usually avoid them by avoiding a "trigger" app. Some folks usage just never triggers the problem. Some people trigger it when using chrome. For others it is some other app. Usually when you stop using the trigger app the software reboots go away.
You need to make the decision for yourself. There will be lots of people saying no problem and lots of people saying they got multiple units all with issues.
I bought the 32gb. Works flawlessly, I got it a week and half ago.

I would say go for it, you are always going to have issues with most anything. Just buy from a retailer with a good return policy, I own the nexus 7 2012 and the nexus 7 2013 , no issues here, awesome devices.
Thanks guys. Sfhub, you make some good points....think I will buy from a large high street store, rather than online.

i think mine is definitely, hardware, maybe , cuz of user error, ie, bad dirty flashing of zips, i dont' want to start all over fresh again, too many apps/settings to revert back (yes call me lazy sob)
most of the reboots happen when im clicking on an app with wifi on , but one of my last reboots, it just just rebooted out of the blue, i didn't even touch the tablet, but i seen it reboot!
Not sure, really, whether I have/had problems or not. Got mine over the weekend. During my initial playing, I did not notice any touch issues. The GPS would lock, but I didn't have time to take it anywhere for long enough to be sure if it would stay locked for a long period of time. Almost immediately (1 day) I got the JSS15Q OTA update. The GPS DOES seem to lock a bit faster, and I seem to be seeing more satellites than before -- it could be my imagination, though. Still no touch issues that I can see.
New Nexus 7 (then) past issues, (now), Cool TAB!

I HAD issues out of the box. Waited for the first update from Google, rebooted once after. Took forever to get the screen to respond to any kind of tap. Rebooted a couple of times and was able to get somewhat R E A S O N A B L E response out of the screen. GPS would work for all of 2 minutes and then shut down. No problems with Wi-Fi.
That was then, along came update: JSS15Q! All is happy in Nexus land. GPS is strong and works flawlessly even in the darkest center of my house! Screen is responsive my fingers are happy.
APPS? That is another matter, remember, even with a stock Nexus 7 fhd you are on the bleeding edge meaning that many apps found on Google Play may fail. Live with it until either the app is updated, ***** at the (no don't *****, contact the developer and kindly tell him/her your problem; or find another app that works for now.
Games? Heh, that is a real crapshoot. If it won't function, move on.
This is one hell of a tablet with excellent video, good sound, fast processing. Short of it not being the size of my 60" monitor (TV) I can read everything with these 78 year old eyes!

Guys, just wanted to say thanks for all the posts. You help me make up my mind, and gave some sound advice.
I've took the plunge and brought the 32gb model (from a big high street retailer), and I have to say....what a cracking little tablet this thing is, I am really impressed with it. I have not had any issues with it, so I seem to be one of the lucky ones....either that or they have fixed the issues by the time we got them in the UK.
I do feel for all the people who had problems though, its a nightmare when these thing happen. Theres no doubt there has been or are some issues out there, one thing with a Nexus device I guess is it is patched fast if its sw...obviously hw is a different issue.
Looking forward to enjoying this device now, if I can get on it....have to wrestle it off the wife and kids first!
......thanks again guys.
Pete.
Just got my 32gb Nexus today in the UK. Only thing I have noticed is that tap and hold on screen is slow to react. Can take a couple of trys before it works. Sometimes taping an app is slow to open. Running stock and latest update. Only change made is to use Nova as the launcher.

To Wugfresh Re: Toolkit
This is a followup to my 2 confusing Twitter's I made it worse by referencing Nexus 4 and 7 so I will stick to 7 (mostly). I now realize that lurking has its penalties since I need 9 posts after this before I can post this in the relevant thread (with a nostalgic tear for the days we welcomed all comers and left our doors unlocked).
I bought an N7 FHD (2nd gen) and rooted it after the 4.3 auto update soft bricked (right term of art?) it. I used the other toolkit to restore it to JDQ39 factory unrooted. Then it installed JSS15J. Today it tried to do an update and (presumably) it failed because of rooting. That build is no longer on the developer's website and has been replaced by JSS15Q. I would never presume to call myself a developer but my first modem was a 300 baud acoustic coupler and I have a 5 1/2" floppy disks older then most of you and it's actually floppy. ROFL.
Back to reality, on the Nexus 4, I could not discern how to upgrade to the latest Y build but I did manage to restore it to factory settings and Google handled the rest, You were kind enough to add JSS15J to your toolkit for the Nexus 4 but it is not available (in your drop-down) for the Nexus 7. I figured that if you made JSS15J available for the N7 I could restore the N7 to a factory fresh un-rooted one and Google could update it to JSS15Q. In the alternative you might guide me to how I could go from JSS15J to JSS15Q. I am certainly not in your league but this is not my first rodeo and I cannot tell you how grateful I am for your efforts. Your toolkit saved my Nexus 4 from the 2 week wait during which Google might have told me rooting voids the warranty or just have left me phone-less till they returned it.
Again thank you especially, and to all the others here who light candles in the darkness for each other and the rest of us pilgrims. A tip of my fedora to ya. Never forget one definition of a pioneer is someone with an arrow in their back.
Much of the time I am as confused as a baby in a topless bar who said, "What do you mean this is not a lunchroom, what else could it be?"
My suggestion is to keep root, grab the latest carbon ROM, the elemental 1.1 kernel and you should be all set. They already have the updates From G in them and they work superb.

Do you own one?
Yes, from day one.
Have you had a problem?
Yes, GPS and the touchscreen grounding issue.
Is it now fixed by the update?
Yes, GPS seems fixed.
No, grounding issue may be worse. Works fins as long as I'm holding it. Placing it causes touches to become sporadic.
Maybe you've never had any problems?
I wish...
Would you recommend getting one?
Yes, it still a FANTASTIC device and many have no issues. If you do return it right away until you get one without issues.
I spoke too soon....at first I thought everything was ok....then I began to notice when I was typing that sometimes it would come out as gibberish. I thought nothing of it as we all make typos now and then, then I noticed that press and hold didn't always register (sometimes takes a few goes). I downloaded the multi-touch test from play and to my horror it's all over the place (compared it against my note 2), this is with the latest update. After reading around a bit more, I'm beginning to think these touch screen issues are hardware....and that it's more widespread than people think. Will be exchanging it for another one, hopefully fair better second time.

Hey man, thanks for the reply.
I opted for the swap out because I don't want to loose the warranty, which I believe you would if you unlocked it?
I bought from PC World / Currys so the swap was no hassle.
Using the new one now, its testing better and typing and "hold and drag" is working much better (although hold and drag still isn't 100%, it's now acceptable to me).
I tested before and after the update, the observation I made is that the update seems to dull down the touch screen a little. It became slightly less responsive after the update than before, but hasn't really affected the usability on this one....although I think I prefered it pre update.
Hello everyone,
I've been reading on this forum for awhile and just decided to register. I've got a few questions I am hoping someone can help me out with.
I needed a phone that wasn't locked to a carrier and I could use in multiple countries and I ended up purchasing a Nexus 5. So far, so good. I really like the phone. Liked it so much bought a Nexus 7 (2013) to replace my 5 year old iPad 1. I figured the tablet would be great like the phone and did a factory restore on the iPad and gave it to a friend of my daughter who's parent can't afford to buy such things.
I'm kinda regretting getting rid of that iPad. I'm having nothing but trouble with this tablet. The browser constantly crashes (even after clearing the cache), it constantly freezes and restarts. Apps randomly crash and I always get these little popups saying something has stopped. Too be honest, its driving me nuts.
I did the cache wipe multiple times now. It seems to help for a few hours and then it goes back to its old ways. I'm not having the screen issues some people are reporting so I'm glad for that. My tablet is stock and unrooted running Kit Kat 4.4.4.
My question is this, what am I missing here? Everyone keeps saying this is the best Android tablet, but I'm ready to throw this thing away. I just ordered an Asus Vivotab to try out windows on a tablet, but I still would like to get this Nexus working correctly. I love the size of it and really like having an OS that is not filled with a bunch of junk software.
I think I'm going to send it to Asus and see if they can fix it, but I won't be back in the States for another month and don't want to start that process until I'm home. I appreciate everyone letting me rant a little and I hope some of you all have some suggestions. Thanks again.
If it was bad or if the box you should have exchanged it.
The n7 really is a great device. Still my first advice. Never had any of the issues that you describe.
Edit: If you are unable to exchange it- i suggest running a stock ruu to restore the OS to original. If you still have issues after that it's definitely bad hardware.
--> Sent from my mind to your screen
Well, I had this thing shipped halfway around the world to me to begin with. An exchange would be a looooonngg process. Regardless, it wasn't giving me any trouble out of the box. Only started about a month ago.
I appreciate the response though. Aside from doing a factory restore, how do I go about reloading the software? I've done 4 restores from the tablet itself, doesn't fix anything. I don't see any reason to do it again, all it seems to do is waste my time.
I've got an internet connection, a laptop and a USB cable. If you could point me in the right direction I'll give it a go. I'm pretty handy with a windows PC, but don't know much about the inner workings of these mobile OS's.
Oh, and its starting something new now. Apps are randomly dissapearing from the tablet after random restarts. I lost my calendar today. Not just the icon, but the whole app.
It is totally strange behavior. N7 2013 is totally great device, probably there is some hardware issue like broken RAM or similar with your tab. Service sounds like a good solution.
tetakpatalked from Nexus 7 flo
OK everyone. Thanks. I'll get it mailed off as soon as I get back to the states. Hopefully it works out.
So I used to root phones years and years ago. HAvent felt the need since.
I just got this the tab s 8.4. Lovely tablet, fast ,good build quality, etc. But I've been using nexus devices since the nexus S. Samsungs interface has me wanting to throw this tablet again the wall.
I just want a stock android experience on this otherwise wonderful tablet,
I looked a bit through the android development section and realized how lost I was. I just want to know the easjest way to get rid of this awful interface so I can run vanilla android.
Is that going to a require a root and rom flash? And there programs out now that do it for you so your back end involvement is mimimized?
Please point me in the right direction of what I need to do to have this wonderful tablet running stock android.
Any help is much appreciated. If someone really helps me out and walks me through the process I have no problem throwing them a few bucks on paypal. Just want this tablet to run the way I want it.
Thanks for your help. Feel free to text 561 808 9694 for quicker response as I may forgot to check this as often as I should.
Use "Google Now Launcher" from Play store
I have successfully used IronRom, which is rooted etc., and highly cusomable.
Also I have used Cyanogenmod 12.1, which is official with nightlies.
Search XDA forums, and you will find these and other gems.
Edit: I may have missed your point (stock android) but the ROM's mentioned gives you a new and better experience with the Tab s 8.4 ...
I have read several threads and reviews on several different sites concerning the G4, and my head is spinning. I am currently on a g3, and looking to do an upgrade through best buy to re up my contract to avoid the unlimited data price increase. My choices are between an s6 variant and the G4. That's all background...so here we go...
I have read about touchscreen issues here on XDA. On other sites I have read about some sort of hardware issues with G4's mAde before September, but also saying that those are now resolved. Are these the same issue? Are these issues resolved? If it is not, how bad is this touch screen issue? I see lots of positive reviews, but then On a few trusted sites like XDA I see what looks like horror stories, but some of these stories are in posts that weeks and months old, so I am having trouble getting the picture of the current state of affairs. I also see something about a eifi issue too.
Camera. I read it is the best camera out there on some sites, but others saying that the phone takes a few seconds from "click to pic" so that you miss the shot you want. That is the issue I have on the g3, and don't want to repeat it. Can anyone share their experiences please?
Is there anything I am missing here?
Thanks in advance to all responders.

I recently updated to software version 12A and have unfortunately been one of the users affected by the wifi issue. I don't receive any notifications while connected to wifi, but do when I turn wifi off and run off of 4G LTE. Annoying having to turn off wifi to get notifications from Gmail or Hangouts and then have to remember to re-enable it before streaming videos/music or downloading files. Apparently several users on this forum have discovered that the wifi notifications problem is related to IPv6 and that by disabling it (rooted device) or using a VPN (forces device to use IPv4) will fix that issue, I haven't tried this myself yet.
After updating when using wifi I have also experienced noticeable lag on Google or browsing the web using Chrome. It's not too bad but it just doesn't feel as snappy as it did before the upgrade. I haven't had any issues with the touchscreen on my G4 so far. It would appear that Verizon has since pulled that particular update as it was causing so many problems. Hopefully Android 6.0 Marshmallow fixes these problems, but so far there isn't a time-frame for when it is expected to be released.
In regards to the camera, it is nice to have the ability to adjust most of the controls manually. (although the f-stop appears to be fixed to 1.8) I have noticed it can sometimes take a second or two to take photos, but most of the time once it has focus in automatic mode it's pretty responsive. The G4 also has the ability to shoot RAW photos if you're into that kind of thing and prefer to edit the photos later and pull out more data from shadows/highlights.

Thank you for your help. I am a former HTC thunderbolt owner, so I am very warry about these things. I am sure the notifications issue will be solved with a update like the thunder bolt similar issue was.
If I may ask you, how long have you owned this? I am trying to get a sense of when it was made as I am concerned about this vague harware issue I read about in some places.
I am not sure I want to root this phone as I wish to use stuff like android pay now, and I have given up xposed due to severe battery drain on my g3 tied to it.
With respect to the camera, I have noticed that I take far fewer pictures on my g3 vs what I did on my samsung s3. I attribute this to the difficulty of talking the picture due to the delay.
This is more difficult decision than I wanted! Anyone else have any thoughts on these issues?

It was purchased at the end of July so I've had it for about three months now.
