Hello,
1)
i'm new to the Mi Max and thanks to this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-max/how-to/guide-install-global-miui8-root-t3435594
i managed to install MIUI 8 and rooted it.
Before i did it i requested to unlock it and now i got the permission to do so - but - do i need to do this?
What are my advantages as i have TWRP installed, as i'm rootet? What can i do more / what can i do less at the moment?
2)
Within TWRP on my HTC M8 i could activate Mass Storage for the MicroSD Card. For big transfers MTP is a pain in the ass because it hangs very often. I hate it. In TWRP for Mi Max there is only the option to activate MTP. Is there any possibility for using mass storage in TWRP?
Thanks
Daniel

Hello guys
I just updated my Hboot to 1.28 and flashed clockwork recovery 5.8.4.0 using the Jelly Bean Firmware Easy Flasher & Fastboot Toolkit. But, when i entered recovery, i couldn't access my external storage. When i select choose file from SD, it says no files found. So i cant flash ARHD 12.0 which i have placed on my external storage. I booted into IceCold Jelly which i was using early. I cant access the storage even from there!
Plus i don't get any network now!
I am on the verge of panicking.
Please help.
Thanks in advance

I'm really sorry, i'm a bit of a noob. What is MTP? How will it help me in my case?
Okay i realised i have another problem. It only boots into IceColdJelly if i have the usb cable attached. When i disconnect it, the phone restarts and gets stuck on the splash screen.

MTP: Media Transfer Protocol.
HTC changed the way you interact with the phone in Jelly Bean. You no longer have Mass Storage access mode (let's call it "direct mode") to the phones internal SD card. Now with MTP you "ask" the phone for a file and the phone reads the SD card and send it to you. The same happens when writing files to the phone (childish but very easy explanation). The good point about this is that you can read/write files to the phone and it will still be able to read the sd card in the process (for opening apps saved in media storage or play music or ringtones...) but this layer in the middle of the proccess makes it mush slower...
In my opinion I prefer Mss storage mode...
Managed to fix it. After mounting/unmounting from recovery i could see my SD card (Which got wiped btw :'(. But, i had been warned.). Copied the ARHD file onto storage again and managed to flash and boot ARHD 12.0 .
Thank you for helping
Saif

As of Android 4.0 I believe they removed mass storage from all subsequent builds of android. They had a reason for it which I do not recall but it is not possible on any 4.0+ device no matter the hack.

MTP has several advantages over mass storage mode, some of which include:
1) storage can be accessed simultaneously by both the Android tablet/phone as well as the computer it is connected to by USB
2) does not need to be selected on the device after connecting USB (likely related to Item 1 above, as the storage no longer has to be "unmounted" from the device
3) app storage and user storage are now unified
Item 3 above is probably the primary reason for the move to MTP. And of course MTP has its drawbacks.
I've seen mass storage enabled on custom ROMs on other devices (HTC One X in particular). So it is possible. But whether we will ever see this on the Note 8 is another story.
I've tried these two:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2175747
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mohammadag.samsungusbmassstorageenabler
But both didn't work...
Many people on 4.0 and higher got to enable Mass Storage Device mode..
So I was thinking about how to do that..
I'll wait till someone successfully make it able on NOTE 8.0
Thanks

:D
hello and thanks a lot for your help . I will try to morow morning and come back to you
not working on samsung
Not working on general mobile discovery and other old phone. I think that this works only with ONE M8
I am trying to use this to bypass a pattern lock on a Samsung Galaxy s6 Active and have been unable to do so. The phone does not have an internal Micro SD slot, so I have tried it with a dual adapter flash drive (micro sd) an On the Go cable to a flash drive, and a micro SD card reader to no avail.
Each of these things shows up on the screen if I am in normal mode, though I can't access them, of course, because it is locked.
However, in Recovery mode, if I select "Apply update from SD card" it says "Couldn't mount / sd card. Installation aborted."
If I select "mount / system" it says "Couldn't mount / sd card. Installation aborted. Mounted system."
What am I doing wrong? Please, if anyone can help me I would be deeply grateful and even happy to pay you.
Is this how you "flash" something?
Desperate... really need the data on my phone and can not do a factory reset.
Thank you!
It's working like a charm on my Note 3 with my flash drive (I used the otg cable) and no root needed. I've been going crazy since I've tried so many ways like Android Device Manager or another zip file. YOU SAVED MY LIFE haha thanks man

Hi I bought a new AT&t -Unlocked One m8 with lollipop 5.0.2 already installed, in fact o blught 2 of them, one perfectly reads sd cards, allow to use storage, while the other don t even hace sd card option enabled ( every storage options bu internal storage es DISABLED and don t know how can i enable it since i don t have any visible option to do it! Please if someone can help me Ill be more than thanked!!!!!!!
I ve attached a pic with phone on recovery mode as you can see the errors it show, maybe this way is much more easier for everybody to help me!!!
Thank you!
Internal storage needs to be formatted, but the common way to fix that is with custom recovery, not stock recovery.
Connect the phone to a PC, and see if you can pull up the option to format the internal storage.
I'm assuming your phones are rooted. Download Terminal Emulator and enter SU;
1. SU - wait till it asks for root, approve it.
2. restorecon -FR /data/media/0
This should fix the security error and you'll be able to access your SD card.
Hi,
i use the twrp and i select format data. After that when i plug my Poco f3 in my PC (in TWRP) i see my device, i see Internal STorage but not gb NOTHING.
PLZ HELP
It happened to me on my Redmi Note 9 Pro, i asked for help, most of the people told me to format data to remove encryption to fix it, but I did it many times and with 2 recoveries capable of decryption. Nothing works, so I had no way to install my custom ROM, fortunately I remembered the RN9 Pro had an SD card slot, I copied the zip to the SD card and flash it from there and managed to install a ROM.
Once installed I was able to access internal storage again.
So in case of this phones with no SD Card Slot I don't think there's a solution, just flash again MIUI fastboot Firmware with Flash Tool and it will restart to MIUI Stock ROM.
Probably not what you want but at least you'll be able to use your phone again until someone comes up with a solution.
Sad to have new phones loosing SD card Slot and now Jack 3.5mm connector, etc.
I guess you can use OTG to do the same that @davidbejar did.
