Hi All,
Just changed to a Z5 Premium and I have a query, I play a lot of 24bit 96khz music and am not sure how the Z5 does with High res audio, I also have a FIIO E17K Alpen 2 DAC and my query is what would give best audio quality?
Music Player with headphones
Music player with Portable DAC
Music Player with DSEE HX turned on
USB audio Player Pro with DAC
Assuming your DAC is top notch, using it and paying the signal to a good headphone amp and some really good headphones...

Im using FIIO E17K Alpen 2 DAC and Sennheiser Momentum 2 headphones, I know the Z5 can play high res so not sure if playing through the headphone socket on the phone will be just as good as the DAC or just use the DAC?

Probably better through the external DAC.

I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with any small headphone amps for use with a cellphone. I need something small, battery or DC powered and relatively cheap. I'm not looking for audiophile quality here, just something to increase the volume in my car with its crappy stock speakers without any distortion.

I know this is an older post but you should look into Cmoy headphone amps.

fiio E6. Cheap but don't expect a huge raise in quality or volume
Hey mates, original headphones for Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is enough for most of the users. But xda - developers is about hardcore)
Maybe you can share your headphones model and your impressions. And also soft you are using.
Thx in advance) looking forward to get new headphones for my precious

I have been using Westone 4 with my Galaxy Note. I only listen to sound tracks encoded in Apple Lossless format. Great sounding in-ear monitors. Neutral sound with a lot of details. I wish it had wider soundstage though.

I listen with:
Denon d5000
Akg 702
Beyerdynamic dt880 (new version)
Sennheiser hd700
But they need more power so then i use sometimes a portable amp,
For in ear i have v moda but never listen with them haha
I only use wav or flac music files

Even though i have an i9300 (same dac as note 2) i use the vmoda m100's which honestly best out headphones in the $500 range while costing $300. I have siyah kernel so i use the audio tweaks and it is the best mix of bass, mids, and highs you can get from a portable source w/out an amp.
I'm using beats by dre studio

Sennheiser CX-400-II here. Never tried anything else then Sennheiser but they're awesome.
Using one of several closed cans I have with my Note 2, awaiting a new USB DAC.amp that will work with the Note 2 though - will be getting a Leckterton UHA-6S.MKII and new model Ray Samuels Audio "The Intruder" too (my HeadAmp Pico was working with my US S3, but doesn't with the Note 2 or International S3).
Headphones are usually one of:
Beyerdynamic T5p
Audio Technica W3000ANV
Ultrasone Edition 8
Sometimes use one of my other open-backed headphones when at home with the S3 since these really require amping:
Grado GS1000i
Grado RS1
Audeze LCD-2
(hopefully that is hardcore enough for the OP)
Sennheisser HD25 - robust!!
been searching and searching with no luck.
im using nschiwy-sparkplug120 rom
Any body know what chipset it has and if i can use the usb line out for audio?
and if yes on the usb line out.. can i just get a microusb to 3.5mm audio adapter from amazon?
Why not just use the headphones Jack?

I can use the headphone jack but its not a clean source.. like a line out.
I have audiophile headphones and want to connect the incredible to my fiio e17 portable dac/headphone amplifier... the best sound comes from a line out from the usb that will get amped from my dac/amp... then get sent to my headphones. Since i have my incredible sitting around.
a couple of companys make high end mp3/amplified portable players.. the Vamp from vmoda is a portable amp that allows an iphone 4 to doc in it is $600 so thats $600 plus an iphone 4.. Ibasso makes a high end android player with a awesome amp... is $800.. Hifiman makes an awesome portable mp3 player that can drive some pretty hard to drive headphones is $600..
So if i can use a clean line out audio signal from my free incredible and connect it to the line in from my pretty good Fiio dac/amp then i have a pretty darn inexpensive solution to my sensitive/subjective ears.
sorry to get too detailed.. but i am a audiophile with a severely limited budget.
Well, I did not know that. I would think the closest thing you will find is the video output cables to do this job. If memory serves, it is the standard left and right audio channels, and video. Of course you would need another cable to convert to 3.5mm jack, which is not a very clean or good looking method.

Ok, has anybody else noticed the poor sound quality when you playback music on your headset? There's a hiss and you sometimes here sounds break up. I noticed this last night while I was playing music. I didn't expect this on a premium device. Really disappointed, anybody know if this has been mentioned or is waiting to be fixed?
I don't have that issue but I use Google Music.

Doesnt appear that anyone in the audio review thread are running i to this issue, may be a faulty unit worth getting fixed, or atleast try the audio on a store unit with your headphones and see how that goes.
I was listening on the earbuds it came with earlier and didn't notice anything when using Spotify. Just now used it with my Audio Technica ATH-M50s and still no hissing or breaking up with Spotify. Spotify and Google Music is all I use and I stream all of my music. Not sure if that makes a difference.

Same as me. I just stream all my music with Spotify. No problems here, audio is fantastic and crisp.
Sorry to hear you're having issues.

Purexaudio works on ARHD Rom, and makes my Westones worth the bucks spent. Greatly improved the audio without BoomSound enabled.
You can find it on the one x thread.

I think I've found the problem, it happens on low volume, turn Boomsound off when you're listening to music at low levels, i.e. at sleeping time.
Heya, sorry if my question is a bit irrelevant to the audio quality of the phone, but do the audio volume controls on your headphones work on the m8?
I've tried using my apple earbuds controls on my M7, and only the play/pause button works...nothing more. Did they change that for the m8?
Thanks.

Could be that it's incompatible to iPhone controls. I've not used them.

I've used the earphones that came with the samsung galaxy note 2 (since my brother has them) on the M7, and its not working as well.
Why would HTC do such a thing
My handset speakers sound great but I notice that when I plug my auxiliary cord in the headphone jack of my phone to input to my car stereo - it sounds terrible, all distorted and stuff. I have the same 320kbps mp3 file on my mp3 player also on my SD card of my phone so I know the file is good. I also have a high quality aux cord so I K own it's not that either. When I play the same song from my mp3 player w/my aux cord to my car stereo rather than my phone w/my aux cord to my car stereo, it sounds great. Phone output via aux cable sounds like crap. Is this cuz of boom sound and if so, how do I shut it off?

You can shut off boomsound in settings when the aux cord is connected, I also find that visualizer increases distortions when playing certain files so try not to have the music player on visualizer when playing through the headphone jack.
What is your favorite audio app to use with wireless headphones ? Something that is good for audiophiles.

I'm a big fan of RocketPlayer
Try out poweramp. I m using since many years now. Bass is too good
+1 Power Amp
Neutron MP
Player Pro Music Player
Neutron MP , Hands Down
Thank you all, I think I should have made this clear, but I'm looking audio app, that enhanced sound quality for streaming purpose like Spotify or Google music, I'm not looking for a player, because player is good only for media that is already on phone and played.

Streaming really isn't ideal for "audiophiles"
With that said, Tidal is probably your best bet if you want the highest quality streaming

Power Amp seems to be using DAC in it's settings, any clear instructions on how to use it with Doly Atmos.
Thanks

I started using Amazon music a few months ago when I realized it was included with my Prime membership. It has a lot of good features and I personally really like their playlists and stations.
All that being said, their fidelity on the free with Prime version is not very good. Good enough to run on BT speakers or over BT on my truck stereo, but put some decent headphones on and it is noticeably not very good. I have used Media Monkey as my main music player app for many years, and listening to the same song on Amazon Music then listening to it via Media Monkey is literally night and day difference. I realize the Amazon music you linked is a $15 a month higher grade service, which I will not be paying for, as 99% of my listening is via BT over speaker or in my vehicle. I am tempted to try it though just to see how good it actually is.
USB audio player pro. You'll want also the Mqa plugin as Samsung dacs are mediocre compared to Lg who has hardware Mqa.
Be aware that there's no DAC in the Note 10 anymore.

A DAC don't have anything to do with Bluetooth or USB.
My friend you are looking for Eqfy. It's the best eq I've tried since I can't use Viper.
