Ok after waiting forever for my AT&T Note 4 to gain root access I decided this time around to go international so I picked up a 930-FD. I didn't look into some of the things I would lose by not getting the AT&T model. I'm fine with losing LTE, but was surprised when I installed AT&T Visual Voicemail and it failed to work. After contacting AT&T they told me that is not a feature for models not made by them. Is this true or is there a way to make it work. I know it sounds stupid but I really liked that feature.

I've seen a lot of threads about different devices on other networks, but I haven't been able to find an answer on this question. I've seen pictures of the back of Sprint SGS3s compared to VZW, AT&T, T-mobile, etc and I know it doesn't have a SIM card slot - but I've only seen this in reference to global capability. I also know the Verizon is locked, but obviously that is only important from going Verizon to a different carrier. How does this apply when going from a different carrier to VZW?
I have a company phone on Sprint, and a personal cell phone on Verizon. I just got a new phone on Verizon, but it isn't working (the screen doesn't turn on 95% of the time) and didn't get insurance on it. I do, however, have an upgrade available through my company Sprint phone. Sprint's service is awful in Phoenix, though - so I'm hoping to be able to get an SIII through Sprint but use it on my Verizon plan. Is this possible?
Thanks!

Okay, I'm sure the information is all out there, so before I get told to search forums or google, I have. My issue is that I'm just having the hardest time putting all the scattered information together and understanding it. There's too much information to decipher whats needed, accurate andd up to date for my situation. So I was wondering if someone whose done this before could just give me the straight to guide.
I have verizon, my girlfriend has sprint. She broke her S4. I have an old verizon note 2 that is unlocked, rooted, custom recovery and on CM11.
What I need to do is get it on the sprint network and get her service switched over to it.
I know it has something to do with APN settings, but there's so many different ones whether it's for internet and MMS. I basically just want her to be able to use it to make phone calls and maybe regular texts. I got all confused when I saw things dealing with PRL and what not, so I don't actually know which things I need to make this work.
I put the sim card from her S4 into my Verizon note 2 and opened the access point settings under mobile network. There are a bunch of sprint ones in there now, I don't know which one to choose. I tried the one just labeled "Sprint" and then rebooted to get the APN settings to switch over but I still have no service to try and activate the phone.
So could someone please give me a simplified walk-through of putting in sprint's settings on a verizon note 2. I tried flashing a Sprint CM11 rom but it failed. So now i am going to try flashing a sprint touchwiz rom to see if that will make all the necessary changes for me.
Update: I Just finished flashing jellybomb touchwiz rom, it flashed but wont get into the phone setup, says there's an encryption error and the phone needs to be reset. I did that and it still does the same.
Thanks in advance guys, I've flashed a lot of roms, I've just never switched my phone to another carrier before.
You can't activate a non Sprint branded phone on the Sprint network. Period. The esn is not in the Sprint database and even if you wanted to use the phone strictly for traveling internationally, The sim card from Sprint will not work in the Verizon phone for the same reason. You'd have to "clone" the phone/esn and that is completely illegal. I would spend my time on craigslist or Facebook and try to trade your Verizon phone for a Sprint one. That's what I would do.
FYI . Verizon phones are actually in demand due to the much larger customer base so making a trade for a Sprint S4 or Note 2 should be fairly easy. But MAKE SURE you check the ESN with Sprint before making a trade because a blacklisted esn phone can NOT be activated and you will be SOL.
So only networks like at&t and T-mobile will work on my Unlocked verizon phone?

If you're referring to your Verizon phone being a "world phone" which does in fact have a sim card and gsm network capabilities, then technically yes it would perhaps be possible to get it to work on AT&T or T-Mobile onl;y but it would be very difficult and time consuming to unlock the sim portion of the Verizon phone and hack it so that it would not be rejected by either network due to the ESN. You'd have better luck trying T-Mobile because they seem to be more lax with unbranded iPhones etc on their network. But in all honesty you would be better off trading your Verizon phone especially if it has a clear esn and getting a phone that's ready to go with no headaches and fully functional on the network.
thanks for the replies
Hi im about to sell my nexus 5 because i want the G3 (b/c bigger screen better camera better battery) i am on ATT network and i want to make sure i can root and install custom ROMs on my G3. i had an ATT Galaxy S4 last year and was never able to root it because the bootloader was locked, thats why i went to the N5. i dont want this to happen again so heres what i want to know. which G3 variant should i buy? The D850, D855, F400k/s ? I need the phone to work on ATT's LTE network and i want to be able to root it and install custom ROM's hopefully cm11 when its available. i love my stock android on my nexus but i want the G3. was looking at the Find 7 and One plus one but their impossible to find. i have been searching the forums for a definitive answer and i am tired of looking. hopefully someone can point me in the right direction. Thank you for any help its much appreciated!
D851 the tmobile varient. Comes with an unlocked bootloader and can be rooted

I'd say T-Mobile for the reasons stated above.
T-Mobile as long as you understand a couple the main issues: You lose the 850mhz band and will have to enter your APN anytime you flash an update or anything. You will also have to unlock which can be had for $10-$30 depending on the source. I had a T-Mobile GS5 and it works fine overall but there are other things I found out as well. The T-Mobile version did not support AT&T Carrier aggregation which helps give you beeter speeds and bandwidth on their network. I am not sure the G3 will miss this feature though.
I would tell you this, if you can wait a few more days/weeks, then do. I think we have some very good devs trying to unlock the bootloader. The G2 is not much different from the G3 and it was cracked. If it looks promising then definitely get the AT&T version. If its not going to happen after a few weeks of them working, go with T-Mobile and live with the few compromises.

i will be selling some devices to cover the cost of the G3 so ill probably wait until i recieve the money from pay pal which is usually a week or so and if it looks promising ill get the ATT version otherwise ill get the tmobile. inputting the apn isnt that much of a hassle and unlocking is do-able but like you said if i can avoid those issues i will. Thanks for the advice everyone!
I too need to know the very same with a slight tweek. I already posted in the forum yesterday with not much difference in the answers.
Which varient is the most flexable if I can get it unlocked
I want to switch between cricket gsm and sprint.
I have a deal on a sprint g3 for 400 if the owner hasn't sold ot yet I would not like to jump through hoops and can believe each varient will be cracked in no time so band wise rootwise recoverywise, gsm unlockedwise, unlocked bootloaderwise and qi enabled wise which varient is the one to buy ?
Thanks

First, my apologies if this subject is already covered. I couldn't find anyone with a similar situation.
I have a Sprint G2 that I rooted and it is running CMod 11. I want to switch it to Verizon. I tried taking the phone to the Verizon store and they could not activate it for Verizon. I assume the phone is unlocked however because it activated just fine for Sprint and the Sprint guy told me that's an indication of being unlocked. True? Not sure.
The Verizon guys told me that I need to hack the radio frequencies of the phone before it would work with Verizon. I don't know where the settings are for this though. I already tried the trick of deleting 'Spr' out of a certain system file and I effectively bricked the phone. That didnt work and luckily I was able to revert to the stock rom.
My question is this: Can I get the phone to work with Verizon simply by flashing Verizon CMod to it? Or is it easy to find the settings for the radio frequencies that I need to change? Do I get any data once all is said and done? I don't look forward to unrooting and restoring the stock ROM JUST to hear Sprint say "Oh well we don't want to unlock it for you."

The G2 is only compatible with Verizon's 3G network. I doubt our radios work on the Verizon variant for LTE. Also, the IMEI would need to be whitelisted on Verizon's database. There's no other way around it. Better off selling the LS980 and buying a VS980 for Verizon.

1) no because the IMEI isn't in verizon's database / white listed
2) hardware for the radio is different then verizon's and you will be unable to get lte at all from it.
3) I would just restore to 100% stock (tot) and then sell it and then buy the Verizon version
i have inverse issue
well i bought a verizon variant, only because it was the only one with next day air delivery... I didnt do any research other than seeing that they had the same model number of 980 i figured a radio change and maybe rom change. i tried flashing a sprint rom on it it wont finish the install. do i need to get a sprint sim?
i might be interested in trading that sprint g2 for my verizon g2
we have 3 Note 10+ my son ordered his the day of the preorder release. he has the 256 version and my wife and i got the 512 version.
Upon my wife and I getting the phones we replaced the sim chips with new ones from AT&T instead of removing the ones in our Pixel 3xl. I noticed that AT&T Visual voice mail wasn't there but after loging into our voice mail account it downloaded a different visual voice mail program.
however we are having signal problems, I noticed that we didn't Get Voice over WIFI, Advanced Messaging, Volte etc. I called into support 611 and explained and they said that they would re-register our phones to turn them off for a few min and back on and should be ok.
That didn't' accomplish anything. I talked with an engineer that I know that works for AT&T and he said that my son's phone is provisioned for VOLTE with torch i think but not in the account screen. My wife and my devices are not provisioned for VOLTE HOWEVER NONE of our phones are connecting for voice or data to 4G LTE only 3G. He didn't know why but would check further.
after complaining to OOP with Samsung and being within the return window they said that we could order from them the branded AT&T phones and return our unlocked phones.
I realize that we will get stuck with the bloatware, but if we are getting 4G LTE VOLTE etc. maybe that is what should be done.
If we do that can we still get them unlocked and what do we loose by doing this? I appreciate the work everyone is doing here and I think hopefully I can get an honest answer vs everyone pointing the finger at everyone else.
My big concerns are:
If I keep these what do we loose?
How bad is the bloat ware?
If we change to T Mobile or others later can we, or if we travel, get AT&T to unlock the phones
If I keep these phones and flash the AT&T files will we:
Then get access to the programs and services we don't have now?
Get over the air updates as they are released?
I would highly appreciate any advice
Thank you for everyone's help in advance
I was getting horrible battery usage on my At&t branded Note 10+. What I did was flash the U1 unlocked firmware, set things up, made a few calls, sent a few text so things provisioned to At&t. I then flashed At&t csc with odin and this gave me 4GLte..wifi calling..video calling..advanced messaging..and volte

but your phone was branded AT&T right so theIMEI number is active in their system
I had the same issue - thankfully, I was able to test a friend's SIM card from AT&T and his worked! I saw an obscure reference (see below) to it being an issue with older SIM cards. I'm heading to AT&T store to replace mine tonight.
