Using Force GPU Rendering option - HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Does anyone use the "Force GPU Rendering" option in the Developer Option settings of the 10? Do you notice any difference in scrolling/animation speed or battery usage? I can't really tell if it actually changes anything.

If you use 3D UI in games and launchers you would feel the difference: no Micro stutters anymore

What about OEM unlocking, do I need to keep it enabled if I've already unlocked my bootloader?

You sure it just affects 3d? The option is described as "force used of gpu for 2d drawing".

Yes, it affects 2D effects in 3D graphics

Force 2d acceleration

I dont know if this got discussed already, but I just used the force 2d acceleration feature in the developer menu and hat a GREAT increase in perfomance, specialy in image heavy applications.
If you dont know this already test it, if you know it let us know
Some feedback on battery perfomance somebody?
You'll find some apps don't work too good with it enabled though.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
If you use any type of comic book reader, you will be happy by turning on 2d acceleration. went from horrible 2fps choppy crap to buttery smooth.

bah seriously.. someone needs to write up a sticky for this kind of thing. Developer Options are not meant for regular users. There's no reason to enable them unless you specifically need to.
A few reasons why you don't want to enable it
- some apps don't handle this well and will result in everything from poor performance, weird graphical glitches, or even stop the app from loading at all
- there is actually considerable memory overhead to GPU acceleration (8MB vs 2MB). So you're really just making your multi-tasking situation worse.

Enable GPU rendering?

Hey, how do I disable cpu rendering in the stock 4.3 rom for the FLO? I am rooted and everything and know alot about android. I know its possible for every android device and using GPU for rendering the UI will increase performance greatly. Does anyone know how or is there a kernel/mod that i can flash?

It's in the settings under the dev options. My question is, How slow is your N7 running that you think you need to do this?

Actually, I'm creating a rom, I want gpu rendering enabled when you first flash it

Stuff like the Steam app is absolutely terrible without GPU Rendering..
Build.prop edit

If changing service menu settings increase performance, why are they off ?

In service menu
HIGH TEMPERATURE PROPERTY OFF
THERMAL DAEMON MIGRATON OFF
and in developer options
FORCE GPU RENDERING
If there are options make the device run smoother why are they off by default?

So these threads can be made. Otherwise it would be too quiet on XDA, with only relevant and useful threads :good:

The first 2 functions are safeguard against 100celsius phone.
The "force gpu rendering" isn't all that useful - it only works for apps that don't support gpu rendering. And pretty much all modern apps have a good reason to do so...

Thank you for a great answer. I think if I disable thermal protection in software there is still hardware protection. So if a phone would get very very hot it would just shut down anyway?

Probably yes, however i haven't found anything regarding shutdown temperature of msm8975ac. There are no documents about this SoC, absolutely nothing.
Think about it: LG added their own "Emergency shutdown on high temp" thing = "High temperature property."
I doubt that LG would've implemented it if phone was able to shutdown on it's own. It's also possible that heating cpu up to it's "emergency shutdown temp" damages other phone parts.
It's the same like you can probably safely overclock your processor a little bit but manufacturers don't do it by default since they have to be safe in every usage scenario.
The default settings are always presented for a long term safe usage for durability of device under all use cases, but if you're aware and careful enough you can tweak these settings to gain some performance boosts if you consider your usage does not require these safety checks.

60FPS PUBG optimisation app.

PUBG doesn't run well on our low-end device especially with MIUI(talking about 2GB RAM variants). But custom ROMs have made that possible. Here is an app that'll make the gaming even smoother. Literally smoother. I've personally tried it and works surprisingly. Download the app given below and set the configurations as posted in the screenshot below.

Update: You can control the graphics as well.
Yes, i use that apps too, its so worked for me. The game run smoother, but its make your phone 45°C(thats mean hot)

Change graphic settings to so smooth. The game will look a bit ugly but less load on cpu i guess

Yup. Lower graphics. Not too low though. I prefer fps.

Any tips on how to make my phone run Fortnite better?

It runs like **** right now, the rendering resolution is set to 50% and stable 30 FPS is rarity.
our device is equiped with a decent enough cpu but the gpu sucks so dont get your hopes high ... did you try to reduce the resolution in the game launcher ?

Maybe it help...
Simple part :
First you can install magisk module like FDE.AI or NFS Injector or LKT (very good this one)
Medium :
Then You can try to overclock cpu and gpu with "kernel audiutor" for exemple. (GPU set to 745, governor on demand)
Hard Way :
Finally You can try to configure the app with "GLTools" (then disable MSAA, lower résolution...)
Good luck.

1. I've heard that A70 has problems with throttling too
2. In game launcher? I didn't see a single option regarding resultion in game launcher. Only in game itself and I lowered it to as much as I could.

i dont know about the throttling problem though during gaming my phone barely even gets hot ! compared to my s8 which has a beast of a gpu if you put it against the gpu in the a70 my s8 would get super hot during gaming
