hi guys,i'd like to know if it possible to mod old phones firmware such as nokia 8310/6510 to allow to send more than 160ch sms,and if it is possible how difficult would it be?
I love those phones, and don't use it more because of this limit...
For example the nokia 6310i in the latest firmwares supported 160+ch sms...although 6510 and 8310 don't (I have mine flashed).
Thanks a lot
no one can answer this?
seems possible... assuming the carrier supports it should be possible

The carrier supports.
and as I said 6310i got it supported through firmware updates, so guess it shouldn't be that hard..any clues from where to start?
plzz can any one tell me SAR value of htc one m8 (uk)? Or can some point me in the right direction?
Confirmed by HTC UK:
SAR RATING FOR HTC ONE M8
Head: 0.419 W/[email protected] (CE)
Body: 0.22 W/[email protected] (CE)
Hope this helps
I see many different values for the same mobile.
For example:
www dot gsmarena dot com/htc_one_%28m8%29_cdma-6233 dot php
www dot phonearena dot com/phones/HTC-One-M8_id8242/fullspecs
and
www dot t-mobile dot de/
Have all of them different values. I have to say I am a bit confused...
Why does anybody care about SAR values?

But phones don't emit enough energy, or energy of the correct type to be harmful to humans.
The radiation emitted is non-ionizing so it cannot damage cells, so the effect is limited to heating. It would take well over a week for a phone to melt a block of ice the size of your head. Your head has a very efficient mechanism for regulating heat: blood flow.
People should stop worrying about mobile phone use as a health issue. The science is pretty convincing and was established by the likes of Einstein a long time ago and without being refuted since. Packaging it into a consumer device doesn't change that.
Hi folks.
Being long time user of HTC Desire, I'm finally looking for a proper replacement device (Desire still alive and kicking, thanks for asking ) and yes, I'm HTC fanboy.
I live in Croatia and I'm looking at M8 developer edition from htc.com.us, main reason being its unavailability in Europe. I can get it via friend who lives in US. Another reason is that here in Croatia there's only 16GB version available in stores. I'm not a developer though, but I want to be able to root it easily if I want to. I do have some experience with it by rooting and tweaking my Desire.
Now, my specific need is audio quality in video recording in low light and loud sound environment because I work in live music / touring business and I attend lots of concerts. The other thing is that I like to take pictures while on the road, through moving vehicle window. Even though many people ***** about M8's camera low specs (low MP, that is), according to real users experience I still think that M8 can comply my needs well because I use these videos and photos mostly for personal use and social pages.
But there are few things for which I need advice:
1. Am I right thinking that M8 will do well for my specific needs mentioned above? Can someone please post some videos from concerts and/or pictures of fast-moving objects?
2. As US and Europe use different voltage in power grid (110V vs 220V), can I simply use the charger from my old Desire to charge M8 normally?
3. Will the warranty (not necessarily HTC Advantage, just usual and general 2-years international warranty in case of defected device) be valid in Europe? There is official HTC service center here in Croatia but for proper answer from them I need to give them IMEI No of the device, which I obviously don't have yet. I know this is a tough one but someone out there might know the answer.
4. I like dot view case a lot, but its hinge issue and price tag keeps me on the fence for it, please advice with your experience with it..
5. Do I really need developer edition or I'll be fine with just unlocked device considering that their price is the same?
6. Excuse my english if it's no good, it's not my mother tongue
7. Any answer and advice will be highly appreciated
Thanks in advance
2. Not recommended. The standard M8 charger provides up to 1.5A, and I'm pretty sure your old Desire charger doesn't. This will result in longer charging times. All chargers work with both 110V and 220V, and both 50Hz and 60Hz. So you can use the standard M8 US charger in your country with a simple adapter (just to make it physically fit your wall outlet).
5. The Developer Edition comes with an unlocked bootloader, while the "regular" carrier-unlocked edition doesn't. That's pretty much the whole difference between them. Since you know that unlocking the bootloader yourself is not such a big deal, I'd say it doesn't really matter which of them you choose.

I just checked my Desire charger and yes, input voltage is 100-240V and 50-60Hz, but the output is 5V and 1A. Generally I don't mind that much about charging times because I usually charge it overnight and as I already have the adapter for US plug type, this revelation definitely solves one of my worries.
I will also go for developer edition then, I like my devices factory clean and ready to be used in its full potential.

Buy the WWE international version - it's unbranded, clean and factory state from the get-go. Unlock the bootloader/use S-OFF. - Then if you choose convert it to a dev edition if that's what you truly want.

hmm.. can you please post a link for that version, preferably of online store? I can't find any.
I was looking at htc.com only as I don't trust resellers too much and only unbranded versions there are unlocked and DevEd so I was just choosing between those two.
Besides, $700 directly from HTC is quite different than €700 - its price in EU, but I'm still worried about warranty issue. I probably won't root it right away, I just want to be safe in case of defected device.
hey guys, sorry for the bump, I'm running out of time on this..
So, I live in Europe and I want to buy developer edition (or unlocked/unbranded one) M8 straight from htc USA but I'm worried about the warranty.
Does anyone knows will the warranty (not necessarily HTC Advantage, just usual and general 2-years warranty in case of defected device) be valid in EU? I asked HTC customer support about this but no answer from them. I don't want to end up with $700 paper weight by getting faulty device.
thanks
Pretty sure it's a US-only warranty as it's a US-only model

Shouldn't it be international version coz it's not available anywhere else?
What about unlocked/unbranded version? Would that one be a wiser choice for me?
thanks

The 'Developer Edition' M8 is the US version of the International unbranded M8, for those not wanting to buy through a carrier. The US is a different beast when it comes to mobile phones. If you're in the EU, get the unbranded EU model as the warranty is then valid and you'll get updates in a timely manner (probably quicker than the US phones!)

Trust me, I would if 700 USD (in US) would be the same as 700 € (in Europe) or even 790 € (in my country). That's no less than 250-370 USD difference so you see why I'm exploring this option to get the phone, even if I don't get the updates instantly...
Then get it. Just don't brick it

no way.. I won't even touch it, I'll frame it and hang it on my wall
seriously, maybe I will root it some day, but for now I just want a device that works fine and to be safe with possible defects.
Hi All. This is a very specific question. I'd like to know the concrete differences between the many models under "Galaxy S6"
For example, zerofltexx vs zeroltespr. I do know that spr is for Sprint and the other is the International.
But what I want to know is:
- Is there any hardware difference?
- Would I be able to flash a fltexx in a ltespr (I suspect that I won't be able to do calls, but I don't care about that, I just want to know if it would work
correctly for the hardware)
- Is the baseband different?
Thank you!,
John A.
this link might help you:

I believe they both have identical hardware. And yes you can flash either XAS or SPR firmware, it works fine from my experience

Hi,
As per title, I have decided I want one of these HUs with the RK3399 and the MTCD/E MCU. I plan to flash with a custom ROM as soon as I have tested it and before installation.
History: had a Joying 10 inch a few years ago, hated it, want to do it right this time!
The vehicle (in my case) is a 2009 Toyota Prado 120 (similar to the Lexus GX470) RHD, The units I am looking at are full ctr console replacements with fascia and vertical screens.
After wading through the seemingly endless mire of Aliexpress listings and producing a shortlist, I am still a little overwhelmed and confused; prices and specs seem to be all over the place and in many places are contradictory. I'm an eBay kid, I have hardly used Ali before.
Of course, once I shorten my list a little bit more, I will get in contact with each seller to verify hardware specs and make sure I'm getting excatly what I am paying for.
So to help me (and maybe others having a read!) I have a few questions to help me filter out the 'too good to be trues' and the outright liars.
1. Hardware - does the fact that the unit has a RK3399 mean it is definitely a MTCD/E MCU?
2. Hardware(again) - does the fact that they state PX6 necessarily mean its a 3399?
3. Resolution - I have seen all manner of resolutions stated here... the most common seems to be 1024*760/600 but there are a fair few listings saying 1920*1080... which definitely piqued my interest. Is this an outright lie or is it possible that they really do have 1920*1080 displays? (my guess is they're listing it as a "yes it can display 1920*1080 content" and not necessarily actual screen res.)
I would love a true 1080 display but it's potentially too good to be true!
4. Screens - What specifically (if anything) should I look out for/ask about in relation to the screen? model number? some say IPS, some don't.... Are they all the same? (they certainly look pretty similar!)
5. AliEx stores - If anyone has any honest stores they would like to suggest I'm all ears(eyes?) Or even other outlets to buy these things? (eBay doesn't have much listed for my car) The stores I am shortlisting are ones that have decent ratings (obviously) and have been established for more than a year.
6. Anything else? tricks for new players?
Bear with me - its a solid chunk of cash and a decision I will have to live with for some years!
Yes it's my first post - have used the forum over the years for all sorts of information, hopefully I can give some back!
I'll have a go at answering some of your questions, but I'm fair new to this whole Android head unit game so if I'm wrong someone will hopefully correct me.
What was is it specifically about the Joying unit that you hated that you hope will be addressed by a new unit?

1) MTCD/E are MCU's manufactured by Microntek, but there are other manufacturers of MCUs out there than can be paired with the PX6, so there is no guarantee that a RK3399 means that the unit is fitted with an MTCD/E MCU
2) My understanding is that the RK3399 is a generic SoC, PX6 is a verson of the RK3399 specifically tailored for use in head units.
3) I don't know, but I would be wary of anyone claiming 1920 x 1080
4) Not sure
5) I bought a unit from Dasaita on AliExpress. It definately wasn't straightforward (first unit was sent to some other destination, they had to send me a replacement via DHL). But they did at least try to get things sorted ina timely manner. I chose Dasaita (aka hot-audio) mainly because they do post here on XDA. They are also on eBay, but the prices on Ali are better.
6) The aftermarket service from Dasaita leaves something to be desired, but from what I can see, none of them are very good at this. But I guess that's the price you pay for buying a cheap head unit. Overall, I'm very happy with my Dasaita PX6 unit, but i've only had it installed for a month, so early days.
Anyway, I hope that this is of some help to you, and good luck with your search!

Hey thanks for the reply!
The Joying unit was likely my own fault for not doing enough research prior to purchase, paid too much for too little I guess.
It worked well for a while but progressively got slower until it was nearly unusable for anything more than a clock and radio, this was quite a few years ago though and I had not found any alternative firmware at the time, I eventually just formatted it for some minor improvement and sold the car anyway.
With this new unit I will be running hal9k from the start instead of the default firmware and am expecting fairly smooth operation. It will be used for offline raster maps while I am out in the bush
Thanks for the information regarding the hardware, I still had a few grey areas in my mind there so that helps clear a bit up.
I wanted to use Dasaita as they seemed to be recommended but they do not sell to suit my model.
I will start making some enquiries today and see if I can get any clarification on those 1920 displays.
Cheers!
