[Q] Does this method of rooting work with the nexus galaxy?

It mentions galaxy nexus. I didn't unlock my phone right away and now I regret it. I don't want to lose my app data and since I don't have root I can't use TB to back up my apps.
So will this be a good alternative, or should I avoid it?
Is there a down side to using this method instead of doing it the old fashioned way?
if this is useless, any recommendations on how I can safely back up my app data before unlocking the bootloader?

never seen or used this. you can, but i prefer doing it manually. not really that hard.,
and theres a thread somewhere in general that tells you how to back up your stuff without root or unlocked bootloader.
something involving ADB commands. might be just better off starting again from fresh

Unlocked / rooted mine right after I got it. Wipes it (the unlocking part), but it was easy, but I'm pretty good with adb and fastboot. Give it a try, there seems to be a bunch of one click tools out now.

this method seems to implement security vulnerability in android to escalate user privileges and install super user.
So this method is not an automatic version of the regular (boot unlock using fastboot), meaning it skips the whole wipe after unlock requirement.
anyway, I am gonna try it when I get home and report results.

I am new to the nexus 7.
Can I root without unlocking the broader?
What is the side effect of unlocking the boot loader?
Is there existing method to root without installing customer recovery?

There is currently no known way to root without unlocking the bootloader and using a custom recovery.
Unlocking the bootloader allows you more control over the tablet. Specifically to install custom recovery, ROMs, etc. Most of the benefits from an unlocked bootloader are things you do from a custom recovery, not through the bootloader itself. The only real negative 'side effects' are that you lose some of the safety benefits, since you can do dangerous things if you don't know what you are doing, and that it may void your warranty.

2. Technically you can, but not recommend; just wait for the rooted stock and flash that.

Regarding your #2, there is no reason not to unlock the bootloader to get OTA updates. The only thing that breaks OTA is custom recovery.

Completely correct. I just said not to do it, cause he seems less experienced, and from my experience, they get freaked out afterwards trying to put it back on. So trying to save him a headache, lol.

I recommend staying stock unless you absolutely need a specific root required app.
Right now there isn't a reason for root access except titanium backup.
I do recommend, however, to go ahead and unlock. It will wipe your device including personal data, so might as well get that out of the way now before you risk losing something important.
You can easily flash a custom recovery and root anytime after that, but I would wait until knowledgeable devs figure out the device a little more first.

I'm not sure why you would suggest people not to root now. You mentioned a very good reason to do so - Titanium Backup. Not only is it useful for backups in general, but it's also a lifesaver for copying apps and their data from one device, like someone's old N7, to their new N7.
While I would certainly agree that people should wait before flashing custom ROMs, kernels, hacks, etc., nothing is going to change with rooting your N7 today versus a week or month from now. All the pros and cons will still be the same.

They guy doesn't need root. He also doesn't understand root. So his chances of softbricking are good, and then, instead of us trying to talk him out of rooting, we now have to talk him through how to fix it.... .. Can we count on you to provide this support since your are so OK with him rooting now?

Neither you nor I have any idea what he needs or doesn't. He hasn't said anything other than asking some basic questions about the process. There are numerous guides on here that walk people through rooting step by step. There are also a handful of people who have soft bricked their device and asked for and received help. And yes, I have assisted people with similar issues in the past. Everyone on this board has at one point in their lives screwed something up - that's how we learn.
In any case, my point was that there is no clear reason for him not to do it if he wants to. The device is pretty forgiving unless he kills the bootloader.

Both Kingroot and Kingoroot will grant you TEMPORARY and very unstable root access, but it only lasts for a minute or two, at best, and definitely NOT through a reboot. Look for a guide to Permanent Root and TWRP for instructions on how to gain permanent root privileges. To summarize the process, you'll need to exploit the temporary root access in order to push some commands to modify your CID, essentially converting your retail phone to a Developer Edition. Repeating a similar process cracks the kernel open (and trips Knox, but that isn't necessarily a deterrent), at which point you can install a custom TWRP recovery, then flash custom rooted firmware. Upgrading to Marshmallow requires most of these procedures to be repeated all over again. Obviously, there is more to it than what I've stated, but that is a basic overview of what you'll need to do in order to achieve perma-root. There is a lot of reading involved and no real shortcuts, but all the information you'll need is in this forum and it is very much worth all the aggravation. Just be sure to set aside a few hours to dedicate to the process. Good luck!

Gaining access to system files without rooting?

Hey all,
Im currently trying to do some forensic work on this watch and was wondering if there is anyway to get access to all of the data on the device. Obviously using adb gives me access to some of the files and folders but root etc is unavailable.
Is there anyway i can access these files temporarily without compromising the data on the device itself? Someone i spoke to mentioned the possibility of loading TWRP temporarily and possibly gaining access this way
I don't want to root it unless there is no other options.

I don't think TWRP is gonna work. You can't boot it unless you hav an unlocked bootloader. And unlocking the bootloader would mean formating the data. If adb is enabled you could try to make an adb backup (I don't know if it's even possible in android wear) https://www.technipages.com/how-to-backup-your-entire-android-device

Thanks for the reply. If what im trying to do is not possible i may look in to what data is consistently available if rooting is the best option. Is the SW3 easily unrooted so i could look in to this?

I suggested adb backup mainly because it doesn't require root. Rooting and unrooting is archieved thought TWRP.

The adb back up does not seem to work on the watch which is a shame. Thanks for the advice though people. Will now look at rooting etc

Sorry, also, how would i go about putting the device back to stock, i want to root and unroot a couple of times to see if information still exists on the device.

Hey all,
Well i have the device rooted etc and i am now trying to get the partitions off the device. I have used the dd to /sdcard etc and all works well but was trying to do this via netcat. Thing is the device doesn't seem to recognise the binary files and will not run them. Any ideas as to why? I have tried standalone netcat as well as toybox.
I know i can run netcat from the device as i managed it by installing busybox to the watch. But the work im doing means i dont want to re sync the phone to a device after i unlock the bootloader and it factory resets.

What are my (best) options for root?

I recently started using Moto G6 Play, and am wondering now what is the best and easiest option for root. I searched a bit on the forum and found one thread for root that includes unlocking bootloader and is more complicated than some info i have found on google - rooting with KingoRoot without pc (if that's even possible).
Device info: XT1922-3, 3/32gb
Build number: OPPS27.91-177-2
Android 8, latest security patches, available 9 Pie update.
Soo, my question is - Will methdos like KingoRoot work because that will suit just fine for me since i do not want to flash anything extra, but only debloat and optimize stock rom? And i suppose my bootloader is locked because when i power up with volume down + power it says oem_locked so thats another reason for pcless root.
Anyone can help?

DONT USE KINGO ROOT. For one you have to unlock the bootloader anyway so you can root please just use my guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/g6-play/how-to/guide-t3929928 to avoid screwing up your phone with any root like KINGO root. You have come on here asking what the preferred method is and over 5,000 people are using my guide lol so my guide is the preferred. You need all that in order to pass play store safety net if you even want be able to download alot of games or if you download the apks the game won't load and KINGO root 100% fails safety net checks to make sure your passing it

Well yea, i gave up on KingoRoot after some researching that it might not be safest thing to use. But it seemed pretty handy for my situation. And yes i saw your guide and considered it as option but didnt really find any more reliable threads (maybe i didnt search long enough tho). Btw, as i noticed you method requires unlocked bootloader so if you have some thread available about it throw it here if you can, if not thanks anyways.

The link for unlocking it is in the guide...... Just read the guide. And my guide is plenty reliable on here you just have to read it.....

It's not an option, it's THE WAY. It's how to root.
Unlock bootloader, flash TWRP, use TWRP to flash encryption disabler and magisk.
Systemless root is the way now. Root is in the boot.img now. One click roots are dead.
