Hi
I think it's time to try some roms again. Previously once I had TWRP loaded I made a Nandroid, flashed the new rom and if there was something wrong with it, I would revert to the Nandroid, but it always just boot looped.
Since I really would like to be able to revert to my pre rom flashing stock image / set up, thought I better ask official method or even if it's possible?
Thanks .[emoji3]

hey i had skyraider then used chad's kernal and it got stuck in the boot loop. so i just restored it using the clockwork. now everything is back to normal just rooted. so...if i ever decide i want to go back to stock rom and kernal when i have custom roms and kernals cant i just restore it back to normal? does this make sense?
Is the backup you have of SkyRaider or a backup of the Stock ROM you made after rooting? You can always restore backups of anything you make to the point in which the backup was made. You should backup before flashing something new, in case you don't like it...saves lots of work.
If you want to go back to complete stock, un-rooted and all, you'd have to use the RUU. This would be putting the phone to the point just like it was when you unboxed it and turned it on.
ah ok i get it. yea i backed up before i flashed skyraider and the kernel. Thx
No problem, just some added info: the backup you make will also keep the kernel, so if you flash a custom kernel and backup the ROM, it'll keep that kernel too. So there's no need to reflash that if you restore a backup.
And s-on patch to unroot. Dont get in the situation like me where you can't s-on and use your warranty

Hi all, Just want to verify that my thinking is straight on this. If after rooting and before flashing a custom Rom, I make a Nandroid Backup; I can revert back to my stock rom at ant time by reverting to that stored backup? If my thinking is wrong..how would i return to my stock rom after flashing a custom rom?

That is correct. Backup and at any time boot into CWM and restore your backup.

When i flashed cm9 i simply just wiped everything, and flashed cm9. Is there a different procedure when going from and aosp based rom back to a stock rom? Do i need to flash a stock firmware? or can i just flash the nandroid backup i made after rooting for the first time? and in the future if i wanted to go back to cm9/10 or aokp will it be the same as i did before?
I've nandorid back to stock every time. I never flashed back. If you want to return to a cm9/cm10 build...yes, just rewipe like you did before and you'll be fine. Just keep that backup you have safe.

Hi, guys, I have the flashing of custom roms down to an art now, but I'm trying to return to stock and now i have bootloops. I wiped the cache and dalvik cache, and wiped user data. I then selected to restore my nandroid backup, which was successful, but now I'm stuck in a bootloop when attempting to power on. It still shows my custom splash screen for a second then switches to stock splash screen and continues with the boot. Once it fully boots then it will reset. When I changed the splash screen I did use the p32img.zip method, but before I did the restore I renamed it so it wouldn't load it. Any ideas why it still shows my custom splash, and more importantly, what am I doing wrong to create the bootloops. I've considered just flashing a stock rom to replace my nandroid just in case I backed it up incorrectly (which is possible since this is my first phone I've done this on). Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated.
What ROM was your backup? Restoring a nandroid won't change the splash.

it was the just the stock rom. 2.3.4 gingerbread. strange thing i just noticed is that if i boot into bootloader then connect to pc and reboot, then it won't bootloop....why is that? should i just flash a different stock rom and set that as my backup or are there things in the original nandroid that are specific to my phone? thanks for the reply by the way.

Did you downgrade with tacoroot? Try flashing the .0312 radio.
Hi all,
Last year I took my stock One X and upgraded it to JB 4.1, an AOSP. I made a Nandroid backup first. Now that new phones are being released I am wondering whether to upgrade to 4.2.2 or revert to stock so it's easier to sell. I read about how once you go to 4.2 it gets more tricky so I thought 'fine, back to stock I go'. I used the Nandroid backup to get back to stock and all is fine, seemingly. I'm exactly where I was 8 months ago or so. However my phone tells me that there are updates for me, I should install them, but when I try it just seems to boot into Clockworkmod with an error. I'm sure i'm doing something very silly and easily remedied but if someone could let me know what that is i'd be forever grateful.
For reference the exact error is...
Finding update package...

Many thanks!
Flash stock recovery to update.

Thank you. I had flashed the recovery that was in my nandroid, but evidently it wasn't stock, so I found a new one. Thanks again.
Yeah a recovery from a nandroid is never a stock one, because the nandroid can only be made with a custom one, so it always backs up the custom one

Unless you use "fastboot boot customrecoveryblabla.img" then make a nandroid before you flash cm or twrp or am I wrong here?

Guess you could be right, its also done with testing kernels ...so why not the recovery !
