Hi all,
I wish to buy a new tablet but I'm wondering about which one to buy.
At first I was off on a galaxy note 10.1 2014 but after seeing tests on galaxy tab s I am interested, mainly thanks to autonomy.
By cons I read about several who said that the processor was not great and the tablet knew several lags.
My main use will be surfing, a little play and some times few films.
So what tablet choose to have a good flow and very good battery life.
Moreover, I'm French, can I buy my tablet in Canada and install a French ROM ?
Also, do you think the galaxy tab s will receive android L ?
Thanks a lot !!

Don't be discouraged by the videos in the post above mine and the negative comments by others. I'm sure those who say they are experiencing serious lag isses actually are. But not everyone is having those issues. My tablet does not come anywhere close to the lag on that video. It's hard for me to believe it's the same tablet. My tab S is the best tablet experience I have ever had and I would not try to turn anyone away from it. My suggestion is purchase it from a company with an easy return policy and give it a try for youself. If you experience the issues like in that guy's video return it for another one or move on to something else.

Well I would suggest you try it before you buy it or buy it where you can return it without restocking fee or any problems.
While the tablet has a good screen (a bit over saturated and unrealistic colors) it's kinda nice how the colors pops out.
If your main usage will be surfing, I don't know if all of them are that way, but at least mine and 2 others that I tried at different stores had something like stuttering while scrolling a web page, let me explain it. When you are scrolling, instead of the text scrolling with smooth movement, it jumps, sure those jumps are "small" but that jumpy text at least on my case was causing major headaches at the point, that I stop using it and return it (and paying $75 USD for restocking fee). Those jumps are more like it's dropping frames. On my opinion that is not acceptable for a "high end tablet", also when I tried for 20 minutes Asphalt 4 I saw some frames dropped. Also just typing or deleting something it was laggy. So this tablet for web browsing/e-mail, in my case was useless.
If you want to watch movies, I saw some on my 10.5 and yeah it was nice for scenes with vivid colors, but when there are shadows, because the blacks are to deep you loose all detail on the shadows, and instead of shadows you will se only clipped blacks. (not everybody will notice) but my hobby is Photography so I really notice this.
Battery life, well it's ok, not the greatest (comparing to my old iPad 2)
In terms of quality build, imo it's very good.
Well at the end I got a tab pro 8.4 and it has been a pleasure to use. Not a single jittering/lag issue as I was having with the tab s, I would probably say the problem of the tab S is that uses the Exynos combo.
Again, maybe all this issues I had with the Tab S, not everybody may notice, but for those who are sensitive to things like this, is a pain to use. That's why you will read some mixed opinions. So that's why I will suggest you to TRY it before with cold brain and not letting you get blown by the oversaturated colors.
My .2 cents.
So I've been a long time samsung fan since the first galaxy s phone, since I've had the s2, s3, note 2,note 3, and currently the note 4.
My job gave me an iphone 5s and I find myself doing more and more with that over my personal phone (the note 4)
I used to love customizing, rooting and installing roms. But so far that isn't possible with this phone.
These days all I do with my phone is browse the web, watch videos and text.
I'm so tempted to sell my note 4 and grab an iphone 6 (the 4.7") for the size of it. I've been getting tired of using a belt holster for my phone.
I'm a tech person and work in IT, I feel like I'll regret switching but I'm so tempted to do so anyway.
Anyone want to talk me off the cliff and remind me what I'll be missing?

Very easy, my GF (super Apple believer, always had Macs and iPhones) got an iPhone 6 of course and she can't regret it more. She's even been considering getting an android phone! Which is absolutely crazy for her.
Bottom line, you'll regret it. Sounds like you are an android veteran so I don't need to list here why it's infinitely better than iOS, even on a non-rooted phone.
Heck, if you can't live without root get a different Android phone! Or a rootable Note 4! There's plenty to choose from, don't fall far Apple's fake charm, besides the company now is at its lowest point ever.
Again, you'll regret it for sure!
oh, how I love the "talk me out of switching to an iphone" threads [/sarcasm]
If you're going to switch, just do it. You dont need anyone to talk you into or out of it. You can make your own decisions.
The IPhone 6 will be so boring for you! Just a stupid app drawer with barely any customization available. Unless you use Mac for everything else I can't imagine why you would want to be stuck in that ecosystem. Have you tried just carrying your phone naked in your pocket or use a pouch case? I use a leather wallet case and it fits my front pocket perfectly and I don't even need to carry a wallet anymore. You will also miss the screen, I promise you. I watched a 4k video in YouTube right next to my buddies iPhone 6 and it was no contest. The only other reason i can think of to switch is the better slow motion video, but that's literally it! Don't do it buddy, stay on the light side!
I had an iPhone, first one was the 5. As soon as I started using it I thought, wow, I get it! I could see why so many people like them. After a few months though, I started getting bored and frustrated by little limitations, mainly the lack of user adjustable settings both system wide and per app. So, I switched back to Android. I can't talk you out of an iPhone, because it's a great device, just not for me. The only way you can know if it's right for you is if you try it. Personally, it's my opinion that HTC makes the best phone you can buy.
If you're looking for a smaller phone, I'd look into the lg g3 or the xperia z3 compact. Both are great phones that I'd honestly pick up over the iphone 6.
Just do it traitor. Who needs to convince you. You are your own person. Jeez

Dude im 19 but turning 20 on the 20th of this month and have been with android since after my first phone the iPhone 3G. Since then -> HTC One X -> LG G Flex -> SGN4 all on AT&T. Everyone else in my family is using iphones from iPhone 5C's to iPhones 6's. I'm the odd guy out but I'm the guy who is like you. I root my phones when I can and I compile android roms for them as well when I can. I brought aokp 4.4.2 for the HOXL for example the first one to do that even beat official aokp upon release. But even without root Android has loads more too offer than iTunes app store especially if your a developer. Also one reason thats major to stick with the Galaxy Note 4 is for the Gear VR. Freaking oculus rift portable basically and vr gaming and cinema. Also its Quad HD 551 something DPI display. <- AnTuTu says it has 641 or something DPI I think specs are wrong from what is mentioned. I think AnTuTu is right. Also Galaxy Note 4 is using Gorilla Glass 4 . Also microSD card slot = expand storage up to 128 GB totaling to 160 GB's. Using SD card storage for movies music , utorrent (tv series etc.) Move app data to sdcard to increase storage and when we get root move entire apps to sd cards swap apps etc. You can also have camera save pictures and videos to ext sd card. We get android lollipop soon either end of this month most likely January. Also Note 4 is awarded with best color recreation read it multiple websites blogs etc. A stylus and optical image stabilization 4k video recording at 60 FPS! in UHD which I have it auto save to micro sd card then transfer vids and pics to pc. I have over 300 apps on my Note 4 and 4 HD movies and 800 songs downloaded from spotify. Several multi gb games. Because i transfer app data to sd card that im fine with them not working temporarily while sdcard it out and in my pc. Apps are back after the fact. When root does come out it will be the best phone ever #Note that it already isn;t! Swappable battery 3220 mah fast charge is legit! If you want to root now really bad get a tablet I recommend the nexus 9. >.< And check out the thread root progress note 4 att and someone is working on root for AT&T note 4 and seems close, just takes time and patience and we will have root and then customization and the best hardware and software.
Edit:: sorry for the typos typed in 50 seconds. busy. saw this had 2 respond
If you like iOS just switch. You've used Android before so you should be aware what you're leaving behind, so there shouldn't be a need for anyone to convince you to stay with Android.
My GF has been an iphone user since the first iphone, all the way up to the 5c. She had major problems with her last iPhone (5c) and she still planned on uograding to the 6+. I talked her into getting a Note 4, and she couldn't be happier. She had played with her friends android phone a couple years ago, a cheap entry level htc, and that left a bad taste in her mouth. She thought that was the experience involved with all android phones. Now that she has a flagship android device, she's all android and not looking back to ios.
Just switch, iPhones are great, easy to use and smooth ui I still love iPhones even though I'm on a note 4 and my wife is on yhr galaxy s5, the s5 is the perfect size phone, I'm starting to regret my note, too bulky and no root... I will really regret it if there is never going to be a root...
or have them both, that's why I carry both of my note 4 and an ipodtouch 5th gen with me all the time, same ios function, updated ios, with facetime, I just use mobile hotspot tethering on my note 4 to supply net to my ipod though whenever I need it
People bash the iPhone but I had a 6 Plus and a 6 and they are wonderful phones. Yeah its not customizable and blah blah blah but regardless they are excellent device and the kind of set it and forget it device. You get updates quickly and you don't have it wait around for an update to hit your device. Apps are optimized way better for ios. It just depends on what your needs are. I switched back to the Note 4 because expandable memory is a big thing for me and the certain features. There is nothing more smooth than an ios device so dont let people sway you into thinking the iPhone is a bad device. Your always going to get that answer on xda.
Remember that if you want the better resolution screen you need the 6plus which has the true 1080p screen. The 6plus also has an estimated battery life of about 24 hours tall time 16 stand by time, the screen resolution is 1920x1080 at 401ppi and it's there retina display so there's that,
the note 4 has 23 hours talk and 14 hours standby, it has a 2560x1440 resolution screen with 515ppi,
both have finger print recognition both have NFC with a mobile wallet, depending on where you live mobile wallet might not even matter yet, both are large thin phones.
The iPhone 6plus 16gig is 300$ on contract with att, the note 4 32gig is 300$ as well.
I sell these phones all day, the iPhone 6 is a hell of a lot more popular than the 6plus, the note 4 gets some love but with Samsung not really marketing as hard as apple it's a slow sell, both are amazing phones but I prefer the "freedom" of my note 4, keep in mind I phones are all jailbreak able at this moment where as we have nothing but stock , this is not to speculate what we MAY have in the future. This is a here and now comparison of the facts for each phone, not speculation or opinion. That is why processor and memory are not brought up, in real world use it depends on what you do to really know if one is better than the other...
So there's your reasoning, go ahead and pick
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using XDA Free mobile app
Chromecast, Gear vr, sd cards, more options for 3rd party accessories, ir blaster, Samsung phones are easier to fix. More apps. S-pen, better multi tasking features. 2k display, better hardware. Idk Last Iphone I had was a 3g. I'm not sure how much they've improved the os.
Nahh i have an iPhone 5s and it's solid but I don't see myself being able to handle it as my daily phone regardless of screen size. I just use it as an ipod or if my battery runs out on my note 4 i can just switch very temporarily
The only thing I have to say about switching over to any other device other then the note series is "S-pen". If you use it a lot, trust me you will miss it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using XDA Free mobile app
True I had the OnePlus One and I did miss the S-pen. I also missed the Super Amoled screen. As well as the ir blaster. Note 4 is sexy. People are always checking mine out.
Just go iPhone you will love it.

Whether you were considering the Note 7, or you have one, which phone are you considering now? I'll have a few common sense picks up to get us started, and you can upvote the one you're picking, and you can add any that you are getting if they're not listed!
Galaxy S7 Edge
LG V20
Pixel XL
iPhone 7 Plus
Galaxy Note 5
Wait for the Galaxy S8/S8 Plus/whatever they call the planned Note 8
I can't decide between a OnePlus 3 or an Axon 7. Both great phones for just $400. Don't wanna be tied down to a carrier
Pixel XL
Galaxy S7!
Djuice carrier solution for note 7 pre orders in Norway is getting 90 dollar discount on s7 edge, +gear s2 free +wireless charger. Should I go for it?
Sony Xperia XZ
stuck with a sucky S3 till the Pixel XL comes out.
There is not a single phone made that offers everything the N7 did. They are all bricks in comparison when looking at the screen size to body size ratio. Only the S7 is close to that ratio of the N7. I really can't find a phone that I want to buy right now. They all have too many cons in comparison to the N7 (spare the clichéd jokes about the battery). I will probably get a full refund for my N7 and go back to my Rom'd Dev Note 4 until the S8 line gets revealed and see what they hold in store. Hoping for a 5.7" S8 phone with more improvements. Also hoping that a revamped Note line (call it the Note 8) is developed and released sooner to make up for the N7 battery debacle. I will have to be patient and will miss the N7 as it offers almost everything I have been wanting in a phone for years. By far the best overall phone made to date, hoping someone else makes a similar device besides Samsung so we have options.
I am in the same boat as you
Ok so I'm not actually a Note 7 owner (just a wannabee owner) I'm curious to see how many people answering here are willing to switch to another model that does not feature a pen.
If I did not care about the pen I would definitely switch to an S7 Edge. However because I love the pen I'm sticking with my Note 4. I've been using it for quite a while now with Maximum OVRdriVe ROM and everything works excellently. I regularly take pics with it that I get compliments on. I can easily conduct all the activities that I need to on it including web browsing, e-mail, messaging, reading documents, listening to music, and even watching videos. The only downside is that when I use it with a Gear VR headset it does overheat usually after about 15-20 minutes. Also some of the more graphics-intensive VR videos are choppy.
I'm not massively bothered about the pen, so I'm going to the Pixel XL, I can't bring myself to go for a phone that will have it's replacement out in a few months, as at this point the S8 won't be far off.
LGv20. I already have an S7 Edge and there is no replacement for the Note 7. I'll just get the V20 until Sammy gets it together.
Back to the Note 4 for me and wait to see what all is announced for the S8 Models!
Went to Apple for a 7plus 256gb..none in stock...so I went S7 edge FD.......glad I did!
I am using google pixel XL from last one week but already got bored with it. I bought Pixel after using many phones i.e Galaxy S7 edge, Redmi note 3 Pro, Nexus 5X, Lg G5 etc
I agree camera of Pixel is probably best but still very much comparable to previous Nexus 5X/6p. Galaxy s7 edge was faster to focus and was better in low light and for moving object whereas Pixel offer sharp and best still photography. I got bored because i miss certain features for example there is no real water proofing, no sd card, no miracast when much cheaper redmi note 3 can be connected to TV without any WIFI etc. Google want us to invest in chromecast that cannot even connect to mobile without WifI . samsung also offered sidesync which was great to connect mobile with laptop to watch media and use all application on PC.
I am confuse whether to stick with Pixel Xl or resell it. I will lose probably another 50 quid if decide to sell it. I got it cheaper for £308 by selling s7 edge for £270 but now i regret because i think google is charging way too much just for camera and software and is not actually all rounder to compete with features offer by others brand . How many of you are actually content with this phone ?
I had the explosive note, the new iPhone 7+ when it came out and the S7 Edge . The Google Pixel Camera is far the best and on top of that, the Pixel has not crashed once on me yet. The Samsung devices are bloated and laggy after a week yet my pixel stands in perfect condition and I had the worst experience with the iPhone got it replaced twice in 3 weeks and had crashes with bad battery life. I was worried about storage too and I got the 128 GB but all the photos I take get backed up and I still have 80GB+ left. Sure it's not water proof but how often do you swim with your phone? IF you need to take your phone in a dive you should get a water proof pouch anyways or it might just slip away. I have dropped it in water, in fact I took it on a jetski and water got in the pouch but the phone was fine. For the TV compatibility that really depends on you, I have wifi at home so I have no issues.
To sum it up you won't get the silky smooth performance like the pixel on another phone, the correct colors (Samsung saturation crap) and unlimited photo/vid storage. One of the key points was google photos for me since I take photos on a DSLR too and just transfer and upload.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I understand your smooth software experience with pixel . I actually never felt any lag with previous devices .. may be because i am not into gaming/heavy tasks and also rooted s7 edge and removed bloatware . I think touchwiz is getting better ..I was quiet happy with s7 edge except still photography as day lights photos was overexposed and that was the reason of purchasing Pixel . I thought it will support basic stuff like screen mirroring .. they have cast button but i guess it only support chromecast . Is there any way to connect mobile with Chromecast without Wifi. I mean i have unlimited internet on my phone and 30 gb can be used as hotspot? or if rooting and installing any custom ROm will support mira casting?
Secondly Is not google unlimited photo and videos only valid if you taken them with Pixel? Is not google free high quality already enough for 12 MP still photography? I honestly dont understand the hype about camera of Pixel when its exactly the same as those of nexus 5x/6P. I dont see the reason why someone who own 6p should upgrade to very expensive pixel XL. look at these same photo comparison which i have taken from old nexus 5x and pixel XL

I don't play games on my phone and i notice a lot of hiccups. They may seem small but can be very annoying when apps crash and your phone gets hot over stupid tiny things, there's also the s**t Samsung multitasking, i don't know if they've improved it but when I had it if you ran 3 apps and tried to switch back to the first one you it would restart it to conserve RAM. The software was horribly optimized and I have heard S8 followed it in the steps. I do enjoy Googles fast updates, I hated waiting months for carriers to give android updates. Aside from that I honestly don't know anything about Mira cast and I've never had issues with casting I've used my laptop to stream to my TV and I like having my phone strain free. Do you not have WiFi at home? Or do you feel limited to the apps for chrome cast? Every video streaming app that I have except Amazon Video has cast. You can use your laptop to stream personal videos on to it too and your phone. I don't know if you need an internet connection for that but you do need a WiFi setup. Also I'm so satisfied with my Pixel it's not even rooted so I wouldn't know any ROMs.

Those photos are very different I want you to look at the shadows, the cracks, the blur shown on smaller sharper objects. You'll notice a lot more depth or dynamic range. I'm not a professional photographer but an average person should notice it. I believe the photos compared are S7 and 6P? You have to realize the price difference between those 2 is quite a lot. Look up more Pixel and S7/S8 photo comparisons and you'll see the differences. One thing you should try out on the pixel is capturing video, try something drastic like a bumpy ride and record 4K and see the magical software do its thing. Lastly, all photos/videos uploaded from your Google Pixel are uploaded at original resolution and that's why I record everything in 4K and the USB adapter that came in box is awesome to transfer files and upload them from an external device.
These are some of the things I've noticed and you don't need to upgrade really, the 6P is quite quick still and if you want a cheaper phone with crazy performance try the One Plus. They're some of the craziest quickest phones ever.
Depends on how much you bought yours for, for me, I paid 67000 INR for it, and no, no phone is worth that money, not even Pixel. But being a Samsung user for the better part of my android life I am never gonna buy anything other than Stock android, so Pixel it is. Best camera, best software, what more do you need in a phone? **** all those gimmicky Samsung looks (though Pixel's bezels are huge and should be shrunken on next version) when paired with garbage software. Android still is not iOS in terms of optimisation, and bloated garbage laggy crappy skinned iterations just make it even worse.
Am I happy with mine? Yes. Completely? No. Why? Because my Pixel always had this random freezing issue (and I am on my fourth XL, all of them had it), and I absolutely hate that. With that issue being completely gone this is the best android phone I have ever used, even with the issue is.
If you plan to resell it then do it now when Pixel 2 is still more than two months away, otherwise stick with it for another year. What other phone is there which I might recommend instead? Nothing! Like I said, best camera, best software, I don't think there could be a more important combo to factor in, but Pixel's price should be around 500-600 USD or something. In any case over my dead body I am ever gonna go back to them Samsungs, or try some LG or something.
Good value for money note so sure, a great phone yes
There seems to be a numver of issues with the S20, and nothing has really tempted me to upgrade aside from this phone.
My phone is becoming useless though. It's very slow, has a terrible screen response, and the battery is shot. This phone has disappointed me more than any other Note, and I don't even use the S pen often.
I'm not waiting on the Note 20, so would you upgrade to the S20 from the Note 8?
My husband and I are discussing the options for which one, I'm probably going with the ultra so I can have the camera, but we will never have 5G anywhere we live so that part is useless.
Does BK package disabler or a similar program work with this phone? I know never being able to root the Note 8 drove me nuts.
Thoughts?
I have an unlocked note8 and bought the AT&T S20 plus.
For me, the answer is yes - it was worth it.
I debated a long time about the Ultra - I think both the plus and ultra models are wonderful.
"zoom" camera even on the regular S20 is objectively better than the Note8.

Thoughts?

The Note20 will be better and faster than any S20 model.

Upgraded from note 8 to S20
I myself upgraded from a Note 8 to an S20.
Mind you it is the S20 and not S20+ or ultra.
Both are exynos so my experience will be biased for exynos markets only.
1. Screen : Not much different in terms of screen quality but that refresh rate, IMO is the best thing for me as I can scroll endless pages of instagram and youtube and website scrolling is so amazing.
2. Camera : By far the biggest improvement from the Note 8 is the camera modules here.
I am not much into 8K gimmics but using the ultra wide, the Smooth 60 fps in both 4k and full hd are phenominal. Pictures come out very good.
3. Battery life : Using the 120hz leaves very little room for better battery life than the Note 8 but I am sure if in a pinch, dropping the screen refresh rate to 60 will easily give me a couple extra hours. So it will be good for those long road trips.
4. The best part , THE SMALL SIZE : Well, not really a small size at 6.2 inches. However, it is a huge difference between the huge note and this little handy yet powerful phone. The note 8 is roughly the size of s20+ and beleive me the note feels cluncky as hell now that I am used to the size of s20.
5. App opening speeds and basic day to day performance is far superior to that note.
Note: You may feel like the s20 heats up like crazy if used in continuation a lot or if some high end game is played for long, well I faced that problem a lot and I have already opened a thread in the discussion sections to talk with other owners about the problem. I found out that restoring from my note 8 using samsung switch was the biggest mistake I could do. I then cleaned the phone by doing a factory reset and set it up as a new device and I must say, I could not be any happier.
I would say go for the S20. You will not regret it.:fingers-crossed:
Thanks,
