The carbon fiber material is 3M 1080 vinyl. about $8 ebay for 12"x12"
What's it like to work with? How is the look close up? I'm wondering if this would be a good alternative to a case?

Yes its from ghost armor...and I think it will work on any case because it actually doesn't add its just a skin...its nice..

Yes... the precut skin is from Ghost Armor. The material they use is 3M 1080 and you can get enough for 6 phones for $8 if you want to do the cutting (instead of $20 for a single GA skin).

I've got (2) GS3's (1 work and 1 personal), and I do not baby any of my devices. They're in and out of my pockets all day long. One of them gets dropped at least once a day. And no, I've never broken or scratched up either one if them.
I'll test one for you, and give you a brutally honest non-sugar coated review.

I have a Samgung G S III, and carry the phone in the front pocket of my jeans.Currently using a dual layer Acase (based on recommendation on XDA of course!)
I have a youtube channel with a few subscribers. I could do a video review. I use a Galaxy Nexus primarily. Have an Xperia Play on the side for games.
Has anyone seen any hard shell cases yet? I have looked around some have seen a few for the 1st gen nexus but none for the 2nd gen.

Nope nothing yet. By the looks of it, by the end of the month there should be plenty of choices for cases.

If someone can find a link or such to the detailed dimensions of the N7, I'll totally make a 3D-Printed case/Stand/Car mount set.
I'm more than capable of modeling these things, I just don't have a clue how to measure the chamfer and fillets of the tablet.

I am hoping fro a back hard shell from Incipio. Already have an email out to them to see if they have any plans.
I posted on the OtterBox fb page and they said "We don't have plans for that device right now, but we'll certainly keep you posted on any changes!"
I emailed Gumdrop about a Droptech and they replied "Unfortunately, at this time we are not planning to make a case for this particular device. Please check back on our website in the near future for any new updates!"
I would like to see the case mate tough make it to the n7. I have the case on my note 2 and really like it.

How much would you be willing to spend cuz CF is not cheap. with the limited group that would buy the cases would be a minimum of $60. While it would be nice, id be just as concerned of the CF resin getting scratched as i would the device itself.

I'd pay $60, I love real carbon. Scratched real carbon is still better than no carbon.

My First Experiment with Nexus 5 Vinyl Covering.
I bought it from Ebay India just at Rs. 850 and used a Blow Gun to apply heat on the skin.
I bait, its wonderfully fit over the body and the Nexus 5 is just a Wooden Made Nexus.
This is the best that I could have got for my Nexus 5.
