As it says in the title, or is there a way to make certain apps to run in 4k? For example running MXPlayer in 4K.

hey, i have an unrooted firetv and im trying to play some roms through xbmc (using rom collection browser). the roms are located on a NAS drive which all my devices have access to. I was able to get the plugin to import the roms and scrape the data but when i try to play any rom using an emulator i installed i get a message saying "unable to locate path sda1/blahblahblah/roms, path does not exist". I figure that this is because the device wont allow me to play the roms from the network shared
but if i were to root my drive - would it be possible to play the games i have from the shared drive or would i have to try something else like Samba or mounting a USB stick and porting the games to it?
even though XBMC can see the network drive.. im not sure if the fire TV itself does, so how would i let my firetv have access to the shared drive so i wont see this message anymore?
anyone able to help? im wondering if side-loading this SMB app on the fire tv will allow the device itself to see the shared folder and play games from it
has anyone tried this as yet?
Hi;
I have set up my Firestick.
Sideloaded Kodi.
I want to be able to stream movies, etc. from the NAS to the TV and will it be possible to do it when away from home as I can do with my android phone?
When I go into setup on the stick, I see my network and then my Synology 212j NAS. I am using the windows (smb) function. When I click on the NAS, it gives me an error window. It does not connect.
I need specific directions on what to do. Is there a change on the NAS I need to make or a setting on the Firestick I need to change?
I can access the NAS from my computer, android phone, etc.
Thank you.
are u trying to add it in kodi?
firestick help
Yes. I am trying to add it into kodi. I have tried multiple ways with no success
your NAS has guest access disabled, you should add it manually in kodi.
in add video click browse, then in the list go down and add network location.
add your NAS manually in address field smb://your-nas-network-smb-name , then put the username and address and save it.
then go to the smb://your-nas and browse for your shared folders.
Firestick NAS help
Hi;
I have the amazon firestick.
I sideloaded Kodi 14.0 Helix,
It is connected on a 5G wifi with WPA2/PSK. /
I go to:
System / File manager / Add Source (A) / Browse / Scroll down to Windows network (SMB) /
When I click on it, it then shows my home workgroup, I click on it and it shows a printer, my "Diskstation, etc.
When I click on the Diskstation, I get an error pop up window that states, "Operation not permitted"
On an older laptop, on a non 5G network (because it will not see 5G), I can see the diskstation on the net work and log into it.
I'm sorry but I don't see the add video option that you mention. Any more specific path/info. would be appreciated.
Thank you for your help.
On main Kodi screen select Video then Files. Add videos. and browse to your NAS. Select NFS. You can rename it to your liking and access it the same way. Videos and Files. Don't try to add source through system.
Hello
anybody aware of if it is possible not only to move kodi to USB but also the Data ?
it seems that all the Thumbnails still are stored on the Fire TV and not the USB ( and taking up a lot of space) even when Kodi is running from the USB ?

How do you mean running from USB? Using the normal Android 'Move To' option or with a rooted option like FolderMount/Link2SD?
If you are rooted then you can use the aforementioned apps to also move the sdcard/Android/data/... folders to the USB as well which is where the thumbnails live.
If you are not rooted then I believe you can use path substitution for the thumbnails using advancedsettings.xml but it does seem to have its own problems.
See example 2 here: http://kodi.wiki/view/Path_substitution
And a working example here: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=201788
Thank you for your fast reply .-) - My Fire Tv is not rooted - running the lastest Update from Yesterday
I had hoped that theres was a more "simple solution" Changing the advanced setting on my Fire tv is maybe a little to longhaired for me
i have idea how it ist done ?
Right now I have TVMC on my fire tv. I would like to install KODI on it instead of the configured TVMC
Can I just backup my addons/settings/ uninstall TVMC, install kodi then restore my addons and every thing so that I will have everything I had before even the repos?
Also what are the advantages of kodi vs TVMC?

Yes. Download the backup addon. Backup -> uninstall TVMC -> install Kodi -> reinstall the backup addon -> restore.
I always do it the easy way, copy the addons folder and the userdata folder to a different directory. Uninstall, then install another build, open once, then overwrite the addons and userdata folders with the ones I copied from the last build. Also, I highly recommend SPMC on the Fire TV, cause its the only variant of Kodi that I can find to play all streams smoothly. I kept getting streams that were buggy/jittery and never played smooth, so I decided to try SPMC and have not had one problem since. The difference in playing streams was instantly noticable from using Kodi to using SPMC.
